the most inspiring - bringing up of Shivalaya @ Narasingamangalam - Dusi Mamandur

We are proud to be devotees !  - we go to Temples sort of regularly and religiously. We worship Lord on special occasions, we do pooja at home and offer worship at so many religious places.  We are happy travelling far and wide to various temples – this particular step (kainkaryam) done by a Sivanadiyar group is really worth admiring and eulogizing  ‘Aran Pani Arakkattalai’  [அரன் பணி அறக்கட்டளை] whose adorable motto reads :    சிவலிங்க திருமேனிகள் வெட்டவெளியில் இல்லா நிலையை உருவாக்குவோம்

India lives in villages and our Sanathana dharma still thrives in villages.  Approx 9 kilometers away from the famous Kachi, after the river Palar lies the village of Mamandur,  for easy identification called as “Dusi Mamandur”.    In this serene village, is the small but beautiful temple of Lord Lakshmi Narayanar.    The Moolavar is Sri Arulmigu  Lakshmi Narayanar – Perumal in sitting posture having Sri Lakshmi on his lap.  Uthsavar is Shri Lakshmi Narayanar and Thayar is Sundaravalli Thayar.

 

Besides the big sprawling lake, there are  set of cave temples excavated on the eastern face of a hill running north-south in the west of the village. Mamandur is situated in proximity to Kanchi, the capital of the Pallavas. When Mahendravarman I  (600-630 CE) started his quest of constructing a temple without using materials other than stone, Mamandur would have been a natural choice being in vicinity of his capital. However, the king did not go with the obvious choice !!    nearer our village, there  are   four rock-cut shrines, numbered 1 to 4 by ASI (Archaeological Survey of India).

Today 21^st Sept 2025    (5^th  day of Purattasi) is Mahalaya Amavasai.  Navarathri uthsavam starts from day-after-tomorrow  23.9.2025  

                    முழுவினைகள் முன்னம் கழலும் முடிந்து !!   –தொழவேணுமென்று நினைத்த மாத்திரத்தில் பாவங்கள்  தொலையுமா /  அதற்க்கு நாம் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் ?? 

Often, non-conformists ridicule Hindu beliefs thinking themselves to be understanding everything ! they pretend to be rationale while carrying lot of foolish practices when it comes to self !! pity them ! – they know not, what they know not. 

Plato used the Greek word theologia (θεολογία) with the meaning "discourse on God" around 380 BCE in Republic.  Much earlier,   theological reflections in Hinduism are found in the Rig Veda, the oldest sacred text. In Hinduism,  Supreme Being is acknowledged as self-originating and the source of all phenomena, all matter on earth and space – a blemish-free, omnipresent almighty. Theology is the study of religious belief from a religious perspective, with a focus on the nature of divinity. It is taught as an academic discipline, typically in universities and seminaries. 

Sin as a moral evil is prescribed in almost all early religions.    Sin is regarded  as the deliberate and purposeful violation of the will of God. Chet literally means something that goes astray. It is a term used in archery to indicate that the arrow has missed its target. This concept of sin suggests a straying from the correct ways, from what is good and straight. Can humans be absolved of their failure and rid themselves of their guilt?  

இன்று 'மஹாளய அமாவாசை'!  .. ..  இன்று நூற்றுக்கணக்கான மக்கள் தங்கள் நம்பிக்கைப்படி மூத்தார் கடன் நீக்க கைரவினீ திருக்குளம் அருகே வரிசையில் நின்று இருந்தனர்.  பல நூறுபேர்கள் வங்க கடலில் நீராடினர். இரண்டொரு வருஷங்கள் முன்பு  நிலைமை வேறு !  -  காலை திருவல்லிக்கேணி ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி சுவாமி திருக்கோவில் வாசலில் அதிகமாக காவலர்கள் !! - கோவில் திறந்து இருந்தது - பக்தர்கள் சேவிக்க அனுமதி உண்டு ஆனால் திருக்குளம் அருகே சடங்குகள் செய்ய விரும்பிய ஹிந்து பக்தர்கள் துரத்தப்பட்டனர். 

இந்த வருஷம் திருக்கச்சி குளத்தில் பக்தர்கள் நீத்தார் கடமை செய்ய முடியாமல் தடுக்கப்பட்டனர்.  அரசாங்கமும் அதிகாரிகளும் இது போன்று அடிக்கடி, ஹிந்துக்களின் செயல்பாடுகளை எள்ளி நகையாடி பக்தர்களை துன்புறுத்துகின்றனர்.  அறநிலையத்துறை என்பது பக்தர்களுக்கு ஏதுவாக திருக்கோயில்களை பராமரிப்பது !  ஆனால் பல இடங்களில் பல சமயங்களில், இவர்களது செயல்பாடு பக்தர்களுக்கு மிக்க வருத்தத்தையே தருகிறது.

 ஏன் இப்படி இந்துக்கள் சம்பிரதாயங்கள் அனைத்துக்கும் அரசாங்க எதிர்ப்பு !!   என்பது தமிழகத்தை புரிந்தோர்க்கு வியப்பல்ல !!  ஏன் திருக்கோவிலுக்கு வரும் பக்தர்களுக்கு எந்த வசதியையும் செய்து தராமல் இடர்பாடுகள் மட்டுமே அதிகாரிகள் செய்கிறார்கள் !!  அய்யகோ சென்ற வருஷம்  -   கடற்கரை பகுதிகள், நீா்நிலைகள் மற்றும் வழிபாட்டுத்தலங்கள் ஆகிய இடங்களுக்கு  வழிபாடு  செய்ய பொதுமக்கள் செல்ல அனுமதி இல்லை எனக்கூறி பல்வேறு விதமான தொந்தரவுகள் பக்தர்களுக்கு !!

மஹாளய அமாவாசை : -  ஐதீகங்கள் !  நம்பிக்கைகள் !! சடங்குகள் ! மத நம்பிக்கைகள் !! - சிலருக்கு புரியவில்லை என்பதால் மட்டுமே இவை எவையுமே அர்த்தமற்றவை ஆகிவிடாது !!  மாளய அமாவாஸ்யை வழிபாடு இந்துக்களின் அடிப்படை ஆணிவேர் நம்பிக்கை.   வேர்கள் இல்லாது விருட்சங்கள் இல்லை; விதைகள் இல்லாது கனிகள் இல்லை. முன்னோர்களின் சாயல் இல்லாமல் நம் தலைமுறைகளே இல்லை என்கிறது கருட புராணம். வாழையடி வாழையென நம்மை வாழ்விக்கும்  முன்னோர்களை மகாளய அமாவாசை தினத்தில்  முடிந்த அளவுக்கு வழிபட்டு நலமும் வளமும் பெறுதல்  ஹிந்து தர்மம். 

‘மகாளய தானம் மகத்தான தானம்' என்கின்றன புனித நூல்கள்.  'மறந்து போனவர்களை மாகாளயத்தில் சேர்' என்பது பழமொழி. ஏழேழ் தலைமுறையைச் சேர்ந்த முன்னோர்களுக்கும் அவர்களுக்கான பித்ரு காரியங்களைச் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பது ஹிந்து  தர்மங்கள் நமக்கு விதித்திருக்கும் கட்டளை. பெற்றோர்களைப் பேணுதல், தெய்வ ஆராதனை, அதிதி வரவேற்பு, சந்நியாசிகளைப் போற்றுதல், பித்ரு காரியங்கள் என ஐவகை தர்மங்களைக் கட்டாயம் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்கின்றன சாஸ்திரங்கள்.   திதி, தர்ப்பணம் என்னும் வகையில் நீர் நிலைகளுக்கு அருகே எள்ளும் நீரும் பிண்டமும் கொடுத்து செய்யப்படும் ஒரு வழிபாடு.  மூதாதையர்களுக்கு  மக்கள்  நன்றி காட்டும் நாளே மகாளய அமாவாசை.   

Theology is sound rationale and it leaves strong impressions, its distinctive marks  upon those who claim to have become emancipated from its influence. Roman writers such as Horace extolled virtues, and they listed and warned against vices. His first epistles say that "to flee vice is the beginning of virtue and to have got rid of folly is the beginning of wisdom." The seven deadly sins can be tracked all the way back to the 4th century, when a monk named Evagrius Ponticus made a list of basically all the problems he saw in his time. His list comprised of gluttony, fornication, greed, pride, sadness, wrath, and dejection. 

Judaism regards the violation of any of the 613 commandments as a sin. Judaism teaches that to sin is a part of life, since there is no perfect human and everyone has an inclination to do evil "from youth", though people are born sinless. Sin has many classifications and degrees.  According to Jewish tradition, the Torah contains 613 commandments   first recorded in the 3rd century CE, when Rabbi Simlai mentioned it in a sermon that is recorded in Talmud Makkot.  Unintentional sins are considered less severe sins. Sins committed out of lack of knowledge are not considered sins. When the Temple yet stood in Jerusalem, people would offer korbanot (sacrifices) for their misdeeds. For the most part, korbanot only expiate unintentional sins committed as a result of human forgetfulness or error. No atonement is needed for violations committed under duress or through lack of knowledge, and for the most part, korbanot cannot atone for malicious, deliberate sin. In addition, korbanot have no expiating effect unless the person making the offering sincerely repents of his or her actions before making the offering, and makes restitution to any person(s) harmed by the violation.

புரட்டாசி மாதத்தில் வரும் அமாவாசை மகாளாய அமாவாசை என்று கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.  இந்த நாளில்  நீர்நிலைகளில் புனித நீராடி கோவில்களில் பக்தர்கள் தரிசனம் செய்வது வழக்கம். அதேபோல் முன்னோர்கள் நினைவாக நீர் நிலைகளின் அருகில் தர்ப்பணம் கொடுத்தும் வழிபடுவார்கள். 

அதுநன்று  இது தீது என்று ஐயப்படாதே,

மதுநின்ற தண்டுழாய் மார்வன், - பொதுநின்ற

பொன்னங்கழலே தொழுமின், முழுவினைகள்

முன்னங்கழலும் முடிந்து.

 

இந்த பூவுலகில் - ‘அது நல்லதோ? இது கெட்டதோ?‘ என்று ஸந்தேஹப்பட்டு ஐயுற வேண்டா ! நம் பேயாழ்வார் அருளுரை இதோ :   எவ்வித மனக்கிலேசமும் இல்லமால், தேன்நிறைந்த தண்டுழாய் மாலையைத் திருமார்பிலணிந்த எம்பெருமானான ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனின்  அழகிய, விரும்பத்தக்க திருவடிகளை பற்றி தொழுதால் ஒன்றே போதுமே ! நமது முழு பாவங்களும் முடிந்து,  கஷ்டங்கள் எல்லாம் நம்மை நீங்கும்.   நலம் தரும் சொல் 'நாராயணா  என்ற நாமமே *'.  

In astronomy, the new moon [Amavasyai]  is the first lunar phase, when the Moon and Sun have the same ecliptic longitude. At this phase, the lunar disk is not visible to the unaided eye, but its presence may be detected because it occults stars behind it.  

Ever heard of a moon by name ‘Europa’ ?  Europa also  Jupiter II, is the smallest of the four Galilean moons orbiting Jupiter, and the sixth-closest to the planet of all the 80 known moons of Jupiter. It is also the sixth-largest moon in the Solar System. Europa was discovered in 1610 by Galileo Galilei and was named after Europa, the Phoenician mother of King Minos of Crete and lover of Zeus (the Greek equivalent of the Roman god Jupiter).  Slightly smaller than Earth's Moon, Europa is primarily made of silicate rock and has a water-ice crus  and probably an iron–nickel core. It has a very thin atmosphere, composed primarily of oxygen.   In addition to Earth-bound telescope observations, Europa has been examined by a succession of space-probe flybys, the first occurring in the early 1970s.   

Back home, on the important Mahalaya Amavasai day, Sri Parthasarathi Perumal had periya mada veethi purappadu.  In this earthly World, most worries are in determining – what is good and what is not – why doubt all these, when you have the simplest way out ?   Sri Peyalwar offers his golden advice – he says :  the simplest thing in life that we can do, is worship the Golden feet of Sriman Narayana with a Tulsi garland on this chest,  who is easily accessible to every one of His bakthas.  The sins and karma would vanish without a trace before we age.

Significance of temple town of Kanchi

God is everywhere !  ~  and all religions are same – perhaps two wrong notions that Secularism thrust on us.  We learnt things wrong way – doubting our beliefs and believing our doubts !

When it comes to understanding God, mostly we do not quite understand what is God. Often we find a pervasive view that God is impersonal, like an indescribable force of which we are all a part. Or that everything is God, or that we are all God, or that God is love, or God is the Absolute Truth, and so on.   The Vedic literature gives detailed information on each of these aspects, no matter whether it is the impersonal aspect of God, called the Brahman, or the very personal nature of the Supreme, called Bhagavan.  In Vedanta treatises,   commentaries  revolve around the topic of the Brahman. The Brahman generally means the all-pervading, self-existent power. The concept of the Brahman was, for the most part, first developed in the Upanishads. There we begin to find descriptions from which our understanding of it grows. It is invisible, ungraspable, eternal, without qualities, and the imperishable source of all things. (Mundaka Upanishad 1.1.6-7)

Aren’t all religions the same?” No. Every religion is different.  Some   who have vested interest of building their empires propagate the idea that all religions are the same.  So any religions will give the same result ? – not that  is not the fact.  Hinduism is great as it respects every religion and allows itself to be questioned unlike some religions which preach others to be crushed.  They are able to   take their practitioners to different levels of philosophical understanding, spiritual knowledge, levels of consciousness, and different abilities to perceive spiritual Truth.  Not all religions are congenial   and respectful toward members of other religions, while some members of particular religions are not respectful toward those that are different, are quick to call them infidels and other derogatory names, and say that they are going to hell, or tell them that they need to convert in order to be “saved”. This is certainly due to a different perspective and a lack of understanding that we all worship the same Supreme Being, though in different ways or expressions.

If  religions can be compared to the difference between an abridged dictionary and one that is unabridged – both may contain some part but one is vastly supreme.  If you are going to have a dictionary, you might want to get the best one available, and that would be the unabridged dictionary, or the one that is most complete in its knowledge. And that is like the Vedic spiritual texts, which compiles a library of texts for those who want to understand the intricacies of spiritual knowledge.    The first verse of the Vedanta-sutras states: "athato brahma-jijnasa", which means, "Now is the time to inquire about the Absolute Truth." Why is it time? Because we are presently in the human form of life and should utilize it properly since only in the human form do we have the intelligence and facility to be able to understand spiritual reality. In animal forms, the living entities cannot understand such things because they do not have the brain power. So we should not waste this human form of life by pursuing only the animalistic propensities, such as eating, sleeping, mating, and defending. Therefore, the Vedanta-sutras begin by stating that now is the time for us to understand the Absolute Truth.

Synonymous with spirituality, serenity, and silk, the temple town of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, is dotted with ancient temples that are architectural marvels and a visual treat.   Situated on the banks of River Vegavathi, this historical city once had 1,000 temples, of which only 126 (108 Shaiva and 18 Vaishnava) now remain. Its rich legacy has been the endowment of the Pallava dynasty, which made the region its capital between the 6th and 7th centuries and lavished upon its architectural gems that are a fine example of Dravidian styles.

Kanchipuram, one of the reputed Muktikshetras, lies around 78 kms from Madras and was one of the best known places in South India to early travellers and visitors.  Kanchi was  famous along with Takshasila, Varanasi, Valabhl, Nalanda and other great centres  of learning. Patanjali, as early as the 2nd century B.C., gives the word Kanchlpuraka  to explain a derivation meaning ‘one associated and hailing from Kanchi.  The famous Talagunda inscription of the Kadarhba king Kakutsthavarman, in tracing the origin of the Kadamba family, vividly describes how Mayurasarman, the founder  of this family, went to Kanchipuram along with his teacher, to give finishing touches to his Vedic learning by studying the highest realms of thought in the field, possible only in Kanchipuram, at that time, reputed for its famous university, Ghatika . 

Hiuen-Tsang, the Chinese traveller who  came to Kanchi early in the 7th century A.D., has praised the city for its intellectual eminence and its love for learning. It is no wonder, since the rulers like Mahendravarman were versatile, prolific in writing and great patrons of art and literature. Buddhism and Jainism also flourished and  Jaina Kanchi is yet an important adjunct of Kanchi. Dharmapala, the great Buddhist scholar at Nalanda, was from Kanchi.  There are two great temples that adorn Kanchi today as the most conspicuous,  the Ekambareswarar and Sri DEvathirajar.    

For a  Srivaishnavaite, Perumal Koil refers to “Sri Varadharaja Swamy thirukovil’ at Kanchipuram.  Legend has it that Brahma performed Asvamedha yaga at mokshapuri i.e., Kanchi and Lord Vishnu emerged out of the fire with Sanku Chakram. It is believed that the annual Uthsavam was initiated by Brahma himself. Indira’s white elephant Iravatham took the form of a hill called Hastigiri on which shrine of Varadharajar is located. This Emperuman  is known by various names, prominent among them being : Devarajar, Devathirajar, Thepperumal, Varadhar, PerArulalar … 

Now is the time for the annual Brahmothsavam of Sri Devathi Rajar.  Garuda Sevai and   Thiruther  are among the most important ones drawing crowds in lakhs.  Here are some photos of Sri Varadharajar in Hamsa vahanam on day 1 of Uthsavam at Thiruvallikkeni this evening.

Mustang Caves or Sky Caves of Nepal are a collection of some 10,000 man-made caves dug into the sides of valleys in the Mustang District of Nepal.    Explorations of these caves by conservators and archaeologists have been going for centuries – they are situate  on the steep valley walls near the Kali Gandaki River in Upper Mustang. Research groups have continued to investigate these caves, but no one has yet understood who built the caves and why they were built.   

We were not exploring but were on pilgrimage to the unique divyadesam outside Bharatha kandam -   situate at an altitude of 3,710 meters (12,172 feet)  at the foot of the Thorong La mountain pass (part of the Himalayas) in Mustang, Nepal. Certainly the one situate at the highest altitude.  The name "Mustang" is derived from the Tibetan word meaning, "Plain of Aspiration” ~ and here is our holy shrine Muktinath.   

Jomsom has an airport and is reachable from Kathmandu & Pokhara.  The local name for Muktinath is Chumig Gyatsa (Hundred Waters). The tradional caretakers of Muktinath-Chumig Gyatsa are the Tibetan Buddhist Chumig Gyatsa ('Muktinath') nuns.  Muktinath is Sanskrit name, has religious overtone and emotional attachment for Sri Vaishnavas.   Mukthi is salvation and the Emperuman in sitting posture here -  Muktinath, is the provider of salvation.   

From Jomsom one travels by Jeep for an hour or so ~ and from that jeep point – further 45 mins to an hour by walk or on a pony takes to you a small beautiful temple dedicated to Sriman Narayana – this place was seen much closer to our Mukthinath temple.   

Chumig Gyatsa is one of the 24 Buddhist Tantric places. The first Shangpa Rinpoche repaired the spouts in Chumig Gyatsa during his time.  Shangpa Rinpoche rebuilt sevaral monasteries in the Himalayas of Nepal, like the famous Sandul Gompa in West Nepal near Tarakot, and at his inspiration in West Nepal new temples and stupas were built. Just near the pilgrimage site Muktinath-Chumig Gysatsa Rinpoche built a nunnery.

Mahalaya Amavasai 2024 ~ அதுநன்று இது தீது என்று ஐயப்படாதே !!

Today 2^nd Oct 2024    (16^th  day of Purattasi) is Mahalaya Amavasai.  Navarathri uthsavam starts from day-after-tomorrow  4.10.2024  

                    முழுவினைகள் முன்னம் கழலும் முடிந்து !!   –தொழவேணுமென்று நினைத்த மாத்திரத்தில் பாவங்கள்  தொலையுமா /  அதற்க்கு நாம் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் ?? 

Often, non-conformists ridicule Hindu beliefs thinking themselves to be understanding everything ! pity them ! – they know not, what they know not.

 

Plato used the Greek word theologia (θεολογία) with the meaning "discourse on god" around 380 BCE in Republic.  Much earlier,   theological reflections in Hinduism are found in the Rig Veda, the oldest sacred text. In Hinduism,  Supreme Being is acknowledged as self-originating and the source of all phenomena, all matter on earth and space. Theology is the study of religious belief from a religious perspective, with a focus on the nature of divinity. It is taught as an academic discipline, typically in universities and seminaries. 

Sin as a moral evil is prescribed in almost all early religions.    Sin is regarded  as the deliberate and purposeful violation of the will of God. Chet literally means something that goes astray. It is a term used in archery to indicate that the arrow has missed its target. This concept of sin suggests a straying from the correct ways, from what is good and straight. Can humans be absolved of their failure and rid themselves of their guilt?  

இன்று 'மஹாளய அமாவாசை'!  .. ..  இன்று நூற்றுக்கணக்கான மக்கள் தங்கள் நம்பிக்கைப்படி மூத்தார் கடன் நீக்க கைரவினீ திருக்குளம் அருகே வரிசையில் நின்று இருந்தனர்.  பல நூறுபேர்கள் வங்க கடலில் நீராடினர். இரண்டொரு வருஷங்கள் முன்பு  நிலைமை வேறு !  -  காலை திருவல்லிக்கேணி ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி சுவாமி திருக்கோவில் வாசலில் அதிகமாக காவலர்கள் !! - கோவில் திறந்து இருந்தது - பக்தர்கள் சேவிக்க அனுமதி உண்டு ஆனால் திருக்குளம் அருகே சடங்குகள் செய்ய விரும்பிய ஹிந்து பக்தர்கள் துரத்தப்பட்டனர்.  ஏன் இப்படி இந்துக்கள் சம்பிரதாயங்கள் அனைத்துக்கும் அரசாங்க எதிர்ப்பு !!   என்பது தமிழகத்தை புரிந்தோர்க்கு வியப்பல்ல !!  ஏன் திருக்கோவிலுக்கு வரும் பக்தர்களுக்கு எந்த வசதியையும் செய்து தராமல் இடர்பாடுகள் மட்டுமே அதிகாரிகள் செய்கிறார்கள் !!  அய்யகோ சென்ற வருஷம்  -   கடற்கரை பகுதிகள், நீா்நிலைகள் மற்றும் வழிபாட்டுத்தலங்கள் ஆகிய இடங்களுக்கு  வழிபாடு  செய்ய பொதுமக்கள் செல்ல அனுமதி இல்லை எனக்கூறி பல்வேறு விதமான தொந்தரவுகள் பக்தர்களுக்கு !!

மஹாளய அமாவாசை : -  ஐதீகங்கள் !  நம்பிக்கைகள் !! சடங்குகள் ! மத நம்பிக்கைகள் !! - சிலருக்கு புரியவில்லை என்பதால் மட்டுமே இவை எவையுமே அர்த்தமற்றவை ஆகிவிடாது !!  மாளய அமாவாஸ்யை வழிபாடு இந்துக்களின் அடிப்படை ஆணிவேர் நம்பிக்கை.   வேர்கள் இல்லாது விருட்சங்கள் இல்லை; விதைகள் இல்லாது கனிகள் இல்லை. முன்னோர்களின் சாயல் இல்லாமல் நம் தலைமுறைகளே இல்லை என்கிறது கருட புராணம். வாழையடி வாழையென நம்மை வாழ்விக்கும்  முன்னோர்களை மகாளய அமாவாசை தினத்தில்  முடிந்த அளவுக்கு வழிபட்டு நலமும் வளமும் பெறுதல்  ஹிந்து தர்மம். 

‘மகாளய தானம் மகத்தான தானம்' என்கின்றன புனித நூல்கள்.  'மறந்து போனவர்களை மாகாளயத்தில் சேர்' என்பது பழமொழி. ஏழேழ் தலைமுறையைச் சேர்ந்த முன்னோர்களுக்கும் அவர்களுக்கான பித்ரு காரியங்களைச் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பது ஹிந்து  தர்மங்கள் நமக்கு விதித்திருக்கும் கட்டளை. பெற்றோர்களைப் பேணுதல், தெய்வ ஆராதனை, அதிதி வரவேற்பு, சந்நியாசிகளைப் போற்றுதல், பித்ரு காரியங்கள் என ஐவகை தர்மங்களைக் கட்டாயம் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்கின்றன சாஸ்திரங்கள்.   திதி, தர்ப்பணம் என்னும் வகையில் நீர் நிலைகளுக்கு அருகே எள்ளும் நீரும் பிண்டமும் கொடுத்து செய்யப்படும் ஒரு வழிபாடு.  மூதாதையர்களுக்கு  மக்கள்  நன்றி காட்டும் நாளே மகாளய அமாவாசை.   

Theology is sound rationale and it leaves strong impressions, its distinctive marks  upon those who claim to have become emancipated from its influence. Roman writers such as Horace extolled virtues, and they listed and warned against vices. His first epistles say that "to flee vice is the beginning of virtue and to have got rid of folly is the beginning of wisdom." The seven deadly sins can be tracked all the way back to the 4th century, when a monk named Evagrius Ponticus made a list of basically all the problems he saw in his time. His list comprised of gluttony, fornication, greed, pride, sadness, wrath, and dejection. 

Judaism regards the violation of any of the 613 commandments as a sin. Judaism teaches that to sin is a part of life, since there is no perfect human and everyone has an inclination to do evil "from youth", though people are born sinless. Sin has many classifications and degrees.  According to Jewish tradition, the Torah contains 613 commandments   first recorded in the 3rd century CE, when Rabbi Simlai mentioned it in a sermon that is recorded in Talmud Makkot.  Unintentional sins are considered less severe sins. Sins committed out of lack of knowledge are not considered sins. When the Temple yet stood in Jerusalem, people would offer korbanot (sacrifices) for their misdeeds. For the most part, korbanot only expiate unintentional sins committed as a result of human forgetfulness or error. No atonement is needed for violations committed under duress or through lack of knowledge, and for the most part, korbanot cannot atone for malicious, deliberate sin. In addition, korbanot have no expiating effect unless the person making the offering sincerely repents of his or her actions before making the offering, and makes restitution to any person(s) harmed by the violation.

புரட்டாசி மாதத்தில் வரும் அமாவாசை மகாளாய அமாவாசை என்று கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.  இந்த நாளில்  நீர்நிலைகளில் புனித நீராடி கோவில்களில் பக்தர்கள் தரிசனம் செய்வது வழக்கம். அதேபோல் முன்னோர்கள் நினைவாக நீர் நிலைகளின் அருகில் தர்ப்பணம் கொடுத்தும் வழிபடுவார்கள். 

 

அதுநன்று  இது தீது என்று ஐயப்படாதே,

மதுநின்ற தண்டுழாய் மார்வன், - பொதுநின்ற

பொன்னங்கழலே தொழுமின், முழுவினைகள்

முன்னங்கழலும் முடிந்து.

 

இந்த பூவுலகில் - ‘அது நல்லதோ? இது கெட்டதோ?‘ என்று ஸந்தேஹப்பட்டு ஐயுற வேண்டா ! நம் பேயாழ்வார் அருளுரை இதோ :   எவ்வித மனக்கிலேசமும் இல்லமால், தேன்நிறைந்த தண்டுழாய் மாலையைத் திருமார்பிலணிந்த எம்பெருமானான ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனின்  அழகிய, விரும்பத்தக்க திருவடிகளை பற்றி தொழுதால் ஒன்றே போதுமே ! நமது முழு பாவங்களும் முடிந்து,  கஷ்டங்கள் எல்லாம் நம்மை நீங்கும்.   நலம் தரும் சொல் 'நாராயணா  என்ற நாமமே *'.  

In astronomy, the new moon [Amavasyai]  is the first lunar phase, when the Moon and Sun have the same ecliptic longitude. At this phase, the lunar disk is not visible to the unaided eye, but its presence may be detected because it occults stars behind it.  

Ever heard of a moon by name ‘Europa’ ?  Europa also  Jupiter II, is the smallest of the four Galilean moons orbiting Jupiter, and the sixth-closest to the planet of all the 80 known moons of Jupiter. It is also the sixth-largest moon in the Solar System. Europa was discovered in 1610 by Galileo Galilei and was named after Europa, the Phoenician mother of King Minos of Crete and lover of Zeus (the Greek equivalent of the Roman god Jupiter).  Slightly smaller than Earth's Moon, Europa is primarily made of silicate rock and has a water-ice crus  and probably an iron–nickel core. It has a very thin atmosphere, composed primarily of oxygen.   In addition to Earth-bound telescope observations, Europa has been examined by a succession of space-probe flybys, the first occurring in the early 1970s.   

Back home, on the important Mahalaya Amavasai day, Sri Parthasarathi Perumal had periya mada veethi purappadu.  In this earthly World, most worries are in determining – what is good and what is not – why doubt all these, when you have the simplest way out ?   Sri Peyalwar offers his golden advice – he says :  the simplest thing in life that we can do, is worship the Golden feet of Sriman Narayana with a Tulsi garland on this chest,  who is easily accessible to every one of His bakthas.  The sins and karma would vanish without a trace before we age.
