Thiruvallikkeni Sri Varadha Rajar Thavanothsavam Purappadu 2015

One will have to see to believe the enthusiasm of people associating themselves with each Uthsavams. Purappadu [procession] is not merely an activity – it is Perumal coming on the Streets to bless the bakthas.   In a material world, where people keep changing jobs and run seeking greener pastures, there are still some who do kainkaryams at Divyadesams, feeling themselves closer to God and being with the God at all times possible. They think of God not for seeking any favours or boons, but they strive to make the God [the Archai Idol] the centric point offering the God all earthly pleasures. One can see such devoted people in Divyasthalams like Thirukachi, Thiruvarangam, Vanamamalai, Thirukkurungudi and many other places, and of course, Thiruvallikkeni is unique.  Though in the heart of the city, there are many who are with the Lord at all times.

After the Theppothsavam, starts Thavana Uthsavam … when Sri Parthasarathi has purappadu to ‘Thavana Uthsava Bungalow’ deriving  its name from the Thavana Uthsavam that occurs for 5 days starting Masi Krithikai.  With the onset of summer, Perumal takes rest under the roof made of dhavanam (Tamil: தவனம்) [Artemisia pallens] – an aromatic herb.

During this 5 day Uthsavam, daily morning Sri Parthasarathi visits the bungalow, has Thirumanjanam, has purappadu inside the bungalow, then after asthanam, has periya maada veethipurappadu.

There will be Dhavana Uthsavam for Sri Parthasarathi, Sri Azhagiya Singar, Sri Ranganathar and Sri Varadha Rajar.  On 8th  Mar 2015, it was Masi Hastham ~ the day of Thavana Uthsavam for Sri Varadha Rajar.  This Bungalow as I could recall from my younger days, had a big well with steps inside,  trees of rose Nerium Oleander [Arali] and a differently looking structure having two ‘goris’ [minars].  The Dhavana Uthsava bungalow has undergone some structural changes over the years……….

This morning Sri Varadha Raja Perumal had purappadu to Thavana Uthsava Bungalow  and thirumanjanam.  In the evening there was purappadu inside the bungalow and later periya mada veethi purappadu.  and here are some photos taken by me.
