శ్రీ రామ పాదమా నీ కృప చాలునే !  చిత్తానికి రావే

ஸ்ரீ ராம பாதமா நீ க்ருப சாலுனே !  சித்தானிகி ராவே !! 

The Greatest of Ithihasa purana   ‘Sri Ramayanam’  is the undiluted history of the Greatest Person who descended on this Universe, on the banks of river Sarayu, in a prosperous country called ‘Koshala’.   

நற்பண்புகள் அனைத்துக்கும் சிகரம் ஸ்ரீராமபிரான்.  அற்புதமான நகரம் திரு அயோத்தி.  தசரத சக்ரவர்த்திக்கு இக்ஷ்வாகு குலத்தனமாம் இராமனும் இலக்குவண பரத சத்ருக்கணனும் பிறந்த  செய்தியை அரசவை காவலர்கள்  யானைமீதேறி முரசறைந்து அறிவித்தனர்.  மக்கள் அளக்கமுடியாத இன்பம் கொண்டனர்.

Lord Rama descended on earth for the purpose of upholding righteousness and rewarding virtue. Ramayana is the greatest Ithihasa detailing the life and journey of the immortal Perfect man’s adherence to dharma despite harsh tests of life and time. Lord Rama is the epitome of all virtues and the perfect human being who abandoned the throne and served exile in the forest for the sake of honour of his beloved father.  Lord Rama  came in the dynasty of Iskshvahu.

உன்னத பாரதம் உலகின் மணி மகுடமாக திகழ்ந்தது. நம் இதிஹாச புராணங்கள் அற்புத காவியங்கள். உலக நாடுகளில் கலாச்சாரம் தோன்றாமல்,  பல கண்டங்களில் மனிதர்கள்  காட்டுமிராண்டிகளாய் அலைந்துகொண்டிருந்த காலம்;  அமெரிக்கா கண்டுபிடிக்கப்படவே இல்லை, . அந்த நிலையில் இந்தியப் பண்பாடு இருந்த உயர்ந்த நிலை பிரமிக்க வைக்கிறது.  இராமபிரானது   கோசல நாட்டில் வணிகம் பெருகி நடப்பதால், செல்வமும் கணக்கின்றி குவிந்து கிடந்தன. அந்த நாட்டிலுள்ள நிலத்தடி சுரங்கங்களெல்லாம் பற்பல தாதுக்களையும், மணிகளையும் வாரி வாரி கொடுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தன. விளை நிலங்களோ உற்பத்தியைக் கணக்கின்றி கொடுக்கின்றன; தானியங்கள் மலை மலையாய் குவிந்து கிடக்கின்றன. கோசல நாட்டு மக்கள் ஒருவர் போல அனைவரும் நல்லொழுக்கமும் நல்ல பண்பாடும் மிக்கவர்களாகத் திகழ்ந்தார்கள்.  அந்நாட்டை கம்ப நாட்டாழ்வான் வர்ணிக்கையில்:  

“அகில் இடும்புகை, அட்டில் இடும்புகை,

நகரின் ஆலை நறும்புகை நான்மறை

புகலும் வேள்வியின் பூம்புகையோடு அளாய்

முகிலின் விம்மி முயங்கின எங்கணும்”  

அகில்கட்டைகளிலிருந்து வரும் புகை, வீடுகளிலிருந்து உணவு தயாரிப்பால் எழும் சமையல் புகை, கரும்பாலைகளிலிருந்து வரும் புகை, நான்கு வேதங்களின் முறைப்படி செய்யப்படும் வேள்விகளிலிருந்து வரும் வேள்விப்புகை இவை அனைத்தும் சேர்ந்து மேகத்தைப்போன்று எங்கும் பரவியுள்ளன என சிறப்பிக்கிறார்.   

ஓர் இல், ஒரு சொல், ஒரு வில் என வாழ்ந்து வழிகாட்டியவர் ஸ்ரீராமர். 'ராமன்' என்றாலே தானும் ஆனந்தமாக இருந்து மற்றவர்களுக்கும் ஆனந்தத்தைத் தருகிறவன் என்று அர்த்தம். எத்தனைவிதமான துக்கங்கள் வந்தபோதிலும் மனத்தைத் தளரவிடாமல், ஆனந்தமாக தர்மத்தையே அனுசரித்து வந்தவர். நற்பண்புகள் அனைத்துக்கும் சிகரம் ஸ்ரீராமபிரான்.  அற்புதமான நகரம் திரு அயோத்தி.  

Saint Thiyagaraja (Thiyagayya)  saw the reigns of four kings of Maratha dynasty but served none of them.  He was so fond of Sree Rama that his keerthanas exude bakthi rasam of the highest order.  He would literally plead with Lord Rama for taking him closer .. ..   தியாகய்யர் இராமனை நெக்குருகி பாடும் ஒரு கீர்த்தனை இங்கே :

வாரிஜ பவ ஸனக ஸனந்தன !!  வாஸ(வா)தி  நாரது ல்ல பூஜிஞ்சே (ஸ்ரீ)

இராமனின் திருவடியே! உனது கிருபை போதுமே; எனதுள்ளத்துள் வாராய்! 

shrI rAma pAdamA nI krpa jAlunE cittAniki rAvE

vArijabhava sanaka sanandana vAsavAdi nAradAdu lella pUjince

immersed in Bakthi Sri Thiyagaraja pleads Sree Rama Piran – Oh  Holy feet of SrI rAma - worshipped by brahmA, sages sanaka, sanandana, nArada, indra and others: - ‘ Your grace is indeed enough;  Be firmly implanted in my mind;  You protected ahalya who, lying as a wayside stone, was ever shedding tears unable to withstand the distress;  Deign to beatify me too in the same manner; Oh feet of Rama   your mercy is sufficient for me, Please  come and occupy my mind.

Today 30^th Sept 2021 is Punarvasu nakshathiram in the month of Purattasi –  celebrating the birth of Sree Ramapiran, the masa thirunakshathiram of Sri Kulasekara Azhwar. Embar and Mudali andan – in normal times, there would have been siriya mada veethi purappadu of Sree Ramar – alas, due to corona restrictions, there is none !!

Thirukudanthai aka Kumbakonam is a place of hundreds of Temples – and there is this beautiful temple of  Emperor of Kosala Kingdom  Sri Ramaswamy Thirukovil.    The temple was built during the period of Thanjavur Nayaks king Achuthappa Nayak (1560–1614) and completed during the reign of Raghunatha Nayak (1600–34). The temple is enshrined within a huge granite wall and the complex contains all the shrines and the water bodies of the temple.   There are exquisite sculptures on the pillars of the temple depicting various Hindu legends. Ramayanam is depicted in pictorial format in three segments in the first precinct.  Here are some photos of the gopuram and the beautiful Sree Rama, taken during an earlier visit.
