Andal Godadevi thirukkalyanam at Vijayawada

Some places carry a wrong perception, primarily for the way they are portrayed in movies.  The temple city of Madurai is often portrayed in Tamil movies as violent city with gangsters walking with ‘aruvals’ clutched behind their necks inside their white shirts !  .. .. Vijayawada is another one !  “Bezjawada” produced by Ram Gopal varma and directed by Vivek Krishna hit the screens in 2011 and did not do all that well –  this Telegu film  was on  the Vijayawada Gang Warfare, featuring Naga Chaitanya and Amala Paul in the lead roles.  Later it was dubbed in Hindi as Hero: The Action Man   and also in Tamil as Vikram Dhadha.  No filmy review this ! 

In some legends, Vijayawada  is  referred to as Rajendracholapura as Virarajendra Chola won a battle against Chalukyas in 1068 and ruled over this place. The reason for the city acquiring the name Bezawada is that Goddess Krishnaveni (River Krishna) requested Arjuna to make a passage for her to merge into the Bay of Bengal. Arjuna made a bejjam (hole) through the mountains and the place came to be known as Bejjamwada which later changed to Bezawada. Other names of Vijayawada were being Vijayavata, Beejapuram, Kanakaprabha, Kanakapuram, Kanakawada, Jayapuri, Vijayapuri, Phalguna Kshetram and Jananathpura.   Bezawada (as Vijayawada was known then) was founded around 626 A.D. by Paricchedi Kings.   Bezawada (Vijayawada) was ruled by King Madhava Varma (one of the kings of Vishnukundina dynasty). Chinese Buddhist scholar Xuanzang stayed a few years in Bezawada around 640 A.D. to  study the Abhidhamma Pitaka. In the early 16th century, during the reign of Qutb Shahi dynasty (Golconda Sultanate), diamond mines were found near Vijayawada on the banks of Krishna River.  

Any traveller via Vijayawada cannot miss Prakasam barrage – over river Krishna. River Krishna,  is the fourth longest river which flows entirely in India, after the Ganges, Godavari and Narmada. One for sure would love to stand near the gate and view the  long bridge on this river nearer Bejawada [Vijayawada station].  Krishna River  flows  about 1,400 kilometres (870 mi), originating  at Mahabaleswar near the Jor village in  Satara District, Maharashtra  and meets  Bay of Bengal at Hamasaladeevi  in Andhra Pradesh, flowing through Karnataka before entering Andhra.  The delta of this river is one of the most fertile regions in India and was the home to ancient Satavahana and Ikshvaku Sun Dynasty kings.   

Earlier known as Bezawada, Vijayawada is a Commercial city with a hot climate – you can feel the heat as the train enters this region ~ Indian Railways has assigned the station code - "BZA".  This politically active city is well connected by road, air and more specifically by rail.  It is a major Railway junction located in South Central Railway.  Trains from Tamilnadu towards Hyderabad pass through ~ trains to Howrah & beyond; the National Capital and beyond – all   pass through this Junction.  The station has 10 platforms and is one of the busiest with more than 250 express and 150 freight trains passing through it.  The station was constructed in 1888 when the Southern Maharatta Railway's main eastward route was connected with other lines going through Vijayawada. By some accounts, an average of 70,000 people board different trains each day and an equal number of commuters exit trains at the station. 

 

Vijayawada is a holy town – with the famous temple of Sri Kanaka Durgamma of Goddess Durga – Pushkaram on river Krishna occurs here once in 12 years.  It is also called Vijayavatika (land of victory in Telegu) where Goddess Durgamma killed demon Mahisashura, and resting at Indrakeeladri hill by the river side – establishing victory of good over evil and providing boons to all devotees.  

Moving away from all negativity -   Bhogi  is a special day ... at Thiruvallikkeni, it marks Thirukkalyanam of Goda devi Andal with Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman.  On Panguni uthiram, thirukkalyanam   ‘Gadhya thrayam’ of Emperumanar Ramanujar is recited  before the divya dhampathigal. 

Poranki village is located in Penamaluru Tehsil of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh, India.  It is a known locality of Vijayawada in NTR district of Andhra.  Bhadrinath swami once visited Thiruvallikkeni a couple of years ago and has been in touch with me since.  He is doing kainkaryam at  : Sri Sri Sri kodanda Rama Swamy temple , poranki village, Vijayawada city, Andhra Pradesh -521137.

 In earlier days, puranic and religious stories were being filmed.  Andal Thirukkalyanam was a Tamil film released in  1937 by Saradha Films, directed by R Prakash.  ‘Goda Kalyanam’ is a famous telugu TV serial.

Thai Amavasai 2025 – when will World end !

 

Set in the eponymous year, the film depicts a dystopian world in which humanity is close to extinction. A theme that exists in every religion – that World will come to an end one day, may be due to extraordinary natural forces ! With the complete disappearance of the trees, the natural oxygen doesn’t exist any longer. People must rely on its synthetic variation, but because of its exorbitant price, the poor can hardly afford it. The first half of the film takes place in the only city in the world in which electricity is still available.  The protagonist’s wife Xanthe, has a condition known simply as The Sickness, which gradually makes a victim’s body unable to process the artificial oxygen. Ethan and Jude work at the world’s only active nuclear power plant. Ethan’s apparently normal if bleak existence is interrupted when the corporation that he works for tells him that he is needed to save the World.

Predictions of apocalyptic events that will result in the extinction of humanity, a collapse of civilization, or the destruction of the planet have been made since at least the beginning of the Common Era.  

The prophecies of legendary mystics Nostradamus and Baba Vanga are making headlines as 2025 has just begun, raising concerns about potential chaos and conflict. With predictions suggesting a tumultuous year ahead, both figures offer strikingly similar warnings about the future.  Recent interpretations of their prophecies suggest that both Nostradamus and Baba Vanga foresee severe global challenges in 2025. Nostradamus warns, "the ancient plague will be worse than enemies," indicating that Europe may face another pandemic along with "cruel wars." He also highlights natural disasters, predicting that Brazil will experience volcanic activity and deadly flooding. Similarly, Baba Vanga predicts conflict will erupt between two countries in mainland Europe, leading to devastating global consequences. She suggests that these events could trigger a global apocalypse. Furthermore, she envisions alien encounters during major global events and anticipates that humans will achieve perfect telepathy within the next year. On a darker note, she predicts a "Martian war" with aliens. 

Heard of Doomsday Clock !  :  that has been ticking for 77 years,  is no ordinary clock — it attempts to gauge how close humanity is to destroying the world.  On 28.1.2025 Tuesday, the clock was again set at 89 seconds to midnight — the closest to the hour it has ever been, according to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which created the clock in 1947. Midnight represents the moment at which people will have made Earth uninhabitable. Last year the Bulletin set the clock at 90 seconds to midnight mainly due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the increased risk of nuclear escalation. 

The threat from sky has always loomed large - Although likely to kill many (or all) inhabitants on our planet, an enormous asteroid or comet impact would not have the energy to destroy Earth. Nor would the explosion of a powerful supernova within a few light-years. However, orbital instabilities in the Solar System may eventually lead to a catastrophic collision between Earth and one of the other terrestrial planets – Mercury, Venus or Mars. Yet the possibility of that happening is only about1per cent over the next five billion years or so.

In our sampradhayam – there are yugas and at the end of Kali Yuga, the World will be wiped out of its living things by a big monstrous wave. Apocalypse (from Ancient Greek   (apokálupsis) 'revelation, disclosure') is a literary genre in which a supernatural being reveals cosmic mysteries or the future to a human intermediary. The means of mediation include dreams, visions and heavenly journeys. Eschatology, from Greek eschatos, last, concerns expectations of the end of the present age, and apocalyptic eschatology is the application of the apocalyptic world-view to the end of the world, when God will punish the wicked and reward the faithful.  An apocalypse will often contain much eschatological material.

"Apocalypse" has come to be used popularly as a synonym for catastrophe, but the Greek word apokálypsis, from which it is derived, means a revelation.  It has been defined as "a genre of revelatory literature with a narrative framework, in which a revelation is mediated by an otherworldly being to a human recipient, disclosing a transcendent reality which is both temporal, in that it envisages eschatological salvation, and spatial, insofar as it involves another, supernatural world." 

In the final moments before a total solar eclipse, the temperature drops, birds and insects sing, and the ambient light becomes otherworldly.   Daytime morphs into a 360-degree dusk, and where the Sun once hung a black hole punches through the sky, wreathed by a white ethereal glow  -  what are we talking about ?  Some might be surprised.  ‘Corona’ is not a new word, not a bad one either.  That white ethereal glow   described is the solar corona, the Sun’s tenuous upper atmosphere of ionized gas.  The Sun’s corona is the outermost part of the Sun’s atmosphere. ஊழி - உலகம் அழியும் .. .. அந்தகாரம் எனும் இருள் எங்கும் சூழும் .. .. உலகம் அழிவது பற்றிய குறிப்பு ஒவ்வொரு சமுதாயத்திலும் உள்ளது.  ஆழிப்பேரலை எனும் மிக பெரிய வெள்ளத்தால் உலகம் அழியும் என்பது பல சமயங்களின் கணிப்பு.    உலகம் அழிவது யாருக்கும் சம்மதமில்லை. இருந்தாலும் அப்படி ஓர் அழிவு வருமானால் என்ன செய்வது? எங்கு போவது? எப்படி இந்த அழிவிலிருந்து தப்பிப் பிழைப்பது? இதுவரை ஆசை ஆசையாய் சேர்த்து வைத்த செல்வத்தை எல்லாம் என்ன செய்வது? அன்பான குழந்தைகள், ஆதரவான உறவுகள், அறிவார்ந்த நட்புகள் எல்லாரையும் விட்டுப் பிரிய வேண்டிய நேரம் நெருங்கிவிட்டதா? உயிர்மேல் ஆசையில்லாதவர் யார்? 

மனிதர்கள் இரவு உறங்குவர்.  காலை எழுந்து இருப்பர் - சில சிறு வேலைகளுக்கு பின்னர் உத்யோகம் செல்வர், காலை, மதியம், இரவு உணவு உண்ணுவர்.  செல்வம் தேடுவர், ஈட்டுவர் - அந்த பணத்தை தேடி பேராசையுடன் ஓடுவர் .. .. மறுபடி இரவு, மறுபடி பகல் .. .. 2020 ஆண்டு ஜனவரி மாதத்தில் எங்கோ வூஹான் என்ற சீன தேசத்திலே புது வியாதி வந்துள்ளதாகவும், மக்கள் கொத்துக்கொத்தாக மடிவதாகவும் செய்தி பரவியது.  நாம், நம்மில் பலர் நினைத்தது - இந்தியா போன்று பல்வேறு கடின சூழல்களில் வாழ்பவர்களை இவை ஒன்றும் செய்யா!  

ஒரு நாள் - மெரீனா கடற்கரை மூடப்பட்டது.  இந்திய அரசாங்கம் ஒரு நாள் அடையாள கட்டுப்பாட்டை கொண்டு வந்தது.  மார்ச் மாதம் 20ம் தேதி, 2020  முதல் திருக்கோவில்கள் மூடப்பட்டன.  இரண்டொரு நாட்களில், ஊரடங்கு அமல் படுத்தப்பட்டது.  கொரோனா நோய் பரவியது ! - மக்கள் பலர் மாண்டனர்.  பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கானோர் பாதிக்கப்பட்டனர்.

மார்ச் மாதம் 20ம் தேதி, 2020  முதல் மூடி இருந்த கோவில்கள் செப்ட் 7 முதல் பக்தர்களுக்கு திறந்தன.  நவம்பர் 30 திருக்கார்த்திகை தீபம் - திருப்பாணாழ்வார் சாற்றுமுறை அன்று ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் கோபுர வாசல் தாண்டி எழுந்துஅருளினார்.  6.1.2021  முதலாக ஸ்ரீஆண்டாள் திருவீதி புறப்பாடு.  சேவித்த பக்தர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் ஆனந்தம்.    

31.1.2022  அன்றைய தை  அமாவாசை.  திருவல்லிக்கேணி வாசிகளுக்கு, வாழ்வில் ஒரு இனிய மறக்கமுடியாத தருணம்.  பலமாதங்கள் பிறகு அன்று மாலை திருவீதி புறப்பாடு  - ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவர்கள் அனைவரும் குலம் குலமாக பரம்பரையாக வழிபட்டுவரும் நம் பார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான் திவ்யதரிசனம் அளித்தார்.  மாட வீதிகளில் மக்கள் ஆனந்தமயமாக நின்று தரிசித்து இன்புற்றனர்.   

இப்பூவுலகில் தீமைகள் எல்லாம் நீங்கி, கொரோனா போன்ற நோய்கள் பறந்தோடி - நாம் அனைவரும் சந்தோஷத்துடன் வாழ எம்பெருமானை பிரார்த்திப்போம்.  இன்று ஒரு நல்ல தொடக்கம்.  இனிவரும் நாட்களில் எந்த குறைபாடும் இல்லாமல் உத்சவங்கள் சிறப்புற நடக்க அவ்வெம்பெருமானையே வேண்டுவோம்.

திருவல்லிக்கேணி ஒரு அற்புத திவ்யதேசம்.  பெரிய உத்சவங்கள், பஞ்ச பர்வங்கள், ஆழ்வார் ஆசார்யர் சாற்றுமுறை என பலப்பல புறப்பாடுகள் உண்டு.  எம்பெருமான் திருவீதி உலா ஒரு மகோன்னத சமயம்.  பெருமாள் புறப்பாடு கண்டருளும்போது ஏதேனும் கைங்கர்யம் செய்யலாம் ~ அல்லது வெறுமனே பெருமாள் உடனே நடந்து வரலாம்.  அவர் கூடவே வந்து அவரது அற்புத தேஜஸ்ஸை கண்டு ரசித்து, ஆனந்தப்படலாம். எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி அழகன். இந்த திருமாமணி வண்ணனுடைய  தேஜஸ் அளவிடமுடியாதது.

இன்று பெருமாள் அணிந்து இருந்த நீல வண்ண மலர்கள் அனைவரையும் வெகுவாக கவர்ந்தன.  பொதுவாக திவ்யதேச எம்பெருமான்களுக்கு, மணமுள்ள மலர்கள் மட்டுமே அணிவிக்கப்பெறுகின்றன.  இன்றோ எம்பெருமான் நீல நிற சாமந்தி பூக்கள், அவற்றின் மேல் தவழும், இறுக கட்டிய நந்தியாவட்டை மொட்டுக்கள் என மலர்மாலை சிறப்புற திகழ்ந்தது. 

 

Today 25.01.2025 is Thai 12 –  Krishnapaksha Ekadasi – it is all about Sri Parthasarathi Perumal purappadu and the floral garlands that added to His beauty.  

Marigold  (Samanthi - சாமந்தி பூ)  plant is renowned  for its vibrant orange and yellow blossoms, this cheerful perennial not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor space but is regarded as healthy too. 

Tagetes is a genus of 50 species of annual or perennial, mostly herbaceous plants in the family Asteraceae. They are among several groups of plants known in English as marigolds. The genus Tagetes was described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. Originally called cempōhualxōchitl, by the Nahua peoples, these plants are native to Central and Southern Mexico and several other Latin American countries. Some species have become naturalized around the world. One species, T. minuta, is considered a noxious invasive plant in some areas. 

Roses are red, but science could someday turn them blue. That’s one of the possible future applications of a technique researchers have used to genetically engineer blue chrysanthemums for the first time.  Chrysanthemum marigold is a variety in chrysanthemum species in which flowers looks like that of marigold flower in full bloom. Chrysanthemum flower symbolizes fidelity, optimism, joy and long life. These flowers bloom in various forms, and can be daisy-like, decorative, or buttons. Chyrsanthemums come in an array of colours, including pink, yellow and red. But all it took to engineer the truly blue hue — and not a violet or bluish colour — was tinkering with two genes, scientists report in a study published in Science Advances stated.  

True blue flowers are a rarity in nature—they occur only in select species like morning glories and delphiniums. However, researchers created a genuinely blue chrysanthemum by adding two genes to the normally pink or reddish flower. The advance could be applied to other species—and it may mean that florists wanting to hawk blooms of blue will no longer have to dye them.     

Chrysanthemums are flowering plants of the genus Chrysanthemum in the family Asteraceae.  The genus Chrysanthemum are perennial herbaceous flowering plants, sometimes subshrubs.

Triplicane mourns the passing away of  Shri TR Kuppuswamy Iyengar, the Centurion !!

 

 

Triplicanites are in for a shock hearing the passing away of doyen, centurion Shri U. Ve. TR Kuppuswamy Iyengar, peacefully today evening.

Recently, on 29.7.2024, Barani nakshathiram in the month of Aadi in Krothi Tamil varusham  ..  he completed a perfect 100 and entered 101 !  ‘Sri T.R. Kuppuswamy Iyengar’ – a scholar, philanthropist, great human being living at South Mada Street, very close to the divine aboard of Sri Parthasarathi Perumal. 

He completed B.A. (Hons) in Mathematics, was an alumnus of St. Josephs College, Trichy, worked in and retired as Accounts Officer, Accountant General Office.  A man well versed in Ubhaya vedantham and interested in Sanskrit studies, he has patronized our sampradhayam in great measure.  He has written and published 6 books in Tamil highlighting interesting aspects of our sampradhayam.

He comes in the sishya lineage of  Cholasimhapuram Doddayachaaryar (Sri U. Ve. Kovil Kanthadai Chandamarutham Yoga Nrusimhan  Swamy, is our varthamana swami).  His wife Tmt. Susheela  hailed  from ancestral village of Dusi Mamandur.  Sri Kuppuswamy Iyengar is the principal donor for the Ramanuja koodam that stands now in front of Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal temple at Dusi Mamandur, having donated land and major amount for its construction.  He has donated for the corpus fund of SYMA couple of times.

Shri T.R. Kuppuswamy Iyengar is no more ! ~ though aged, the news is shocking and a very sad one for the Vaishnava community and for us living in Triplicane and those connected to Dusi Mamandur.   Though the loss is colossal and very hard to accept, we pray for Sadagati for the great person’s aathma  and take solace citing Swami Nammalwar  thiruvaimozhi pasuram. 

எம்பெருமான் அடியவர்கள் - எம்பெருமான் தம் இருப்பிடமாம் வைகுண்டத்துக்கு சென்று சேர்ந்தபடியே, அங்குள்ள நித்யஸூரிகள், வைகுந்தனாகிய எம்பெருமானின் இருப்பிடத்துக்கு வருக, வருக, என்று வரவேற்று அமரர்களும், முனிவர்களும் 'மண்ணுலகில் பிறந்தவர்கள்' வைகுண்டம் அடைவது பெரும் பாக்கியம் என்று உரைத்ததாக திருவாய்மொழி பத்தாம் பத்து ஒன்பதாம் திருவாய்மொழி பாசுரம் : 

வைகுந்தம் புகுதலும் வாசலில் வானவர்  .. ..  இந்த பாசுரத்தின் “வைகுந்தம் புகுவது மண்ணவர் விதியே” என்ற ஈற்றடியை  ஸம்ஸாரிகள் பரமபதத்தே வந்து சேரும்படியாக நாம் பாக்யம் பண்ணினோமே! என்று சொல்லி வியந்தனராயிற்று என்று கொள்வர். 

We pray Emperuman for giving strength to his bereaved  family to bear this colossal loss.  Understand that obsequies will be performed at his house in South Mada Street tomorrow morning by 7.30am.
