At the famous Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam – the presiding deity is
Emperuman Sri Venkata Krishnan – the Geethacharyan with His family – Sri
Balarama, Rukmini piratti, Sathyaki, Prathyumnan and Aniruthan and Uthsavar Sri
Parthasarathi perumal. A king by name
Sumathy prayed Lord Thiruvengadamudaiyan wishing His darshan at Brindaranya –
the place which Athreya maharishi chose for tapas based on the advice of his
Acarya – and at Thiruvallikkeni Bhagwan Sree Krishna blesses us all in standing
posture with divine conch in right hand, left directing to His feet for
surrender – He has a sword and sports a moustache too. In the Mahabaratha yudh, He vowed not to
fight with weapons and this is not a sword – but the weapon that kills crass
ignorance being the sword of wisdom & knowledge.
No post on Thiruvallikkeni mahatmiyam but on Acarya Nampillai –
some may not know the significance of this beautiful sannathi in Peyalwar Koil
Street adjacent to the sannadhi of Peyazhwar.
.. .. at the entrance of Komutti bungalow !!
Sri Nampillai, in the Acharya paramparai is known for his scholastic excellence. He was the disciple of Sri Nanjeeyar and acharyar of Vadakku Thiruveethipillai. His commentary on Thiruvoimozhi known as Muppathu Aarayira(m)ppadi - is considered as the best amongst the vyakyanams; considered equivalent to Thiruvoimozhi itself and is celebrated as “Eedu.
Swami
was born as “Varadhacharyar” in the year Prabhva, 4249 kaliyugadi, in Karthigai
Month in Krithikai Nakshatra. He lived a
life of 105 years in this world. His period is 1147 AD –
1252AD. His life time was during the era of Chola
dynasty and he was a witness to its glory, disintegration, defeat and
annexation to Pandya kingdom. His Eedu also chronicles some part of the history
of his time, as they are related to the temple of Srirangam. Nampillai
discoursed the lectures of Parasara Bhattar to his disciples Periavachaan
Pillai and Vadakku Thiruveedi Pillai. who in turn employed them in their
respective commentaries. “Muppathu aarayirappadi” of Vadakku thiruveethipillai
based on the discourses of Swami Nampillai is considered the best.
The Oranvazhi acharya paramparai mantle passed on from Parasara
Bhattar to Namjeeyar and Nampillai. Nanjeeyar appreciated Varadhacharyar on his
writings on Thiruvoimozhi and called him “Nampillai” Swami Manavalamamunigal
has hailed Nampillai in “Upadesa Rathinamalai”.
Swami Nampillai of this fame has a sannadhi at
Triplicane, situate at the front of Sri Bhandaram Committee place commonly
known as “Komutti bungalow”. Around 150 years earlier, there was a great person
by name Yogi Parthasarathi Iyengar and his wife was Yogi Singamma. (would
write in detail about these great persons and the Ammanji mandir at Ayodhya)
This Nampillai sannadhi was renovated and
re-built decoratively recently by the Committee, spearheaded by Sri MA Venkata
Krishnan Swami. AT Nampillai sannathi today started 5 day uthsavam
with 200 pasurams of Thiruvaimozhi on each day.
Today it was first two decads of Thiruvaimozhi. You can hear a couple of pasurams of the
sevakalam this evening :
Today Sri Ranganathar here had sarruppadi as ‘Sri VEnkata
Krishnan’ (sarruppadi – Pillailokam Ramanujam swami); Here are some photos of
Sri Namperumal & Ranganayaki thayar -
