Sri Vedanthachar Sarrumurai @ Thiruvallikkeni 2019

In the month of Purattasi is celebrated the nine day festival of Navarathri.  In all these days, there occurs  grand purappadu of Vedavalli Thayar inside the temple premises.  ‘Siriya Thirumadal’ is recited  during the purappadu.  The last day is celebrated as Saraswathi Pooja, the day of reverence to the Lord of Learning.  The next day is Vijayadasami ~ the day considered most auspicious for starting learning.  Children are put in schools and taught the first syllable known as “Aksharabyasam”.  Today  8th Oct 2019    is * Vijayadasami *.   On Vijayadasami day, takes place  ‘paarvettai purappadu’  of Lord Parthasarathi on ‘kuthirai vahanam’.  Today is ‘thiruvonam nakshathiram’ in the month of Purattasi marking the birth of Sri Vedanthacharyar.

Close to the famous Mukthi Kshetram of Thirukachi, there are so many divyadesams – there is Thoopul.  In the year  1268 AD   on Sukla Paksha Dasami  thithi on Purattasi Thiruvonam was born Venkatanathan, hamsam of  “Thirumani” (bell).  Kidambi Appular, Venkatanathan’s Maternal Uncle, took him to the “Kalakshepam”  of Guru Nadathur Ammal, one day. On seeing Vekatanathan’s “divya thejas” (brilliance), Nadathur Ammal stopped the Kalakshepam and asked the boy to come on stage. Young Venkatanathan grew up to become an astute scholar, a preacher of SRivaishnava siddhantam.

Venkatanathan once travelled to Thiruvahindirapuram and did “mangalasasnam” to Lord Deivanayagan and his consort. He then went to Lord Nrusimha’s sannidhi in Oushadagiri, sat under a “Ashwattha” tree and recited the Garuda Mantram.    He also composed  Hayagreeva Sthotra, Garuda-dhandakam, Devanayaga-panchasath, Achyutha-sadakam, and many more literary gems in future.  Swami was well versed in Sanskrit, Prakritham, Tamil and was great in debate earning the title  “Kavitarkikasimham”(A lion among poets). Of his many skills, he confronted a mason in building a well which is now seen at his thirumaligai at Thiruvahindrapuram.

Swami Vedanthachar  lived a full and fruitful life for 102 years. In the misfortune when Islamic invaders looted Thiruvarangam, alongwith Swami Pillai Logachar, he emerged at the forefront in protecting our sampradhayam.   In the year 1369, he rested his head on the lap of his son Kumara Varadhachariar and left his mortal coil.
During his lifetime, Swami lived in Karnataka for 12 long years in a place know as Sathyagalam.

At Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, as Sri Parthasarathi Perumal had Vijayadasami parvettai purappadu, He entered mada veethi after sojourn and at TP Koil Street Junction near Sri Thelliya Singar sannathi, Swami Vedanthachar waited and accompanied Him with rendering of Sri Ramanusa noorranthathi.  Here are some photos of Swami Vedanthachar at Thiruvallikkeni
