Welcoming the Peetathipathi of Sri Kaniyoor Mutt to Triplicane

What an evening it was - at Triplicane Vyasaraya Mutt on Sunday, 27^th July 2025. 

The basic tenets of Sanatana Dharma flow from Smriti, Ithihasa puranangal ie., Vedas and Ithihasa puranangal. 

வேர்களை மேலே கொண்டு, அதன் கிளைகளைக் கீழே கொண்ட நித்தியமான அஸ்வத்தம் {அரச மரம்} என்று ஆத்ம அறிவைச் சொல்கிறார்கள்.   செருக்கு மற்றும் மயக்கத்தில் இருந்து விடுபட்டோர், தீய பற்றுகளை அடக்கியோர், தனிப்பட்ட தனக்கும், பரமாத்மாவுக்கும் உள்ள உறவை தியானிப்பதில் உறுதியாக இருப்போர், ஆசை விலகியோர், இன்பம் மற்றும் துன்பம் (போன்ற) முரண்பட்ட இரட்டைகளில் இருந்து விடுபட்டு, மயக்கமில்லாதிருப்போரே அந்த நிலைத்த நிலையை {பரமபதத்தை} அடைகின்றனர்.  

பாரத புண்ணிய பூமியின் கலாச்சார விழுதுகள் - ஸ்ரீ இராமாயணமும், ஸ்ரீமத் மகாபாரதமும்.   பாரதம் உயர்ந்த உருவில் அருளியவர் - வேத வியாசர். இயற்பெயர் கிருஷ்ண த்வைபாயனர். வேதங்களை பிரித்து வியாசம் பண்ணியதால் வியாசர் என்றழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.  சுக பிரம்ம ரிஷியிடம் 'எது ஒருவனுக்கு  உயர்ந்த லக்ஷியம்? மரணமடையுமுன்  நான்  என்ன  செய்யவேண்டும்? மனிதனானவன் எதை கேட்கவேண்டும், செய்யவேண்டும், ஞாபகம் கொள்ளவேண்டும்? என்று கேட்கிறான். இந்த கேள்வியில் ஆரம்பித்து சுக பிரம்ம ரிஷி மற்றும் பரிக்ஷித் இவர்களுக்குள் நடந்த சம்பாதனை ஏழு நாட்களாக நடந்தது. அதுவே பாகவதம்.  

இராமாயண காவிய புருஷன் ஸ்ரீராமன் வாழ்வில் உன்னதத்தை காண்பித்தவன். பகவான் ஸ்ரீகிருஷ்ணன் மிக கடின சூழ்நிலையில் வாழ்வியல் போதனைகளை காட்டியவர்.      எம்பெருமான் க்ருஷ்ணாவதாரத்தில் தன்னுடைய எளிமையையும் மேன்மையையும் சேர்த்துக் காண்பித்தான்.  அவ்வப்போது தன் அவதார மஹிமையையும் உணர்த்தினான் கண்ணன். பெரியாழ்வார் தம் திருமொழியில் கண்ணன் பிறப்பு முதல் அவன் வளர்ந்த பருவங்களை கொண்டாடுகிறார்.  

வாயுள் வையகம் கண்ட மட நல்லார்*

ஆயர் புத்திரனல்லன் அருந்தெய்வம்*

பாயசீருடைப் பண்புடைப் பாலகன்*

மாயனென்று மகிழ்ந்தனர் மாதரே.  

 Think of  Lord Krishna, the supreme God   - one is instantly reminded of Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman who protects us at  Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam; there are so many  great Krishna temples like Guruvayur, Dwaraka, divyadesams -  Kabisthalam, Thirukkannamangai, Thirukkannapuram,  His Mathura, the places He grew up – Gokulam, Govardhanagiri, Vrindavan .. .. and more associated with Krishna – and .. .. on Arabic sea front -  Udupi !   

Of His many temples, one at Udupi is unique. Udupi Sri Krishna Matha  is a famous one –Surrounding the Sri Krishna Matha are several temples.  Udupi is one among the 7 Parashurama Kshetras i.e. the places created by Sage Parashurama. Parasurama  created his land out of sea and that includes coastal areas including Udupi.  In Sanskrit,Udupa means moon.  Chandra  prayed Lord Shiva here to get rid of a curse. 

              According to legend, there was an unusually disturbing  storm in the sea at Malpe. Shri Madhvacharya was on the shore at the time and saw a ship which was in trouble. He helped the ship reach the shore to safety. The sailors were very grateful to him and gave him deities of Lord Krishna and Lord Balarama. Jagadguru Sri Madhwacharya installed the deity of Lord Balarama near Malpe. This temple is known as Vadapandeshwara. He brought the deity of Lord Krishna and  installed at Udupi, which is regarded as the present day Krishna Mutt.  The Tulu Ashta Mathas of Udupi are a group of eight mathas or Hindu monasteries established by Madhvacharya. For each of the eight mathas, Madhvacharya also appointed one of his direct disciples to be the first Swami, head of the matha.   

Sri Madhwacharya initiated Sri Rama Theertha to sanyasa to worship Sri Krishna & gave Yoga Narasimha idol with 4 hands seated on swastik symbol. The idol has shankha and chakra in two hands and the remaining two hands are placed on laps.  This is very much the Yoga Narasimha present at Thiruvallikkeni too.   Sri Rama Theertha continued his lineage & it is known as Kaniyoor mutt. Sri Rama Theertha is the first pontiff / moola purusha of this mutt. 

Kaniyooru, also spelled Kaniyuru, is a village in Kadaba taluk in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.    Shri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji is 30^th and present pontiff.   He was born as the second son of the blessed couple Vidwan Raghupathi Acharya and Shrimati Malathi Acharya on October 30th 1977 at Udupi. He was named as Krishnaraja Acharya by his parents. Krishnaraja underwent early schooling at Shri Madhwa Siddantha Prabhodini Samskritha Mahapaatashaala at Udupi. 

Shri Vidyavarinidhi Theertha Swamiji, then pontiff of Kaniyooru Matha identified Krishnaraja Acharya as his successor and ordained him for Sanyasa on May 8th 1992 at Pajaka Kshetra, the holy place where Shri Madhwacharya was born and named as Shri Vidyavallabha Theertha. Soon after the Sanyaasa, Shri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji was sent to Shri Satyapramoda Theertha Swamiji of Uttaradi Mutt under whose able mentorship, Shri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji enter the ocean of Dwaitha Philosophy  - was ordained to  Shri Krishna Matha and completed the paryaya in a grand manner at the age of just 21 years. During the paryaya tenure, on the very auspicious day of Vijayadashami in the year 1999, Swamiji observed his Sudhamangala in front of the Vrundavana of His Paramaguru, Shri Vidyasamudra Theertha located at Vrundavana Complex of Krishna Matha. As per the desire of his predecessor, Shri Vidyavarinidhi Theertha Swamiji, Shri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji developed Pajaka Kshetra, the holy birth place of Acharya Madhwa, in an incredible way with support of devotees. Swamiji has also renovated various braches of Kaniyooru matha, established new branches at Bangalore and Shimoga to cater the spiritual needs of the people.  

வாழ்வில் மூப்பு வரும் சமயம் - கிழத்தனத்தில் நாலடி நடந்தாலும் பலஹீனத் தால் முதுகு நோகும்; ஒருகையாலே முதுகைப்பிடித்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டிய தாகும் ; முன் பக்கமாக வளைந்து விழாமைக்காக ஒரு தடியை ஊன்றிக்கொள்ள வேண்டியதாகும்; அத்தகைய நிலைமை வரு முன்னரே பதரிகாச்ரமம் சென்று ஸ்ரீபத்ரிநாதனை வணங்குமாறு திருமங்கை மன்னன் அறுதியிட்டு உரைத்துள்ளார்.  

முதுகு பற்றிக் கைத்தலத்தால் முன் ஒரு கோல் ஊன்றி

விதிர் விதிர்த்து கண் சுழன்று மேல் கிளைகொண்டு இருமி

இது என் அப்பர் மூத்த ஆறு என்று இளையவர் ஏசாமுன்

மது உண் வண்டு பண்கள் பாடும் வதரி வணங்குதுமே

 

Shri Swamiji visits most of the pilgrimage places across the country with devotees and at this young age itself  Shri Swamiji has completed Badari yatra more than 6 times, abiding by the advice of Kaliyan. 

Shri Swamiji’s second paryaya at Udupi Sree Krishna Mutt was in 2014.  With keenness and enthusiasm in propagating Madhwa philosophy and taking it to masses,  Swamiji has taken up many projects during paryaya tenure including  daily discourse, teaching of Nyaya sudha, arogya nidhi, akshaya patram .. ..   .    Shri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji, the present Pontiff of Kaniyoor Mutt is observing Charturmasya vratam at Chennai now.

Our Culture places great emphasis on following the steps of Rishis, Acaryas and Seers and it was a great occasion that the Pontiff of Kaniyoor mutt had gracefully accepted the invitation of TAMBRAS. 

Tamilnadu Brahmins’ Association [TAMBRAS – Regd.] – Triplicane Unit- distributed educational aid to deserving students of the community on 27.7.2025 at Triplicane Vyasaraja Mutt.  His Excellency Sri Sri Vidhya Vallabha Theertha Swamiji was the Chief Guest who graced the function – gave a wonderful anugraha bashan – blessing the children and advising them on the need of educating and living abiding dharma, helping the community and doing kainkaryam to Lord.  He distributed to financial aid and blessed all present.  

Triplicane Unit President RV Narasimhan and other office-bearers had made wonderful arrangements. Representatives of the State, District and Mylapore unit were also present.  Some donors and most members of the association were present.   Yours Truly welcomed the Seer and spoke providing some details of the association and providing details to the audience about Swamiji and Kaniyoor Mutt.  Here are some photos of the grand occasion

For Srivaishnavaites, the month of  Aadi has  special significance for on this month was born the female saintess Azhwar Andal.   Godadevi  was born at Srivilliputhur  in the Tamil month Adi, with the birth-star Pooram, which is celebrated as ‘Thiruvadippuram’.  A great day today  (28^th July 2025) ~ the concluding day of Andal Uthsavam – Thiruvadipuram.  In the evening at 7 pm @ Thiruvallikkeni divaydesam, it was grand purappadu of Sri Andal with Sri Parthasarathi in eka asanam ~ same kedayam.

இன்று 'திருவாடிப்பூரம்,' மிகச் சிறந்த நன்னாள் !  ஸ்ரீ ஆண்டாள் அவதரித்த தினம்.  ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூரில் பெரியாழ்வார்  பெண்பிள்ளையாய்,நந்தவனத்தில், துளசி மலரில் பூமிப்பிராட்டி அம்சமாய் தோன்றிய கோதைப் பிராட்டியின் பக்தி அளவிட முடியாதது.   

மல்லி நாட்டை ஆளும், மட மயில் போன்ற மென்மைத் தன்மை உடைய இவள்,   ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூர் வேதியர் பெரியாழ்வாரின் பெண்ணாய் திருவிளக்குப் போல் விளங்கினாள்.  ஆண்டாள் அவதரித்த ஊர் ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூர்.    'மல்லி நாடு' எனப்படுவது அக்காலத்தில் ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூரை உள்ளடக்கிய ஒரு பெரிய ஊராக திகழ்ந்து, காலப்போக்கில் மாறி இருக்கலாம்.  வட பத்ரசயனர் கோவில் கல்வெட்டில் ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூரின்  பெயர் 'மல்லிப்புத்தூர்' என்று குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.     'மல்லி நாடாண்ட மடமயில்' 'மருவாரும் திருமல்லி வளநாடு' எனும் சொற்றொடர்கள் மல்லி என்ற பிரதேசத்தினை விளக்குகின்றன.

கோதைப்பிராட்டி ஆண்டாள் நாச்சியார் எம்பெருமான் மீது மையல் கொண்டு, அவனையே வரித்து காத்திருந்தாள்.    அவரது நாச்சியார் திருமொழியில்  எம்பெருமானோடு சேர்வதற்க்காகவே தன்னுடைய மூச்சினை தாங்கி இருப்பேன் ~ ஆவி காத்திருப்பேனே என்கிறார்.    அரங்கனுக்குத் தொடுத்த மாலைகளை, தான் சூடி, அகமகிழ்ந்து,  புன்னகை தவழ, அங்குள்ள கிணற்றில்  அழகுப் பார்த்தவள். பின்னர்   எம்பெருமானுக்கு பல பாமாலைகளை உள்ளன்போடு, அருளியவள் சூடிக் கொடுத்த சுடர்கொடி  புகழப்பெறும் ஆண்டாள் நாச்சியார்.

நம் பொய்யிலா மணவாளமாமுனிவன்,  தமது  'உபதேசரத்தின மாலையில்' திருவாடிப்பூர திருநக்ஷத்திரத்தில் பூமி பிராட்டி ஸ்ரீவைகுண்டத்தில் உள்ள உயர்ந்த அனுபவத்தை விட்டுவிட்டு பெரியாழ்வாருக்கு திருமகளாக இந்த உலகத்தில் நாம் உஜ்ஜீவிப்பதற்கு அவதரித்தருளினதை,  அழகிய ஆடி மாதத்தின் பூர நக்ஷத்திரத்தின் வைபவம் வேறொரு தினத்துக்கு  கிடையவே கிடையாது  என பாடி மகிழ்கிறார். 

ஆண்டாள் பாடின எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன் எத்தகையவன் ? ~ பொங்கும் அலைகள் சூழ்ந்த நிலமும் , விண் உலகமும் அங்கு  ஒரு குறைவுமின்றி தளர்வின்றி ஆள்கின்ற எம்பெருமான் -  செங்கோலை உடைய திருவரங்கச் செல்வனார்  - அவனை நினைத்துறுகிய ஆண்டாள் தம் பக்தி நம்மை மேலும் பக்தி நிலையை அடைய இட்டுச்செல்கிறது.  

Sri Andal in her Nachiyar Thirumozhi   describes the Lord as having the white conch, wearing beautiful yellow silken robes, having tresses on shoulders hovering like bees over His lotus face, the Lord of immense compassion been worshipped at Vrindavan [Brindavan nearer Mathura, where Krishna grew up ]   

வெளிய சங்கொன்றுடையானைப் பீதகவாடையுடையானை*

அளிநன்குடைய திருமாலை ஆழியானைக் கண்டீரே? *

களிவண்டெங்கும் கலந்தாற்போல் கமழ்பூங்குழல்கள் தடந்தோள்மேல்*

மிளிர நின்று விளையாட விருந்தாவனத்தே கண்டோமே !
