Irapathu uthsavam day 5 (2022) - @ Thiruvallikkeni Divyadesam
Today Monday (17.1.2022) is day 5 of Irapathu Uthsavam – Sunday marked the total lockdown in the
State. However since Govt has issued
order for keeping away devotees till 18.1.2022 – we cannot worship Emperuman
today too.
People of this globe have never imagined this before – we all heard something of a virus affecting people in far off China around this time in 2020 – by March, there were some cases reported in Chennai and other parts of India, came the lockdown in 24.3.2020 and .. .. .. the World is now used to living in lockdowns, partial opening, mass gatherings, and more – and everyone has experienced how bad the Corona virus, Covid 19 could be. Strange but truth – the main virus was well protected by WHO not to have any traces of its ethnicity or the Nation of its origin, but its variants were named – British were arrogantly using Indian variant and SA variant and the like !
Slowly statistics have become mere numbers – people no longer fear them – long since the days of Ms Beula Rajesh coming on TV to announce the count of afflicted in TN .. .. .. India on Sunday reported another major surge in Covid-19 cases with 2,71,202 fresh infections being registered in the past 24 hours. With this, the active caseload currently stood at 15,50,377 that comprised 4.81 per cent of the total infections. There are currently 1,31,007 active COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu. The cumulative death toll of the state stood at 36,967. While the cumulative recoveries in the state stood at 27,47,974.
Today reports suggest that the roads of Chennai wore a deserted look as the city observed lockdown as part of complete lockdown on all Sundays in Tamil Nadu, amid rising COVID-19 cases. The night curfew will continue in the state is extended till January 31 and will remain effective from 10 pm to 5 am from Mondays to Saturdays. Longway since lockdowns were opposed as economic curbs killing people – now no one even voices anything !! – but should we feel happy that people are trying to follow the regulations or feel sad that this is becoming extended month by month ! .. ..
Since Omicron is illegitimate or 'deviant' from Covid-19 pandemic progression script, we must think of two pandemics going on side by side - Delta and close relatives, and Omicron and its variants in future, said a famous Virologist and it makes sense to protect ourselves by venturing out as little as possible and not mingling in crowded places. Besides the total curfew on Sundays, the Tamil Nadu government also extended the existing Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, including night curfew and imposed fresh restrictions around the Pongal festival till January 31.
There is one silver lining as today 16th Jan marks the anniversary of vaccination. The World’s biggest free vaccination drive has seen more than 156.76 crores of doses administered. We feel thankful and express gratitude to our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji, the Central Govt, the Medical services and everybody in providing vaccines – free and distributed in such a manner that we took the first two without any hassle, and wait for the booster dose now !
As India’s vaccination drive completed a year today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted “each and every individual” associated with it and said the programme added great strength to the fight against Covid-19. “Today we mark 1 year of vaccination drive. I salute each and every individual who is associated with the vaccination drive. Our vaccination programme has added great strength to the fight against Covid-19. It has led to saving lives and thus protecting livelihoods,” he tweeted. The drive began on January 16 last year with healthcare workers getting inoculated in the first phase. Vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2. Till date, 156.76 crore vaccines have been administered and more 92 per cent of the adult population have received at least one dose, according to health ministry officials. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also extended greetings to the health workers, scientists and citizens as the country completed one year of its COVID-19 vaccination drive.

is day 5 of Irapathu uthsavam at Thiruvallikkeni and on this day Sri
Parthasarathi Perumal would adorn Pandian Kondai and Sengol ; it would be
muthukondai for Swami Nammazhvar .. no veethi purappadu and no darshan
inside the temple – so only elite few could have darshan of this great
sevai.
Swami
Nammalwar’s deep rooted devotion gets revealed in his ornate description of the
great Kalayana gunas of Emperuman. In decad 5 – Thiruvaimozhi 8 – he
laments to have only Emperuman as the focus and nothing else. Here are a
couple of great expressions in describing the greatness of Lord :
உலப்பிலானே :
குணவிபூதிகளினுடைய கணனைக்கு (பரிமாணம் – dimension) முடிவில்லாமல்
இருக்குமவனே! என்றபடி. மூர்த்தி : என்று திவ்யமங்கள விக்ரஹத்துக்கும்
பெயர், ஐச்வர்யத்துக்கும் பெயர்; வடிவழகைக் காட்டி. எல்லாப் பிராணிகளையும் ஈடுபடுத்திக்கொள்ள
வல்லவனே! என்றும், ஸகல லோகங்களுக்கும் நிர்வாஹகனான ஸர்வேச்வரனே! என்றும் பொருள்படும்.
எம்பெருமானின் திருவடியை அடைந்தோர்க்கு எவ்வித இடர்பாடும் இல்லை;
எல்லாமே நலமே என அறுதியிட்டு உரைக்கின்றார் ஸ்வாமி நம்மாழ்வார்.
நம்மாழ்வார் கூறுகிறார் : "இனிமேல் நரகம் என்பதே இருக்காது. யார்
நரகத்துக்கு போவார்கள். எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாரணனே இந்த பூமியில் வந்து பிறந்து
நமக்கு அருள் செய்த பின், யார் நரகம் போகப் போகிறார்கள்? எமனுக்கு என்ன வேலை? கலி புருஷனும்
வேலை இல்லாமல் திண்டாடப் போகிறான்" என்கிறார்.
பொலிக பொலிக பொலிக போயிற்று
வல்லுயிர்ச் சாபம்
நலியும் நரகமும் நைந்த நமனுக்கு
இங்கு யாதொன்று மில்லை
கலியுங் கெடும் கண்டு கொண்மின்
கடல்வண்ணன் பூதங்கள் மண்மேல்
மலியப் புகுந்து இசை பாடி
ஆடி உழி தரக் கண்டோம்.
கடல் போன்ற நிறத்தையுடைய நாராயணனுடைய அடியார்கள் பூமியின்மேலே கூட்டம்
கூட்டமாகப் புகுந்து இசையோடு பாடி ஆடிச் சஞ்சரிக்கக் கண்டோம்; ஆதலால், உயிரைப் பற்றியுள்ள
வலிய பாபங்கள் அழிந்தன, எல்லாரையும் வருத்துகின்ற நரகலோகமும் கட்டு அழிந்துபோயிற்று,
யமனுக்கு இந்த உலகத்தில் ஒரு வேலையும் இல்லை. இவற்றிற்கெல்லாம் காரணமான கலிகால தோஷமும்
கெடும். நீங்களே பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுங்கோள்; பொலிக! பொலிக!! பொலிக!!!’ என்கிறார் நம்மாழ்வார்.
Ordinary
mortals like us, by following the guidelines of Azhwar and Acharyars, we too
can desire of the Lord and in the streets of Triplicane, Lord in all His
benevolence and glory came around to bless us all. Reminiscing the good
olden days and praying for a bright future, here are some photos of Irapathu
