Thirumayilai Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal Thirumanjanam 2019

(21.7.2019) was  Poorattathi in the month of Aadi and it was a great day at Thiruvallikkeni as Thirumayilai Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal had vanabojana uthsavam and had thirumanjanam at Thiruvallikkeni Sri Vanamamalai Mutt.

Mylapore and Thiruvallikkeni existed much before the coming of the British.  Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal Devasthanam better known as ‘ Mylai Kesava Perumal Kovil’ is near Mylai Kapaleeswarar Temple and the Chithirai kulam belongs to this Temple  The presiding deity here is Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal and thayar is Mayuravalli – the place itself was historically known as ‘Mayurapuri’. The temple is quite ancient and dates back to centuries.  This perumal Sri Adhi Kesvar had purappadu to Thiruvallikkeni and had  Vana bhojanam at Thiruvallikkeni Sri Vanamamalai Mutt.   After the grand thirumanjanam – there was  periya mada veethi purappadu and later  thirumbugal purappadu to Thirumylai.

Here are some photos of Thirumanjanam of Sri Adhikesavar

Sri Andal Thiruvadipuram sirappu ~ Sri Villiputhur 2019

Colchicaceae is a family of flowering plants.  Gloriosa is a genus of 12 species in the plant family Colchicaceae, tropical and belonging to  southern Africa to Asia.  They are tender, tuberous rooted deciduous perennials, adapted to summer rainfall with a dormant dry season.

Srivilliputhur is a mystic place – city entwined in divinity of Kothai piratti.  It was the place referred as Varaha kshetra, a dense forest named Champaka, where sages Bhrigu and Markendeya did penance.  Demon called Kalaneri troubled the sages, Sriman Narayana appeared and slayed the demon.  He rested here    reclining on Adisesha, on the leaf of a banyan tree and the  came to be known as Vadaveshwarapuram.   The history of Srivilliputhur centres around the Srivilliputhur Andal Temple, dedicated to Andal.  The imposing temple of Sri   Vatapatrasayi is centuries old.  During the reign of Thirumalai Nayak (1623–1659) and Rani Mangammal (1689–1706), this city became very popular. Thirumalai Nayak renovated all the temples of this city. Until 1850, Sri Andal temple was under the care of the king of Trivancore.

The tall Rajagopuram of Sri Vadabathrasayee  192 ft (59 m)  is the official symbol of the Government of Tamil Nadu (Sri Vatapatrasayi Temple Tower).  The temple in fact could be seen as two - the one of Andal located on the Southwest and the  one of Vatapatrasayi on the Northeast direction. A granite wall surrounds the temple, enclosing all its shrines, the garden where Andal was born lies in between these two temples.
Thiruvallikkeni Sri Andal

A great day today  (3rd Aug 2019) ~ the concluding day of Andal Uthsavam – Thiruvadipuram.

Sri Andal’s birth occurred in the 98th   year of Kali Yuga – Nala Varudam – in the month of Aadi – shukla paksham – chathurthasi day.   She was found in a thulsi garden at  Sri Villiputhur by Vishnu Chithar [Periyazhwaar]. Our Acharyar in his  ‘Upadesa Rathina Malai’ hails the day as  ‘ Periyaazhwar pen pillaiai Aandal pirantha thiruvadipurathin seermai’.  Uyyakkondar says in the thanian visualizing Srivilliputhur as a very special Divyadesam where Hamsam [anna pakshi] known for its power to separate milk from water are abundant and hails Andal for the verses with which she offered garlands to the Lord.

Sri Andal in her Nachiyar Thirumozhi   describes the Lord as having the white conch, wearing beautiful yellow silken robes, having tresses on shoulders hovering like bees over His lotus face, the Lord of immense compassion been worshipped at Vrindavan [Brindavan nearer Mathura, where Krishna grew up !]

On this glorious day of Kothai Nachiyar, let us prostrate at the Lotus feet of Sriman Narayana, singing the verses of Kothai piratti, which will ensure all goodness and prosperity in this material World and in the heavenly World.

worshipping Lord of Seven Hills - Thiruvengadamudaiyan :

The holy Thirumala attracts us ~ and we yearn to go to the Seven Hills and have darshan of Thiruvengadamudaiyan again and again – HE is everywhere !

Chennai’s George Town occupies a commanding place in the British history of Chennai aka Madras. The locality was first adopted by the British Powers as their base during the 1600s.  The place associated with British residents Georgetown now lies in one corner of NSC Bose road [named after Nethaji Subash Chandra Bose] – from Walltax road, it connects Beach road [Rajaji Salai] – the other corner is known as Parry’s corner with Cholamandalam EID Parry building prominently facing the road.

The ancestral Parry family comprised prosperous farmers near the Welsh market town of Welshpool and lived in some state in a large mansion called Leighton Hall. Thomas Parry (1768–1824) was a Welsh merchant who became a big businessman.  Parry became a household name in Chennai. Parry set up the EID Parry company.  Parry undertook the six-month journey around Cape of Good Hope arriving in Madras entering  as a Free Merchant, free from the controls of the East India Company.

There are so many lanes from Parrys Corner opposite to Madras High Court – one of them is Thambu Chetty Street – there are so many Pillaiyar temples and Amman temples in street corners and on the roads – this one at Thambu Chetty St attracted me .. . .. a small roadside temple dedicated to the Lord of Seven Hills – Thirupathi Balaji temple .. .. and the man’s name is Das.

the Lord the Saviour Emperuman Sriman Narayanan saved the cowherds and everyone at Govardhan by holding the hill with His little finger and the One who measured the earth with His feet, is settled in the Great Hill of Thirumala and everywhere  ~ those of us going and worshipping Him there will get rid of all bad things – the ill-effects of Karma will get destroyed in a trice.

Hindu temple at Silakot open to darshan again !

Madra Kingdom was a kingdom grouped among the western kingdoms in the epic Mahabharata. Its capital was Sagala (modern Sialkot now in the Punjab province of Pakistan). The Kuru king Pāṇḍu’s  wife Mathuri  was from Madra kingdom and was called Madri.  The Pandava twins, Nakula and Sahadeva, thus were the nephews of King Salliyan (Shalya) ~ however by quirk of circumstances, Salliya had to  support  Duryodhana.  King  Shalya was  a powerful Spear fighter and a formidable charioteer.  On the 16th and 17th days of Mahabaratha  war, Shalya served as Karna's charioteer – he heads the army too but is eventually killed by Dharmaputra.

Sialkot in Punab province of Pakistan is its  13th largest city and is reported to be an industrial town.   Along with the nearby cities of Gujranwala and Gujrat, Sialkot forms part of the so-called Golden Triangle of industrial cities with export-oriented economies.  After the puranic Mahabarath, Sialkot is believed to be site of ancient Sagala, a city razed by Alexander the Great in 326 BCE.  The city rose in prominence during the British era, and is now one of Pakistan's most important industrial centres. It is considered to be a wealthy place as compared to other cities of Pak.   Sialkot is also has the  Sialkot International Airport – Pakistan's first privately owned public airport.

The city that tens of thousands of residents was reportedly razed down by the invading Alexander.  Sialkot, along with Punjab as a whole, was captured by the British following their victory over the Sikhs at the Battle of Gujrat in February 1849. During the British era, an official known as The Resident who would in theory advise the Maharaja of Kashmir would reside in Sialkot during the wintertime. During the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, the two Bengal regiments based in Sialkot rebelled against the East India Company.

It is not history that interests us but the news that a 1,000-year-old Hindu temple in Pakistan Punjab's Sialkot city, which was sealed for the last 72 years, has been re-opened for people.Shawala Teja Singh Temple in Dhaarowal was built by Sardar Teja Singh and closed during partition. The Hindus of Sialkot stopped visiting the temple after a mob damaged it in 1992 while protesting the demolition of the Babri Masjid in India, SAMAA TV reported. The step was taken on the direction of Prime Minister Imran Khan, said the report.

"We are thankful to the government for opening our temple," said a Hindu man while speaking to SAMAA TV. "We can come here whenever we want now."The temple, located in city’s congested Dhaarowal locality, is more than 1,000 years old, according to the book ‘History of Sialkot’ by the late Rashid Niaz. The temple is located on a dune along Allama Iqbal Road and one has to climb up staircases to reach the building.Last year, the tehsil municipal administration established a family park around the temple at the cost of Rs5 million, but it was reported that the temple was not well maintained and was becoming home to addicts.

A mob had damaged the temple, including the tombs, in 1992 while protesting the demolition of Babari Mosque in India.Local Hindu community worshipped and performed their religious rituals at historical ''Shawala Teja Singh temple'' here on Tuesday. The jubilant Hindus distributed sweets and greeted each other and thanked the government for re-opening the temple after 72-year closure.Local Hindu leaders -- Rattan Lal, Ramaish Kumar, Dr Munawar Chand, Amarnath Randhawa and Pandit Kashi Ram, after performing their religious rituals at the temple, hailed the Pakistan government''s decision.

Built by Sardar Teja Singh, Shawala Teja Singh temple is dedicated to Hindu deity Shiva, in Sialkot in Pakistan's Punjab province. Pilgrims climb a steep staircase to reach the temple, which according to ‘History of Sialkot’ is about 1,000 years old.  Pak Press report that the  re-opening of the Shawala Teja Singh temple is a major decision in favour of the Hindus, who form the biggest minority community in Pakistan. According to official estimates, 75 lakh Hindus live in Pakistan, with a majority of them settled in Sindh province.

For 72 years, Partition has given rise to continuing conflict between India and Pakistan which is now beginning to show signs of slowing down, a ‘hope’ that’s supported in the TOFWP report which states that 3,000 violations of the peace agreement occurred in 2017, it reduced to 1,000 while in 2018.  .. .. that sounds a beginning – though could still well be far far away from peace for minorities who have been harassed and subjected to all sorts of harsh treatments in Pakistan
