Sri Rama Navami - Hanumantha vahanam at Thiruvallikkeni

Today (8th April 2014)  is the holy day of Sree Rama Navami – the day on which Lord Sri Ramachandramurthy, the supreme avatar was born in the blessed land of Ayodhya.  Lord Rama descended on earth for the purpose of upholding righteousness and rewarding virtue.

The Greatest of Ithihasa purana ‘Sri Ramayanam’  is the undiluted history of the Greatest Person who descended on this Universe, on the banks of river Sarayu, in a prosperous country called ‘Koshala’.  In the immortal Ramayana, there are learning of life …..

~ and there is also a great character – a warrior, mightily powerful, whose body was as hard as a diamond, whose speed equalled those of fastest flying eagles, who possessed great wisdom, who could organize a group of roaming ones, who can jump hundreds of miles, yet who remained at the feet of his Master, totally committed thinking of their welfare alone – unassuming, yet capable of telling the right things at the right moment – that is Pavana Puthra Hanuman – Aanjaneya, who is called ‘siriya thiruvadi’ – bearer of Lord Rama – who carried Rama on his shoulders during the war in which the demon was killed.

The mighty Hanuman excelled in his role as emissary when he bowed before Rama and Lakshmana, clearly explaining at Rishyamukha parvatha bridging relations, bonding a great friendship of mutual benefit for the Vanara King Sugriva with the Princess of Ayodhya who had come to the forest on the words of His father.   The gracious speech and dignified conduct of Hanuman was instrumental in forging the relationship of Sugriva, eventual slaying of Vali and his begetting the Kingdom.  Hanuman was destined to bigger deeds – of organizing an army comprising of monkeys in search of Sita, his great leap into the sea, crossing it and reaching the fortified Lanka; slaying wicked demon and meeting Sita at Ashoka vanam; sitting majestically before the King Ravana and burning the whole of Lanka ……… more than all these, the one role he relished most was carrying the ‘Ithihasa Purush’ on his shoulders and thus earning the title ‘Siriya Thiruvadi’ – the carrier of Lord Sri Rama

At Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam (as also in many other divine places) on Sri Rama Navami day – there was the grand purappadu of Sri Rama in Hanumantha vahanam.  Here are some photos of the great occasion

Sree Rama Navami .... the birthday of Lord Sri Rama

The Greatest of Ithihasa purana ‘Sri Ramayanam’  is the undiluted history of the Greatest Person who descended on this Universe, on the banks of river Sarayu, in a prosperous country called ‘Koshala’ – the city of Ayodhya founded by the renowned Manu, ruled the mighty monarchs including Sagara and his sixty thousand sons, Bhagiratha and Dasaratha  in the dynasty of Ikshwaku.

His life is the subject of ‘The Ramayana’,  the greatest Ithihasa detailing the life and journey of the immortal Perfect man’s adherence to dharma despite harsh tests of life and time. Lord Rama is the epitome of all virtues and the perfect human being who abandoned the throne and served exile in the forest for the sake of honour of his beloved father.

Sri Ramar Pattabisheka Thirukolam 2014

The greatest of the Ithihasa puranam has had its influence across centuries, countries and cultures -  Valmiki’s description of the  tour de force of Maryadha Purush Sri Ramapiran  has illuminated the lives of millions imparting lessons in various spheres - statecraft, conduct, family and societal values. It has set rules for war and peace, for daily life and during times of crisis propagating the importance of justice, virtue, love and sacrifice and indicting greed, lust, the evils of power and covetousness

….. and it culminates with ‘Sri Rama Pattabisheka Mahothsavam’ - the coronation ceremony of Lord Srirama,  performed on the majestic scale -   Rama, the foremost among men, accompanied by sounds of conches buzzing in the ears and sounds of kettle-drums, proceeded to the city of Ayodhya, having a series of palaces.   Vasishta, Vamadeva, Kashyapa, Katyayana, Suyajna, Gautama and Vijaya consecrated Rama the Lion among men, with clear and fragrant water, as the eight Vasus (Ashta vasukkal). At the request of Bharata to take back the kingdom of Ayodhya, Rama accepts the offer and sits on a seat. Bharata and Rama take their bath and get adorned for the occasion. Rama, mounting on an excellent chariot, sallies forth on a procession in the city accompanied by Bharata, Shatrughna, Lakshmana and Vibhishana. Nine thousand elephants follow the procession, with Sugreeva and other monkeys mounted on them. The citizens of Ayodhya host flags on every house. Rama returns to his paternal palace in Ayodhya.

Pleasant things give happiness to everyone and there cannot be more pleasant sight than that of Sri Rama Pattabishekam ~ the eternal state of bliss- the most complete picture of happiness to everyone in the Kingdom.   Kosala Kingdom was replete with happiness.  The only trouble was that no body could donate ~ for the simple reason that there were none to seek and beget things from others. People lived in such a perfect harmony that there was no fight and there was no opportunity to display valour ~ the subjects were well educated and lived life full of honour… its capital which had no wars was known as ‘Ayodhya’.

In that beautiful ceremony, the most benevolent Sri Rama adorned the Crown which was worn earlier by Manu, the emperor- a crown studded with precious jewels, fashioned by Brahma, the great souled VAsishta and other knowledgeable priests officiating at the Coronation.

 [from Kamba Ramayanam]

Mere chanting of the name ‘Sree Rama’ would provide everything to us ~ he is the greatest benefactor ~ the Maryadha Purush ~ the greatest epitome of all virtues Lord Rama.  At Thiruvallikkeni, Thirumangaimannan describes Rama as one with his family of Barathan, Satrugnan, Ilakkuvan and Mythili – the one who destroyed Ravana [Ravananthakan] – the most cheerful and calm Rama blessing all his devotees.
Today 3rd April 2014,   it was Thavanothsavam and Sri Ramar in Pattabisheka Thirukoalam was a great sight to behold.  Here are some photos of the day…

Sri Ramar Garuda SEvai at Thiruvallikkeni Divyadesam

Very many centuries ago, descended on this earth, the Greatest Maryada Purush, the epitome of all virtues, who showed to all human beings on how to lead the life…. “Lord Sri Rama”.  His birth celebrations ~ Sri Rama Navami Uthsavam is on…. Today, 2nd April 2014 -  is the third day of the Uthsavam and at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam Sri Ramar had purappadu on Garuda vahanam.

Sri Ramanavami is on Panguni 25; Tuesday 8th of April 2014. .

Lord Rama descended on earth for the purpose of upholding righteousness and rewarding virtue. Ramayana is the greatest Ithihasa detailing the life and journey of the immortal Perfect man’s adherence to dharma despite harsh tests of life and time. Lord Rama is the epitome of all virtues and the perfect human being who abandoned the throne and served exile in the forest for the sake of honour of his beloved father.  Lord Rama  came in the dynasty of Iskshvahu.   Sri Rama Navami is a great day for all devotees as Lord Rama was born on the Navami thithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra masa (i.e., 9th day of the increasing phase of the moon in the lunar month of Chaitra).

In the land of Rama which obviously was the most exceptional paradise – Eldorado – Kambar describes it to be the place – where there was no philanthropy (as there was none seeking and receiving alms); not a place of valour (as there could be no invaders nor any war)…………yet its Lord’s life is not the story of happy living all the time….. in the prime of His youth, for 13 years, Lord Sri Rama accompanied by Sita and brother Lakshmana lived a life of pastoral peace in the forests.  Wherever  Rama decided to stay for some considerable time, Lakshmana would make a clearing in the forest, erect a thatched hermitage on a lonely eminence, plant flowers and creepers around the cottage. They lived hermit’s life collecting fruits and edible roots for food and not keeping anything for the future.  They did not wear any ornaments but were wearing the ones made of tree barks having forsaken enjoyment, casting away attachment from the material World – all following the order of His beloved father.  In those years,  it was deep silence of the forest, the vast panorama of nature around them, the green hillock, the grassy fields, the giant trees, gentle deer and other animals – all at a time when thousands were too willing to be by His side, serving all the time.

After fulfilling the vow, after killing the demon and returning to rule the life was great for the subjects. In the blessed city of Ayodhya created by Brahma himself,, even the meanest small insects without exception lived happily ~ the ruler, the blemishless Sri Rama gave exalted status to all  ~ Swami Nammalwar asks will anyone learn of  anything else other than the exalted story of Sri Ramapiran !!!

         நற்பால் அயோத்தியில் வாழும் சராசரம் முற்றவும்*
         நற்பாலுக்கு உய்த்தனன் நான்முகனார்பெற்ற நாட்டுளே.*

In that glorious Ramavathara, Lord Hanuman was closest to Him and carried HIM everywhere….the Greatest Carrier ordained to serve Lord Maha Vishnu - ‘Periya Thiruvadi [Garudan] gets a chance to carry Lord Rama on his shoulders  during this Sri Ramanavami Uthsavam and here are some photos of the fortune of Garuda – Sri Ramar Garuda Sevai at Thiruvallikkeni.

Periya Thiruvadi and Siriya Thiruvadi have had the glory and fortune of carrying the Greatest Lord on their shoulders – but perhaps – while carrying they could not have seen without taking eyes the golden visor shining on the forehead of their Master, the garland made of sweet fragrant flowers adorning their Master; the radiance illuminating from His face and the eyes that shower munificence ~ and that greatest Lotus feet, falling at which only will provide salvation to us all…………. We, the bakthas are more blessed as we are able to enjoy and prostrate at the feet of Lord Rama, more than the Thiruvadis could do.
