Reminiscing good olden days ~

Amid the novel coronavirus cases not coming down, Tamil Nadu government has now announced that it will extend the virus-induced lockdown in the state till 31st  Octo 2020 but with further relaxations. However, Chief Minster   assured further relaxations in the next phase of the lockdown and the guidelines will concentrate mostly on containment zones. Essential items and all the relaxations already announced under the state's unlock guidlines will be in place. The Q that comes to mind, are there any restrictions at all ? – sub-urban trains and MRTS are not operational but city buses are running. It seems as if everyone else is out there on the roads.

It is not only the economic bearing but perhaps many are feeling bored. Ennui is the French word for boredom. An idle mind, people sitting at home, or rather hooked to TV and mobile phones – reading and posting all unwanted things on social media have taken them to a different world, where they are slowly losing the sense of time. Time in the brain doesn't follow the steady ticking of the world's most precise clocks. Instead, it seems to fly by at one moment and practically stand still at others. This distorted sense of time may be caused, in part, by brain cells getting tired, according to a new study. When the brain has been exposed to the same exact time interval too many times, neurons or brain cells get overstimulated and fire less often, the study finds. However, our perception of time is complicated, and many other factors may also explain why time moves slowly sometimes and quickly at others.

So when forced exile, just think of good things and deeds – pray our Emperumanar whose mercy was so kind that it encompassed all living beings, guiding them for peaceful living.  Emperumanar Sri Ramanujar travelled far and wide, codified kainkaryam and ensured that Srivaishnavas live a structured life.

Blessed are We, the present generation –  we grandly celebrated on  1st May 2017,  Thiruvathirai nakshathiram in the month of Chithirai ~ great sigifinicance for it marked a very special  birthday of our greatest Acharyar Swami Ramanujar ~ commemorating the  1000th year.

‘Ananthah sarasi dhere  Ramye  Bhoothapurivare’ – on the bank of Ananthasaras the temple pushkarini, is the temple of Sri Adhi Kesavar.   Boothapuri, better known now as Sri Perumpudur is the most divine place for us –  the place where our Greatest Acharyar “Emperumanaar, Bashyakarar” the reincarnation of Aadi Sesha and Sri Lakshmanar was born,  in the year 1017  to Kesava Somayaji and Gandhimathi couples,  in the year of grace of Pingala corresponding to year 939 of Salivahana era  and lived for a period of 120 years.

Our Srivaishnavism hails Ubhaya Vedanta – there are philosophies restricted to having their scriptures in either Sanskrit or Tamil ~ Sri Vaishnavism has Sanskrit and dravida vedantha in equal parlance. .. .. and we have the noblest of preceptors  - Swami Ramanujar – the King of all hermits guiding us the path.      Worshipping Sri Ramanujar will cure us of all sins and can there by a better time for doing it  than now.

On the  6th  day of the Uthsavam, in the morning,  Sri Ramanujar   gives darshan astride a horse adorning  pure white silk dress.  The 6th day celebration is known as  “Vellai Sathupadi” a symbolic tradition when our Great Acharyar dons white garment and is seen without tridandam.  In the evening purappadu is on tholukkuk iniyan.

Here are some photos of the evening purappadu of day 6 of Udayavar Uthsavam  that occurred on 17.4.2018 – in those blissful days, all of us celebrated and the exuberance of youngsters with their kutti perumal can also seen to be enjoyed.
