Sri Andal Neeratta Uthsavam 2015 at Thiruvallikkeni

For Srivaishnavaites, margazhi has added significance – and during themonth the Thiruppavai of Andal is recited in the morning.  Andal composed two works  unique in their literary, philosophical, religious, and artistic content.  One is  Tiruppavai, a composition of thirty verses in which Andal imagines herself to be a cowherd girl during the incarnation of Lord Krishna.  The second is the Nachiyar Tirumozhi, comprising of 143 verses.

Thiruppavai  contains ocean of values including significance of  Naama sankeerthanam to Sriman Narayanar.   The Saint Poetess observed Paavai Nonbu (vratham) to attain Lord Krishna.  The month chosen for the vratham was Margazhi also known as Dhanur Masam.   Today, 10th Jan 2015 is day 5 of Neeratta Uthsavam of Andal.  This is a nine day festival and daily morning there will be veethi purappadu  signifying her preparation for the neerattam.  After the purappadu, Andal will have ‘Thirumanjanam’ at the Neeratta mandapam which is just opposite to the Thiruther.  Here are some photos taken this morning.

Adiyen Srinivasa dhasan.
