ஆனைக்கு  அருள் செய்த பெருமாள் கஜேந்திர வரதன்.  அர்ஜுனனுக்கு அருள் செய்த பெருமாள் நம் பார்த்தசாரதி.  எம்பெருமானின் திருப்பாதங்களில் புகல் அடைவதே நம்மை கொரோனா போன்ற கொடிய நோய்களில் இருந்து காக்கும். 

முன்னொரு காலத்தில்  பக்தனான இந்த்ரத்யும்நனென்னும் அரசன் வழக்கப்படி  பூஜை செய்து கொண்டிருந்தபோது அகஸ்த்ய மஹாமுனிவன் அவனிடம் எழுந்தருள,   அவ்வரசன் தன் கருத்து முழுவதையும் திருமாலைப் பூஜிப்பதில் செலுத்தியிருந்ததனால் அம்முனிவனது வருகையை அறியாதவனாய் அவனுக்கு உபசாரமொன்றுஞ் செய்யாதிருக்க, அம்முனிவன் இப்படி அரசன் நம்மை அலக்ஷியஞ் செய்தானென்று மாறாகக் கருதிக் கோபித்து , ‘யானைபோலச் செறுக்குற்றிருந்ததனால் யானையாகக் கடவை’ என்று சபிக்க, அங்ஙனமே அவன் ஒரு காட்டில் யானையாகத் தோன்றினனாயினும் முன்செய்த விஷ்ணுபக்தியின் மஹிமையினால் அப்பொழுதும் விடாமல் நாள்தோறும் ஆயிரந்தாமரை மலர்களைக் கொண்டு திருமாலை அர்ச்சித்துப் பூஜித்துவருகையில், ஒருநாள் பெரியதொரு தாமரைத் தடாதகத்தில் அர்ச்சனைக்காகப் பூப்பறிப்பதற்குப்போய் இறங்கி முதலை வாயில் அகப்பட்டான்.

சாபமும் சாபவிமோசனமும் புராணங்களில் வரும் நிகழ்வுகள். சாபம் என்பது எப்போதுமே பிரக்ஞையின் மேல்நிலையிலிருந்து கீழ்நிலைக்குத் தள்ளப்படுவது.  எம்பெருமானின் கருணையால்   விமோசனம் பெற்றதும்  மீண்டும் சுயநிலையை அடைவது நடக்கிறது. தேவர்கள் மனிதர்களாகப் பிறவியெடுப்பதும், மனிதர்கள் விலங்குகளாகப் பிறப்பதும் தத்தம் நிலையிலிருந்து அவர்கள் கீழே தள்ளப்படுவதைக் காட்டுகிறது.

The present phase  of lockdown (with few days called as intense)  is totally confusing – more people are on the streets.  Some offices have reopened and many shops are open – people are loitering on the streets even as the no. affected is going up.  From city centeric, it has now spread throughout the State affecting distant districts.  This is scheduled to end on 31 July but lockdown with relaxations, currently in force across Tamil Nadu, is likely to continue until August-end. While further relaxations could be considered, when chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami holds discussions with district collectors on Wednesday, the ban on public transport as well as malls and cinema halls will remain in force, official sources said. “With Covid positive numbers growing in the districts, the lockdown is likely to be continued beyond July 31, when the present lockdown comes to an end. Some more relaxations could be considered, but controls over public places and public transport will remain till at least next month,” said a state government official.

With daily coronavirus cases (49,931) inching close to 50,000, the total number of infections in India crossed the 14-lakh mark on Monday. The toll rose to 32,771 with 708 deaths in the last 24 hours. Of the 14,35,453 cases, India currently has over 4.85 lakh active cases, while 9.17 lakh patients have already recovered.  The World is in search of an antidote.  Urging people not to lower their guard, PM Narendra Modi on Sunday said coronavirus is still as fatal as it was in the beginning when the contagion appeared on the global scene. During his monthly radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’, he urged citizens to take a pledge of freedom from the pandemic on August 15 and also resolve for self-reliant India on the lines of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ he had announced. His message comes at a time when curbs are easing and it is being felt that the public at large is becoming slack in observing social distancing and use of masks and cases of infection are rising.

A 30-year-old man was on Friday given the first dose of undertrial coronavirus vaccine Covaxin at Delhi's All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). A total of 12 volunteers were called for a number of pre-tests that include blood and nasopharyngeal testing for COVID-19. After results, 10 healthy individuals were selected for the vaccine to be given in phases. After the first dose, a report on their health condition will be submitted to the ethics committee, which will reviewing the entire process. 100 healthy people will be vaccinated at AIIMS during these trial. Covaxin, developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the ICMR and the National Institute of Virology (NIV), had recently got the approval for human clinical trials from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).

Away in USA, in signing a $2 billion deal to supply their experimental coronavirus vaccine to the U.S., Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE are setting a price ceiling of less than $20 a dose that will impact how much other companies can charge to protect people from Covid-19. Governments worldwide are seeking to blunt a pandemic that’s killed more than 600,000 people, and dozens of companies are wrestling with how to price future vaccines. Rival drugmakers are unlikely to exceed the $20 price tag unless they can deliver a product that’s more effective, has fewer side effects or that doesn’t need as many doses, particularly those developing candidates based on so-called messenger RNA technology, such as Moderna Inc.

Of those who render service to Emperuman Sriman Narayanan – Ananthan, the AdiSesha serves Him in the best possible manner that one could visualize. Ananthazhwaan is ever at the service of the Lord in every possible manner. In our Sampradhayam, Ananthan is reverred.  Sesha is the King of all Nagas who holds an exalted place in puranas.   To praise more of his attributes, Adi Sesha never gets separated from Sriman Narayana. When Maha Vishnu took the exalted avathars, Adisesha too accompanied Him and did continued service.  He never thinks of his own comfort – in the Ramayana, Ilayavar Lakshmana (adi sesha) seldom took rest, did not sleep a wink, stood guard remaining ever vigilant.  In Krishnavathara, Balarama cared more for his brother.  Our Acarya Ramanujar is reincarnation of Sesha and our Acarya Swami Manavala Mamunigal was another reincarnation of Adi sesha and did yeoman service to Emperuman.

திரிகூட மலைக்காடுகளில் வசித்துவந்த யானைக் கூட்டத்தின் தலைவன் கஜேந்திரன் (முந்தைய அரசன்)  தடாகத்தில் இறங்கி மலர் கொய்யும் வேளையில் குளத்தில் இருந்த முதலை ஒன்று, கஜேந்திரனின் காலைக் கவ்விக் கொண்டது. கஜேந்திரன் தன் வலிமையனைத்தையும் திரட்டித் தன்னை விடுவித்துக்கொள்ள முயற்சித்தது. முதலையும் விடவில்லை.   முதலை, யானையரசனைத் தண்ணீருக்குள் இழுக்கத் தொடங்கியது. தன் வலிமையின்மேல் இருந்த நம்பிக்கையை முழுவதுமாக இழந்துவிட்ட நிலையில், அனைத்துக்கும் மூலகர்த்தாவான பரம்பொருளே கதி என்று, ‘ஆதிமூலமே’ எனப் பெருங்குரலெடுத்து கஜேந்திரன் கூப்பிட்டது.  எம்பெருமான் தன பக்தனை காப்பாற்ற கருட வாகனத்தில் பறந்து வந்து, திருவாழியினால் முதலையின் சிரத்தை அறுத்து, கஜேந்திரனை கைப்பற்றினான். 

மஹாபாரதத்தில் இந்த்ரத்யும்னன் கதை உண்டு.   வைசம்பாயனர்  ஜனமேஜயனிடம் -   " பாண்டவர்களும், முனிவர்களும் மார்க்கண்டேயரிடம், "உம்மைவிட நீண்ட வாழ்நாள்   அருளப்பட்டவர்கள் வேறு யாரேனும் உள்ளனரா?" என கேட்க மார்க்கண்டேயர், "சந்தேகமற நிச்சயம் இருக்கிறார்கள். இந்திரத்யும்னன் என்ற பெயர்படைத்த ஒரு அரசமுனி, அறம் குறைந்ததால், "எனது சாதனைகள் அனைத்தும் தொலைந்தன" என்று கதறியவாறு சொர்க்கத்தில் இருந்து விழுந்தான். மார்க்கண்டேயனிடத்திலே என்னை அறிவாயா என கேட்க,   மார்கண்டேயனும்  அவனிடம்  "இமயமலையில் பிராவாரகர்ணன் என்ற ஒரு ஆந்தை வாழ்கிறது. அது என்னைவிட முதிர்ந்தது. அது உன்னை அறிந்திருக்கலாம் என உரைக்க  இந்திரத்யும்னன் குதிரையாக மாறி, அந்த ஆந்தை வாழுமிடத்திற்கு செல்ல அந்த ஆந்தை, "இந்திரத்யும்னம் என்ற பெயரில் ஒரு தடாகம் இருக்கிறது. அந்தத் தடாகத்தில் நாதீஜங்கம் என்ற பெயரில் ஒரு கொக்கு வசிக்கிறது. அது எங்களை விட முதிர்ந்தது, நீர் அதனிடம் கேட்கலாம்" என்றது.  கொக்கு   "இதே தடாகத்திலேயே வசிக்கும் அகூபாரம் என்ற பெயர் கொண்ட ஆமை   என்னைவிட வயது  முதிர்ந்தது என்றது.    ஆமை சிறிது நேரம் சிந்தித்து நான் இவரை அறிவேன். வேள்வி நெருப்புக் கிண்டப்படும்போது ஆயிரம் முறை வேள்விக்குச்சிகளை   இவன் இங்கு நட்டிருக்கிறான். வேள்வியின் முடிவில் இவன் அந்தணர்களுக்குத் தானமளித்த பசுக்களின் குளம்படிகளால் தோண்டப்பட்டதே இத்தடாகம். நான் அதுமுதல் இங்கேயே வாழ்கிறேன்  என்றது.  இது வயதையோ ஒரு மனிதனையே நினனவு கூறும் சாதாரண கதையல்ல.   அறச் செயல்கள் உலகத்தில் பரவி பல காலம் நீடித்து இருக்கும்.  தீச்செயல்கள் செய்தவர்கள் அதன் பயனாக  கடின தாழ்ந உலகங்களிலேயே நீடிப்பார்கள் என்ற அறக்கதை

யானையானது பலம் பொருந்தியது.  கஜேந்திரன் யானைகளின் தலைவன்.  காற்சங்கிலியை முறித்துக் கையிற்கொண்டு பதறியோடுந் தன்மையதான மதயானையானது  விசாலமாயிருந்த பொய்கையிலே  மலர்ந்து ஓங்கியிருக்கிற அழகிய தாமரைப் பூவை (எம்பெருமானுக்கு ஸமர்ப்பிப்பதற்காக)க் கையிற் கொண்டுவர தடாகத்தில் இறங்கிய நிலையிலே கரா எனும் முதலையின்   வாயிலகப்பட்டு விடுவித்துக் கொள்ள முடியாத  பெருந்துன்பமுண்டாக, ஐயகோ - செவ்வியழிவதற்கு முன்னே இந்த மலர்களை எம்பெருமானுக்கு ஸமர்ப்பிக்க முடியாமற் போய் விடுமோவென்று  மனம் பதறி, தேவாதிதேவனை துதிக்க,   திருவாழியைக் கையிலேந்தின எம்பெருமானுடைய திருவடிகளை (தியானித்து) வணங்கியதனாலன்றோ அந்த கஜேந்திரம்  தேவாதி தேவனுடைய இருப்பிடமான பரமபதத்தை  அடைந்தது.  நாமும் மனமுருகி அவ்வெம்பெருமானை துதித்தால் உடனே வந்து நம்மை காப்பற்றுவான் நம் ஸ்ரீமந்நாரணன் என உரைக்கிறார்  ஸ்ரீபூதத்தாழ்வார்

Sree Seetharama Temple @ Ayodhya Nagar - Thiruvananthapuram

 There have been popular maps of India -  road map, river, density of population, States of India, climate, Railways, Flood, earthquake zone, annual rainfall, natural resources and the like.  The recent one that everyday people have started looking into is – Covid 19 map !!

With 48,661 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day, India's Covid-19 tally climbed to 13,85,522 today, while the recoveries rose  to 8,85,576, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The country's death toll rose to 32,063 with 705 fatalities being recorded in a day, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Going by the nos. affected – the top 5 are : Maharashtra (366368); Tamil Nadu (206737); Delhi (129531); Karnataka (90942); Andhra Pradesh (88671).  By the no. of deaths – it is : Maharashtra (13389); Delhi (3806); Tamil Nadu (3409), Gujarat (2300) and Karnataka (1796) .. .. these are pure statistics and would reveal the way you look at them – in terms of nos affected !; nos recovered; deaths – and there are varying parameters – the % of population as to the National population :  Uttar Pradesh 16.51%; Maharashtra 9.28%; Tamil Nadu 5.96%; Kerala 2.76% and Delhi 1.39%   ~ that way Uttar Pradesh cases of 63742 from population of 199,812,341 is 0.0319% - whereas Delhi’s 129531 of 16,787,941 is 0.772%

Yet the media had portrayed certain States to be bad, while a couple of States most notably Kerala and Delhi were appreciated by one and all, especially foreign media – led by BBC.   As soon as the Centre raised an alert against coronavirus in January, Kerala Health Department initiated a series of proactive measures like quarantining all persons who recently traveled to affected regions like China as well as those who came in close contact with them. Such measures were hailed in the Press.

Kerala state on Wednesday reported 1,038 Covid-19 cases, its first-ever single-day tally above 1,000, taking the total cases reported to 15,032 as chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government was seriously considering the option of going for another lockdown. With 12 wards in the capital city being declared as containment zones, police have closed many of the roads. Thampanoor, Poundkadavu, Chalai, Karamana, Thycaud, Kunnukuzhi, Kowdiar, Muttada, Pattom, Ulloor, Cheruvaikal and Kazhakootam are the new containment zones. The police have barricaded all roads leading to these wards.

Another perspective, till now there was a combined state, which is no split into Andhra Pradesh & Telengana and if you add their numbers, it is worrying.  In the last one week, Andhra Pradesh has contributed more number of novel Coronavirus cases than any other state in India, except Maharashtra. The state has added more than 40,000 new patients during this time, which is half of its entire caseload of about 81,000. The explosion of infections in Andhra Pradesh is rather curious. The state was always one of the front-runners in testing, and that means it would have been possible to identify and isolate the infected patients quite early on. In fact, till the end of last month, the state seemed to have a reasonable control over the epidemic.

It gives more peace of mind in not reading these media focused news and statistics and better not to open messages in social media dishing out daily tally, and remedies of chasing Corona.  .. .. strange are the ways of people.  Though lengthy, this is no post on Covid 19 or on the States handling it – it is of a small beautiful temple, where I was fortunate to have darshan in Dec 2018 at Thiruvananthapuram.

அந்தமில் புகழ் அனந்தபுர நகர் ஆதி தன்னை ~ என சுவாமி நம்மாழ்வாரால் புகழ்ப்பெற்ற திவ்யதேசம் மலைநாட்டு ஸ்தலமான 'திருவனந்தபுரம்’.

For   Srivaishnavaites, abodes of Sriman Narayana, more importantly those sung by Alwars, those temples visited by Acaryas, places where they lived, places associated with them are of utmost importance .. .. .. ‘  there are divyadesams which  impresses by their sheer big size and their association with yore.  One such divyadesam is the Thiruvananthapuram ~ the magnificent abode of Sri Padmanabha Swami, situate in modern day Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala.

The origin of the Temple of Sree Padmanabhaswamy is lost in antiquity. It is not possible to determine with any exactitude, from any reliable historical documents or other sources as to when and by whom the original idol of Sree Padmanabhaswamy was consecrated. The Temple has references in Epics and Puranas. Srimad Bhagavatha says that Balarama visited this Temple, bathed in Padmatheertham and made several offerings. Nammalwar, has sung  ten hymns in praise of Lord Padmanabha.  It inspires awe as one has darshan through the 3 doors of the Emperuman Sree Ananthapadmanabhan in reclining posture.  The divine  atmosphere can only be felt – cannot be brought out in words.  

At Thiruvananthapuram nearer this great temple is a temple of Sree Lakshmi Varaha Swami.  Just in front of this temple is a beautiful temple ‘Sree Seetharama Temple” popularly Ayodhya nagar temple.  Inside this temple, there are sannathies of Lord Seetha Rama with Lakshmana & Aanjaneya, Lord Ganesha, Radha Krishna, Rukmini sametha Panduranga.

The temple glorifies nama sankeerthanam – chanting Bhagwan Namam as the easiest means of reaching Him.  There are beautiful sculptures of Valmiki, Purandaradhasar,  Sree Krishna Chaitanyar, Thukaram, Sengalipuram Anantharama deekshithar, Poonthanam namboodiri, Maharaja Swati Thirunal, Carnatic Music trinity and others.  The divine presence of sathgurus who had dedicated their life in namapracharanam inspires visitors to chant Bhagwan namam.  This campus known as Ayodhya nagar has become a popular place of Nama sankeerthana satsangams.

Next time you visit Thiruvananthapuram, you can reach this place by auto from nearer the Ananthapadmanabaswami temple.   The Garudan installed at the street in front of  Varahaswami temple is mesmerizingly majestic.

July 2020 is drawing to a close ! ~ from Mar 24, the Nation is under lockdown – what will happen from 1st Aug.  The situation has not improved at all.  Some of us have remained at home abiding by the Govt regulations, but vast majority of population as seen in Chennai is out there on the roads, crowding everywhere and the nos. are going up, up and up.

India has seen a daily spurt of 48,916 coronavirus cases. The total count now stands at 1,339,067. The current death toll is at 31,425. At least half of India’s population is under various types of lockdowns — full, partial or weekend. States such as Bihar, Sikkim, Nagaland are under a complete lockdown; West Bengal has announced a two-day lockdown every week, and states like Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have opted for weekend lockdowns.

Tamil Nadu recorded its biggest single-day spike of 6,785 which took its tally to 199,749. Maharashtra's Covid-19 tally has risen to 357,117, with 9,615 fresh cases on Friday. Miles away, three professors at the University of Southampton school of medicine have this week made a “major breakthrough” in the treatment of coronavirus patients and become paper millionaires at the same time.  Almost two decades ago professors Ratko Djukanovic, Stephen Holgate and Donna Davies discovered that people with asthma and chronic lung disease lacked a protein called interferon beta, which helps fight off the common cold. They worked out that patients’ defences against viral infection could be boosted if the missing protein were replaced. The academics created a company, Synairgen, to turn their discoveries into treatments. It floated on the stock market in 2004, but a deal with AstraZeneca to treat viral infections in asthmatics fell through, and the shares collapsed.  As soon as the clinical trial results were published, on the morning of 21 July, the shares spiked, and by lunchtime had risen by 540%. Djukanovic, aged 65, a professor of medicine, saw his 0.56% stake in the company jump in value in one day from about £300,000 to £1.6m. The 0.59% stake held by Holgate, 73, a professor of immunopharmacology, rose to £1.7m. It is understood that Davies, aged 67, the third founder and a professor of respiratory cell and molecular biology, holds a similar-sized stake through a separate company.

When people are out, masks are compulsory - different types of mask offer different levels of protection. Gadyatrayam, ‘the three prose pieces’ of Swami Bhagavad Ramanuja  emphasizes  bakthi and saranagati as the surest means to attain salvation.  He easily achieved the arduous task of refuting the mayavadins who denied all attributes to the Supreme and establish Sriman  Narayana with the most adorable form, name, auspicious qualities, aisvarya and more.  Sri Vaikundagadyam believed to have been composed by him, when he was in Melkote, reveals his yearning to reach the Lord and serve Him.

Our Acaryar Swami Manavalamamunigal says :  “I salute the Emperor of Sanyasis – Swami Ramanuja (Yathipathi !) who had immense vathsalyam for the lotus feet of Swami Nammalwar and our Swami Ramanuja chased away  the blemishes of those who took refuge under his feet.   In his beautiful slokam Yathiraja vimsathi, Varavaramunigal connects Acarya parampara from NumPerumal down to Kurathazhwan, the dear disciple of Ramanuja.  Mamunigal ascribes his devotion to the feet of Ramanuja saying ‘parankusa pada baktham’ – Udayavar’s attachment to the feet of Swami Nammalwar.  For us Acaryar is the chief preceptor and saviour who will lead us to the ultimate salvation by taking us near Emperuman.

A great day today  (24.7.2020) ~ the concluding day of Andal Uthsavam – Thiruvadipuram.  இன்று 'திருவாடிப்பூரம்,' மிகச் சிறந்த நன்னாள் !   AT Thiruvallikkeni, thirumanjanam of Sri Andal and Sri Parthasarathi took place this morning occurred and through live streaming all were able to have darshan. One’s heart cries in not being able to have darshan of Emperuman – all thirukovils have been closed from 20.3.2020 in the State but in the morning there was an announcement of another religious function occurring and this was made in the presence of Dist Collector and Police High Official – all in the Secular state.

க்ஷணகாலமும் பிரியமாட்டாமல் நிக்தியாநுபவம் பண்ணிக் கொண்டு இருப்பவர்கள் நித்யஸூரிகள்.  திவ்யதேசங்களிலே வாசம் செய்வோர் அனுதினமும் எம்பெருமான் சேவை  கிடைக்கப்பெற்றவர்கள்.  கொரோனா எனும் தீ நுண்மி அனைவரையும் பரிதவிக்க செய்துவிட்டது.  திருக்கோவில்கள் மூடி உள்ளன.  எம்பெருமானை சேவிக்கும் வாய்ப்பு இல்லை.

It is yet to sink in ~ we feel as if it was just yesterday.  2020 started well with Irapathu Uthsavam, then came Pongal, Ekkadu Thangal, Masi Magam, Ratha Sapthami, Theppothsavam, Thavana Uthsavam of Sri Parthasarathi, Sri Varadhar and Sri Azhagiya Singar and that was to be the last purappadu.   On day 1  there was morning purappadu to Dhavana Uthsava Bungalow, Azhagiya Singar  had Thirumanjanam; evening purappadu inside the bungalow and at around 0630 pm periya mada veethi, kulakkarai purappadu back to sannathi; second day He rushed back to His sannathi in the evening and on day 3 – no morning purappadu.  Evening after a brief halt at Thavana Uthsava bungalow, periya mada veethi purappadu was completed – the next scheduled purappadu was Ekadasi [also Thiruvonam] on 20.3.2020 – it did not happen.  Sadly, Temples were ordered to be closed – whole Nation went  under lockdown.  From thence on  there have been no purappadu and we have already missed out Pallava Uthsavam, Sree Rama Navami, Brahmothsavams of Sri Parthasarathi & Azhagiya Singar, Varadhar uthsavam, Nammalwar uthsavam, Vasantha, Kodai Uthsavams, and now Thiruvadippuram uthsavam. 

We are yearning to have darshan of Him and partake in purappadus at divyadesams.  Let us keep our faith and pray to Emperuman for all good things for this Universe and for Ourselves.  While the Corona and the precautions to be undertaken are well and truly understood, please step outside, walk on the road to see how ‘the lockdown’ is .. .. In Triplicane, it appears that all shops are open – be it vegetable market or any other shop in Barathiyar Salai or Triplicane High road – you see crowds everywhere – some with masks, some sporting it as if a garland around neck ! .. .. no social distancing as people would brush one another when picking up vegetables – wonder why many of them venture out and buy them daily .. ..

The relaxation has been given or taken for everything else – only Metro, EMU, MRTS trains and Transport Corporation buses are not running – with Public transportation not on, most have stayed away from their offices – otherwise it appears normal way of life but you turn any TV channel, read any newspaper or browse social media – everyone tries to reel out statistics of Corona victims, how it is affecting the people and every WA Research Analyst dishes out medicinal remedies and precautions one should take .. only for others  !!

We pray to Emperuman that all pains and fears of Covid 19 become a thing of the past, the World recovers sooner and we are able to continue our normal life, having darshan of Sri Parthasarathi and other Emperumans daily.
