Much blood (not water) has flown under the bridge .. .. !  the Lidder river is a   73 km (45 mi) river situated in the Kashmir Valley of Jammu and Kashmir – originating from the Kolahoi Glacier and feeding  the Jhelum River in Mirgund Khanabal, at an altitude of 1,615 metres (5,299 ft).  Lidder is a corruption of the local Sanskrit name Lambodari (लम्बोदरी) meaning 'long bellied goddess'.  The river originates from Kolhoi Glacier near Sonamarg and gives rise to Lidder Valley. It runs southwards through the alpine meadows of Lidderwat in the region of Aru, from which it got its name. It covers 30 kilometres (19 mi) before reaching Pahalgam where it joins the major tributary of the East Lidder from Sheshnag Lake.  The waters of the river are mainly used for irrigation purposes through different canals and as drinking water processed by water treatment plants. 

On 22 April 2025, a terrorist attack at Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir killed at least 26 tourists and injured more than 20 others.  The attack, the deadliest of its kind in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, specifically targeted  Hindu tourists, aimed at resisting demographic changes in the Kashmir Valley. The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based, UN-designated terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. 

The horrific killing of tourists that has left the meadows of Pahalgam stained with the blood of more than two dozen corpses produces a sickening sense vertigo — like the fall of the falcon, “turning and turning in the widening gyre.”  Gory, gruesome, heinous crime on humanity  as people were targeted for their religion.   

Pahalgam  is a town in Anantnag district of   Jammu and Kashmir. It is located on the banks of Lidder River at an altitude of 2,200 m (7,200 ft) in the Vale of Kashmir. Pahalgam is the headquarters of the Pahalgam tehsil, one of the eleven tehsils in Anantnag district.  Located about 45 km (28 mi) from Anantnag, the town is a popular tourist destination and hill station. The town is the starting point of the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath Temple, which takes place in July–August.  Pahalgam literally means "village of the shepherds" in Kashmiri, with "Puheyl" meaning shepherd and "goam" meaning village.  In Hindu literature, the region is mentioned as "Bailgaon", meaning "village of the bull", to indicate where Lord Shiva left his bull on the way to Amarnath. 

Anantnag is the administrative headquarters of Anantnag district   located at a distance of 53 kilometres (33 miles) from the   capital Srinagar.  "Anantnag" derives from the name of the spring at the southern end of the town, whose Sanskrit name Anantanāga was mentioned in the Nilamata Purana and other texts.  According to the Gazetteer of Kashmir and Ladak, it is named after Ananta, the great serpent of Vishnu and the emblem of eternity.  It is also called – Islamabad   derived from the name of a Mughal governor Islam Khan who built a garden in the area.   

The gruesome attack makes the State   take whatever action is necessary to bring the perpetrators, and those who aid them, to justice. Yet, as India chooses the next course of action, it will be difficult to shake off the sense of despair this kind of terrorism produces. A successful military operation might be an act of justice. It would  restore a sense of confidence in the capabilities of the state, and, in some quarters, satiate a desire for revenge.  The  tragedy of the moment is that the bloody frontier this act in Pahalgam has drawn will still shadow our political destiny.

 

Vedas are classified into two parts - Karma Kanda and Brahma Kanda. Karma Kanda, due to its vastness needed a briefing. Jaimini wrote Suthras (aphorisms) for the same. It was called as Purva Mimamsa. Similarly Brahma Kanda, due to its complexity, needed a briefing, as it might have resulted in misinterpretations. Veda Vyasa wrote aphorisms for the same. This is called as Brahma Sutra. Both Purva Mimamsa and Brahma Sutra needed further explanations. Thus came the Vritti(explanation) from Bodhayana for the Brahma sutra. A Vritti is a short gloss explaining the aphorisms in a more, elaborate way, but not as extensively as a Bhashya. Bodhayana Vritti had the reputation of being the most authoritative explanation of the Brahma Suthras. 

Our greatest Acarya Swami Ramanuja wanted to write Bhashyam to Braham sutra or Sage Veda Vyasa and wanted to read Bodhayana Vriti.    1000  years ago,   only one  copy was available and that  was in Kashmir. Emperumanar  Ramanujar along with his  disciple   Kuresa  visited  Kashmir   for   Bodhayana Vritti. The pundits of Kashmir   allowed him to read but not take away nor  take  any notes. Kuresha who had photographic  memory   was able to repeat  the contents of the book .Using  it     Ramanujar   gave us “Sri Bashyam”.    That is the spiritual connect of Kashmeeram land with our Sampradhayam and our Acharyar.   When his most famous work was complete,  Udayavar  again visited Kashmir to dedicate ‘Sri Bhasya’ to Maa Sharda, the goddess of Learning.

 

Recently in Oct 2023,  Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha  while inaugurating  a branch of the Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt in Srinagar   talked  in detail about  Ramanujacharya’s Kashmir connection  while referring to  latters philosophy of ‘Vishishtadvaita’  which preached love, peace, compassion, universal brotherhood and social equality.  He drew reference to the 11^th century visit of Ramanujacharya.. Acharyar with his disciple came on foot to Kashmir.     Upon receiving them ,the King of Kashmir and his court-scholars were astounded by Ramanuja’s profound knowledge but  expressed their reservations to even permit Ramanujacharya to make a copy of the text.   It was after a long persuasion that Kashmir scholars, who possessed the only copy of this  book in their library  had   allowed Ramanujacharya to merely thumb through the pages of the book.  Kooresha is believed to have read it aloud from cover to cover and Ramanujacharya listened in silence.  With the  prodigious memory of Kuresar,  began the composition of Sri Bhashya, the commentary on Bramha Sutras. The guru dictated and the disciple wrote it down.  Ramanujacharya later came to be called ‘Sribhashyakara.’ After the completion of the work, students of Ramanujacharya wanted to fulfill their teacher’s mission to visit pilgrim centers. They visited distant holy places like Dwaraka and Badari and  reached Kashmir.  At the valley,   Mata Sharda– the Goddess of learning is believed to have blessed him by presenting an icon of Hayagreeva.  

Unbroken tradition (according to Parakala Mutt)  has it that Sri Ramanuja got the gift of Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva’s image, worshipped in the Brahmatantra Parakala Matha of Mysore, directly from Sri Saraswati in recognition of the expounding of the Vishistadvaita system of philosophy before the assemblage of Pandits of Kashmir “Saraswati Peetham” about the beginning of the twelfth century, during his visit to that country, even as Sri Sankaracharya, under similar circumstances, got the image of Sri Sharada herself three  centuries earlier. From Sri Ramanuja the image of  §ri Hayagriva and, with it, the spiritual succession, passed on to Tirukkurukkaippiran Pillan. From Sri Pundarikaksha, a scion of that distinguished saint, who also had become the Rajaguru to the Vijayanagara Emperor, the image, with all attendant Imperial paraphernalia, passed on to later occupants of the Mutt. 

On October 05, 2023 , Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha  inaugurated Jagadguru Sri Ramanujacharya Saraswathi Bhandaram Digital Library and Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt Branch, Kashmir at Shivpora, Srinagar. In his address, the Lt Governor congratulated the Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt and followers of Jagadguru Sri Ramanujacharya.  The Lt Governor recalled the immense contribution of Jagadguru Sri Ramanujacharya to the society. “Sri Ramanujacharya through his philosophy of vishishtadvaita preached love, peace, compassion, universal brotherhood and social equality. He showed the society path of righteousness, virtue and devotionalism that influenced 'Bhakti Movement',” the Lt Governor said. The Lt Governor also highlighted Sri Ramanujacharya ji’s deep spiritual connect with Kashmir. He said the Mutt's Kashmir Branch and treasure of eternal wisdom being made available through digital library will inspire us in building a peaceful and harmonious society. The Lt Governor commended the noble initiative to provide medical services at the Mutt’s Kashmir Branch. 

H.H Sri Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Narayana Ramanuja Jeeyar Swami Ji of Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt, on behalf of the Mutt, expressed gratitude to Lt Governor and the UT Administration for the support to the Mutt. Senior officers of Army, Civil & Police administration, members of Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Mutt, Saints and followers of Jagadguru Sri Ramanujacharya were present.

Panchajanyam magazine to stop publishing !!

 

Shocked and saddened to read that Issue no. 210 - Dec 2016 of Sampradhaya magazine of Sri Vaishnavasri A. Krishnamachar "Panchajanyam" - will be the last issue... the magazine enlightening us on Srivaishnava sampradhayam, voice against any wrongdoing against our Sampradhayam is to fall silent - we all have contributed to this closure by not supporting such great people. Writing and publishing is so difficult - more so, when it is on Sampradhaya matters. Sad, indeed !!!!!!

Thai Amavasai 2024 - recovering from those dark Corona days

இன்று 9.2.2024  தை  அமாவாசை. இன்று திருவோணம் திருநக்ஷத்திரமும் கூட !!  இன்று மாலை திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்யதேசத்திலே ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான் பெரிய மாட வீதி புறப்பாடு கண்டருள்வார்.

In the final moments before a total solar eclipse, the temperature drops, birds and insects sing, and the ambient light becomes otherworldly.   Daytime morphs into a 360-degree dusk, and where the Sun once hung a black hole punches through the sky, wreathed by a white ethereal glow  -  what are we talking about ?  Some might be surprised.  ‘Corona’ is not a new word, not a bad one either.  That white ethereal glow   described in the starting para is the solar corona, the Sun’s tenuous upper atmosphere of ionized gas.  The Sun’s corona is the outermost part of the Sun’s atmosphere. The corona is usually hidden by the bright light of the Sun's surface. That makes it difficult to see without using special instruments. However, the corona can be viewed during a total solar eclipse.   .. Mahabaratha has reference to Solar  eclipse.   

ஊழி - உலகம் அழியும் .. .. அந்தகாரம் எனும் இருள் எங்கும் சூழும் .. .. உலகம் அழிவது பற்றிய குறிப்பு ஒவ்வொரு சமுதாயத்திலும் உள்ளது.  ஆழிப்பேரலை எனும் மிக பெரிய வெள்ளத்தால் உலகம் அழியும் என்பது பல சமயங்களின் கணிப்பு.    உலகம் அழிவது யாருக்கும் சம்மதமில்லை. இருந்தாலும் அப்படி ஓர் அழிவு வருமானால் என்ன செய்வது? எங்கு போவது? எப்படி இந்த அழிவிலிருந்து தப்பிப் பிழைப்பது? இதுவரை ஆசை ஆசையாய் சேர்த்து வைத்த செல்வத்தை எல்லாம் என்ன செய்வது? அன்பான குழந்தைகள், ஆதரவான உறவுகள், அறிவார்ந்த நட்புகள் எல்லாரையும் விட்டுப் பிரிய வேண்டிய நேரம் நெருங்கிவிட்டதா? உயிர்மேல் ஆசையில்லாதவர் யார்? 

மனிதர்கள் இரவு உறங்குவர்.  காலை எழுந்து இருப்பர் - சில சிறு வேலைகளுக்கு பின்னர் உத்யோகம் செல்வர், காலை, மதியம், இரவு உணவு உண்ணுவர்.  செல்வம் தேடுவர், ஈட்டுவர் - அந்த பணத்தை தேடி பேராசையுடன் ஓடுவர் .. .. மறுபடி இரவு, மறுபடி பகல் .. .. 2020 ஆண்டு ஜனவரி மாதத்தில் எங்கோ வூஹான் என்ற சீன தேசத்திலே புது வியாதி வந்துள்ளதாகவும், மக்கள் கொத்துக்கொத்தாக மடிவதாகவும் செய்தி பரவியது.  நாம், நம்மில் பலர் நினைத்தது - இந்தியா போன்று பல்வேறு கடின சூழல்களில் வாழ்பவர்களை இவை ஒன்றும் செய்யா!  

ஒரு நாள் - மெரீனா கடற்கரை மூடப்பட்டது.  இந்திய அரசாங்கம் ஒரு நாள் அடையாள கட்டுப்பாட்டை கொண்டு வந்தது.  மார்ச் மாதம் 20ம் தேதி, 2020  முதல் திருக்கோவில்கள் மூடப்பட்டன.  இரண்டொரு நாட்களில், ஊரடங்கு அமல் படுத்தப்பட்டது.  கொரோனா நோய் பரவியது ! - மக்கள் பலர் மாண்டனர்.  பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கானோர் பாதிக்கப்பட்டனர்.

31.1.2022  அன்றைய தை  அமாவாசை.  திருவல்லிக்கேணி வாசிகளுக்கு, வாழ்வில் ஒரு இனிய மறக்கமுடியாத தருணம்.  பலமாதங்கள் பிறகு அன்று மாலை திருவீதி புறப்பாடு  - ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவர்கள் அனைவரும் குலம்குலமாக பரம்பரையாக வழிபட்டுவரும் நம் பார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான் திவ்யதரிசனம் அளித்தார்.  மாட வீதிகளில் மக்கள் ஆனந்தமயமாக நின்று தரிசித்து இன்புற்றனர். 

Mamunigal is fondly known as ‘Yatheendra Pravanar’ arising out of his irresistible attachment to the lotus feet of Sri Ramanujar [Yatheendrar].  Before taking asceticism, Sri Manavala Mamunigal travelled wide and vast to various places and he stayed in Srirangam worshipping Namperumal Srimannathar.  With transformation of Uthama Nambi, Mamunigal grew closer to Namperumal and He started conversing with our Acaryar.   

Our Acaryar Swami Manavala Mamunigal was so attached at the feet of Sri Ramanujar.  Perhaps matching the commitment and attachment to the feet of Emperumanar by Mamunigal, Sri Erumbiappa too has similar devotion towards Sri Manavala Mamunigal and hence, he,  in his work   Varavaramuni Sathakam  extols Acaryar Mamunigal  

தஸ்யை நித்யம் ப்ரதிசத திசே தக்ஷிணஸ்யை நமஸ்யாம் |

யஸ்யாமாவிர் பவதி   ஜகதாம் ஜீவநீ ஸஹ்ய கந்யா ||

புண்யைர் யஸ்யா: க்ஷிதிஜல ஜுஷம் பூருஷம் ரங்க பூஷாம் |

பஷ்யந்தந்யோ வரவரமுநி: பாலயந் வர்த்ததே  ~    ந: || 9  

எல்லா உலகத்தின் வாழ்வுக்கும் காரணமான காவிரி நதி எந்த திசையில் பெருகுகிறதோ அந்தத் தெற்குத் திசையை நோக்கி, எந்தத் திசையின் புண்யங்களால் பூமியை அடைந்த ரங்கநகருக்கு ஆபரணமான புருஷோத்தமனை ஸேவித்துக்கொண்டு தம்மைக் க்ருதார்த்தனாக நினைத்து மணவாள மாமுனிகள் நம்மைக் காத்துக் கொண்டுள்ளாரோ அந்த திசையை தினமும் வணங்குங்கள்.  

Sri Erumbiappa directs us to pray towards that direction .. .. of the South – for – the sacred river Cauvery that gives so much to the lives of people flows towards South, the direction at which our Acaryar who with devotion to Sri Azhagiya Manavalan Namperumal lives and where our Acaryar Mamunigal is waiting to serve Him .. ..

My heart-felt tributes to Thirukkovil kainkaryabarar MA Balaji

‘Mr Munsamy oru  1.2.1’ - என்ற சுஜாதா கதை படித்து இருப்பீர்களா என தெரியாது !! 

இன்று ஐப்பசி சதயம் - திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் காலை ஸ்ரீபேயாழ்வார் பல்லக்கில் எழுந்தருளி, அவருடன் ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான் அவரது சன்னதிக்கு எழுந்தருளினார் - அவ்வமயம்  ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி கோவிலில் குழுமி இருந்த  திருவல்லிக்கேணி வாசிகளுக்கு ஓர் பேரிடி வந்திறங்கியது.  ஒரு பால்ய நண்பனின் மரணம் - வெறும் மறைவு அல்ல, தென்னாசார்ய ஸம்ப்ரதாயத்திற்கு ஒரு பேரிழப்பு. 

மெய்யூர் எனும் கிராமம் செங்கல்பட்டு மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ளது - அழகிய ஸ்ரீசுந்தரராஜப்பெருமாள் திருக்கோவில் உள்ள இடம்.  இந்த இடத்தை சொந்தமாக கொண்ட மெய்யூர் குடும்பத்தினரான ஸ்ரீ பாலாஜி ஸ்வாமி இன்று காலை 9 மணி அளவில் திருநாடு அலங்கரித்தது மிக மிக துக்கமான செய்தி.  ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான்  திருவடிகளில் பல வருஷங்கள் இடைவிடா கைங்கர்யம் செய்த உன்னதமான கைங்கர்யபரர்.

 

உடன் பழகியோரிடையே  பெருமதிப்பை பெற்று அவர்களிடம் ஆழ்ந்த தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியவர்.  எனக்கு பள்ளிநாட்கள் முதலே அவரை நான் நன்கு அறிவேன்.  +2 படிப்பு முடிந்து நாங்கள் அனைவரும் கல்லூரி சென்று, பின்னாளில் பணத்தை தேடி ஓடி, சில பதவிகள் பெற்று பெருமிதம் கொண்ட காலத்தில், பாலாஜி தன் தனித்துவத்தை உணர்த்தினான்.  பள்ளி காலம் முடிந்து சில நாட்கள் சில வேலைகள் செய்தான்.  புகைப்படத்துறையில் கொண்ட ஆர்வத்தில் அந்நாளில் திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் பிரபலமாக இருந்த 'தஞ்சை மூர்த்தி ஸ்டூடியோவில்' பணியாற்றினான்.  புகைப்படம் எடுத்தல், நெகட்டிவ்களை பிரிண்ட் போடுதல் போன்ற திறமைகளையும் கற்றான். 

திருக்கோவில் கைங்கர்யத்தில் அதீத ஈடுபாடு கொண்டு - உள்துறை கைங்கர்யபரர் ஆனான்.  விரைவில், திருக்கோவிலில் - வஸ்த்ரகோட்டடி, திருமடைப்பள்ளி, சன்னதி கைங்கர்யம் என ஒவ்வொன்றையும் சிறப்புற செய்தான். இளம் வயதிலேயே சிகையுடன் முழு கைங்கர்யபரர் ஆகவும் திருக்கோவில் பணியாளராகவும் பணியாற்றினான்.  

பளிச்சென்று அழகான திருமண், தூய பஞ்சகச்சம் ஆடை, மேலும் சில நாட்களில் தகடி, சால்வை அணிந்து - திருக்கோவிலில் - அருளிச்செயல், உள்துறை, திருமஞ்சனக்குடம், ஸ்ரீபாதம், திருக்குடைகள்,  சாமரம் (திருத்தேரில் பிரதானமாக), கட்டியம் சேவித்தல் என அனைத்து கைங்கர்யங்களிலும்  மிளிர்ந்தான்.  திருமடைப்பள்ளி கைங்கர்யம், அதுவும் மிக உஷ்ண நிலையிலுள்ள பிரசாதங்களை கொண்ட பெரிய பாத்திரங்களை லாகவமாக கையாண்டு, பக்தர்களுக்கு சிந்தாமல், சரியாக ஒரே அளவில் விநியோகம் செய்த சிறப்பாளன்.  

அல்லிக்கேணி அருளிச்செயல் கோஷ்டி - திரு பாலாஜி இடது ஓரத்தில் - அவர் தந்தை வலது ஓரத்தில்.

 

இது தவிர வாகனங்கள் ஓட்டுதல், நல்ல பேச்சு திறம், அபார ஞாபக சக்தி, அலுவலக மேலாண்மை, படம்பிடித்தல் என பற்பல திறைமைகளை வெளிக்காட்டினான்.  முக்கியமாக எம்பெருமானுக்கு கைங்கர்யங்களில் அவனது ஈடுபாடும்,  உத்வேகமும், இளமை ததும்பும் ஆனந்தமும் - இவையெல்லாம் எப்படி என பிரமிக்க வைக்கும்.  திருக்கோவில் சம்பிரதாயத்தை நன்கு தெரிந்து கொண்டு, பல சபைகளில் நிர்வாகியாக, சம்பிரதாயத்தை காத்து, பக்தி மார்க்கத்தில் நிறைய இளைஞர்களை ஈடுபடுத்தினான் 

பெரிய குடும்பம் இவர்களது - தந்தை திரு மெய்யூர் ஆதி கோபாலகிருஷ்ணமாச்சார்; தாயார் (மறைந்த) திருமதி ஜெயமணி.  சகோதரர்கள் - திரு ரங்கராஜன், திரு முரளி, திரு நாராயணன், திரு, ரவி, திரு சடகோபன் மற்றும் ஸ்ரீமதி.  இவர்கள் குடும்ப ஒற்றுமையும் பாசப்பிணைப்பும் ஒரு சிறந்த முன்னுதாரணம்.  எங்கள் ஸ்ரீனிவாஸ் இளைஞர் நற்பணி சங்கத்தில் ஆரம்ப நாள் உறுப்பினர்; திருவல்லிக்கேணி பிராம்மணர் சங்க நிர்வாகி, திருக்கோவில் பஞ்சாங்கம், பிராம்மணர் சங்க பஞ்சாங்க வேலைகளை சிறப்புற புண்ணியவன் என நினைவலைகள் நீண்டு கொண்டே போகிறது.

சம்பிரதாய விஷயங்களை நன்கு அறிந்தவர் - திருக்கோவில் நடைமுறைகளை மனப்பாடமாக முறை மாறாமல் சொல்லவல்லவர். அனைவருடன் பழகியவர் எம்பெருமானிடத்தில் கைங்கர்யத்தில்   விசேஷ ஈடுபாட்டுடன், அவரைப் போன்று செய்வது மிகவும் கடினம். இன்று காலை திரு மெய்யூர் ஆதி சௌந்தரராஜன் எனும் பாலாஜி சுவாமி மறைந்து விட்டார் என்ற செய்தி பேரிடியாக இறங்கியது.  இவர் மறைவு வைகுந்தத்துக்கு ஏற்றம், இவ்வைஷ்ணவ உலகிற்கு பேர் இழப்பு. அவர் நித்திய விபூதியில் எம்பெருமான் கைங்கர்யத்துக்கு எழுந்தருளிவிட்டார். கைங்கர்யத்தால் நம்  மனதை கவர்ந்த   நம் பாலாஜி ஸ்வாமி இன்று தம் 59ம் வயதில் திருநாட்டை அலங்கரிக்க, திருவல்லிக்கேணிவாசிகள் நூற்றுக்கணக்கானோர் கண்ணீருடன் வழி அனுப்ப, சென்று விட்டார்.  

அவர் மறைவால் வாடும் அவர்தம் மனைவி, அவர் குமாரர் பதரி நாராயணன், அவர் சகோதரர்கள், சகோதரி, மற்ற உறவினருக்கு இந்த பிரிவை தாங்கும் மனோ பலத்தை அருளி, அவர்களை காத்தருள, நம் ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமானை வேண்டுகிறேன்.  

A few years ago – happened to be at his home when SYMA’s news letter Bliss (of which Yours Truly was the Editor) was delivered.  He came down with a copy in his hands.  I queried him on why not he spend a few minutes to read ?   It was hardly couple of minutes as it had reached him – he spontaneously reproduced the Q that was on page 3 and commented on the answer on page 4 too.  A man capable of Fast reading much as Chitti, the humanoid in Rajni starrer Enthiran (Robot) would do!   Decades before that  Sujatha wrote in ‘Mr Munsamy oru  1.2.1’ – of  a roadside rickshaw puller acquiring  super memory by an injection that were to last only for a short period !!  

If my thoughts are incoherent, forgive me,  I knew Balaji for atleast 50+ years, interacted frequently, admired him for his youthful exuberance and committed kainkaryam.  Heard he was unwell and had been hospitalized – but knowing him, expected him to bounce back with renewed vigour.  Sad, he is no more !  

Triplicane would miss characters like him and a great loss to our Srivaishnava samprathayam.

Swami U. Ve. Madhurakavi Annaviyar passes away !

Sad to hear the passing away of sampradhaya semmal Madhurakavi Annaviyar swami.

 

Sri Vaishnavam  dates back to centuries – following glorious principles  handed over to us through many generations by our Azhwargal and later by  Acharyars which include Sri Ramanujar and Sri Manavalamanunigal.   

    ஸ்ரீ மதுரகவி ஆழ்வார் ஈஸ்வர வருடம், சித்திரை மாதம், சுக்ல பக்ஷ சதுர்த்தசி திதியில் சித்திரை நக்ஷத்ரம் அன்று திருக்கோளூர் என்னும் திவ்யதேசத்தில் வைநதேயத்தின் அம்சமாக திருவவதாரம் செய்தருளினார். ஆழ்வார் ஞான பக்தி வைராக்யங்கள் நிரம்பப் பெற்றவர். ஸ்வாமி  நம்மாழ்வாரை மட்டுமே கொண்டாடிய மதுரகவியாழ்வார் நம்மாழ்வாரின் மறைவுக்கு பின்னர் அவருடைய தங்கத்தினாலான திருமேனியை ஊர் ஊராக எடுத்துச் சென்று அவர் புகழ் பாடி வந்தார்.   

"தேவு மற்றறியேன்" என ஆசார்யனான  நம்மாழ்வாரை மட்டுமே பூஜித்த மதுரகவிகள், கண்ணிநுண் சிறுத்தாம்பு பிரபந்த  பதினொரு பாடல்களிலும் எம்பெருமானைப் பற்றி கூட  பாடாமல் தனது ஆச்சாரியரான நம்மாழ்வாரை பற்றி மட்டும் பாடியிருப்பதன் மூலம் ஆச்சாரிய சம்பந்தத்தின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை நாம் அறியலாம்.  இவரது வம்சத்தவர் சுவாமி மதுரகவி அண்ணாவியார்.    ஸ்ரீ உ வே மதுரகவி வகுளாபரண பட்டர் அண்ணாவியார் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் சுவாமி  தம் 75வது வயதில்  இன்று திருநாடு அலங்கரித்தார் 

சம்பிரதாய புலமை சிறப்புற பெற்று, ஆழ்வார் திருநகரியில் கைங்கர்யம் செய்து வந்த இவர், அற்புதமாக கவிதை எழுத வல்லவர். மறைந்த கவிஞர் கண்ணதாசன் போன்றொருடன் நட்பு கொண்டவர். திருவல்லிக்கேணி ஏனைய திவ்யதேசங்கள் சென்று வருவார். திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் ஸ்ரீமன் MA வேங்கடகிருஷ்ணன் கீதாசார்யன் பத்திரிகை ஆரம்பித்த காலத்தில் (1977 முதலே) இவருடன் சற்று பரிச்சயம் ஏற்பட்டது.  ஓரிரு தடவை நவ திருப்பதி செல்லும்போது இவரை சந்தித்து அளவளாவி இருக்கிறேன். மிக அன்புடன், இன்சொல் பேசி பழகும் சமர்த்தர்.

 

இவரது மறைவு ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவ பேரவைக்கு, நம் தென்னாசார்ய சம்பிரதாயத்திற்கு பேரிழப்பு.  மண்ணுலகில் இருந்து சென்று ஸ்ரீமன் நாரணனுக்கு அங்கேயே கைங்கர்யம் அவரே அழைத்துக்கொண்டார் போலும்.

Thiruvallikkeni Adhyapakar Sri U.Ve. Palappur Sowrirajan swami is no more !

 With profound grief heard the passing away of Thiruvallikkeni Adhyapakar Sri U.Ve. Palappur Sowrirajan Swami 

இன்று திருவல்லிக்கேணி அத்யாபகர் ஸ்ரீ உ.வே. சௌரிராஜ அய்யங்கார் சுவாமி மறைவு மிகுந்த துயரத்தை அளிக்கிறது.  அன்னாருக்கு வயது 74.  

இவர் பரம ஸௌலப்யர் - மிக இனிமையாக இன்சொற்களால் மற்றவருடன் பேசுவார்.  நன்றாக திவ்யப்ரபந்தம் சேவிக்கும் வித்துவான். ஸ்ரீ முதலியாண்டான் திருவடி சம்பந்தம் கொண்ட இவர் திருவல்லிக்கேணியிலும் பல திவ்யதேசங்களிலும் கைங்கர்யம் செய்து வந்தார்.  ரயில்வே தபால் அலுவலகத்தில் பணியாற்றினதால் இரயிலில் பல ஊர்கள் சென்று வந்தவர்.  இவரது மகனும் அருளிச்செயல் கைங்கர்யம் செய்து வருகிறார்.   

சில வருஷங்கள் வெங்கட்ரங்கம் தெருவில் விஜய் அவென்யூ முன்பு உள்ள ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி சபா உள்ள அடுக்ககத்தில் வசித்தார்.  சமீபத்தில் துளசிங்க பெருமாள் 2ம் தெருவில் வசித்து வந்தார்.  சில காலமாக உடல் நலம் சரியின்மையால் அவதிப்பட்டார்.  இவரது மனைவி சமீபத்தில் மறைந்தார்.  

ஸ்வாமி அனைவருடனும் அன்போடு இருப்பார்.  அனைவருக்கும் தன் கையில் உள்ள பிரசாதத்தை வழங்குவார்.  எங்கள் இல்லத்திற்க்கு வந்து பலதடவை பெருமாள் பிரசாதங்களை அளித்ததை கண்ணீருடன் நினைவு கூறுகிறேன்.   

ஸ்வாமியின் மறைவு நமது ஸம்ப்ரதாயத்திற்கு ஒரு பேரிழப்பு.  

அடியோங்களிடத்தில் மிகவும் அன்பும் வாஞ்சையும் காட்டி வந்தார்.  ஸ்வாமியின்  சரமகைங்கர்யம் நாளை 7.3.2023  காலை 11 மணிக்கு நடைபெற உள்ளதாக அறிகின்றோம் சுவாமியை  பிரிந்து வாடும் அன்னாருடைய மகன், மகள்களுக்கு - இந்த பெரிய துயரத்தை தாங்கும் நிலையை அளிக்க எம்பெருமானிடம் வேண்டுவோம்.

Sri TCA Ramanujam is no more ! - a pillar of Thennacharya samprathayam

It is very sad news that Thennacharya Sampradhayam has lost one of its doyens who did yeoman service !!

The Government of India Act 1919 was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, passed to expand participation of Indians in the government of India. The Act embodied the reforms recommended in the report of the Secretary of State for India, Edwin Montagu, and the Viceroy, Chelmsford.  

While many aspire for IAS & IPS – IRS is relatively unknown.  The Indian Revenue Service (Bhāratīya Rājasva Sevā),  is an Indian government agency that is primarily responsible for collecting and administering direct and indirect taxes.  Direct tax in the form of an income tax was introduced by Sir James Wilson (Britisher) in India in 1860 to overcome the difficulties created by the Indian Rebellion of 1857.  

The doyen once wrote an article on “Generalist vs. the Specialist”  stating that the Ministry of Finance is always headed by an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. The Revenue Secretary, the Expenditure Secretary and the Finance Secretary are all drawn from the IAS despite the fact that they have little experience in handling the economy.  On the other hand, the CBDT is managed by IRS officers with rich field experience.   At the time of the Budget, it is an IAS officer who accompanies the Finance Minister for the press briefing. The IRS officer is totally invisible, despite the Budget being the handiwork of hard-working IRS officers.  .. .. and concluded stating that  IAS maybe the ‘steel frame of India’ but the steel frame has been rusting for quite some time. Can the IRS be given their due and be allowed to play a normal role? The present controversy reignites the debate on the generalist versus the specialist.

The man who articulated thus and who was a great practitioner of Thennacharya sampradhayam is no more ! .. .. the tall man, now afflicted with old age would walk measured steps, coming often to Thiruvallikkeni, Kanchipuram and every year to Thirumala for Ananthazhwan uthsavam too. 

TCA Ramanujam, Retired Chief Commissioner of Income Tax; Advocate, an erudite Sanskrit scholar and a columnist with leadig dailies, passed away on 21.2.2023. He was 88. He is survived by his son, Arvind Rangarajan, and daughter, TCA Sangeetha.

Sri Ramanujam had been to Tirupati to deliver the keynote address at the Thirumalai Ananthanpillai uthsaam  and returned to Chennai.  He complained of uneasiness and was admitted at a private hospital where he died on Tuesday at 11.30 pm, said Sangeetha.

Sri Ramanujam retired in 1992 as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax and served as a member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal for a year. He resumed practice as an advocate and represented the Income Tax department as a senior standing counsel in 2002.  He had a degree in MA Economics from the Vivekananda College, a law degree from the Madras Law College, and later served in Indian Revenue Service.

He began his journey as a tax columnist in the Indian Express in 1992 and later in businessline in 1995. An erudite tax jurist, he began the journal section in the Income Tax reporter, along with his daughter, an advocate in the Madras High Court, who has co-authored many articles along with her father.

A member of the Madras Music Academy, he rarely missed his favourite concerts.  He was a versatile scholar and economist, varied interests, including music, dance, literature (English and Tamil), but his heart was at  Vedas, divyaprabantham, samprathayam and temples.  He has fought many cases in various Courts upholding Thennacharya sampradhayam and even at his  old age, he argued in person and secured court orders to safeguard the age old customs and practices of Kanchipuram Sri Varadharajaperumal temple.

In his death, his family has lost a noble person and We have lost a doyen in our sampradhayam.  Triplicanites know him too well and I had the opportunity of moving in close quarters during Dr MA Venkatakrishnan Swami sashtiabdapoorthi celebrations as were the core members of the Committee.

Praying Emperuman to give the strength to his family and the extended family of sampradhayam to bear his irreparable loss.
