A ship
or a boat is a contraption that can float and move on the ocean, a river,
or any waterbody, either through its own power or using power from the elements
(wind, waves, or Sun). Plain steel would sink in water immediately, as would a
wrecked steel ship !
When something is in water, there are two forces acting on it : - Its
weight and the force of the water pushing up, the upthrust. If the weight is equal to or less than the
upthrust, it floats. Things that float are buoyant. If the weight is greater than the upthrust,
it sinks. Buoyancy is the force exerted on an object that is wholly or partly
immersed in a fluid. The symbol for the
magnitude of buoyancy is : B or FB. As
a vector it must be stated with both magnitude and direction. As with other
forces, the SI unit of buoyancy is the newton [N]. Buoyancy is caused by
differences in pressure acting on opposite sides of an object immersed in a
static fluid.
How

ஆனந்தம் என்ற
பெயர்ச்சொல்லுக்கு உண்மையான அர்த்தம் என்ன ? - நாம்
ஒரு பொருளை ரசித்து அனுபவிக்கும்போது ஆனந்தம் அடைகிறோம். சிலருக்கு தூக்கம் கூட ஆனந்தத்தை
தர வல்லது. .. .. அருள் கொண்டாடும் அடியவனான ஸ்ரீவைணவனுக்கு
யாது சந்தோஷத்தை தர வல்லது? நம் அனைவருக்கும் "எம்பெருமானுடைய க்ருபைக்கு மேற்பட்ட க்ருபை
உலகில் வேறு ஏதேனும் உண்டோ ?"
பகவத் கைங்கர்யம் என்பது பகவானுக்குச்
செய்யும் தொண்டு. கைங்கர்யம் என அழைக்கப்பெறும்
தொண்டு பலவிதமானது. எம்பெருமானின் பெயரையே
உச்சரிப்பது, அவனது பெயரைக் கேட்பது, அவன் பெயரைப் பாடுவது, அவனையே நினைத்திருப்பது,
அவன் திருவடிக்குச் சேவை செய்வது, பூக்களால் அர்ச்சிப்பது, அவனுக்கு தாசனாய் இருப்பது,
அவனுக்கே தன்னை அர்ப்பணிப்பது என்பதாக பலவித முறைகள். பொதுவாக - எம்பெருமான் உகக்கும், அவனுக்கு சிறப்பிக்கும்,
அவனையே நினைத்து அவனுக்காக செய்யப்படும் செயல்கள் எல்லாமே பகவத் கைங்கர்யங்கள் தான்.
In the divyadesam of
Thiruvallikkeni, the tamil month of Masi has special significance. On
Masi New moon [Amavasyai] starts the float festival at
Thiruvallikkeni. The tank of Sri Parthasarathi Swami is famous ~ it
is ‘Kairavini Pushkarini’… the pond of Lily –
‘allikkeni’ from which the place itself derives its name (~ and
my blog is titled Kairavini Karaiyinile literally meaning
on the banks of holy Kairavini, the temple tank).
Every year there is
the ‘theppam’ – the float festival. A floating structure
gets spruced up, made of drums, timber and ornated beautifully. Perumal comes
to the temple tank in purappadu and is placed majestically inside the
float. The beautifully lit theppam is dragged around in water. Devotees in
hundreds converge, sit everywhere on the steps of the temple tank to have
darshan of the Lord on theppam. In olden days, the shops springing up for the
occasion were of added attraction.
When we do kainkaryam to
Lord (to Him at Thiruvenkadam), we must do service by being with HIM throughout
our life and do as a slave would serve his master. “ ஒழிவில் காலமெல்லாம் உடனாய் மன்னி, வழுவிலா அடிமை
செய்ய வேண்டும் நாம்,” – Life in a divyadesam is always exhilarating –
you get to mingle with so many persons whose life is entwined in service to
Emperuman Sriman Narayana. Of the
many kainkaryams, Sripadham thangis are physically associated too
and can be very demanding. At Thiruvallikkeni there are many dedicated
youngsters who are extremely committed to the kainkaryam of carrying the Lord
on their shoulders and do all the associated activities. Their
involvement actually commences hours before every purappadu and ends an hour or
so late.
A couple of decades ago,
when those coming for rendering this service were becoming thinner, this group
got more organized and formed Sri Thennacharya Sri
Vaishnava Sripadham Thangigal Kainkarya Sabhai ~ now a
registered association too. Besides
the purappadu – in the past few years, this group is involved in getting
constructed the ‘divine theppam’ for Emperuman [both construction and
dismantling after theppothsavam]. Today,
in the thirukulam, this group was busy immersed in sprucing up the theppam
getting it ready for the uthsavam.

இடத்திலே தம்மை ஈடுபடுத்திக்கொண்டோர்க்கு 'சகலமும் அவனே' - நம்மை அழைத்து,
அரவணைத்து, காத்து, சரியான பாதையிலே எடுத்துச்செல்பவன் அவன் ... அவனது திருப்பாத கமலங்களை
அருகே இருந்து அனுபவித்து, அவனுக்கு கைங்கர்யம் பண்ண ஒரு அரிய வாய்ப்பு இக்கைங்கர்யம்.
