Swami Manavala Mamunigal day 6 2016 : அன்னக்கூட உத்சவம்

Anna koota Uthsavam
Sri:
Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama:
Srimath Varavara Munaye Nama:

On day 6 of Manavala Mamunigal Uthsavam  – what a dharshan it turned out to be of Sri Parthasarathi  – sublime beauty,  draped in beautiful silk dress, dressed like a Cowherd King, wearing  a turban,  whip in his hand, the other hand resting, adorning many jewels, including impeccable shining ear rings ~ he was also wearing bangles - what a marvellous treat to His bakthas.  – and it is the day of Govardhana giri Gopala.

We all go to temples and worship Lord in various forms.  For us the Lord is Omnipresent and Idol symbolizes Him.  Often we stand before the Lord and rekindle our worries beseeching his benevolence in getting remedy. There are others who visualize Him in various swaroopams and enjoy Him in their inner souls.   Saint Periyazhwaar, when he saw Lord Sriman Narayana astride Garuda, started thinking of His magnificence and started singing paeans seeking that no harm ever happen to the Greatest !

Today ( 31st Oct 2016  )  is the 6th  day of Swami Manavaala Mamunigal Uthsavam celebrated as “Annakoota Uthsavam.” On this day,  lot of Chakkarai pongal, kadambam and other such offerings are made to Perumal. This is to commemorate the lifting of ‘Govardhana Giri’ by Lord Krishna on the day when it rained very heavily when the cowherds were making offerings to Indira. Govardhana (गोवर्धन) is a 8km long hill located near the town of Vrindavan, in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh – it is the sacred hills of Braj.   Lord  Krishna as he grew up, saw  preparations for the annual offering to Indra and questioned his father Nandagopala, instructed the villagers on what their dharma as farmers was.  An angered Indira  flooded the village. Lord Krishna protected the village people and their cattle by lifting the Govardhana hill with his little finger.

Understand that in Northern part, hundreds of sweet dishes are offered to Lord Krishna on this day. Here is a photo taken from  the web of  - which depicts hundreds of sweets offered on the altar in the shape of Govardhan hill. [photo credit :  fb page of National Hindu Students Forum (NHSF)]

Today  evening at Thiruvallikkeni, on the occasion of Anna Kooda Uthsavam, there was the magnificent purappadu of Lord Parthasarathi –    It was a very rare Darshan to behold… Here are some photos of  6th day festival of Sri Manavala Mamunigal Uthsavam at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam

Swami Manavala Mamunigal Uthsavam day 5 : 2016 # Thriuvallikkeni

Today (30th Oct 2o16) is day 5 in the Thiruvavathara Uthsavam of Swami Manavala Manunigal.  Born in 1370 AD, our Acharyar lived for 73 years on this earth performing many Kaimkaryams  at Sri Rangam and undertook many pilgrimages to many  Sri Vaishnava Divyadesams.

Periya  Jeeyar who established our Thennacharya Sampradhayam believed and practised the tenet of following the words of early Acharyars as they are [munnor mozhintha murai thappamal kettu]. Mamunigal’s commentaries are characterised by great clearness and completeness of exposition.  He had 8 famous disciples known as Ashtadig Gajas who were to take over the mantle and spread Sampradhayam for posterity.

Today evening, there was the grand purappadu of our Acharyar with Sri Parthasarathi.  Here are some photos of the thiruveethi purappadu.

Swami Manavala Mamunigal day 4 : Deepavali purappadu 2016

Deepavali ‘the festival of lights’ is always enchanting – an occasion to wear new clothes, eat sweets, burst crackers, be with friends and relatives – a festivity which brings enjoyment…. – the festival was grandly celebrated all over the country today (29th Oct 2016).   In the recent years, there has been some attempt to wean away people as some keep saying that ‘enthusiasm towards fireworks is going down; spiralling prices have forced people to buy less of firecrackers;  the pollution awareness is swaying public away from crackers and the like……….’.  In today’s context, at some places, people get glued to the cinemas and other special programmes the multitudes of TV channels present…. nothing to speak about reluctance to call it Hindu festival, still encashing by showing movies and cine-related programmes calling it ‘holiday – special’ ~ this year, it was Deepa Oli Thirunaal… !!!

In neighbouring Srilanka, National Deepavali Festival was held on Friday evening under the patronage of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.   The President along with the Prime Minister giving priority to the religious ceremony offered their best wishes to the Hindu people in Sri Lanka, reports the Colombo Page. Wickremesinghe issued a message on the occasion and said that Deepavali is the Festival of Lights that expels darkness when symbolic lights are lit in Hindu homes. The Prime Minister said, "In a world filled with darkness that divides us along ethnic, religious and political affiliations, Deepavali reminds us that we should strive to light the fire of fellowship among all mankind."  He added that the festival assures us that there is hope of good triumphing over evil.

Down under,    Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull wished happy “Deepavali” to the Indian community living in Australia, saying the festival is a powerful reminder that our society is greatly enriched by its diversity. Stating that Diwali is one of the most important events of the Hindu calender, observed since ancient time, Turnbull said the occassion was “deeply embedded in traditional culture, when families and friends gather together to light diyas, share gifts, and celebrate the triumph of light over darkness.”

Thiruvallikkeni, the abode of Lord Venkata Krishnan is different – it boasts of the Temple sung by 3 Azhwars ~ innumerable days of festivals; crowds thronging to have darshan of Lord Parthasarathi inside the Temple, and more gathering to have His darshan during the ‘thiruveethi purappadus’.   Each year,  Deepavali coincides with the 10 day uthsavam of Swami Manavalamamunigal, the Great Acharyar of Srivaishnavism; our beloved  Acharyar propogated Thennacharya Sampradhayam.  Generally it would be 4th or 5th day of the Uthsavam and this year it was today 29th Oct 2016  – 4th day  of  Sri Manavala Mamunigal Uthsavam.   On this day, Triplicanites eagerly look forward to the evening purappadu of Num Acharyar with Sri Parthasarathi.

In Chennai and in all parts of Tamil Nadu, it is not unusual to have rains during this season.  Last year, Chennai reeled under excessive rains.  Last year on Deepavali day, when purappadu began, at South Mada Street, there was deluge of fire crackers and colourful fireworks that lit the sky. .. but at adjacent TP Koil St., rain interrupted and there was to be chinna mada veethi purappadu only.

This year the grand purappadu of Swami Manavalamunigal with  Sri Parthasarathi Swami beaming His resplendent splendour started around 19.00 hrs – it was the lighting provided by the fireworks of various hues.  There were ‘scores  of 10000 wallahs, the sky lit with latest fireworks’  - with hundreds walking along having His darshan and enjoying the fireworks.  Here are some photos taken during the purappadu

Sri Manavala Mamunigal Uthsavam day 3 : purappadu with Sri Varadhar : 2016

There are days when you feel disturbed – not knowing what to do, doubting our beliefs and believing our doubts !!  – for those of us initiated to the feet of Sri Vaishnava Acharyas, there is no such dilemma -:

ஆசாரியர்கள் அனைவரும் முன்னாசரித்த*
ஆசாரந் தன்னை அறியாதார்* பேசுகின்ற
வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டு மருளாதே*  பூருவர்கள்
சீர்த்தநிலை தன்னை நெஞ்சே! சேர்

Our greatest Acharyan Swami Manavala mamunigal’s pasuram in Upadesa Rathinamalai has crystal clear clarity.  He advises us not to be carried away by the words of those who could not understand the ways of wise ~ for us the directed path is constantly endeavouring to the assiduous path shown by our Purva Acharyas – they by their virtue of conduct and knowledge have amply demonstrated to the Universe, the practices that perfectly match the seeker of salvation.  There need not be any vascillation at all !

The festival of Lights – Deepavali is just a day  away.  As we remember, it  rained heavily in Chennai and in many parts of Tamil Nadu, last year, during Mamunigal uthsava time  – it was a depression over Bay of Bengal.  This year too,  Meteorological and other reports predict that ‘Cyclonic Storm Kyant’  will unleash heavy rain and gusty winds on parts of eastern India  this week.  According to IMD report of date, the depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved further west-southwestwards during past 06 hours with a speed 10 kmph and weakened into a well marked low pressure area over west central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast. It is most likely to move west-southwestwards and weaken further gradually.

There has been no rain thus far ~ today (28th Oct 2016) is day 3 of Sri Manavala Mamunigal Uthsavam – today is Hastha Nakshathiram too.  In the evening  Sri Mamunigal had purappadu with Sri Varadha Rajar at Thiruvallikkeni. Here are some photos of the purappadu.

Mamunigal Uthsavam day 2 : 2016

Everyday we must think of our Greatest Acharyar – Periya Jeeyar - Saint Vara Vara Muni, the last of the ‘Poorvacharyars’ in the grand galaxy of preceptors, known as Azhagiya Manavala Nayanar, before he was ordained the holy order of  Sanyasa.  It is none other than our most adored Acharyar  “Swami Manavala Mamunigal” - the reincarnation of Sri Ramanuja who was himself an incarnation of Adisesha.

“Yathindra Pravana Prabhavam” is an ancient work on the biography of “Sri Manavala Mamunigal” written by Swamy Pillai lokam Jeeyar, (a sishya of Manavala Mamunigal)  - it  details  the lives of Swami Nampilai, Pillai lokachariar,Azhagiya Perumal Nayanar, 24,000 padi, and birth of 36,000 padi, Thiruvaimozhi Pillai and Swamy Manavala Mamunigal.  Our most reverred Acharyar lived for 73 years on this earth performing many Kainkaryams and undertook  pilgrimages to many Sri VishNavite Dhivya dEsams. Most of his life was spent however at Srirangam . his devotion to Udayavar (Yatheenthirar); Swami Nammalwar and Namperumal was extraordinary.

Today is day 2 of Acharyar ThiruAvathara Uthsavam and at Thiruvallikkeni it was Hamsa vahanam.  Could not attend the purappadu and here is a photo courtesy Agaram Sriram.  The other photo is of Manavala Mamunigal at Thirukannamangai divyadesam, courtesy Thirumeyyam Sundararaman.

Sri Manavala Mamunigal Uthsavam (திறம்பிற்றினியறிந்தேன்) day 1 : 2016

Sri Boothathazhwar guides us the easiest way to reach the abode of Sriman Narayana.  He tells us that to have the strong doors of Sri Vaikundam open, one should relinquish other faiths and fall at the feet of that Lord of Thennarangam – Sri Ranganathar.

Sri Ranganathar is the Emperor and depicting the same, He holds the sceptre -  today on day 1 of Swami Manvala Maamunigal Uthavam, Sri Parthasarathi dazzled with sceptre, Pandian throne and beautiful ornaments.  Our Acharyar Swami Manavala Mamunigal accompanied Sri Parthasarathi.

Here are some photos of the evening purappadu today ~ 26th Oct 2016.

Aippasi Thirumoolam ~ hail the birth of Acharyar Sri Manavala Mamunigal 2016

The month of Aippasi is significant.  From tomorrow starts the 10 day grand Uthsavam and the famed ‘Aippasiyil Thirumoolam’ – the birth day of our Acharyar Sri Manavala Mamunigal  falls on (Aippasi 19) 4th Nov 2016.

Swami Manavala Mamunigal  is known as ‘Yathindra Pravanar’ arising out of his irresistible attachment to the lotus feet of Sri Ramanujar known as ‘Yatheendrar’.  Sri  Manavala Mamunigal is the incarnation of Adisesha.  He was born in Alwar Thirunagari, Tamilnadu in AD 1370.  At birth he was known as ‘Azhagiya Manavala Perumal Nayanaar’.  Later he was hailed in very many names such as ‘Yatheendra Pravanar’, Ramyajamathru, Saumyajamatru, Visada-Vak-Sikhamani, Varayogi, Varavaramuni and more…..

In all our Thennacharya Srivaishnava temples and homes, we recite salutation to our Acharyan  Mamunigal  that he should live for another hundred years. The Tamil stanza which concludes with this request adds that he is needed for the well-being of the men of religion, of the temple city of Srirangam, of Nammalvar's Tamil Vedas and of the entire world surrounded by the oceans. History justifies the claim made in these prayers. The Guruparampara and Yatindra Pravana Prabhava demonstrate the greatness of Sri Varavara Muni  and one must travel back to those hard days to understand his greatness.  It was a time when mohammadean invaders plundered Srirangam and according to legend, twelve thousand Sri Vaishnavas lost their lives.

One must adore and be attached to their Acharyan and only the direction of Acharyar will lift us from all earthly evils – and for Us fallen at the feet called ‘Ponnadiyam Sengamalam’ – Swami Manavala Mamunigal will direct us and take us to salvation.

Here are some photos of grand Sarrumurai purappadu of our Acharyan at Thiruvallikkeni more than a decade ago !
