Only Lord Sriman Narayana can bestow immortality ~

In Greek mythology – ‘ambrosia’ - is the food of the Greek gods, often depicted as conferring longevity or immortality upon whoever consumed it.  It was brought to the gods in Olympus by doves and served by either Hebe or Ganymede at the heavenly feast. Ambrosia is sometimes depicted in ancient art as distributed by a nymph labeled with that name and a nurse of Dionysus.

An elixir is a sweet liquid used for medical purposes, to be taken orally and intended to cure one's illness.  When used as a pharmaceutical preparation, an elixir contains at least one active ingredient designed to be taken orally.  The elixir of life, also known as elixir of immortality and sometimes equated with the name philosopher's stone, is a potion that supposedly grants the drinker eternal life and/or eternal youth. This elixir was also said to cure all diseases. Alchemists in various ages and cultures sought the means of formulating the elixir.

The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic poem from ancient Mesopotamia, regarded as among  the earliest surviving notable literature.  Gilgamesh  was a major hero in ancient Mesopotamian mythology and the protagonist of the Epic of Gilgamesh, an epic poem written in Akkadian during the late 2nd millennium BC. He was likely a historical king of the Sumerian city-state of Uruk, who was posthumously deified.  Tales of Gilgamesh's legendary exploits are narrated in five surviving Sumerian poems.   In the second half of the epic, distress causes Gilgamesh to undertake a long and perilous journey to discover the secret of eternal life.

Amirtham, Amrut, Amrit, Sudha and more    literally means "immortality" and is often referred to in ancient Indian texts as nectar, ambrosia  and carries the same meaning.  Its first occurrence is in the Rigveda, where it is considered one of several synonyms for soma, the drink of the devas.

The only God capable of ameliorating, reducing, eliminating all our stress, fear and difficulties is Sriman Narayana, one who provided amrut to Devas.  In these difficult times, let us pray to Sriman Narayana for eradication of  dreaded Corona and all other evils from the society.

Here are some photos from the Amavasai purappadu of Sri Parthasarathi perumal at Thiruvallikkeni on 12.1.2021.  Looking forward and praying Emperuman for revival of happy days – of purappadu, darshan of Perumal and kainkaryam.
