Masi Magam at Bay of Bengal ~ Thandarai Sri Ranganatha Swamy

In the mornings, Marina beach offers an interesting sight.  Besides the beautiful Sun rise, there are people of various hues – brisk walkers, people chatting, eating, practising Yoga, laughter and more ~ today, opposite to Marina ground – there was a different crowd - worshippers – those seeking divine blessings accompanying the Lord and had come for holy bath in the sea on the auspicious day of ‘masi magam’ ; the sea which was blessed with the Divine intervention was perhaps showing its happiness on seeing the holy crowd with huge tidal waves.

On Masi Magam day, at various places, Gods visit waterbodies – at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam it is destined to be tomorrow [Masi Pournami] – sadly, due to Balalayam, there will be no purappadu of Sri Parthasarathi that occurs on Garuda vahanam.   Bathing in sea on these days is considered sacred ~ necessarily after having a purificatory bath at home and then at Sea..

There was the purappadu of Sri Ranganatha Swamy from Thandurai in a palanquin to Vanga Kadal [Bay of Bengal] for Masi Maga theerthavari.  Thandurai is located nearer Pattabiram, a suburb in administrative limits of Avadi.   Hundreds of bakthas accompanied the Swami. Here are some photos of the purappadu taken this morning.
