The Supreme Lord, the Sovereign Master of the Universe does everything to win the love of His subjects ~ and there is One who thought only about Him, was so devoted that She could reach Him – Andal, Godha Piratti.  Andal’s Thiruppavai contains ocean of values including significance of  Naama sankeerthanam to Sriman Narayana.   The Saint Poetess observed Paavai Nonbu (vratham) to attain Lord Krishna. 

In the month of Margazhi, there occurs  the Nine day festival for Andal known as Neeratta Uthsavam.  Daily morning there will be thiruveedhi purappadu of Andal signifying her preparation for the neerattam.  After the purappadu, Andal will have ‘Thirumanjanam’ at the Neeratta mandapam which is just opposite to the Thiruther.  Sri Parthasarathi Perumal too visits this mantap immediately after the ‘theppam’[float] festival day. 

The greatness of Andal is exemplary ~ Kothai Nachiyar is the most glittering gem among Alwars, her Prabandhams are dazzling diamond  jewels among divyaPrabandhams.  Acarya  Manavala Mamunigal extols her birth exclaiming that there can be none equal to her.  She was the epitome of  divine wisdom and devotion par excellence.  Andal derived the mysticism of those Alwars who were disguised in the devotion of God. Her single mindedness devotion in doing service to Lord is abundant in her first Prabandham Tiruppavai. In Nachiyar thirumozhi her intent bakthi is revealed in her wanting to do kainkaryam at the feet of Lord Sri Ranganatha ~ bakthi pours,   hymns touch the heart, melt the mind and lend special distinction to it.

 

 

மார்கழித் திங்கள் மதிநிறைந்த நன்னாளால்** நீராடப் போதுவீர் போதுமினோ நேரிழையீர்!

சீர்மல்கும் ஆய்ப்பாடி செல்வச்சிறுமீர்காள்* கூர்வேல் கொடுந்தொழிலன் நந்தகோபன் குமரன்!

ஏரார்ந்த கண்ணி யசோதை இளஞ்சிங்கம் ** கார்மேனிச் செங்கண் கதிர்மதியம் போல் முகத்தான்

நாராயணனே நமக்கே பறை தருவான் ** பாரோர் புகழப் படிந்தேலோர் எம்பாவாய்

 

கோதை பிராட்டியின் திருப்பாவை ஒரு அற்புத காவியம்.  முப்பது பாடல்களுமே எம்பெருமானை மட்டுமே விளித்து, அவனது குணாதிசயங்களை அதிசயித்து, தோழியர்களை அதிகாலை துயில் எழுந்து, நன்னீராடி - அவனை அடைய உபாயங்களை சொல்லும் வைர வரிகள். 

தாமரைப் பூ போன்ற நல்ல மலர்களில் - வெண்மை, சிவப்பு, மஞ்சள் எனப் பல நிறங்கள் உண்டு என்றாலும், செந்தாமரையே  ஸ்ரீமன் நாரணனுடைய பிரியத்துக்கு உகந்த மலராகும்.  பாதி மலர்ந்த செந்தாமரை போன்ற கண்களை உடையவனாம் கண்ணன். அனந்த கல்யாண குணங்கள் பொருந்தியவன்  கண்ணன். அவனுடைய திருமேனியழகை திருவடி முதல் திருமுடி வரை தரிசிப்பவர்கள், உடனே அவனுக்கு அடிமையாகிவிடுவார்கள்.   

அகிலத்து அரசர்கள் அனைவரும், தங்கள் ஆணவம் தொலைத்தவர்களாக, உன்னுடைய அரியணையின் கீழே ஒன்று சேர்ந்து நிற்பதுபோல், நாங்களும் எங்களுடைய மன மாயையைகள் அத்தனையும் தொலைத்தவர்களாக, உன்னைச் சரணடைந்து நற்பேறு அடைவோம் என்று கண்ணனை வேண்டுகிறாள் ஆண்டாள்.  

திருப்பாவையின் முதல் பாடலிலே : அழகிய அணிகலன்களை அணிந்த கன்னியரே! சிறப்பு மிக்க ஆயர்பாடியில் வசிக்கும் செல்வவளமிக்க சிறுமிகளே! மார்கழியில் முழுநிலா ஒளி வீசும் நல்ல நாள் இது. இன்று நாம் நீராடக் கிளம்புவோம். கூர்மையான வேலுடன் நம்மைப் பாதுகாத்து வரும் அரிய தொழிலைச் செய்யும் நந்தகோபன், அழகிய கண்களையுடைய யசோதாபிராட்டி ஆகியோரின் சிங்கம் போன்ற மகனும், கரிய நிறத்தவனும், சிவந்த கண்களை உடையவனும், சூரியனைப் போல் பிரகாசமான முகத்தையுடையவனும், நாராயணனின் அம்சமுமான கண்ணபிரான் நமக்கு அருள் தர காத்திருக்கிறான். அவனை நாம் பாடிப் புகழ்ந்தால் இந்த உலகமே நம்மை வாழ்த்தும் என்று ஸ்ரீவைகுண்டத்தில் பள்ளி கொண்டு இருக்கும் பெருமானைப் பாடுகிறாள்.  

திருப்பாவையின் முதற்பாட்டிலே : 'நீராடப் போதுவீர் போதுமினோ';  நான்காம் பாட்டில் - 'நாங்களும் மார்கழி நீராட மகிழந்து'; பின்னே - 'மார்கழி நீராடுவான்' - என சிறப்பிக்கப்படும் - மார்கழி நீரோட்டம் கூட ஒரு திருவிழா ! திருவல்லிக்கேணியிலும் மற்ற திவ்யதேசங்களிலும் நீராட்ட உத்சவம் 9 நாள் நடைபெறுகிறது.
