Sri Rama Navami 4 ~ Thiruvallikkeni 2019

Very many centuries ago, descended on this earth, the Greatest Maryada Purush, the epitome of all virtues, who showed to all human beings on how to lead the life…. “Lord Sri Rama”.  His birth celebrations ~ Sri Rama Navami Uthsavam is on…. Today, 8^th Apr 2o19   -  is day 4  of the Uthsavam.  At Thiruvallikkeni, it was day of Thavana Uthsavam too and hence Sri Ramar with Sita mata and Lakshmana had purappadu in the morning to the thavana uthsav bungalow.

ஆடினர் அரம்பயைர்; அமுத ஏழ் இசை
பாடினர் கின்னரர்; துவைத்த பல் இயம்;
‘வீடினர் அரக்கர்’ என்று உவக்கும் விம்மலால்.
ஓடினர்,  உலாவினர்,  உம்பர் முற்றுமே.]

Kavi Chakkaravarthi hails the birth of Yuga Purush Sri Ramapiran thus .. the divine dancers danced merrily; mellifluous songs were played in instruments, Devas and others danced celebrating that the evil would vanished once for all ~ there was merriment everywhere celebrating the birth of Sri Rama. 

யுகங்களின் அற்புத புருஷனான ஸ்ரீ ராமபிரான் பிறப்பை எண்ணி பெறுவகையுற்று, வானுலகத்து நடனப்பெண்கள் -  அரம்பை முதலிய தேவமாதர், மகிழ்ச்சி பொங்கிட ஆடினார்கள்.  கின்னரர்கள் அமுதத்தை ஒத்த இனிய ஏழ் இசைகளைப் பாடினர்;   பலவகை  வாத்தியங்கள்  கொட்டப்பட்டன;  தீய்மை ஒழிந்தது,  தீய அரக்கர்கள்  அழிந்தனர் என்று தேவர்களும் மற்றையோரும் ஆர்ப்பரித்தனர்.   இவ்வாறு தேவர்பிரானான ஸ்ரீராமபிரான் பிறப்பு மூவுலகலித்திலும் எண்ணற்ற ஆனந்தத்தை அளித்தது.  இந்த ஜகம் புகழும் புண்ணிய காதையான 'ஸ்ரீராமாயணத்தை' பாடுவோர்க்கும் கேட்போர்க்கும் எல்லா நல்லதும் நடக்கும்.

Celebrating the birth of Sri Rama ~ Sree Rama Navami Uthsavam started on 5.4.2019.  Apr 13 is Sri Rama Navami. .. …the birthday of Lord Sri Rama.  Here are some photos of most beautiful, attractive, blemishless Sri Ramapiran.

ஜகம் புகழும் ஸ்ரீ ராமபிரான் அவதரித்த நல்நாள் ஸ்ரீராம நவமி.  நன்மையளிப்பவனும், இணையற்றவனும்,  தாமரைக்கண்ணனும், பூசிக்கத்  தக்கவனுமாகிய   - இராமபிரானின் அருள் பெறாதவர் - இருந்தும், என்ன செய்தும் என்ன  பயன் என  வினவினாராம் தியாகய்யர்.  ஸ்ரீ ராமபிரான் முடி சூட வந்தபோது, அவரை பார்த்த அயோத்தி மக்கள் :

‘உய்த்தது இவ்வுலகம்’ என்பார்; ‘ஊழி காண் கிற்பாய்’ என்பார்;

‘மைந்த! நீ கோடி எங்கள் வாழ்க்கை நாள் யாவும்’

~  “செய்ய முடியாத தவத்தை செய்து இப்படி ஒரு செம்மலைப் பெற்றெடுத்த தசரத மன்னனுக்கு என்ன கைம்மாறு செய்யப்போகிறோம்,?”   என புகழ்ந்து மகிழ்ந்தனாராம் அயோத்தி மக்கள்.

குடந்தை என்றழைக்கப்படும் கும்பகோணம், இணையாக ஓடும் இரண்டு ஆறுகளுக்கிடையில் அமைந்துள்ள கண்ணைக் கவரும் இனிமையான நகரமாகும்.  கும்பகோணத்தின் வடபகுதியில் காவிரியும், தென்பகுதியில் அரசலாறும் ஓடுகின்றன. தென்னிந்தியாவை ஆண்ட பண்டைக் கால அரச வம்சங்களான, சோழர்கள், பல்லவர்கள்,பாண்டியர்கள், மதுரை  நாயக்கர்கள்,  தஞ்சாவூர் நாயக்கர்கள் மற்றும் தஞ்சாவூர் மராத்தியர்கள் ஆகியோரது ஆட்சிக் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் கும்பகோணம் இருந்துள்ளது. 7ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் இடைக்காலச் சோழர்கள் கும்பகோணத்தைத் தம் தலைநகரமாக ஆக்கினர்.   கும்பகோணத்திலும் அதனைச் சுற்றிலும் உள்ள ஏராளமான கோவில்களின் காரணமாக இந்நகரம் கோவில்களின் நகரம் என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. கும்பகோணம் நகராட்சிக்குட்பட்ட பகுதிக்குள் 188 கோவில்கள் உள்ளதாக சொல்லப்படுகிறது.

கும்பகோணத்தில் பெரிய கடைத்தெருவின் தெற்கு கோடியில் அமைந்துள்ளது ஸ்ரீராமஸ்வாமி திருக்கோவில்.  இக்கோவில் கும்பேஸ்வரர் கோவிலுக்கு வெகு அருகிலே உள்ளது. ஐந்து நிலை ராஜகோபுரம் கொண்ட இக்கோவில்  பதினாறாம் நூற்றாண்டில் ரகுநாத நாயக்க மன்னரால் நிர்மாணிக்கப்பட்டதாகும்.  மூலவர் ராமபிரான் பட்டாபிஷேகக் கோலத்தில் ஸீதையுடன் ஒரே ஆஸனத்தில் அமர்ந்து கையில் வில் இல்லாமல் காட்சி அளிக்கிறார்.  வலப்புறம் லக்ஷ்மணன்  வில்லை  தாங்கி நிற்க பரதன் வெண்கொற்றக் குடைபிடிக்க, ஸத்ருக்னன் சாமரம் வீச, ஆஞ்சனேயர் ஒரு கையில் வீணையும், மற்றொரு கையில் ராமாயண புஸ்தகமும் ஏந்தியவாறு அற்புத தரிசனம் அளிக்கின்றனர்.

The city of KUmbakonam is known for its Temples. Among the Srivaishnava temples at the holy sthalam Thirukudanthai  is Ramaswamy Temple – situate nearer Kumbeswarar Kovil.  The temple built by Nayakkar kings has beautiful architecture and has exquisite paintings.  Moolavar here is Lord Rama and consort Sita seated with Lakshmana holding the bow,  Baratha and Satrugna doing service, with Anjaneya worshipping. 

Uthsavam for the Maryada Purush ~ Emperor of Kosala Kingdom is now at Thirukudanthai too and on 6.4.2019 @ 10.30 pm had the great darshan of Lord Sri Rama with Sita mata and Lakshmana of Sri Ramaswamy Thirukovil on ‘Indra vimanam’ ~ a beautiful vimanam having Hanuman and other monkey kingdom too – here are some photos of the beautiful purappadu on the mada veethis of Thirukudanthai.

On 31^st Mar 2019  – divine music outpoured at Gangai Kondan Mandapam at Thiruvallikkeni. Music is heavenly when it is purely devotional – in our cult, it is Nama Sankeerthanam, more colloquially bhajans.   Before Panchanga release function, was the soul-stirring performance of singing bhajans by ‘Bakthaswara Bhajan Mandali’  who with the guidance of Kanchi Sri Sankaracharya swami has been doing bhajans, nama sankeerthanam, annadhanam, education aid and more for the past 33 years. .. ..

Nama sankeerthanam ~ chanting the various names of God is very sacred.   விஷ்ணுசித்தன் என்ற பெரியாழ்வார் - தமது பெரியாழ்வார் திருமொழியில் - கண்ணன் பிறந்தது முதல், தவழ்ந்தது, விளையாடியது, கண்ணனுக்கு அம்புலியைக்காட்டி சோறு ஊட்டியது, நீராடியது, சிறந்த நறுமண  பூக்களை சூடிக்கொண்டது என ஒவ்வொரு பருவமாய் சீராட்டி படி வருகையில் - குழந்தைகளுக்கு, அழகான நமக்கு அருள் தரும் ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனின் பெயரை சூட்டி, அவர்களை பலவாறு கூப்பிட்டு மகிழ்தல் எவ்வளவு சிறப்பானது என விவரிக்கிறார்.

ஆழ்வார் அருள்வாக்கு :  "கேசவன் பேரிட்டு நீங்கள் தேனித் திருமினோ"  - செல்லக்குழந்தையை -  செங்கணெடுமால் சிரீதரா,  வானுடை மாதவா, குலமுடைக் கோவிந்தா கோவிந்தா என்றெல்லாம்  செம்பெருந் தாமரைக் கண்ணன் பேரிட்டழைத்தக்கால் ~ அத்தகைய மகனை பெற்றோர் நரகம் புக மாட்டார்கள்.

                        14^th Apr 2019  would mark the starting of Tamil new year ‘ Vihari’  and naturally everyone is curious to know how the year would be !  Do you know …: “ Sarvathari, Virothi, Vikruthi, Kara, Nanthana, Vijaya, Jaya, Manmatha, Thurmukhi, He Vilambi .. ..  (names of Tamil New year – 10 of them preceding Vihari)  -   …………. On Sunday, 31^st Mar 2019, it was a grand gathering at Gangai Kondan Mandapam in Thiruvallikkeni…….. reason… ‘Panchangam release of ‘Brahmins Welfare Association’, Triplicane and Yours Truly was on stage compering.

“In the ‘VaivasvathaManvantharam, after passage of 27 Maha Yugas ~ now in the 28th Mahayuga – after passage of 3 Yugas ~ in the Kali Yuga – after passage of 4 lakh 28 thousands of years – in the year 5119  Salivahana Saha  1940 – Vilambhi Varusha Panguni thiruvonam day  (31.3.19) …… should go the lengthy introduction exactly describing the day on which the  ‘Vihari’ Varusha Panchanga release function was held’.

A panchāngam (பஞ்சாங்கம்) is not simply  a Hindu calendar and almanac, but more important book that follows traditional units of Indian timekeeping, and presents important dates and their calculations in a tabulated form. Panchāngams are published in India by many learned authors, societies, academies, and universities. Different publications differ only minutely, at least for a casual or un-trained reader. They forecast celestial phenomena such as solar eclipses, forecast weather (rain, dryspells) as well as more mundane occurrences. The study of Panchāngams involves understanding Rasiphalan, the impact of the signs of the zodiac on the individual. Astrologers consult the Panchāngam to set auspicious dates for weddings and the like.

Panchangam literally translates to having five parts [angas].  They are :

•        Tithi - Ending Moment (EM) of elongation of the Moon, the lunar day, the angular relationship between Sun and Moon

•        Varam – the weekday ~ the seven days of the week

•        Nakshatra - the stellar mansion in which Moon is located for an observer at the center of the Earth. There are 27 Nakshatras.

•        Yoga - EM of the angular relationship between Sun and Moon

•         Karana - EM of half of a Tithi. One Karaṇa equals 6 degree difference between Moon and Sun.

At 06.15 pm  the function started.   On the podium were :

®     Sri VB Mukundan (Kanchi Krishna), Secretary – BWA Triplicane.

The programme started with ‘திருமங்கைமன்னன் - ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதிக்கு மங்களாசாசனம்  செய்த விற்பெரு விழவும் பாசுரம்” by Sri S Sampathkumar.  President KVR welcomed the audience.  Yours Truly   introduced the Guests and compered the event.

After speeches by the Guests, Panchangam was released by Smt Suganthi Krishnamachari – received by the dignataries on the dias.   It is not simply a religious book – the compiling of this requires lot of precision Maths.  While it is Day : 24 hours : 60 Minutes : 60 seconds ….. the calculations are much more minutely accurate in Vedic and computation of Panchangam ~ it is 48 minutes = 1 muhurtham; 24 minutes = 1 nazhigai; 60 nazhigai = 1 day; 2 ½ nazhigai = 1 hour…….. 15 days is = 1 paksham; 2 months = 1 ruthu;….and minutely …. 1 Paramaanu = 0.0002 seconds  … the book contains so much of useful information and should be treasured in every Brahmin house.

Sri K Padmanabhan (Kovai Pathu) drama artist,  who has been rendering great service for over 50 years, through Sri Guruvayurappan Seva Samithi was honoured on stage.  Kanchi Krishna, Secretary was honoured on the dias for preparing this panchangam. TJ Ramani  proposed vote of thanks. 

In all, it was a grand show organized by Brahmin Welfare Association of Triplicane.  Copies of new  panchangam were distributed to all those present at the mantap.  Prasadam too was distributed.  Here are some photos of the function.

Panguni Thiruvonam purappadu @ Thiruvallikkeni 2019

Today 31.3.2019 marks the end of Financial year and most Companies were working – officials were busy finalizing business figures, trying to improve their business performances.

At Thiruvallikkeni it was Punguni Thiruvonam ~ last thiruvonam – i.e., next one in Chithirai will be Brahmothsavam and hence Sri Parthasarathi had periya mada veethi purappadu.  It was Sri Peyalwar’s moonram thiruvanthi in the goshti.

இப்புவியில் இவ்வளவு பாவங்களை செய்யும் நாம் எங்கு சென்று உழல்வோம் ?  ~ அத்தகைய நரகத்தில் நம்மை காக்கவல்லன் எவன் ?? ஆழ்வார் பாடல்களிலே தமிழ் வார்த்தை சொல்லாடலும், மணமும் கமழும்.  தமிழ் தலைவன் என கொண்டாடப்படும் ஸ்ரீ பேயாழ்வார் தம் மூன்றாம் திருவந்தாதி தனிலே ~ 'அமம், துரகம் ' - என்னே ஒரு சொல்லாடல் !  

கிருஷ்ணாவதாரத்தில் தன்னை விழுங்கிக் கொல்லுமாறு கம்ஸனாலே ஏவப்பட்டு பெரியகுதிரை வடிவங்கொண்டு வந்த கேசியென்னும் அஸுரனை வாய்ப்பிளந்தொழித்த கண்ணபிரானே நரகத்தில் நின்றும் நம்மைக் காத்தருள்வனென்கிறார் பேயாழ்வார். 'அமஞ்சூழ்ந்து' – அமமாவது நோய், மலையும் வீசும்பும் காற்றும் நோவுபடும்படாக, எனவே இவைற்றைத் திரஸ்கரித்து மேலாக விளங்குகின்ற குதிரை என்றதாம். 'துரகம்' – வடசொல், வேகமாகச் செல்வது என்று காரணக் குறி. இமஞ்சூழ் மலையும் இருவிசும்பும் காற்றும்,

பனியாலே சூழப்பட்டிருக்கிற வெள்ளிப்பனி  இமயமலையையும், பெரிய ஆகாயத்தையும், வாயுவையும், அமம் சூழ்ந்து (பருமனாலும் உயர்த்தியாலும் வேகத்தாலும்) திரஸ்கரித்து, தெள்ளத்தெளிவாக விளங்கி  கண்ணெதிரே வந்து தோன்றின, குதிரைவடிவு கொண்டு வந்த கேசியென்னுமசுரனை, திருக்கையால் பற்றி - அந்த அரக்கன் தன்  வாயைக் கிழிந்துப்போட்ட பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன் , நம்மை, யமனைத் தலைவனாகக்கொண்ட நரகத்திலே புகவொட்டாமல் ரக்ஷித்தருள்வன் !

Sri Peyalwar guides that our protector is Sriman Narayana.  With his bare hands, He killed the mighty  Rakshas in disguise of horse  Kesi.  He who protected the mountains, the skies, the winds and all else within Himself will surely protect us from the travails at hell.

Let us bow to Sriman Narayana and fall at His Lotus Feet, as guided by Azhwar.
