Thiruvallikkeni Thavanothsavam day 1 - 2022

Thiruvallikkeni is replete with Festivities.  It was Sri Parthasarathi Special brahmothsavam – followed by  7 days of happy  Theppothsavam, and a day later,  comes the Thavana Uthsavam;  It would amaze one to understand the significance of each Uthsavam and the care with which our elders have designed them.  There are palaces [bungalows] specially built for providing rest to Perumal on different occasions ~ at Thiruvallikkeni, there is Thavana Uthsava Bungalow situated in Thulasinga Perumal Koil Street, Komutti Bungalow in Peyalwar Koil Street and Vasantha Uthsava Bungalow in Venkatrangam Street ~ sad that the big spacious sprawling premises of Vasantha Uthsava Bungalow is no longer there……..

The month of Masi brings back sweet memories of school days,  Cricket at nearby bungalow maidan  - and my childhood experience is reminisced above.  Thavana Uthsava Bungalow derives its name from the Thavana Uthsavam that occurs for 5 days starting Masi Krithikai. This Bungalow as I could recall from my young days, had a big well with steps inside,  trees of rose Nerium Oleander [Arali] and a differently looking  structure having two ‘goris’ [minars] ~ one can reach the top of the minars through the steps provided one is not afraid of bats.  Enthusiastic residents would draw water from the well, sprinkle on the sands that surround the raised structure,  colourful kolams will be drawn adding to the religious atmosphere.  

During this Uthsavam, Perumal takes rest under the roof made of thavanam – (Tamil: தவனம்) [Artemisia pallens],  an aromatic herb, in genus of small herbs or shrubs, xerophytic in nature.  This herb pervades great aroma and provides coolness. These days a kooralam [roof] made of Dhavanam is set up over the resting place of the Lord.  

Today 10.3.2022, in the morning Sri Parthasarathi Perumal had purappadu to Thavana Uthsava bungalow – had thirumanjanam – evening purappadu inside the bungalow and then periya mada veethi purappadu.  It was Muthal Thiruvanthathi rendering in the veethi. 

 தெப்போத்சவம் திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் முடிந்து ஒரு நாள் பிறகு தவனோத்சவம்.  இன்று காலை ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி மிக அழகாக பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள் பாலித்து தவன உத்சவ பங்களாவுக்கு எழுந்தருளினார்.  

திருவோணத்தில் அவதரித்த பொய்கையாழ்வார் எளிமையான வார்த்தைகளில் நாம் எம்பெருமானை அடைய அளித்த அற்புத வரிகள் :

வையம் தகளியா வார்கடலே நெய்யாக,

வெய்ய கதிரோன் விளக்காக, - செய்ய

சுடராழியானடிக்கே சூட்டினேஞ்  சொன்மாலை,

இடராழி நீங்குகவே என்று.

இந்த அழகான பூமியே அகலாகவும், இப்புவியை  சுற்றியிருக்கிற கடலே நெய்யாகவும், உஷ்ணகிரணனான ஸூர்யன் விளக்காகவும் கொண்டு, செஞ்சுடர்ச் சக்கரைக்கையனான எம்பெருமானது திருவடிகளில் வணங்கி முதல் திருவந்தாதி எனும் நூறு பாடல்கள் கொண்ட  பூமாலையை சாற்றி,  'இடர் ஆழி நீங்குக' (மேம்போக்காக நம்மை பீடித்துள்ள கஷ்டங்கள்  எல்லாம் விலகுக !)  -  ஆழ்வார் தம் மனத்து : (பகவத் கைங்கரியத்திற்கு இடையூறாகவுள்ள) துன்பக்கடல் நீங்குகைக்காக.

இப்படி பொய்கை ஆழ்வார் விளக்கிய சூரிய கிரணங்கள்  சுடும்  காலை வெய்யிலில் ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி தவன  உத்சவ பங்களா எழுந்தருளினார். பங்களா என்றால் நீங்கள் நினைக்கும் ஒரு பணக்கார வீடல்ல.  இது துளசிங்க பெருமாள் தெருவில் - மேட்டின் மேல் பெரிய  மண்டபமும், நடுவே மேடையும், இரண்டு கோரி எனப்படும் (சென்னை உயர்நீதி மன்றத்தில் உள்ளது போன்ற அமைப்பும்)  அக்காலத்தில் இதனுள் நிறைய வௌவ்வால்  இருக்கும் / படபடவென பறக்கும்  எனவே மேலே தைரியமனாவர்கள் மட்டுமே பிரவேசிப்பார்கள்.  மேடை சுற்றி அரளி போன்ற செடிகளும், மணற்பரப்பும், ஒரு பக்க வீடுகளும் என ஒரு அமைப்பு.  இந்த மேடையில் தவணை கூராளத்தின் கீழ் எழுந்து அருளி, திருமஞ்சனம் கண்டருளி, இளைப்பாறி, மாலை பங்களா உள்ளேயே புறப்பாடு கண்டருளி, பின்னர் பெரிய மாடவீதி குளக்கரை எழுந்தருள்கிறார், நம் ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள்.
