Sri Andal Thiruvadipura uthsavam 6 –

Sri Andal Thiruvadipura uthsavam 6 –

For Srivaishnavaites, life is blissful – today 10th  August 2026  is day 6  in Thiruvadipura uthsavam  of Kothai piratti Andal .. .. there was siriya mada veethi purappadu of Andal at Thiruvallikkeni with rendering of Thiruvasiriyam and Periya thiruvanthathi.

The capita of Syria, Damascus was built in a strategic site on a plateau 680 m (2,230 ft) above sea level and about 80 km (50 mi) inland from the Mediterranean, sheltered by the Anti-Lebanon mountains, supplied with water by the Barada River, and at a crossroads between trade routes. Damascus is surrounded by the Ghouta, irrigated farmland where many vegetables, cereals and fruits have been farmed since ancient times.  Damascus is  titled the "City of Jasmine".  The Barada River flows through Damascus. Damascus is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.

Sri Parthasarathi Perumal pushpa pallakku 2026 - Puya raimondii !!!

Sri Parthasarathi Perumal  pushpa pallakku 2026

- Puya raimondii !!!

Can you identify what this is ?  -    these  two plants are the  world’s largest bromeliad species, Puya raimondii  !!!

Flowers are beautiful  . .. .. they pervade fragrance and happiness.  Imagine walking in a beautiful garden -  sweet scent would waft  through the air.  In a Temple they pervade divinity.  The blooming and fragrance is perhaps  part of a strategy that helps flowering plants reproduce themselves and spread their species.  Plants flower to produce seeds that can go on to become new plants. To make a viable seed, pollen from one part of the flower must fertilize the ovules in another part of the flower. Some plants can self-pollinate, using their own pollen to fertilize the ovule. Others require pollen from another plant of the same species – that’s called cross-pollination.  A  flower, sometimes known as a bloom or blossom, is the reproductive structure found in flowering plants.

Believe me !  - the one at the start is a flower !! yes – it is Puya raimondii, also known as Queen of the Andes, the largest species of bromeliad, its inflorescences reaching up to 15 m (50 ft) in height. It is native to the high Andes of Bolivia and Peru.  It was once hypothesized to be a Protocarnivorous plant.  The plant begins as a massive, spiky rosette of leaves spanning up to 2 metres wide. When it matures, it shoots up a towering central flower spike that stands 9 to 15 metres tall. A single flower spike produces between 8,000 and 20,000 creamy white flowers over a brief 3-month window. These blossoms heavily attract local high-altitude hummingbirds for pollination.

The first scientific description of this species was made in 1830 by the French scientist Alcide d'Orbigny after he encountered it in the region of Vacas, Cochabamba, in Bolivia at an altitude of 3,960 m (12,990 ft). However, as the plants he saw were immature and not yet flowering, he could not classify them taxonomically.  Now,  Queen of the Andes are classified as rare and endangered because habitat loss and changes in climate have dramatically reduced the wild populations. The Garden’s Puya raimondii are grown from seed collected in 1990 in Bolivia by botanists from the NY Botanical Garden. The first Queen of the Andes that ever flowered in captivity was at the UC Botanical Garden in 1986. A sibling of these two plants flowered at the Garden in 2014. Horticulture and Conservation experts at the Garden have never heard of two flowering at once in captivity, making this a unique spectacle in the plant world.

For us life is simple .. .. flowers are beautiful and fragrant flowers are submitted to Sriman Narayana – there is Pushpa pallakku that is beautifully made of flowers for our Emperuman… .. here are some photos of pushpa pallakku at Thiruvallikkeni for Sri  Parthasarathi Perumal  this evening on 18th May 2026.

Manthra pushpam kainkaryam @ Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam

Flowers have a  very special place in our worship – symbolizing purity, devotion, and sacred connection with the divine.  Floral tributes (Pushpanjali) in our Sanatana Dharma are sacred offerings representing devotion, purity, and nature (Prakriti), used to invoke divine blessings during pooja (worship).  In the Bhagavad Gita, flowers symbolize pure devotion, renunciation, and divine beauty, with the lotus (kamal) being the most prominent, representing detachment, purity, and spiritual elevation, similar to how it rises above murky water without being soiled.

In the holy scripture, having  established the benefits of worshipping the Supreme, Shree Krishna  explains how easy it is to do so.  In the worship of the devatās and the ancestors, there are many rules to propitiate them, which must be strictly followed.  Supreme  God accepts anything that is offered with a loving heart.  If you have only a fruit, offer it to God, and He will be pleased.  If there is no fruit available, offer Him a flower.  If it is not the season for flowers, offer God a mere leaf; even that will suffice, provided it is a gift of love.   It is the bhakti of the devotee that is pleasing to God, and not the worth of the offering.

Lord Krishna declares: patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ yo me bhaktyā prayacchati ("If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, I will accept it").   Krishna emphasizes that He does not need grand rituals or expensive items. He desires sincere love and devotion.  This verse indicates that anyone, regardless of wealth or status, can worship God by offering simple, natural, and easily available items.  The core requirement is that the item is offered with bhakti (devotion) by a prayatātmanaḥ (pure-minded/sincere devotee).

Mantra pushpam is a Vedic hymn that is sung at the time of the offering of flowers to deities at the very end of the Pujas. The mantra is considered to be the flower of Vedic chants. It is part of the Taittiriya Aranyaka and speaks of the unlimited benefits which will be conferred by the secret knowledge of the waters, fire, air, the sun, the moon, the stars, the clouds and time

At Thiruvallikkeni – during  Thiruvaradhanam, manthra pushpam occurs – designated kainkaryabar stands near the Battachar and chants the slokas.  Understand that here is a combination of select verses of Chatur Vedas, Ithihasa puranas as also verses from Divya prabandham.

In Dec 2025, Thiruvallikkeni sadly lost one of the doyens of Srivaishnavism – Manthrapushpam Bashyam Swami.  Tall, ever smiling, he endeared himself to all by his way of living, pleasing manners and sharing his knowledge with youngsters.  He was a respectful high official with Tamil Nadu Govt working in various capacities and retiring as Dist Development Officer.   He was a very regular  in arulicheyal kainkaryam at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam and did ‘Manthrapushpam’ kainkaryam for more than 3 decades.  Even after turning 94, he was fit and had firm steps – and continued his kainkaryam pleasingly.

After his demise, the mantle has now passed on to his relative, young (around 57 years of age) Sri U.Ve. Sridhar Sampath.  Sridhar well known to Triplicanites as a Cricketer assumed the duty of this kainkaryam and debuted in the grand festivity of 10th day of Chithirai Brahmothsavam in Dwadasa Aradhanam at Thiruvaimozhi mandapam when all Emperumans and Azhwar, Acharyar had assembled at the mandapam with the chanting of whole Thiruvaimozhi.

Poliga, poliga, poliga !  - let kainkaryams continue unabated.

Beau Flowers adorned by Parthasarathi Emperuman 2026

Very important Pre-script: this long winding post is not on flowers (Roses) but dedicated to Sri Parthasarathi Perumal, pardon me for the wandering words that precede the last para.

"La Violetera" is a 1914 cuplé song [a popular risqué Spanish theatre song style], with the rhythm of a habanera, composed by José Padilla and with lyrics by Eduardo Montesinos, originally performed by Carmen Flores. It was first popularized by Raquel Meller, and later by Sara Montiel. The instrumental version is also popular as a tango. In Spanish, a Violetera is a woman who sells violets.

Flowers are beautiful  . .. .. they pervade fragrance and happiness.  Imagine walking in a beautiful garden -  sweet scent would waft  through the air.  In every  Temple they pervade divinity.  The blooming and fragrance is perhaps  part of a strategy that helps flowering plants reproduce themselves and spread their species.   Among all flowers, Roses are universally admired for their captivating beauty, characterized by soft, velvety petals, vibrant colors ranging from deep red to soft pastel shades, and a distinctive, alluring fragrance. Symbolizing love, passion, and perfection, these timeless flowers are celebrated for their elegance in gardens and as expressions of deep emotion.  The beauty of  roses  lies in their perfect blend of visual elegance, intoxicating fragrance, and deep symbolic meaning. Often called the "Queen of Flowers," they have been admired for over 35 million years for their velvety petals and vibrant hues.

Long ago in 1954 the move ‘Rajee En kanmani” hit the screens.

The song - "La Violetera"  was composed in 1914 by José Padilla during his stay in Paris as director of the orchestra of the Casino de Paris music hall. The lyricist was Eduardo Montesinos. Its premiere took place in Barcelona with a performance by Carmen Flores. It was singer Raquel Meller who first popularized the song in Spain and France, and later worldwide.  Sung in French by Dalida, it was released in 1956 in the first high quality release of the song on vinyl.

The 1958 blockbuster musical film The Violet Seller, by Luis César Amadori, was inspired by the song. The version of "La Violetera" performed by Sara Montiel in the film, with arrangement by composer Gregorio García Segura and recorded by Hispavox, also became worldwide famous.

Rajee En Kanmani (English: Rajee, my darling) produced by SS Vasan hit the screens in 1954 - directed by K. J. Mahadevan and produced by S. S. Vasan. The film starred T. R. Ramachandran and Sriranjani Jr. It  was remade in Telugu with the title Rajee Naa Pranam in the same year. The music was composed by S. Hanumantha Rao, and the lyrics were penned by Sangu Subramaniam. The song "Malligai Poo Jaadhi Roja" sung by R. Balasaraswathi Devi became a hit; it was  is based on "La Violetera," a Spanish song.

The proverb “Every rose has its thorn” symbolizes the balance of life, where joy and challenges coexist. It reminds us that beauty and hardship are intertwined, and both are essential to living a full life.

Moving away from all the irrelevant info – here is a picture of  Pulchritudinous, ravishing sublimely lustrous Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman adorning most beautiful Roses and Kamalam [Lotus buds]
