Thiruchanur - Alarmelmangapuram - Sri Padmavathi Thayar darsanam

Sometimes you get to read what you don’t want – everywhere in every group – some news or other on Covid-19 is getting circulated.  Nation is gearing up to fight the dreaded virus.  Sadly, temples are closed and we are not in a position to have darshan of our Emperuman – but that is the way of life.  There have been troubled times earlier too, people have emerged unscathed by following the guidelines and by surrendering to Sriman Narayana, our Saviour.

Following the nationwide lockdown to prevent and contain the spread of coronavirus disease, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Thursday closed the ghat roads baring entry to all vehicles on ghat roads except to the duty vehicles. TTD initially restricted vehicle movements on the ghat roads by from 9.00 pm to 6.00 am due to closure of the Tirumala temple for darshan, since last Friday. Now it has completely closed down the ghat roads on both sides.

The sacred and most reverred temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the seventh peak – Venkatachala hill of Tirumala.  The Lord stands tall as bestower of all boons and lakhs of people reach here to have a glimpse – a few seconds darshan of the Lord.  This beautiful temple in its present form owes a lot to the works of the greatest Vaishnava Acarya Swami Ramanujar.  To us Thirumala Thirupathi encompasses – the holy shrine atop the hills of Thirumala, Kizh Thirupathi Govindaraja swami and Thiruchanoor Sri Padmavathi thayar.

Tirukkadavuru, Alarmel Mangapuram, Tirusukanur, Vadirajapuram, Tiruchhikkanur, Tiruchanur, Ammavaru thirukovil,  call it by any name, goddess Padmavathi is always at the behest of her beloved devotees.  The sacred pilgrim town of Tiruchanoor  is the abode of the “Lotus-born” goddess Padmavathi, who is also known by the name of Alarmel Mangai, and hence Alarmelmangapuram.

Tiruchanur, abode of Goddess Sri Padmavathi Devi, the beloved consort of Lord Venkateswara  is one of the oldest pilgrim towns located 5km away from Tirupati.  According to purana  Goddess Mahalakshmi emerged on the golden lotus as Padmavathi Devi located at the centre of Padmasarovaram-the temple tank and is worshipped.  About 5,500 years ago, at the end of the Dwapara yugam and the beginning of Kaliyuga, the supreme Goddess thayar Mahalakshmi emerged in the Padma Sarovaram on a 1,000-petal golden lotus in the holy month of Karthika in Suklapaksha Panchami tithi on Friday on the advent of Uttaradashada star.

People visit and have darshan of Padmavathi thayar and beseech Her divine blessings before they visit Lord Venkateswara as Tirumala during their pilgrimage.  Sri Padmavathi thayar is the main deity of this temple – there is kalyana uthsavam every day.  There are sannathies of Balarama Krishna and Sundararajar also.

Had the fortune of worshipping  at this temple on 29.2.2020 and here are some photos of unjal sevai of Padmavathi thayar.
