Life moves on – it is the month of August, yet we feel it is very hot in Chennai. Extreme heat is a period of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees for at least two to three days. In extreme heat your body works extra hard to maintain a normal temperature, which can lead to lot of health issues.  People living in Delhi, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh face the highest risk from heat,  according to a new study which has left out places like Cuddapah, Bellary, Ramaguntam, Hyderabad, Delhi and many more !!  Amidst such heat, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast that heavy rain streaks will continue in the ghat districts of Tamil Nadu and some northern part in view of active southwest monsoon coupled with an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.  

Aristarchus of Samos was an ancient Greek astronomer and mathematician who presented the first known heliocentric model that placed the Sun at the center of the universe, with the Earth revolving around the Sun once a year and rotating about its axis once a day. He also supported the theory of Anaxagoras according to which the Sun was just another star. He likely moved to Alexandria, and he was a student of Strato of Lampsacus, who later became the third head of the Peripatetic school in Greece. According to Ptolemy, he observed the summer solstice of 280 BC. Along with his contributions to the heliocentric model,   he created two separate sundials: one that is a flat disc; and one hemispherical. Aristarchus was influenced by the concept presented by Philolaus of Croton (c. 470 – 385 BC) of a fire at the center of the universe (i.e. by contemporary understanding, at the center of the Earth).

 

For Srivaishnavaites, the month of Aadi is of special significance – as Thiruvadipuram [Puram Nakshathiram in the month of Aadi] –  is the  most blessed day for all Srivaishnavaites –  marking  the birth of Kothai Piratti [Andal] – Thiruvadipuram was grandly celebrated on 28.7.2025.  Today 5.8.2025  it is Aadi Shukla paksha Ekadasi. 

திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்யதலத்திலே இன்று   - விஸ்வாவஸு வருடம்,   தக்ஷிணாயனம் ~ க்ரீஷ்ம  ருது . - கடக மாஸ  (ஆடி மாதம்) - சுக்ல பக்ஷ   ஏகாதசி  ~ ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் பெரிய மாட  வீதி புறப்பாடு.   நம் பார்த்தசாரதி திவ்யமங்கள ஸ்வரூபனாய் ஜாஜ்வல்யமாய் எழுந்தருளி பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள் புரிந்தார். வீதிதனில் மூன்றாம் திருவந்தாதி கோஷ்டி.   இன்று ஆளவந்தார் உத்சவத்தில் ஏழாம்  நாள் - திருவாய்மொழி ஏழாம்  பத்து  சேவிக்கப்பெற்று, பின்னர் கேட்டை திருமாலை கோஷ்டி - ஸ்ரீ தொண்டரடிப்பொடிகள் திருநக்ஷத்திரம். இதோ ஸ்ரீபேயாழ்வாரின் அற்புதவரிகள் :

 

கலந்து மணியிமைக்கும் கண்ணா * நின்மேனி

மலர்ந்து மரகதமே காட்டும்*  - நலந்திகழும்

கொந்தின்வாய் வண்டறையும் தண்டுழாய்க் கோமானை,

அந்திவான் காட்டும் அது.

 

எம்பெருமான் அழகுக்கு அழகு சேர்ப்பவன்.  ஆபரணங்களும் புஷ்பங்களும் வஸ்த்ரங்களும் அவனுக்கு சாற்றப்பெறுவதன் மூலம் அழகு பெறுகின்றன.  ஸ்ரீகௌஸ்துப மணி  கலந்து விளங்காநின்ற கண்ணபிரானே!; மரதக ரத்னமானது  ஒளிப்பரப்பையுடைத்தாய்க் கொண்டு  உனது திருமேனியை ஒத்திராநின்றது,  அழகாக விளங்குகின்ற கொத்துகளிலே வண்டுகள் ரீங்காரம் செய்யப்பெற்ற திருத்துழாய் மாலையணிந்த  ஸர்வேச்வரனாகிய உன்னை ஸந்தியாகாலத்து ஆகாசமானது ஒத்திராநின்றது.  அத்தகைய அருமைபெற்ற எம்பெருமான் நமக்கு தரிசனமளித்தது என்னே நம் பாக்கியம்.  [கச்சி ஸ்வாமிகள் உரை - திராவிட வேதா - நன்றி!]

 

The heat is attributed to climatic changes.  Climate change is the long-term shift in the Earth's average temperatures and weather conditions.  The world has been warming up quickly over the past 100 years or so. As a result, weather patterns are changing. Between 2015 and 2024, global temperatures were on average about 1.28C above those of the late 1800s, known as pre-industrial levels, according to the European Copernicus climate service.  Nicolaus Copernicus [1473 – 1543) was a Renaissance polymath who formulated a model of the universe that placed the Sun rather than Earth at its center. Copernicus likely developed his model independently of Aristarchus of Samos, an ancient Greek astronomer who had formulated such a model some eighteen centuries earlier.  The Copernicus Climate Change Service  (abbreviated as C3S) is one of the six thematic services provided by the European Union's Copernicus Programme. The Copernicus Programme is managed by the European Commission and the C3S is implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The objective of the Copernicus Climate Change Service is to build an EU knowledge base in support of mitigation and adaptation policies for Climate Change and Global Warming. 

Since the 1980s, each decade has been warmer than the previous one, the UK Met Office says. The year 2024 was the world's hottest on record, with climate change mainly responsible for the high temperatures. It was also the first calendar year to surpass 1.5C of warming compared to pre-industrial levels, according to Copernicus.
