வைகாசி விசாகம் ~ Swami Nammazhwar Sarrumurai today 2015

The Greatest among Alwars preached to us – “ ஒழிவில் காலமெல்லாம் உடனாய் மன்னி ,வழுவிலா அடிமை செய்ய வேண்டும்நாம்,” – that when we do kainkaryam to Lord (to Him at Thiruvenkadam), we must do service by being with HIM throughout our life and do as a slave would serve his master.   Today, 1^st June 2015  is a great day  for Sri Vaishnavas  –   ‘Vaikasi Visakham’ –marking the birth celebrations of Swami Nammazhwaar.  Acharyan Manavalamaamunigal in his ‘Upadesa Rathinamalai’ says : there is no other day matching Vaikasi Visakam; there is none matching Sadagopar; there is nothing equivalent to ‘Thiruvaimozhi’ and there is no place on earth which can be treated on par to Thirukurugai – the birthplace of Swami Nammalwar.

உண்டோ சடகோபர்க்கு ஒப்பொருவர் – உண்டோ*

திருவாய்மொழிக்கு ஒப்பு தென்குருகைக்குண்டோ*

ஒருபார் தனில் ஒக்குமூர்**

Swami Nammazhwaar was born on theauspicious poornima day of Tamil Vaikasi month in Visakha nakshathiram at Thirukurugur, now famously known as ‘Azhwar Thirunagari’.  He was born to Kari and Udayanangai.   He gave us - Thiruvaimozhi (1102 verses), Thiruvirutham (100), Thiruvasiriyam (7) and Periya Thiruvanthathi (87)

வைகாசி விசாக நட்சத்திரத்தில் காரி மாறனுக்கும் உடயநங்கைக்கும்   - நம்மாழ்வார் அவதரித்தார். இவர் பிறந்த போது அழவே இல்லையாம்.  சடம் என்றால் காற்று.  வாயுவை முறிததனால் சடகோபன் என பெயர் பெற்றாராம்.  இந்த சடகோபர்  திருக்குருகூர் [ஆழ்வார் திருநகரி ஆதிநாதர் ஆழ்வார்] கோயிலில் உள்ள புளிய மர பொந்தில் எந்த அசைவுகளும் இல்லாமல் வாசம் செய்தார்.

நீர் நுமது என்றிவை, வேர்முதல் மாய்த்து இறை *

சேர்மின் உயிர்க்கு அதனேர் நிறை யில்லே.

In the golden words of Swami Nammalwar – one should uproot from base and remove all thoughts of you and yours [அஹங்கார மமகாரங்கள்]; enlist and place thyself with the Lord, there is nothing equivalent or nothing that provide greater fulfilment.   

The Thiruvavathara Mahothsavam of Swami Nammazhwar concludes today ~and at Thiruvallikkeni, due to balalayam, there is no purappadu.  The photo of Swami Nammazhwar was taken a couple of years back !
