Mathura Kavigal Sarrumurai and Simha vahanam at Thiruvallikkeni

In the evening of day 2 [25th April 2013] of the Brahmothsavam at Thiruvallikkeni, it was the majestic Simha [lion] as vahanam.  The most beautiful, powerful, benevolent Sri Parthasarathi Perumal had purappadu atop ‘simham’ and gave darshan to devotees.

Today, is ‘chithiraiyil chithirai’ [Chitra Nakshathiram in the month of Chithirai] and hence the birthday of Sri Madhurakavi Azhwar.  He was born in Thirukkolur as incarnation of Sri Garuda. He sang only one divyaprabandham ~ ‘Kanninun Chiruthambu’ consisting of only 11 hymns;  his life was intertwined with that of Sri NammAzhwar.

His pasurams were on ‘Kurugaip Piran’ – Swami Nammalwar himself.  He as a disciple was attracted to the holy feet of Swami Nammazhwar  and claimed that he knew none and nothing else than his Acharyar……. ~an exceptional piece of guru bakthi.

On his sarrumurai day, Mathurakavi azhwar had purappadu with Sri Parthasarathi and some photos taken during the purappadu are posted here.

With regards – S. Sampathkumar.
