மரங்களில் மிகவும் அகலமான மரம் ஆலமரம். அகல் என்னும் சொல் ஆல் என மருவி வழங்கப்படுகிறது!!  அகன்ற அதன் கிளைகளைத் தாங்குவதற்கு அதன் விழுதுகள் பயன்படுகின்றன. கிளைகளிலிருந்து இவை கீழ்நோக்கி இறங்குவதால் (வீழ்வதால்) இதனை வீழ் என்று சங்க இலக்கியங்கள் குறிப்பிடுகின்றன. 

Ficus benghalensis, commonly known as the banyan, banyan fig  is a tree native to the Indian Subcontinent. Specimens in India are among the largest trees in the world by canopy coverage.  Ficus benghalensis is the national tree of India. 

The tree is considered sacred in India, and found in temples and on river banks.  Due to the large size of the tree's canopy, it provides useful shade in hot climates. In Western World, the expression "fig leaf" is  used figuratively to convey the covering up of an act or an object that is embarrassing or distasteful with something of innocuous appearance, a metaphorical reference to Genesis in which Adam and Eve used fig leaves to cover their nudity after eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  That way, the expression fig leaf has a pejorative metaphorical sense meaning a flimsy or minimal cover for anything or behaviour that might be considered shameful, with the implication that the cover is only a token gesture and the truth is obvious to all who choose to see it.

தலை மேல் புனைந்தேன் சரணங்கள் ஆலின்

இலைமேல் துயின்றான் இமையோர் வணங்க

 

என்னே ஒரு திவ்ய சேவை.  எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் - சங்கு, சக்கரம், அபய ஹஸ்தம், கதாயுதம்,  பாண்டியன் கொண்டை, திருமார்பில் பக்ஷி பதக்கம், திருவாபரணங்கள், மல்லி, முல்லை, குருவிவேர், பற்பல மலர்களால் ஆன மணக்கும் பூமாலைகள்,  பட்டு பீதாம்பரம், செங்கோல் கிளி கொஞ்ச,  மிகமிக அழகாக சேவை சாதித்த அழகு கண்டோர் வேறு ஒன்றையும் நினைக்க மாட்டார்.  எம்பெருமான் சென்னிப்பூவான  திருவடிகளை, ஆழ்வார் சாதித்த படி  என் தலை மேல் அணிந்து கொண்டேன்; ஆலிலையில் கண் வளர்ந்தவனும், நித்யஸூரிகள் வணங்கும்படி திருமலையில் எழுந்தருளி நின்று, தக்க தருணம் பார்த்து, என் நெஞ்சின் உள்ளே புகுந்து இருப்பவனான எம்பெருமான்  நம் அனைவரையும் காத்து அருள்வான் என்பது திண்ணம்.
