கேடில் விழுப்புகழ்க் கேசவனை ~ Thiruvallikkeni Irapathu 3 2010 now !!

                                         Thiruvallikkeni - Iraapathu Uthsavam 3  -  2010

திருவல்லிக்கேணி இராப்பத்து  உத்சவம்  (3)

In March 2020,  when the first case was identified in Kanchipuram and later when our Prime Minister announced one day token lockdown, things were not viewed in proper perspective – concepts of remaining at home, social distancing were not understood.  Not after 5 months of lockdown too, the educated masses of Metropolis are still at large, walking on the roads without masks and found at many places ! Sad !!   Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported 5,795 fresh Covid-19 cases taking the overall state tally to 3,55,449. In Chennai, 1,186 cases were reported that pushed the city’s overall tally to 12,256.  – there were few days in between, when the tally of the city was less than 1000 and there were talks that City has flattened the curve – now for the past couple of days and more it is closer to 1200 !  .. .. what is not getting highlighted is the fact that on Wednesday, as many as 6,384 persons were discharged, taking the number of recovered patients to 2,96,171. There are currently 53,155 active cases in the state.

Meanwhile, the national capital recorded 1,398 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, taking the total count to 1,56,139. With nine more deaths, the toll also increased to 4,235. On Monday, the Delhi High Court expressed concern over the fact that Covid cases are still hovering around the 1,300 mark, “which shows that there must be a concentrated focus on ramping up lab testing in Delhi”.

US President Donald Trump said he called off last weekend’s trade talks with China and that Beijing’s handling of the coronavirus is “unthinkable”. “I cancelled talks with China,” Trump said Tuesday in Yuma, Arizona. “I don’t want to talk to China right now.”  Trump has been stepping up complaints about China, particularly over the spread of the coronavirus, which he regularly calls the “China virus”. “What China did to the world was unthinkable,” Trump said, but WHO earlier certified China as having taken good measures in preventing the spread and ensured in naming it as ‘Covid 19’ without any trace to its origin city or Country !!

Though the whole World is suffering, China tries to showcase as if things are normal over there.  It is reported that the  Chinese capital Beijing is taking another step back to normality, allowing residents to go mask-free outdoors. Under new municipal disease control and prevention guidelines released on Thursday, people do not need to wear a mask outside if they are only with “companions”.  China claims to have largely brought the pandemic  under control, fighting sporadic outbreaks with mass testing and contact tracing. A Chinese state-owned pharmaceutical giant with two experimental  Covid-19  vaccines in development has priced its doses much higher than its international competitors.  The Chairman of China National Pharmaceutical Group, or Sinopharm  was quoted by Shanghai-based Guangming Daily on Tuesday as saying that the price for a two-dose regimen of its inactivated vaccines would cost around 1,000 yuan (US$145) and would be available in December.

For us though things appear normal and people are out there on roads, Temples have remained closed and there have been no purappadu since 20.3.2020 – we reminisce the earlier good happenings and am posting some photos of yesteryears.

The festivity of Adhyayana Uthsavam is enthralling and today  WE reminisce day 3 of Irapathu Uthsavam of 2010.  During Irapathu, everyday   at around 0545 pm,  Sri Parthasarathi Perumal reaches the Paramapada vasal, where Nammalwar waits for the doors to open and have darshan of Lord coming through the entrance. Devotees throng to have darshan of this significant  event.

In the  mada veedhi, ‘Upadesa Rathinamalai’  of Acharyar Swami Manavala Maamunigal is recited by arulicheyal  goshti.  Upadesa Rathimalai is a legend, a lexicon, a masterpiece of Swami Manavala Maamunigal.   It focusses on the glory of our reverred Azhwargal, Poorvacharyaas and because of whom Sri Vaishnava sampradhayam has flourished over the years.  The literary masterly work Upadesa Rathinamalai, details the months, Thirunakshathiram, Sthalam  of birth [month, day and place of birth] of Alwars and extols their greatness.  Upadesa Rathinamalai is replete with reference to the commentaries of Poorvacharyars; it also extols the greatness  of Sri Pillai Logachariyar [Pillai Ulagariyar] and the sublime commentary of his Rahasya Grantham “Sri Vachana Bushanam” [seer vasana booshanam – in the words of Mamunigal]

In praising the Azhwar, Mamunigal says :

ஆழ்வார்கள் வாழி அருளிச்செயல் வாழி*
தாழ்வாதுமில் குரவர் தாம் வாழி – ஏழ்பாரும்*
உய்ய அவர்கள் உரைத்தவைகள் தாம் வாழி*
செய்யமறை தன்னுடனே சேர்ந்து*

Our peerless Acharyar says : May the Divine Azhwargal live long ! May those Acharyars who have no downside in any manner live long ! May their works ~ Divya Prabandhams; accurate commentaries all of which were made only for the welfare and well-being of the Seven Worlds live long alongside the greatest of Pramanams – the Vedas.

On day 3  evening  Sri Parthasarathy in his radiant splendour had periya maada veethi purappadu with Nammalwar.   Back in the temple, there was  the rendering of 3rdCentum  [moonram pathu]  of Thiruvaimozhi, which concludes with the hymn :

கேடில் விழுப்புகழ்க் கேசவனைக் குருகூர்ச்சடகோபன் சொன்ன,

பாடலோராயிரத்துள்ளிவை பத்தும் பயிற்றவல்லார்கட்குஅவன்

நாடும் நகரமும் நன்குடன் காண நலனிடையூர்தி பண்ணி,

வீடும் பெறுத்தித்தன் மூவுலகுக்கும்  தருமொருநாயகமே.

Those who recite and render these 10 songs among the thousand made by Kurugur Sadagopan [Swami Nammazhwar]  extolling the ever remaining Kesavan of undiminished fame,   will be blessed with all riches,  including the ultimate Salvation also.  The  extolled Thiruvaimozhi comprises 1102 verses, grouped in ten parts called  centums referred to as mudal patthu, irandam patthu & the like.  Each centum has ‘decads’ – pathikams known as mudal patthu mudal thiruvaimozhi,  irandam patthu – naankam thiruvaimozhi etc.

Here are some photos of Sri Parthasarathi Perumal & Swami Nammalwar on the occasion of Irapathu uthsavam day 3 on 19.12.2010 taken with Canon powershot A1100IS
