இன்று 21^st April 2014  -  ஏழாம் நாள் உத்சவம் -  காலை திருத்தேர்.  On the 7^th day of Uthsavam is the  Car Festival (Thiruther).  Early Morning Sri Parthasarathi with his consorts ascended the Thiruther.  The purappadu began at around 07.00 am and concluded around 08.15 am.  So swift it was...

The Thiruther attains special significance at Thiruvallikkeni as our Perumal derived his name for being the charioteer of Arjuna aka Parthan.  He served Parthan  as ‘Sarathi’ , and hence Sri Parthasarathi.  The Ther is not very big but is pretty majestic ~ it has wheels made of iron steel as the roads are  of thar, generally,  the uthsavam concludes in less than 2 hours with most of the time being taken at street corners where turn has to be negotiated ~ this time it was much fluent and concluded sooner. 

In some Temples, the Ther has hydraulic breaks also ~ not in Triplicane – here is is stopped using wedges. Remember Temple Thers [chariots] do not have steering for turning the wheel ~ it is done through deft usage of  ‘sliding wedges’, known as ‘muttu kattai’.   In Street corners, they push the chariot using the ‘crow bar’ technique

The Ther festival combines all people ~ it engages so many.  In villages, people will not move out of the village when there is the Car festival ~ all the people will join together to pull the Chariot….. at Thiruvallikkeni – it is grand festivity… hundreds will come to pull; the streets would be decorated with beautiful kolams, at many places – buttermilk and  panagam [jaggery water] [now a days – cool drinks] would be served to devotees.

It is a great pleasure to see the movement of Chariot with its big wheels gliding smoothly and the top portion slowly swinging.  In some places huge vadam made of coir rope is used to pull – at Thiruvallikkeni this ‘pull string’ [ther vadam] is made of steel and would weigh heavily.

நமது திவ்ய தேச எம்பெருமான் - ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி - பார்த்தன் ஆகிய அர்ஜுனனுக்கு தேர் ஓட்டும் சாரதி ஆனதால் - பார்த்தசாரதி.  தேர் என்றால் பிரம்மாண்டம் - மேலும் தேர் திருவிழா நடக்க ஊர் மக்கள் ஒன்று கூட வேண்டும்- 'ஊர் கூடி தேர் இழுத்தல்' என்பது மரபு.  இம் மரபு, பண்பாடு கடைபிடிக்கப்பட்டு வரும் கிராமங்களில் இன்றும், தேர் அன்று ஆண்கள் எவரும் ஊரை விட்டு போகமாட்டார்கள்.  அனைவரும் ஒன்று கூடி, தேர் திருவிழாவை சிறப்பிக்கச் செய்வர். 

திருவல்லிக்கேணி ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி சுவாமி திருத்தேர் அழகானது. மிகப் பெரியது என்று சொல்லமுடியாது எனினும் அது உருண்டு ஓடி வரும் கொள்ளைகொள்ளும் அழகு பிரமிக்க வைக்கும்.  இதனது சக்கரங்கள், இரும்பாலானவை.   மாட வீதிகள் தார் ரோடுகள் ஆனதால் சுமார் இரண்டு மணி நேரத்தில் புறப்பாடுமுடிந்து விடும்.  ஏராளமான மக்கள் கூடி தேர் இழுப்பர்.  தேர் வடம் சில ஊர்களில் தாம்புக் கயிற்றினால் ஆனதாக இருக்கும்; சில இடங்களில் இரும்பு.  திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் - இரும்பு.  

இன்று காலை ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் வேத கோஷத்துடன் அதிகாலை மணியளவில் திருத்தேருக்கு எழுந்து அருளினார்.  காலை 07.00 மணிக்கு பக்தர்கள் வடம் பிடிக்க, புறப்பாடு  ஆரம்பித்து 08.15 மணியளவில் தேர் நிலை திரும்பியது.  மிக துரித கதியில் தேர் நிலைக்கு  திரும்பியது  பக்தர்களுக்கு பெரும் ஆனந்தம்  தந்தது. சாயந்திரம் வரை ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி திருத்தேர் மீது  இருந்து பக்தர்களுக்கு   சேவை சாதித்தார்.  முன்பு திருத்தேர் முடிந்து, பெருமாள் இளைப்பாற வசந்த பங்களா எழுந்து அருளி, திருமஞ்சனம் கண்டுஅருளி வந்தார்.  இப்போது வசந்த பங்களா இல்லை;  புறப்பாடும் திருமஞ்சனமும் நடை பெறுகிறது.
