Welcoming our beloved to our home is a great
tradition. Thiyagayya was no ordinary
mortal – he pleaded Sri Rama to come to his home !!
Saint Thiyagaraja (Thiyagayya) saw the reigns of four kings of
Maratha dynasty but served none of them. He was so fond of Sree Rama that
his keerthanas exude bakthi rasam of the highest order. At a time when
King’s servants came searching to pick Thiyagayya to sing in the Court, he
reportedly refused – his family which was in penury asked him to forego
principles and earn money for their livelihood – Thiyagayya asks his heart
which answered ‘nidhi sala sukhama’ -- !! தியாகய்யர் இராமனை நெக்குருகி பாடும் ஒரு கீர்த்தனை :

Thiyagaraja
was immersed in bakthi rasa and could virtually talk to Lord every day. He pleads Lord Raghuvira, O Charming Youth,
son of King Dasaratha, Lotus eyed, Protector of pious – to visit his house as
he cannot withstand the misery of being separated from Lord. He asks Lord Shri Rama – is it appropriate to forget even now about me
caught in Your hands?
