காரணனை.. .. .. நாளும் அடைந்து ! ~ Aippasi Rohini 2025

November 7 is the 311th day of the year (312th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar; 54 days remain until the end of the year.  On this day in 1775, occurred -   Dunmore's Proclamation, a historical document signed  by John Murray, 4th Earl of Dunmore, Royal governor of the British colony of Virginia. The proclamation declared martial law in the colony, and promised freedom for "all indented servants, negroes, or others", who joined the British Army. Most relevant historians agree that the proclamation was chiefly designed for practical rather than moral reasons. Formally proclaimed on November 15, its publication prompted between 800 and 2,000 slaves (from both Patriot and Loyalist owners) to run away and enlist with Dunmore. It also raised a furore among Virginia's slave-owning elites (including those who had been sympathetic to Britain), to whom the possibility of a slave rebellion was a major fear.  The proclamation however  failed in meeting Dunmore's objectives; he was forced out of the colony in 1776, taking about 300 former slaves with him. Later British commanders over the course of the American Revolutionary War followed Dunmore's model in enticing slaves to defect—the 1779 Philipsburg Proclamation, which applied across all the colonies, was more successful. By the end of the war, at least 20,000 slaves had escaped from plantations into British service.

Today   is Rohini nakshathiram in the month of Aippasi, the star in which Lord Krishna was born. In earlier  centuries colonial invaders projected Him as a mythical figure cooked up by wonderful stories. For billions of devotees, Braj Bhoomi is the holiest as they worship  birth of Lord Krishna at Mathura and his growing in the adjoining Gokul, Vrindavan and Govardhana as also the  historicity of Krishna.

Braj Bhoomi is the sacred region around Mathura and Vrindavan, considered the land where Lord Krishna was born, spent his childhood, and performed his divine pastimes. This sacred area is a major site for Hindu spiritual tourism, featuring towns like Barsana, Gokul, and Goverdhan, and is deeply connected to the Radha-Krishna legend. The name "Braj" comes from the Sanskrit word "vraj," meaning to roam, referring to Krishna's time spent with his cows and friends in the lush pastures of the region.  The area of Braj starts from Kotban near Hodel which is around 95 km from Delhi and ends at Runakta which is known specially for its association with the great poet Surdas, an ardent Krishna devotee. Covering an area of almost 4,000 sq. km., Brajbhoomi is divided among two distinct units – the eastern part in the trans-Yamuna tract with places like Gokul, Mahavan, Baldeo, Mat and Bajna and the western part of the Yamuna covering the Mathura region that encompasses Vrindavan, Govardhan, Kusum Sarovar, Barsana and Nandgaon.

According to the  scriptures, Lord Krishna was born around midnight. That night was the eighth phase of the moon known as Ashtami Tithi. The moon was near Vrshabha, the bull, i.e the Taurus constellation that houses the star Rohini. Astrological studies well researched  with details of sky configurations for events that happened around Krishna’s lifetimes, namely the Mahabharata, leads us to the exact birth date for Krishna which is stated as  3112 BCE.

In this World, there exists sufferings and sorrow ~ are there people bereft of sorrow and are eternally blissful ? Who are they ?  – our Peyazhwar shows us the way in his Moonram thiruvanthathi.

Peyalwar’s advice to the Universe is simple – to those who offer worship everyday to the Lord who reclines in Sesha sayanam,  who churned the ocean, who is the cause of all occurrences and things  - there would seldom by any misery -  Who in this  big World, would suffer, if they are to  prostrate and worship our Lord Ranganatha, our Emperuman Sriman Narayana.  Today it was the blissful occasion of Rohini and there was grand purappadu.

On Rohini day every month, there will be purappadu of Sri Parthasarathi Perumal  at Thiruvallikkeni and here are some photos taken during this evening during today’s Rohini purappadu.
