மனித வாழ்க்கையின் முக்கிய அவலம் 'பயம்' - எதிர்கால நிகழ்வுகள் பற்றி பயம், உடல்நலமின்மை பற்றி பயம். மரண பயம்.   One falls sick (some frequently) then age catches up and you feel some nagging pain or the other – disease, disorder, call them whatever, body is experiencing pain and mind stress !! – does that describe you too !!

 

That actually is a nasty feeling as many tend to spend hours on the Internet, researching on the perceived condition, fearing what it could be and whether there are any remedies at all.  Even for   a scratchy throat you automatically think of a serious illness  — not a cold. And even when medical tests come back showing that you're healthy, it doesn't make you feel better. In the back of your mind you still feel like something is wrong.  If this sounds like you or a loved one, it may be health anxiety.    Health anxiety is a condition that causes healthy people to worry that they are sick — even when they have no symptoms, or minor symptoms like a scratchy throat. But some health conditions are natural and timebound just like ageing ! 

Metchnikoff married his first wife, Ludmila Feodorovitch, in 1869. She died from tuberculosis in  1873.  Her death, combined with other problems, caused Metchnikoff to attempt suicide, taking a large dose of opium. In 1875, he married his student Olga Belokopytova.  In 1885 Olga suffered from severe typhoid and this led to his second suicide attempt.  He injected himself with the spirochete of relapsing fever.  He survived and  .. ..  the  Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1908 was awarded jointly to Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov and Paul Ehrlich "in recognition of their work on immunity"

எல்லா காலங்களிலும், இது போன்ற சங்கட காலங்களிலும் நாம் செய்ய வேண்டியது என்ன ? - நமக்கு என்ன மனக்கவலை ?? - திருவேங்கடவன் இருக்கும் போது.  திருவேங்கடமுடையானன்றோ ப்ராப்யம், திருமலையே ப்ராப்பயமென்ற  திருமலையொன்றே நம் வினை ஓய்வதற்குப் போதுமென்கிறார், ஸ்வாமி  நம்மாழ்வார்.

 

திருமால் தன் அடியார்களை காப்பதற்கு எழுந்து அருளி இருக்கும் திவ்யதேசங்களில் தலையானது "திருமலை" என போற்றப்படும் "திருவேங்கடம் - திருப்பதி"- குளிரருவி வேங்கடம்; விரிதிரை நீர்  வேங்கடம் என மிகுந்த அருவிகளை உடையதாக புகழப்படுகிறது. எம்பெருமான் உறையும் இடமான  திருமலைதான் நமக்கு பரம ப்ராப்யம்; அது நமக்கு எல்லா சிறந்த பலன்களையும் அளிக்க வல்லது.   குளிர்ந்த பெருமழையை தடுத்தவனும் உலகங்களையளந்த பிரபுவுமாகிய எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாரணன் வந்து சேர்ந்தவிடமான திருமலையொன்றை மாத்திரமே நாம் வணங்கப்பெறில்,  நமது வினைகள் யாவும் பறந்து ஓடி விடும்.

 

The sacred and most reverred temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the seventh peak – Venkatachala hill of Tirumala.  The Lord stands tall as bestower of all boons and lakhs of people reach here to have a glimpse – a few seconds darshan of the Lord.  This beautiful temple in its present form owes a lot to the works of the greatest Vaishnava Acarya Swami Ramanujar, fondly Udayavar.

Ageing  is the process of becoming older. The term refers mainly to humans, many other animals, and fungi, whereas for example, bacteria, perennial plants and some simple animals are potentially biologically immortal. In humans, ageing represents the accumulation of changes in a human being over time and can encompass physical, psychological, and social changes.  Reaction time, slows down  with age, while memories and general knowledge typically increase!  Ageing increases the risk of human diseases  yet one should be fortunate enough to die due to ageing and not to any disease !! 

Current ageing theories are assigned to the damage concept, whereby the accumulation of damage (such as DNA oxidation) may cause biological systems to fail, or to the programmed ageing concept, whereby the internal processes (epigenetic maintenance such as DNA methylation) inherently may cause ageing.  In recent decades,  Dementia is more associated with age.  There are so many other dreaded diseases too.  

Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov (1845 – 1916)  was a Russian zoologist of Romanian noble ancestry  best known for his pioneering research in immunology.  He and Paul Ehrlich were jointly awarded the 1908 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "in recognition of their work on immunity". 

Mechnikov was born in a region of the Russian Empire that is today part of the modern-day Ukraine to a Romanian noble father and a Ukrainian-Jewish mother, and later on continued his career in France. Given this complex heritage, five different nations and peoples lay claim to Metchnikoff.   Honoured as the "father of innate immunity", Metchnikoff was the first to discover a process of immunity called phagocytosis and the cell responsible for it, called phagocyte, specifically macrophage, in 1882. This discovery turned out to be the major defence mechanism in innate immunity,  as well as the foundation of the concept of cell-mediated immunity, while Ehrlich established the concept of humoral immunity to complete the principles of immune system. Their works are regarded as the foundation of the science of immunology. 

Metchnikoff developed one of the earliest concepts in ageing, and advocated the use of lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus) for healthy and long life. This became the concept of probiotics in medicine.  Mechnikov is also credited with coining the term gerontology in 1903, for the emerging study of aging and longevity. Supporters of life extension celebrate 15 May as Metchnikoff Day !!

Water, water, water - H2O - Uriyadi Thiruvizha

Water  is vital for all known forms of life, despite not providing food, energy or organic micronutrients. A number of natural states of water exist.  Water, is a substance composed of the chemical elements hydrogen and oxygen and existing in gaseous, liquid, and solid states. It is one of the most plentiful and essential of compounds.  

Can you see water ?  - no,  not as in buckets, rivers, Ocean or elsewhere – the Q is how many drops make an Ocean and can you see them individually ? Water (chemical formula H2O) is an inorganic, transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colourless chemical substance, which is the main constituent of Earth's hydrosphere and the fluids of all known living organisms.  "Water" is the name of the liquid state of H2O at standard temperature and pressure.  

 

This is an age where not many of the residents of the city depend on Chennai Metro water – for some – it is ‘branded mineral water’ ! or packaged water. 

 

Water has an amazing ability to adhere (stick) to itself and to other substances. The property of cohesion describes the ability of water molecules to be attracted to other water molecules, which allows water to be a "sticky" liquid.  

Hydrogen bonds are attractions of electrostatic force caused by the difference in charge between slightly positive hydrogen ions and other, slightly negative ions. In the case of water, hydrogen bonds form between neighbouring hydrogen and oxygen atoms of adjacent water molecules. The attraction between individual water molecules creates a bond known as a hydrogen bond. 

Electrolysis of water is the decomposition of water (H2O) into oxygen (O2) and hydrogen (H2) due to an electric current being passed through the water. 

To find out what water is made of, it helps to look at its chemical formula, which is H2O. This basically tells us that the water molecule is composed of two elements: hydrogen and oxygen or, more precisely, two hydrogen atoms (H2) and one oxygen atom (O). Hydrogen and oxygen are gases at room temperature. So, does this mean that we can just combine both gases and then we get water? It is not quite as simple as that. What is missing in the equation is the energy component of the chemical reaction. Making water from its elements produces a large amount of energy. Chemical reactions that produce energy are also called exothermic reactions. In the case of hydrogen and oxygen the released energy is so high that it is almost impossible to control, and most of the time it leads to an explosion.   

To create water, oxygen and hydrogen atoms must be present. Mixing them together doesn't help; you're still left with just separate hydrogen and oxygen atoms. The orbits of each atom's electrons must become linked, and to do that we must have a sudden burst of energy to get these shy things to hook up.  The ill-fated blimp, the Hindenburg, was filled with hydrogen to keep it afloat. As it approached New Jersey May 6, 1937, to land after a trans-Atlantic voyage, static electricity (or an act of sabotage, according to some) caused the hydrogen to spark. When mixed with the ambient oxygen in the air, the hydrogen exploded, enveloping the Hindenburg in a ball of fire that completely destroyed the ship within half a minute. There was, however, also a lot of water created by this explosion. 

To create enough drinking water to sustain the global population, a very dangerous and incredibly large-scale process would be required.

Lord Krishna - பைய உயோகு-துயில் கொண்ட பரம்பரனே!

 இதை விட ஓர் அற்புத சேவை இம்மண்ணுலகில் உண்டா ?  - ஞாநியர்களும் மஹனீயர்கள் எல்லாம் அவனை அடையவும்,  தரிசனம் கண்டருளவும், வேண்டி நிற்க எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாரணன் ஆலையில் ஆனந்தமாக துயில் கொண்டான்,  அவனே கிருஷ்ணாவதாரத்தில் மாடுகள் மேய்த்தவன், வீடுகள் தோறும் வெண்ணை திருடியவன், ஆய்ச்சியர் விரட்டும்போது ஓடி ஒளிந்தவன் .. .. அவ்வெம்பெருமானை பெரியாழ்வார் தனது  மனமார,

உய்ய உலகு படைத்து உண்ட மணிவயிறா *

ஊழிதொறு ஊழி பல ஆலின் இலையதன்மேல்*

பைய உயோகு-துயில் கொண்ட பரம்பரனே!*  -  என மங்களாசாசனம் செய்கிறார்.

 

இவ்வுலகம் தோன்றிய காலத்திற்கு முன்னமிருந்தே, எண்ணிலடங்கா யுகங்களாக, உலகிலுள்ள அனைத்து உயிரினங்கள் மற்றும் உயிரற்ற பொருள்கள் அனைத்தையும் உருவாக்கியதோடு மட்டுமல்லாது, ஊழிப் பேரழிவின் போது அவற்றையெல்லாம் தன் அழகிய வயிற்றினுள் வைத்து பாதுகாக்கின்ற பரம்பொருளே! சின்னஞ்சிறிய ஆலிலை மேல் மெல்ல சயனித்து அறிதுயில் கொண்ட முழுமுதற் கடவுளாம்  நம் ஸ்ரீமன் நாரணன் இங்கே 'பாற்கடலில் ஆதிசேஷனின் மீது பாலகனாக சேவை' சாதிக்கின்றான்.

இரண்டு சிம்ஹங்களுக்கு இடையே அவதார ஸ்தலத்தில் ஆசார்யர் வீற்று இருப்பது போன்ற இந்த அற்புத படத்தை எனக்கு அனுப்பியவர் நண்பர் திரு சுந்தரகிருஷ்ணன்

திருவரங்கனுடைய பாதுகையைப் பற்றி, பாதுகா சகஸ்ரம் என்ற தலைப்பிலே விடிவதற்குள்ளே 1000 ஸ்லோகங்களைத்  சுவாமி பாடியதால் - கவிதார்க்கிக சிம்மம் என்ற பட்டமும் இவருக்குக் கிடைத்தது. இவர்  “சர்வ தந்திர சுதந்திரர்”,  என்று போற்றப்படுகிறார்

Today  25.9.2023   is  ‘ Thiruvonam ‘ in the month of Purattasi ~ the day marking the sarrumurai of Sri Vedanthachar.     

             ஆசாரமாக இருப்பவர்கள்  அருந்தும் நீர் முதல் உண்ணும் உணவு வரை பல கட்டுப்பாடுகளை பின்பற்றுவர்.    இன்று நாம் பலர் சாப்பிடும் தண்ணீர் பல வடிவங்களில் இருக்கும் பிளாஸ்டிக்கில் அடைக்கப்பட்டு தான் வருகிறது. பெரிய பிராண்ட் என பெயர் பெற்ற நிறுவனங்கள்  சுத்தமான தண்ணீர் என்று அதீத விலைக்கு விற்பது எல்லாம் கூட  சுத்தமான தண்ணீரே இல்லை. இன்று நாம் நம் நதிகளை அழித்துவிட்டு பாட்டில் தண்ணீருக்கு அலைந்துகொண்டு இருக்கிறோம். எங்கு சென்றாலும் ஏகப்பட்ட தண்ணீர் பாட்டில்களை தூக்கிக்கொண்டு - உணவை தேடி அலைகின்றோம்.    எவை எவற்றை உண்ணக்கூடாது என சுவாமி வேதாந்தாச்சார் எழுதிய "ஆகார நியமம்" என்ற நூலின் சில வரிகள்.  பகவானுடைய அடியவர்கள் பகவத்பக்தியை வளர்ந்துக்கொள்ள ஸாத்விக ஆஹாரங்களையே உட்கொள்ள வேண்டும். சில ஆஹாரங்களை விட்டே தீர வேண்டும். எவையெவைகளை விட வேண்டும் என்று ஆசார்யர்  21 பாசுரங்களாலே காட்டியுள்ளார்.   

இவற்றையெல்லாம் கடைபிடிப்பது கடினம் எனும் நல்லோர் தங்கள் ஆக்கையின் வழி உழலலாம்.  நாம் நிறுவனத்தில் டை கட்டச்சொன்னால் கட்டுவோம் !  - அதிகாரி நினைப்பதற்கு முன்பே கை காட்டுவோம் - ஆனால் நமது நல்வாழ்க்கைக்கு நியமனங்கள் பற்றி கூறினால் உதாசீனம் செய்வோம் !!  

இன்று புரட்டாசி திருவோணம். ஸ்ரீ தூப்புல் பிள்ளை என்ற கவிதார்க்க்கிக சிம்மம் என்ற ஸர்வதந்திரஸ்வதந்தரர் என்ற ஸ்ரீமந்  வேதாந்தாசாரியார்  - 755 திருநட்சத்திரம் இன்று ! காஞ்சியில் திருத்தண்கா என்கிற திவ்யதேசம் 'கண்ணன் வெஃக்கா' எனப்படுகிற ஸ்ரீயதோக்தகாரி எம்பெருமான் ஸன்னிதிக்குச் சமீபத்தில் உள்ள ' தேனிளஞ்சோலையே' தண்கா (குளிர் சோலை) என்பர் பெரியோர்.  அதற்கருகில் இருக்கும்   உத்தமமான புரட்டாசித் திருவோண நன்னாளில் உதித்தவர் உயர் வேங்கட குருவான வேதாந்தாசாரியார்.!  

‘தூப்புல்’ வேதாந்தாசாரியாரின்  அவதாரஸ்தலம்.  'தூப்புல்’ தூய்மையான புல். வைதிகர்கள் உபயோகிக்கும் தர்ப்பத்தை குறிக்கும்.   உபய வேதாந்தத்துக்கும், [தமிழ், ஸம்ஸ்க்ருதம்]  என்ற இரண்டிலும் சிறந்து விளங்கியதால்  'வேதாந்தாச்சார்யர்’.  நமக்கு நல்வழி காட்டிடும் ஆசானை நாம் குரு, ஆசாரியன், தேசிகன் என்று பல பெயர்களால் குறிப்பிடுகின்றோம்.  தேசிகன் என்றால் ஆசாரியன் என்று பொருள்.  

மும்மணிக்கோவை என்பது பிரபந்தம் எனப்படும் சிற்றிலக்கிய வகைகளுள் ஒரு வகையாகும். இதில், ஆசிரியப்பா, வெண்பா, கட்டளைக் கலித்துறை என்னும் பாவகைகளில் அமைந்த பாடல்கள் மாறி மாறி வரும். 30 பாடல்களைக் கொண்டு அமையும் இந்தச் சிற்றிலக்கியவகையில் பாடல்கள் அந்தாதி வடிவிலும் இருக்கும். ஸ்வாமி வேதாந்தச்சார் எம்பெருமான் மீது ஒரு மும்மணிக்கோவையை அளித்துள்ளார்.

 

Venkatanathan was the  amsam of  “Thirumani” (bell).  One day, Kidambi Appular, Venkatanathan’s Maternal Uncle, took him to the “Kalakshepam”  of Guru Nadathur Ammal. On seeing Vekatanathan’s “divya thejas” (brilliance), Nadathur Ammal stopped the Kalakshepam and asked the boy to come on stage. Young Venkatanathan grew up to become an astute scholar, a preacher of Srivaishnava siddhantam.  Venkatanathan travelled to Thiruvahindirapuram and did “mangalasasnam” to Lord Deivanayagan and his consort. He then went to Lord Nrusimha’s sannidhi in Oushadagiri, sat under an “Ashwattha” tree and recited the Garuda Mantram.    He also composed  Hayagreeva Sthotra, Garuda-dhandakam, Devanayaga-panchasath, Achyutha-sadakam, and many more literary gems in future.  Swami was well versed in Sanskrit, Prakritham, Tamil and was great in debate earning the title  “Kavitarkikasimham”(A lion among poets). Of his many skills, he confronted a mason in building a well which is now seen at his thirumaligai at Thiruvahindrapuram. 

Swami Vedanthachar  lived a full and fruitful life for 102 years. In the misfortune when Islamic invaders looted Thiruvarangam, alongwith Swami Pillai Logachar, he emerged at the forefront in protecting our sampradhayam.   In the year 1369, he rested his head on the lap of his son Kumara Varadhachariar and left his mortal coil. During his lifetime, Swami lived in Karnataka for 12 long years in a place know as Sathyagalam.

பெரியாழ்வார் எப்பொழுதும் எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமந்நாரணனையே  தம் சித்தத்தில் கொண்டிருந்தவர்.  பூமாலையோடு பாமாலைகளையும் சூட்டியவர்.  உடலை வருத்தும் நோய்கள் பற்றி இதோ இங்கே அவரது பாசுரம். தம்மிடத்து எம்பெருமான் விரும்பிப் புகுந்ததனால் நோய்களை  அகலும்படி ஆழ்வார் கூறுதல்,  அறுசீர்க்கழிநெடிலடியாசிரிய விருத்தம்.   நமது உடம்பில் பல நோய்கள் ஒவ்வொன்றாக வரிசையாக வந்து சேருகின்றன. நெய்க்குடத்தில் எறும்புகள் வரிசையாக வந்து அப்பிக்கொள்வதுபோல நமது உடம்பிலும் நோய்கள் வரிசையாக அப்பிக் கொள்கின்றன.

 

நெய்க்குடத்தைப் பற்றி ஏறும் எறும்புகள்போல்

நிரந்து எங்கும் கைக்கொண்டு நிற்கின்ற நோய்காள்.

காலம்பெற உய்யப்போமின் மெய்க்கொண்டு வந்து

புகுந்து வேதப்பிரானார் கிடந்தார் பைக்கொண்ட

பாம்பணையோடும் பண்டன்று பட்டினம்காப்பே.

 

நெய் வைத்துள்ள குடத்தில் எப்படி எறும்புகள் ஏறுமோ, அப்படி உடம்பாகிய குடத்தில் எல்லா இடத்திலும் பரவி நிற்கும் நோய்களே! சீக்கிரமே விட்டு விலகி,பிழைத்துப் போங்கள்!  வேதத்திற்கு அதிபதியான எம்பெருமான், படங்களுடன் கூடிய பாம்பின் படுக்கையோடு கூட, உடம்பில் புகுந்து விருப்பத்தோடு படுத்திருக்கிறார். இது பழைய உடம்பு இல்லை. இந்த சரீர-ஆத்மா என்கிற பட்டினம் இப்பொழுது எம்பெருமானால் காக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது!
