Sri Azhagiya Singar Pushpa Pallakku today ~ 15th July 2017

Shri Narendra Modiji  became  the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel and was welcomed with a large amount of pomp and show. The historic visit was marked by a warm welcome address by the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu wherein he referred to Modi as “mere dost” (my friend) on multiple occasions. On his first day of the visit, Modi visited the Danziger “Dan” flower farm along with his Israeli counterpart and was soon bestowed with the honour of a flower being named after him. The fast growing Israeli Crysanthumun was named as “Modi” in honour of his visit to the country.

Bees are lured by flowers.    Bumble bees create foraging routes by using their experience to select nectar-rich, high-rewarding flowers. A study by University of Toyama in Japan now suggests that bees actually forage more efficiently when flower sizes are large rather than small. This indicates that for these insect pollinators foraging quickly is more efficient than foraging accurately.

Back home, flowers are considered important in our worship.  We offer flowers to our Gods. Blooming flowers are one of the most beautiful things you can see in nature. After 10 days of  Brahmothsavam, it is rest called ‘Vidayarri’ for Sri Thelliya Singar - and after 3 days of rest, comes the florally bedecked ‘Pushpa Pallakku – the palanquin with flowers’.  The floral palanquin  looks beautiful and pervades goodness all around – treat to the eyes, ears and senses  of Bakthas.

Swami Nammalwar says …. ‘the most pleasant fragrance of jasmine –wafting breeze,  ears receiving the pleasing kurinji music; Sun setting with beautiful red colours in the horizon – all attracting -  but more attracting was the pleasing sight of the fragrant palanquin made of flowers – for they were set for the most beautiful Allikkeni Emperuman ‘Sri Parthasarathi’.

Today (15th July  2017)  in the evening it was the grand   Pushpa Pallakkuu for Sri Azhagiya Singar. Favourite memories are triggered by our sense of smell ~ flowers are admired for their beauty, exquisite shapes, spectrum of colours and more so for their fragrance. In our tradition, the decorative wreath of flowers woven together as garlands adorn God.  Flowers have their pride of place and are mentioned in our epics – in Divyaprabandham too.   The pallakku made of flowers  was fragrant pervading  all around – a great treat to the eyes, ears and senses  of Bakthas. At Triplicane [Thiruvalikkeni divyadesam] Sri Thelliya Singar had purappadu in Pushpa pallakku.    Here are some photos taken during the purappadu. **
