Today (28.2.2025) is day 2 of Theppothsavam at Thiruvallikkeni. Something on ‘Collinear!!’ Those who do not want to read tidbits – can straight move to the last para.
Sometimes on the same axis, three or more points may lie on a single straight line !!
Adjective Linear would mean : arranged in or extending along a straight or nearly straight line. Linear motion is one dimensional motion along straight line.
Collinear refers to a set of points or objects that lie on the same straight line. In other words, collinear points or objects are aligned in a linear fashion, with no deviations or curves. The key traits would be : those points lie on the same straight line; are aligned in a linear fashion with no curves or bends; no intersections and extend in the same direction, with no changes in direction.
Examples of collinear points or objects include:
- Three points on a ruler
- A row of books on a shelf
- A line of people waiting in a queue
- A series of points on a graph that form a straight line.
In geometry, Collinearity of a set of points is the property of their lying on a single line. A set of points with this property is said to be Collinear. In Euclidean geometry this relation is intuitively visualized by points lying in a row on a "straight line". However, in most geometries - a line is typically a primitive (undefined) object type, so such visualizations will not necessarily be appropriate.
Three or more points - are said to be collinear if they lie on a
single straight line. A line on which
points lie, especially if it is related to a geometric figure such as a
triangle, is sometimes called an axis.
A pic of Sri Parthasarathi Perumal theppam – Theppam with
Perumal inside – its kudai, Neerazhi mandapam and Thirukkovil Gopuram are in
straight line. Look forward to your comments on this post/photo !!
