Thiruvallikkeni Amavasai purappadu : July 2016. new Panchaparva kedayam

Today 4th July 2016 is unique – combining Amavasai with Udayavar Thirunakshathiram ‘Thiruvathirai.  I had posted yesterday about the submission of new ‘Pancha parva kedayam’  (Tholukku Iniyaan – the one that is happy bearing to the shoulders of those doing kainkaryam to Emperuman). It was on display at Athangi Swami thirumaligai and after samarpana, there was ‘karikola purappadu’ too.

Besides Brahmothsavam and other annual  Uthsavams, there are many festivities in Thiruvallikkeni and on ‘Pancha parvam’ ~ Tamil Month starting, Pournami, Amavasyai, Ekadasi (2) days, there would be purappadu of Sri Parthasarathi.  On these days, Perumal will have purappadu in Kedayam.  The newly made teakwood gold-plated Tholukku Iniyaan had the fortune of having our Emperuman Lord Sri Parthasarathi for the first time ~ hundreds of thousands of days to follow.

It was indeed a great fortune for all devotees to have darshan of our Lord Sri Parthasarathi, in the newly made kedayam.  The last photo is one on the existing kedayam, taken sometime earlier.

new Panchaparva kedayam for Sri Parthasarathi

There is never a dull moment in Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam ~ the most happening place.  Today  is ‘mirugaseersham’ and no purappadu.. .. .. there was Vama Bojana Uthsavam of Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal at Sri Vanamamalai Mutt.

Today, a new golden Kedayam for adorning Sri Parthasarathi was submitted by some devotees, effort and conceptualisation of Sri Kavalkazhani Rajappa swami.  It was on display at Sri Atthanki Thirumaligai this morning ~ a photo of Perumal taken in the Kedayam is also posted here.

Thirumayilai Sri Adhi Kesavar Vana Bhojanam at Thiruvallikkeni 2016

There is never a dull moment in Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam ~ after the Aani brahmothsavam of Sri Azhagiya Singar, comes the Kodai Uthsavam in a couple of days and on 10th Balalayam would commence for Sri Thelliya Singar, Sri Varadharajar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar and Kulathangarai Aanjaneyar. Reportedly the renovation work is planned to be very short and there would be samprokshanam in Aug 2016 itself.

Today is ‘mirugaseersham’ and no purappadu.. .. .. yet, Allikkeni is active.  Kaliyan singing about the divyadesam calls it ‘maada maa Mayilai Thiruvallikkeni’ [singing Mylapore and Triplicane together as the place with palatial buildings !]

Mylapore is more associated with Kapaliswarar temple that has a great history – and one that was relocated from its earlier position nearer the sea to its present place.   Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal Devasthanam better known as ‘ Mylai Kesava Perumal Kovil’ is near Mylai Kapaleeswarar Temple and the Chithirai kulam belongs to this Temple.  This is Chandra pushkarini (sarva theertham) popularly known as Chithirai kulam.  The presiding deity here is Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal and thayar is Mayuravalli – the place itself was historically known as ‘Mayurapuri’. The temple is quite ancient and dates back to centuries.

Every year during Ekkaduthangal Thiruvural uthsavam, Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman visits this temple, has mangalasasanam of Sri Peyalwar and has purappadu in the mada veethis.  For many years, Sri Aadhi Kesava Perumal from Thirumayilai has been visiting Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam and have ‘vana bojana uthsavam’ performed here. Today,  3rd July 2016 morning  – Adhi Kesavar with all paraphernalia visited Thiruvallikkeni, had Thirumanjanam at Sri Vanamamalai Mutt at East Tank Sq St., Triplicane.  Sri NC Sridhar, Trustee  has been making arrangements in a grand way.

Here are some photos of the palanquin entering mada veethis of Thiruvallikkeni and a photo at Sri Vanamamalai mutt too.

Garuda Sevai at Thiruvallikkeni ~ from my archives

The third day of  Brahmothsavam is of special significance ~ it is Garuda Vahanam for Perumal.  Garuda is depicted as having the golden body of a strong person, has a white face, wings,  prominent beak, wears a crown – massive, strong – and more than anything else – ever devoted to  Sriman Narayanan, carrying Him on his shoulders all the time. His devotion and being close to Emperuman all the time – Garuda, is admired as ‘Periya Thiruvadi’.
Perumal  has purappadu in Garuda Sevai on other occasions with Masi Magam, Gajendra Moksham,  Panguni Uthram being special.  Today browsing my archives for other reasons, found these 2 photos – found them to be impressive and hence posting here.
