The perfectly aligned rows of pillars create a striking perspective, drawing
the devotee's gaze naturally towards the sanctum, symbolizing the spiritual
journey from the material world to the Divine.

Arulmigu Adi Kumbeswarar
Temple is a Paadal Petra Sthalam is closely associated
with the origin legend of Kumbakonam and the Mahamaham festival, it is both a
major pilgrimage destination and a landmark of South Indian temple
architecture. The temple is dedicated to
Lord Shiva as Adi Kumbeswarar, with Goddess Mangalambigai as the consort deity.
According to temple tradition, Shiva manifested here from the divine pot
(kumbha) containing the seeds of creation after the cosmic deluge, a legend
that is said to have given Kumbakonam its name. The temple traces its origins
to the Chola period and was later expanded by the Nayak rulers. Its towering
Dravidian-style gopurams, spacious corridors, and richly carved mandapams are
among its defining architectural features.
The devotional hymns
dedicated to Lord Kumbeswarar form a significant part of the Thevaram (the
first seven volumes of the Tirumurai) composed by the 7th-century saint poets

There is something
delightful about encountering such a work found in an airport corridor.
Airports are generally associated with hurried journeys, flight announcements
and the movement of people. Yet, here, a moment of stillness and traditional
Indian art offers a different experience to the traveller.
A piece of India's
artistic and spiritual heritage, displayed not within the sanctum of a temple,
but along the passage of a modern airport – Mumbai Terminal 1 — a reminder that our cultural traditions find a place in the most contemporary public spaces.

Even in modern
days, a trip to Badrinath dham is arduous.Sri Badrinath Dham —
Badari Vishal— is among the most reverred Vaishnava
kshetras, set high in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand at about 3,133 metres, on the bank of
the sacred Alaknanda.Beyond Badrinath, is the
Mana village, touted as India’s first village, customary for people to go,
drink chai, and post on social media.
A few kilometers up - begins
the sacred trail traditionally associated with the Pandavas’ Mahaprasthan —
their final journey towards Swarga. The route past Bhim Pul and Vasudhara,
towards the high Himalayan region of Satopanth and the Swargarohini glacier,
evokes the timeless story of Yudhishthira’s ascent to heaven.”
Nestled in the Garhwal
Himalayas of Uttarakhand, Mana is a picturesque mountain village situated about
3–4 km from Sri Badrinath Temple, at an altitude of approximately 3,200 metres.
Located near the India–Tibet frontier, it has long been celebrated for its
extraordinary natural beauty, ancient traditions and deep connections with
Hindu mythology. The Uttarakhand government has designated it a Tourism
Village.Beyond the village, the trail
winds through the magnificent Himalayan landscape towards Vasudhara Falls and
the remote Satopanth region, forever associated in popular tradition with the
Pandavas' ascent to Swarga.Mana is thus
much more than a scenic mountain hamlet. It is a place where the grandeur of
the Himalayas, the sanctity of Badrinath and the timeless narratives of the
Mahabharata converge — leaving the pilgrim with a profound sense of wonder and
reverence.
Bhim Pul, a natural rock bridge over the
Saraswati River - . Bhima placed this
enormous rock across the river to enable Draupadi to cross.Beyond Mana, the trail leads towards
Vasudhara Falls and the remote Satopanth region, which is traditionally
associated with the Pandavas' ascent to heaven.

Swargarohana Parva notes that after entering heaven, Yudhishthira
is frustrated to find people in heaven who had sinned on earth. He then asks
for a visit to hell and there he finds people who he thought were good and
virtuous on earth. He questions whether Gods were fair at all, whether virtue
during earthly life means anything ever and then in anger demands that he be
sent to hell so he can be with those people who were good, just, virtuous, who
he loved and who loved him. The Gods then remove the fake hell they had created
for show. Lord Dharma appears and says that this has been a third test of
Yudhishthira, and congratulates him for always standing up for justice, truth,
virtue and other aspects of Dharma.

Hara Hara Mahadev !!
Towering
above the sacred landscape of Haridwar, Mahādeva stands in majestic
tranquillity — the crescent moon adorning His locks, the serpent coiled around
Him, and the Trishula held aloft. With one hand raised in abhaya, He seems to
offer assurance to all who seek refuge in Him. At the gateway to the holy
Ganga, the presence of Gangādhara evokes the timeless union of divine grace,
cosmic power and infinite compassionHara Hara Mahādeva!
Salutations
to Lord Shiva, who wears the king of serpents as His garland, who has three
eyes, whose body is adorned with sacred ash, and who is the Great Lord. He is
eternal, pure and clothed in the directions themselves. Salutations to that
divine form represented by the syllable Na in the sacred mantra Namaḥ Śivāya
The magnificent statue of
Lord Shiva at Haridwar, near the sacred Har Ki Pauri, is one of the most
recognisable landmarks in this holy city
in Uttarakhand. Standing majestically in
the vicinity of the Ganga, the towering Shiv Murti forms a striking presence in
Haridwar’s spiritual landscape.
The statue is rich in the traditional symbolism
associated with Lord Shiva:
üAbhaya
Hasta:signifies fearlessness,
protection and reassurance to devotees.
üTrishula:
The trident represents His divine power.
üThe
serpent: The nāga adorning symbolises mastery
over fear and death.
üThe
crescent moon adorning His matted locks
is associated with time and the cosmic order.
üThe
blue complexion: evokes the legend of Neelakantha, the Lord who
consumed the halāhala poison during the churning of the ocean.
üThe
serene countenance: calm expression
conveys the profound stillness of the supreme yogi, undisturbed by the
ceaseless activity of the world.
The setting
of this statue is particularly meaningful. Haridwar — Hari-dvāra, the gateway
to the divine — is one of the most sacred destinations on the banks of the
Ganga. The river, the ghats, the chanting of mantras and the evening Ganga
ārati together create an atmosphere of devotion. Shiva is revered as
Gangādhara, the Lord who received the celestial Ganga upon His matted locks and
moderated her descent to the earth. Thus, a monumental image of Mahadeva
overlooking the sacred landscape of Haridwar carries a significance that
extends beyond its sheer size.
The statue is a prominent landmark near Har Ki Pauri, and not any principal deity enshrined in a
traditional temple sanctum

It perhaps is the ultimate dream of a
Srivaishnavaite – darshan at the most holy Sri
Badrinath dham. It is not easy even in the modern World. As we travelled, the bus
would stop – one would find scores of
vehicle in a line (mostly disciplined !) – the gorges on the mountain offer a
very pleasant at the same time a fearsome view ! One could see river
flowing all the way – yet the vehicle passing on a ridge could evoke
fear.
In most Srivaishnava
temples, there is dwajasthambam and we start with prostration before the
kodimaram.This
post is not about dwajasthambam but about the holy flag that flutters atop
garbagraham at some temples and the hoisting of it.
At holy
Puri, for a pilgrim approaching Puri, the flag and Nilachakra can be seen from
afar, even before entering the temple. Traditionally, therefore, the distant
sight itself becomes a kind of first darśana — Jagannath's presence reaching the
devotee before the devotee reaches Him.Here - “the
daily ceremonial changing of the Patitapāvana Bana atop the Nilachakra of Sri
Jagannath Temple is a great spectacle.” “Every evening at Sri Jagannath Dham, a
hereditary sevaka climbs the soaring śikhara and ceremonially replaces the
sacred Patitapāvana
flag above the Nilachakra — a spectacular act of devotion performed high above
Puri.”
Sri Badrinath Dham — Badari Vishal— is among the most reverred Vaishnava kshetras, set high in the
Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand at about 3,133 metres,
on the bank of the sacred Alaknanda.
The temple is dedicated to Sri Badarinarayana,
Sriman Narayana in a meditative posture,
and stands amid the great mountain setting associated with Nara
and Narayana. When
Narayana performed tapas here, Sri Mahalakshmi is assumed
the form of a Badari tree—a wild berry or
jujube tree—to shelter Him from the harsh Himalayan elements. Hence the Lord
became Badarinatha,
the Lord of Badari. The region is also traditionally regarded as the tapas-bhumi
of Nara–Narayana
Rishis.
In
daylight, one sees the bright temple, rushing Alaknanda and immense mountains
enclosing the valley. As evening descends, the character changes dramatically:
the sunlight disappears behind the mountains, temperatures fall quickly, and
the illuminated temple seems almost isolated in the vast darkness of the
Himalayas. For a pilgrim who has actually stood there after nightfall, “Dham”
begins to feel more appropriate than simply “temple.”
At Sri
Jagannath Temple, Puri, the flag-changing ceremony atop the Nilachakra
is a remarkable daily ritual. The temple flag,
commonly called Patitapāvana Bana,
is replaced every day, traditionally around sunset. The servitor climbs the
towering temple spire barefoot and without modern
climbing equipment, reaches the Nilachakra at the summit,
removes the existing flag and fixes the fresh one. The act is not treated as
ordinary hoisting and lowering of a national-style flag; it is a seva
to Lord Jagannath, carried out according to temple tradition.
Odisha Tourism even includes witnessing the evening “Flag Hosting ritual” as a
specific part of its Puri pilgrimage itinerary

.. .. a
trip to Badrinath / Kedarnath or to Haridwar is not complete without visiting
mystic Rishikesh.
Epics note
that Lord Rama and Lakshmana stayed here so Rama could perform
penance to cleanse himself of the sin of slaying the demon-king Ravana. Lakshmana crossed
the raging Ganges using a simple jute-rope bridge, a feat commemorated by the
historic Lakshman Jhula.High above the
town sits the holy Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, the spot where Lord Shiva drank
the cosmic poison (Halahala) generated during the churning of the primordial
ocean (Samudra Manthan). His throat turned blue to save creation, earning him
the name Neelkanth.
Rishikesh is a holy city, sits on the banks of the sacred
Ganges River at the foothills of the Shivalik Himalayas, and has served as a
revered sanctuary for ancient sages, gods, and spiritual seekers for millennia
A must see here is iconic “Ram
Jhula” -an iconic 750-foot-long (230-meter) iron
suspension bridge stretching across the holy Ganges River. Built in 1986 by the Public Works Department
(PWD), it stands as one of the most prominent spiritual and cultural landmarks
of the city. It connects the vibrant Sivananda Nagar area of Muni Ki Reti on
the western bank to the historic Swargashram area on the eastern bank. Right now it is under maintenance and access
is not possible !!It was originally a hanging footbridge made of
tightly woven jute ropes without any structural pillars. It was later
reinforced into its current iron structure. Named
after Lord Rama from the epic Ramayana, it mirrors its famous counterpart,
Lakshman Jhula, located about 2 kilometres upstream. It is actually the larger
of the two twin bridges.
Around 6.51 pm on
19.9.2026 – our auto stopped very
briefly on the other side of Ram Jhula giving a fleeting view of the Ganga
harathi and with trees and foliage – view was bit constrained. The brightly
illuminated riverside complex across is part of the Swarg Ashram–Parmarth. Parmarth
Niketan's ghat is on the east bank near Ram Jhula and is the best-known major
aarti location in this stretch.
Most interestingly, the red-lit
multi-storeyed structure high on the hill is Bhootnath Temple that stands uphill in the Swarg Ashram area, behind
the riverside ashram zone.
The scene therefore reads roughly as
follows: Ram Jhula at far left →
Ganga in the foreground → Swarg
Ashram/Parmarth-side ghats and temples across the river → forested hillside rising behind → Bhootnath Temple glowing red above the
settlement. The buildings immediately behind the ghat are the dense
ashram/temple/guest-house development of the Swarg Ashram side rather than a
single identifiable monument.
Parmarth Niketan is a true
spiritual haven, lying on the holy banks of Mother Ganga in the lap of the lush
Himalayas. It is the largest ashram in Rishikesh, providing its thousands of
pilgrims who come from all corners of the Earth with a clean, pure and sacred
atmosphere as well as abundant, beautiful gardens.
The photograph contains several distinct
layers: Ram Jhula on the far left; the Ganga occupying the foreground; the
illuminated riverside ghat and temple buildings in the centre; the Muni Ki
Reti/Swarg Ashram settlement climbing behind; and the forested Shivalik
foothills enclosing everything. The long golden and blue reflections from the
aarti are particularly effective in the picture — the bridge entering from the
left and the leaves framing the top make it much more than a straightforward
aarti photograph.
The illustrative map gives
complete idea of the location, the hills, rivers and important places.
