Sri Azhagiya Singar Chandra Prabhai 2018

Today 26th June 2018   is day 4 of   Brahmothsavam of  Sri Thelliya Singar at Thiruvallikkeni. In the morning it was Surya Prabhai and in the evening it was the pleasant ‘Chandra prabhai’.  As the purappadu was about to begin, it rained – bakthas assembled could have darshan of Sri Azhagiya singar in chandra prabai and then there was purappadu in kedayam.

Chandra prabhai purappadu of last year.

The Moon (or Luna) is the Earth’s only natural satellite – considered to have been formed 4.6 billion years ago around some 30–50 million years after the formation of the solar system. Moon has enamoured mankind for ages – in our literature and in Divyaprabhandnam too, there is mention of moon in many a places.  Moon is characterised as a cool, pleasant one.   The Moon is in synchronous rotation with Earth meaning the same side is always facing the Earth.  In reality both sides of the Moon see the same amount of sunlight however only one face of the Moon is ever seen from Earth. This is because the Moon rotates around on its own axis in exactly the same time it takes to orbit the Earth, meaning the same side is always facing the Earth.

Visiting the Moon is an incredibly rare privilege. Just 12 people have ever been there, and your chances of joining those ranks are essentially zero. If the reality of that whole situation kind of bums you out, perhaps NASA’s brand new 4K ‘Moon Tour’ video will help fulfill your desire to visit Earth’s nearest neighbour.  The video is the result of over half a decade of high-resolution imagery gathered by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which launched back in 2009. It’s called a “tour” because it highlights a whole bunch of neat lunar landmarks, including bother natural geographic features and manmade points of interest, like the Apollo 17 landing site.

Interestingly, much before Armstrong landed on the mon,  three crew members of Apollo 8 became  the first humans to leave Earth orbit and the first to travel around the Moon.  The Dec. 21, 1968 launch of Apollo 8 (AS-503) from Cape Kennedy, Fla. was the beginning of a mission designed to test the Apollo system and gain the operational experience necessary to realize President Kennedy’s goal of “landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to Earth.”

Though our moon is alone – there are many more of other planets. Jupiter's moon Europa doesn't look like a particularly inviting place for life to thrive; the icy satellite is nearly 500 million miles (800 million kilometers) from the sun, on average – beneath its icy crust lies a liquid ocean with more water than Earth contains.  The moon is the easiest celestial object  found  in the night sky — when it is there. One that is visible to naked eye.  Earth's only natural satellite hovers above us bright and round until it seemingly disappears for a few nights. The rhythm of the moon's phases has guided humanity for millennia. Moon’s  influence on Earth's cycles, notably tides, has been charted by many cultures in many ages.
