A powerful message from   Alwar.  What should one do in this World without whiling away time ~ other than chanting the names of Sriman Narayana, the only Saviour who is worshipped in the famed Thiruvarangam Periyakoil. It is He (in Ramavathar) parted the Ocean with a single bow and relieved the World of its trouble by killing the Rakshas chief in the battle.  Just chant His names all the time.

~ the introductory lines to his prabandham Thirumalai by  Thiruvaranga Perumal Araiyar.  ஸ்ரீ திருவரங்கப் பெருமாள் அரையர் ஸ்வாமி அருளிச் செய்த தனியன்:   

தமிழ் ஒரு இனிய மொழி.  நம் ஆழ்வார்களோ  அந்த அமிழ்தில் திளைத்தவர்கள்.  இங்கே வண்டு  திணர்த்த வயல் என்றதும் வண்டுகள் நிறைந்து இருக்கும் கழனிகள் என போறும் சூழற்க்க ;  திணர்த்தல் என்றால் -  நெருக்கமாதல் ; கனமாகப் படிந்திருத்தல்.  இதன்படியே - வண்டல் மண் கனமாகப் படிந்து அதிலே  வளமான பயிர்கள் விளையும் வயல்கள் சூழ்ந்த திருவரங்கத்தில் எழுந்தருளி இருக்கும் அரங்கநாதப் பெருமானை துயிலெழுப்பப் பாடல்கள் அருளவே (ஒரு சூரியன் போல) ஒளியோடு தோன்றிய, நிலைபெற்ற பெருமை வாய்ந்த, தொண்டரடிப்பொடியாழ்வார் அவதரித்த பழமையான தலம் திருமண்டங்குடி என்று நான்மறையாளர்கள் பகர்வர்.

இன்று மன்னிய சீர் மார்கழியில் கேட்டை திருநக்ஷத்திரம்.   சோழநாட்டில் திருமண்டங்குடி என்ற சிற்றூரில் பராபவ வருடம், மார்கழி மாதம், கேட்டை நட்சத்திரத்தில்  பெருமானின் வைஜயந்தி வனமாலையின் அம்சமாகக் கருதப்படும் தொண்டரடிப்பொடி ஆழ்வார் அவதரித்த தினம்,   ஆழ்வார் சாற்றுமுறை இன்று :   முதல் ஆயிரத்தில் திருமாலை 45 பாசுரங்களும் திருப்பள்ளியெழுச்சி 11-ம் பாடியுள்ளார். எளிய தமிழில் உள்ளத்தைக் கொள்ளை கொள்ளும் பாசுரங்கள் தொண்டரடிப் பொடியுடையவை. இவர் பாடிய  தலங்கள் ~ : திருவரங்கமும்  நாம் பார்க்க முடியாத பரமபதமும்.  

தொண்டரடிப்பொடி என்பது ஒரு வகையான புனைபெயர். வைணவ மரபில் பகவானின் அடியார்களின் திருவடிகளின் தூசுகூட புனிதமானது என்கிற நம்பிக்கையின் அதீத வடிவமாக தொண்டரடிப்பொடி என வைத்துக் கொண்டார்.  இவரது இயற்பெயர் விப்ர நாராயணன்.  திவ்ய பிரபந்தத்தில் பிறிதோர் இடத்தில கூட 'இப் பாததூளி படுதலால் இவ்வுலகம் பாக்கியம் செய்ததே' என்று வருகிறது.  அனுதினமும் காலை எல்லா திவ்ய தேசங்களிலும் எம்பெருமானை பள்ளி எழுப்பும், திருப்பள்ளியெழுச்சி இவரது பாசுரம். 

The great saint by name Vipra Narayanar, born at Thirumandankudi also known as Bhaktanghri renu later came to be hailed as  ‘Thondaradippodi Alvar’ due to his devotion to the devotees of Lord. Thondaradipodi rendered 55 verses in praise of Lord Ranganatha - 10 verses of Thirupalli Yezhuchi and 45 verses of Thiru Maalai. Thirupalliyezhuchi is recited in every temple to wake up the Lord and rendered during kalasanthi in the morning.  Here is a pasuram from his Thirumalai : 

ஊரிலேன் காணியில்லை உறவு மற்றொருவரில்லை

பாரில்நின் பாதமூலம் பற்றிலேன் பரம மூர்த்தி

காரொளி வண்ணனே என் கண்ணனே கதறுகின்றேன்

ஆருளர்க் களைகணம்மா அரங்கமா நகருளானே. 

Thondaradipodi Azhwar in his emotive address to Lord Ranganatha laments his misfortune of not having born in divyadesams; has no relatives, nothing to claim for and have acquaintance with the place of the Lord.  Oh Lord of dark radiance, I have not even secured your feet – I scream and call your names and there can be none other that the Great Lord of Thiruvarangam ~ Lord Ranganatha who owns the Universe and resides at Srirangam (described as ‘Arangamaanagar’) who can protect me… 

                           Thondaradippodi Aazhwar  immersed in bakthi sung everyday to wake up the Lord.  He sang about Thiruvarangam  and Paramapatham.  Thondaradippodi Alvar was born as Vipra Narayanar  in a small village by name 'Thiru mandangudi' in Prabhava year, Margazhi month, Krishna chaturthi, in Kettai (Jyestha) Nakshatram (star).   This Thirumandangudi is in Chozha nadu near Kumbakonam,  the nearest landmark being Thiruvarooran sugars factory.   

            At this place, Lord Ranganatha is seen in a rare standing posture.  Azhwar dedicated himself to serving the God at Thiruvarangam and sought darshan of the Supreme Lord Ranganatha – who yielded by providing him a special standing darshan.  It would appear that the same Lord Ranganatha of Sri Rangam has just stood up to provide darshan to His devotees here.  Here at Mandangudi, we have Lord Ranganatha in a standing posture alongwith Sridevi and Bhumadevi.  The Uthsavar is Azhagiya Manavalar. There is separate sannadhi for the Thayar also.

Tailpiece :  ** Thiru Arooran Sugars Ltd was incorporated in 1954, setting up a sugar factory at Vadapathimangalam, Thanjavur with crushing capacity of 1200 tonnes fo cane per day.  In 1990, they expanded their crushing capacity setting up a new mill at Thirumandangudi, Papanasam Taluk, Thanjavur.   Things are not well as the factory accumulated huge losses and in recent times sugarcane farmers have been on protest seeking Govt intervention on disbursal of pending dues totaling several crores.

 

Universal Friendship Day .. ........ Sudamapuri !!

IMP Pre-scripts :  1)  Today in some ways is ‘Friendship day’.  Friendship Day celebrates the bonds of friendship, officially recognized by the UN on July 30th, but celebrated in countries like India, the US, and Bangladesh on the first Sunday of August (August 3rd in 2025).

 

2. some of you may frown why something on Cricket on this religious post.  In 1932, Indian Cricket team toured England marking their Test debut, a crowd of some 25,000, and a fast pitch, greeted the Indians in their first Test match, an event, we believe, of more than mere cricketing importance. The most famous ground in the world, enriched as it is by long years of high tradition, was looking its best with its own particular atmosphere when the Indians having lost the toss went out to field. And what a series of shocks they gave us Sutcliffe, Holmes, and Woolley out for 19 runs in 20 minutes ! India however lost the Test by 158 runs   

3.  18.12.2019 was a blessed day ~ we visited Porbandar.  Little did we realise the significance of the place  Sudhamapuri ! and more of the day ! .. .. it is our good luck.

அவல் :  நெல்லை ஊறவைத்து, இடித்து, அதிலிருந்து உமியை நீக்கி அவலாகப் பயன்படுத்துகிறோம். கைக்குத்தல் முறையில் தயாரிக்கப்படும் அவலில் ஊட்டச்சத்துகள் ஏராளம். அரிசியின் நிறம், வகையைப் பொறுத்து அவலின் நிறத்திலும் ஊட்டச்சத்திலும் மாற்றங்கள் ஏற்படும். வெள்ளை மற்றும் சிவப்பு அவலைத்தான் நாம் பெரும்பாலும் பயன்படுத்துகிறோம்.

 

Porbandar is known to us all as the birthplace of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.  Onshore explorations in and around Porbandar brought to light the remains of a late Harappan settlement dating back to the 16th-14th centuries BCE. There is evidence to suggest that the Harappan legacy of maritime activity continued till the late Harappan period on the Saurashtra coast. The discovery of ancient jetties along the Porbandar creek signifies the importance of Porbandar as an active center of maritime activities in the past.   

Porbandar was the seat of the eponymous princely state in British India. In ancient times Porbandar was known to be Pao Bandar, due to its bread factories that used to export Pao ruti to Arab nations across Arabian sea.  Later the state belonged to the Jethwa clan of Rajputs.  The state was subordinate to the Mughal governor of Gujarat until being overrun by the Marathas in the latter half of the 18th century. After, they came under the authority of the Gaekwad court at Baroda and eventually of the Peshwa. 

All these would pale to insignificance, when we know the important of this place having connection of Lord Sri Krishna and the legend of his friendship.  In Tamil, we know him as Kuchelar – he is Sudama, a Brahmin childhood friend of Sri Krishna.   Sudama was poor ! ~ his father  was Matuka and his mother was Rochana Devi.  His fortune was his friendship with Lord in his early days.  Sri Krishna  the Supreme God later was ruling  the nearby Dwaraka, while Kuchela’s life was entwined to abject poverty.   His wife Niyati reminded him of his friendship with Krishna and egged him to go and meet the Lord for help. Incidentally, the image of  Kuchela perhaps is far different that what is depicted here at Sudamapuri.

 

Sudama was reluctant but eventually went to meet him. In his state of affairs, he could not afford any good gift, but remembered the liking of his bosom friend to - அவல்  - ‘aval’ (poha / beaten rice) – and he took  some aval in a cloth as a present.   Lord Krishna whose manifestation was to prove so many things to this World, seized this opportunity to prove His quality of approving friends, irrespective of their stature.  Krishna & His consort Rukmani  received Sudaama and treated him so royally – with Lord partaking little bit of aval,  all the troubles of Kuchela started vanishing.    When Sudama finally returned to his home, he found  a palatial mansion instead of the hut he had left. He also found  his family dressed in opulent garb and waiting for him. He still lived  an austere life after that, always thankful to the Lord. It is the price of devotion to Lord. 

It is our religion to submit ourselves completely to the Lord without any expectation – it can never be trading of bakthi, seeking some returns.  Sudama, was poor, had nothing, yet offered ‘aval’ with devotion and his life changed forever.  Lord did not reward him because Sudama was a friend – but he was a sincere, astute, religious person – following the duties cast on him.  

Shri Krishna-Sudama is an immortal example of real, non-materialistic friendship. It is a perpetual symbolic definition of real friendship.  At Porbandar  exists a temple for Sudama - constructed in 1902 and 1907 at the centre of the city.   Built with white marble this temple has a number of carved pillars which decorate the temple, open from all sides this temple has a shikhara which is decorated with splendid architecture and carvings. These carvings are also visible above the pillars and the arches which adjoin the pillars. With such architecture this temple is dedicated to the shrine of Sudama which is built in simple structure. There is a beautiful statue of Lord Sri Krishna embracing Sudama.  The temple has a maze within its complex and it is believed that  if a person crosses this maze all his sins  would be forgiven. 

We were delighted to know the real-life story of ‘Krishna Sudama’ friendship and were fortunate to have darshan on ‘Sudama day’ (18.12.2019) at Dwaraka as also at the temple of Sudama.  Below is the story of Sudama  and the value of friendship with Lord himself, beautifully explained by Gurji Gopalavalli dasar, posted with his permission. There was not much of buzz nor any spoke of the day here at these places but social media carried many posts on Kuchela day and the celebrations elsewhere including Guruvayur.

 

The temple at Sudamapuri seen now was renovated and built by : Maharaja Rana Shri Bhavsinhji Madhavsinhji Sahib Bahadur, the Maharaja of Porbandar belonging to Jethwa dynasty, who ascended the throne of princely state of Porbandar in  1900 and ruled till his death in 1908.

 

#மார்கழி #முதல் #புதன்கிழமை ! (#குசேல_தினம்)* 

ஆமாம் ! சனாதன தர்மத்தில் இன்று (இந்த வருடம் 18.12.2019, புதன்கிழமை) நண்பர்கள் தினம் ! ஏனென்றால் துவாரகையின் ராஜனான க்ருஷ்ணனுக்கும், ஏழ்மையில் வாழ்ந்த சுதாமாவுக்கும் இடையில் இருந்த நட்பு தான், மிகச்சிறந்தது.  

*இன்று #குருவாயூரில் #சுதாமா தினம் (#குசேல தினம் என்று சொல்வார்கள்)*. பகவான் கண்ணனை சுதாமா ஒரு *#மார்கழி மாத, முதல் #புதன்கிழமை* துவாரகையில் சந்தித்தார். இந்த விஷயத்திற்கு புராண பிரமாணங்கள் எனக்குத் தெரிந்தவரை இதுவரை கண்டதில்லை. எங்காவது இருக்கலாம், ஒரு நாள் கண்ணன் பிரமாணம் காட்டித்தருவான். எப்படியாயினும் குருவாயூரில் வருஷாவருஷம் இந்த தினத்தை விசேஷமாகக் கொண்டாடுகின்றதால், வேறு பிரமாணம் அவசியமில்லை.

 

*சுதாமாவின் #மனைவியின் பெயர் #சுசிலா !* ஸ்ரீமத்பாகவதத்தில் சுதாமாவிற்க்கு 27 குழந்தைகள் என்று சொல்லப்படவில்லை. சுதாமா ஏழ்மையை ஆசையாய் ஏற்றார். சுசிலாவும் மனதார ஏழ்மையை ஏற்றாள். ஏழ்மை ஒருவனை எல்லா விதத்திலும் பக்குவப்படுத்துகிறது. நம் மனதில் தெய்வ நம்பிக்கையில் குறை காரணமாக, தரித்திரம் கஷ்டம் என தீர்மானித்துவிட்டோம். *#ஏழ்மையில் #வாழ்வில் #நடப்பதெல்லாம் #நாராயணன் #செயல் என்று ஏற்போம் !* பணம், பதவி, அந்தஸ்து வந்துவிட்டால் எல்லாவற்றையும் மாற்றலாம் என்ற மமதை வந்துவிடும்.  

ஆனாலும் பசி மிகப்பெரிய கொடுமை. பிள்ளைகளின் பசி பெற்றோரை பொய் சொல்லவைக்கும், திருடவும் தூண்டும். ஆனால் சுசிலா இதையெல்லாம் செய்யாமல் கண்ணனை சரணடைந்தாள். சுதாமா பெரிய ஞானி. உடல் கவலை, வாழ்க்கை இவையெல்லாம் கண்ணன் இஷ்டம் என்று விட்டுவிட்டவர். அதனால் அவரால் இதையெல்லாம் பெரியதாக எடுத்துக்கொள்ள முடியவில்லை. *ஏனென்றால் குருகுல வாசத்தில், வேதபுருஷனான கண்ணனோடு வேதம் பயின்றவர். வேதம் கற்று கண்ணனை அடைந்தவர் பலர். ஆனால் #கண்ணனோடு #வேதம் #பயின்றவர் இவர் ஒருவரே !* அப்படிப்பட்டவருக்கு ஏழ்மை வரமன்றோ. நமக்குத்தான் தெய்வம் என்பது ATM கார்ட் மாதிரி, வேண்டியவாறு தரவேண்டும் என்று எதிர்பார்ப்பு. *எல்லோரும் குருவை அடைந்து கண்ணனை அனுபவிப்பர். சுதாமாவோ #கண்ணனோடு #குருவிற்கு சேவை செய்தவர்.*  

சுசிலா தாயாயிற்றே. பிள்ளைகளின் பசி எப்படி பொறுப்பாள் ?!? எப்படியாவது தன் கணவரை ஒரே ஒரு முறை துவாரகா அனுப்பினால், எல்லாம் மாறும் என்று திடமாக நம்பினாள். பல நாள் சுதாமாவிடம் துவாரகா போய்வரச் சொன்னாள். சரியென்று ஒரு நாள் கிளம்பினார். கண்ணனுக்குத் தர ஏதேனும் தா என்றார் சுசிலாவிடம். வீட்டில் ஒன்றுமில்லையே. ஆனாலும் சுசிலா கலங்கவில்லை. அவளுக்கு ஊரார் வைத்த பெயர் க்ஷுத்க்ஷாமா, அதாவது பசியால் இளைத்தவள் என்று அர்த்தம். சுதாமாவிற்கும் பட்டப்பெயர் உண்டு, அதுதான் குசேலர். குசேலன் என்றால் கந்தலாடை உடுத்தியவர் என்று அர்த்தம். சுசிலா அருகிலிருந்த சில வீடுகளில் பிச்சையாக வாங்கினாள் அவலை. *#அவள் வாங்கிய #அவல் தான் சுதாமா கண்ணனிடம் கொண்டு சென்றது.* 

ஒருவழியாக துவாரகா வந்து சேர்ந்தார் சுதாமா.  கண்ணனுக்குத் தன்னை ஞாபக்கப்படுத்த அவரிடம் இருந்த ஒரே அடையாளம் குரு மட்டுமே. *#குருவருள் தானே #திருவருள்.* குருதியானத்தோடு துவாரகா வந்தவரை த்வாரகாதீசன் ஆசையாய் வாசல் வந்து வரவேற்றான், பழைய பால்ய சினேகிதனாகவே. அவரைக் கொண்டாடினான். *#வேதமாதாவின் #திருவடியைப் பிடித்த சுதாமாவின் #திருவடிக்கு வேதபுருஷனான கண்ணனே #பூஜை செய்தான்.* எல்லா சுகமும் கேட்பவர், கண்ணணைப் பூஜிக்கின்றனர். ஏதும் கேட்காத சுதாமாவை, கண்ணனே பூஜித்தான். செல்வம் கேட்பவரைக் கண்டால் கலங்கும் லக்ஷ்மிதேவியான ருக்மிணித் தாயார், இவரையே பக்திச்செல்வத்தின் அதிபதியாய் கண்டாள்.  

கண்ணன், இவர் சொல்லவந்த குருகுல நினைவுகளை, அவன் சொன்னான். தான் ஏதும் மறக்கவில்லை என்று புரியவைத்தான் மாயன். சுதாமா நெகிழ்ந்தார். பேச்சுக்கிடையில் எனக்கு என்ன கொண்டுவந்தாய் என்றான். உயிரைத்தவிர அவர் உடலில் என்ன உண்டு, என்று ருக்மிணி மனதிற்குள் கண்ணைக் கோபித்தாள். ஆயினும் இவன் மனம் உள்ளபடி யாரறிவார். அவனே சொன்னான் " *பத்ரம் புஷ்பம் பலம் தோயம் யோ மே பக்த்யா ப்ரயச்சதி ! ததஹம் பக்த்யுபஹ்ருதம் அஸ்னாமி ப்ரயதாத்மனஹ !!*. அதாவது ஒரு இலையோ, பூவோ, பழமோ ஒரு சொட்டு ஜலமோ, அன்போடு பக்தியாய் தருவதை நான் ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறேன் என்று சத்தியம் செய்து கைநீட்டினான். எல்லோரும் இவனிடம் கைநீட்டி கேட்பர். ஆனால் இவன் கைநீட்டிக் கேட்டது சுதாமாவிடம். ஆனாலும் சுதாமாவிற்கு தயக்கம், இத்தனை பெரிய த்வாரகாதீசனுக்கு இந்த அவலை எப்படிக் கொடுப்பது ?!? ஆனாலும் *அவல் தந்த அவள் மனதால் கண்ணனிடம் சரணடைந்தாள்.* கணவரின் மனமும், போக்கும் மனைவிதானே உள்ளபடி அறிவாள். கண்ணன் அவள் குரல் கேட்டு, இங்கே அவலைப் பறித்தான். எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்தது என்றான் அவள் தந்த ஒருபிடி அவலை வாயில் மென்றபடி. இப்படிக் கண்ணனுக்கு சுசிலா தந்த அவலை சுதாமா கண்ணனுக்கு துவாரகையில் தந்த நாளே, மார்கழி முதல் புதன்கிழமை.

 

ஒரு பிடி அவல், அவள் பக்தியால், ஜோராக ருசிக்க, இன்னொரு பிடி எடுக்க, இங்கே இவள் (ருக்மிணி) போதுமென தடுத்தாள். இவர் பக்தியை செல்வத்தால் அழிக்காதே என்றாள், கண்ணைச் சிமிட்டிச் சிரித்தாள். ஒரு நாள் பொழுது முழுதும் பால்ய குருகுல வாசத்தைப் பேசியே கழித்தான். *ஆனாலும் மனதால் சுசிலாவின் துன்பம் தீர நீங்காத செல்வம் தந்தான். சுதாமாவின் துன்பம் தீர தன்னையே செல்வமாகத் தந்தான்*  

கண்ணன் என்னும் செல்வத்தை சுதாமா பூரணமாக அனுபவித்த தினம் இன்று. கிளம்பும்போது, அவ்வப்போது வா என்றானே ஒழிய கையில் ஒன்றும் தரவில்லை. எல்லாம் மனதாலே தந்துவிட்டானே... கண்ணனை எப்படி தோழனாக அனுபவிப்பது என்று சொல்லிக்கொடுத்தவர் சுதாமா. உடுக்கை இழந்தவன் கைபோல், ஆங்கே இடுக்கண் களைவதாம் நட்பு என்று, சொல்லாமலேயே அருள் செய்த உற்ற தோழன் கண்ணன். 

எல்லோருக்கும் சுதாமா தின வாழ்த்துக்கள். நான் குசேலன் என்று சொல்லமாட்டேன். ஏனென்றால் கண்ணன் சுதாமா என்றே அழைத்தான். ஊராரைப் பொறுத்தமட்டில் அவர் குசேலன். கண்ணனைப் பொறுத்தவரை அவர் என்றுமே அவனின் பிரியமான சுதாமா தான். இந்த நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு பிறகு சுதாமா கண்ணனைப் பார்க்க துவாரகா செல்லவில்லை. சென்றால் இன்னும் ஏதேனும் தந்துவிடுவானோ என்ற பயமே காரணம். இன்று நமக்கு இதை அனுபவிக்க ஒரு வாய்ப்பு தந்தான் குருவாயூரப்பன். விடியற்காலை அப்பம், அவல், பழம் என்று தரவேண்டும் என்று சொல்கிறார்கள். அப்படியெல்லாம் ஒன்றும் இல்லை. ஆனாலும் பரவாயில்லை. எப்படியோ மார்கழியில் விடியற்காலையில் குருவாயூரப்பன் தியானம் செய்வது நல்லதுதானே. 

மனதின் எண்ணங்களே அவல். அப்படியே தருவோம். திருக்கோளூர் பெண்பிள்ளை நம் ஸ்வாமி ராமானுஜரிடம் *அவல் பொரியை ஈந்தேனோ குசேலரைப் போலே* என்றாள் ! *நாமும் பிச்சை எடுத்தோ, கடன் வாங்கியோ இன்று கண்ணனுக்கு அவல் தருவோமா அவளைப் போலே !*

 

குருஜீ கோபாலவல்லிதாஸர்  (18.12.19, குசேல தினம்)

 

குருவாயூரப்பன் கோயிலில் மார்கழி முதல் புதன் கிழமையை குசேலர் தினமாக கொண்டாடுகிறார்கள். கிருஷ்ணன், குசேலருக்கு அனுக்கிரகம் செய்த நாளாதலால் அன்று பக்தர்கள், இலையில் அவல், அச்சு வெல்லக்கட்டி ஆகியவற்றை கொண்டு வந்து குருவாயூரப்பனை வணங்குவது வழக்கம். அன்று கோயிலில் பக்தர்கள் படிக்கணக்கில் அவல் தானம் செய்கின்றனர். குசேலர், கிருஷ்ணனை தரிசிக்க ஆவலுடன் , அவல் கொண்டு சென்ற நாள் , மார்கழி மாதம் முதல் புதன் கிழமை. அதனால் , இன்றும் குருவாயூரி்ல் , மார்கழி முதல் புதன் கிழமையை , குசேலர் தினமாக கொண்டாடுகின்றனர். பக்தர்களும் , குருவாயூரப்பனுக்கு அவல் கொண்டு வந்து காணிக்கையாக தருவர். இதனால் , தங்களுக்கு , ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் அருள் புரிந்து , அவரவர் வீட்டுக்கு சுபிக்ஷம் வந்து சேரும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை.

PS  :  1)  ‘Kuselan’ starring Rajnikant was an adaptation, amended to suit Tamil audience by its director P. Vasu. A remake of the Malayalam film Kadha Parayumbol (2007), it had Rajnikanth, Pasupathi, Meena and Vadivelu. The film was simultaneously made in Telugu as Kathanayakudu.  The plot revolves around a villager, who had shared a strong friendship with a popular cinema actor in his youth.

2) The temple at Sudamapuri (Porbandar) was renovated by Rana of Porbandar in 1903.  

Maharaja Rana Shri Bhavsinhji Madhavsinhji Sahib Bahadur (  1867 –  1908) was the Maharaja of Porbandar belonging to Jethwa dynasty, who ascended the throne of princely state of Porbandar on 15 September 1900 and ruled till his death in 1908.    Rana of Porbandar  got  connected to Bhavnagar through marriage to a daughter of HH Maharaja Raol Shri Takhatsinhji Jaswantsinhji of Bhavnagar in 1902. This union, often noted as to Kumari Shri Ramba Sahiba from Bhavnagar's Gohil dynasty, forged ties between the Jethwa rulers of Porbandar and Gohil rulers of Bhavnagar.  

Porbandar and Bhavnagar were key princely states under British India.  The Indian cricket team toured England in the 1932 season under the title of "All-India’ was captained by the Maharaja of Porbandar.   India had just been granted the status of ICC Full Member and they played their inaugural Test match at Lord's in June. It was the only Test arranged on this tour and England won by 158 runs after scoring 259 and 275/8d in the two innings while India were bowled out for 189 and 187. 

Lieutenant-Colonel Maharaja Rana Shri Sir Natwarsinhji Bhavsinhji Sahib Bahadur, KCSI (  1901 –   1979) was the last Maharaja of Porbandar, the only son of Maharaja Rana Shri Bhavsinhji Madhavsinhji Sahib  , Rana Sahib of Porbandar,    was picked to captain the All-India side on their first major tour of England in 1932 when the Maharaja of Patiala had to withdraw through illness. It was considered necessary for a prince to lead the side, and so Porbandar was appointed.  He however did not play in that inaugural test and handed over  the captaincy for India's first Test to C.K. Nayudu.

திருவரங்கம் தொடங்கி அனைத்து ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவ திவ்யதேசங்களிலும் 'அத்யயன உத்சவம் சிறப்பாக நடந்து வருகிறது. சென்ற ஞாயிறு (9.12.18) நீர்வண்ணன் நீர்மலை என பாடப்பெற்ற திருநீர்மலை திவ்யதேசத்தில் பெரியாழ்வார் திருமொழி கோஷ்டியில் அந்வயிக்கும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது. 

பொதுவாகவே அதிகம் கூட்டம் இல்லாத திருக்கோவில்களில் கைங்கர்யம் செய்வது மேலும் கடினம் ~ஆனால் இதுபோன்ற இடங்களிலே பட்டர்களும், அத்யாபகர்களும் இதர கைங்கர்யபரர்களும் முழுமையான ஈடுபாட்டுடன் எவ்வித பிரதிபலனும் எதிர்பாராது தங்களை அற்பணித்துக்கொண்டுள்ளதை காண முடியும்.

திருநீர்மலை திவ்யதேசத்திலே ஆழ்வார்கள் ஆசார்யர்கள் எழுந்து அருளி இருக்க, ஸ்ரீ ரங்கநாதர் மிக அழகான சாற்றுப்படியுடன் வீற்றிருக்க மதியம் அருளிச்செயல் கோஷ்டி. நிதானமாக நன்றாக நடந்தது. 

மண்டபத்தின் முன்பே அமர்ந்திருந்த ஆண்டாள் கோஷ்டியும் ~ மிக அழகாக கோஷ்டி சேவிப்பதை ரசித்ததுடன், தாங்களும் கூட சேவித்தனர். ஆச்சர்யம் என்னவெனில், அதில் சிலர் புத்தகம் இல்லாமல், சற்று கடினமான பெரியாழ்வார் திருமொழி பத்துகளை - அவ்வளவு அனுபவித்து அழகாக கூறியது எனக்கு மிக்க வியப்பு.

 

நிச்சயமாக எம்பெருமான், ஆழ்வார்கள், ஆசார்யர்கள், ஜீயர் அருள்தான் - அவர்களது நிர்ஹேதுக க்ருபைதான்.

அருளிச்செயல் ஓதிய அவர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் அடியேனின் பணிவான நமஸ்காரங்கள்.

பின் குறிப்பு : கவலை பாயாமல் அழகாக சேவித்த ஒரு மாமியின் புகைப்படம் அழகாக வந்துள்ளது. எனினும் பிறகு அவரிடம் பேசிக்கொண்டு இருந்தபோது, அம்மங்கார் தன்னை தனியாக போட வேண்டாம் என்று கருத்து தெரிவித்ததால், ஒரு பொது புகைப்படம் மட்டுமே இங்கே !!
