நாகப்பட்டினம் மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள வேதாரண்யம் திருமறைக்காடர் கோயில் (திருமறைக்காடு), தேவாரப் பாடல் பெற்ற காவிரி தென்கரைத் தலங்களில் 125-ஆவது சிவத்தலமாகும். மூலவர் திருமறைக்காடர் (வேதாரண்யேசுவரர்), இறைவி வேதநாயகி. அப்பர், சம்பந்தர் பாடி கதவு திறக்கச் செய்த தலமாகவும், நான்கு வேதங்களும் சிவனை வழிபட்ட தலமாகவும், சப்த விடங்கத் தலங்களில் ஒன்றாகவும் இது போற்றப்படுகிறது. 

வேதாரண்யேஸ்வரர் கோவிலில், நெடுங்காலமாக மூடப்பட்டிருந்த பிரதான கதவை, திருநாவுக்கரசர் (அப்பர்) பதிகம் பாடி திறக்க, திருஞானசம்பந்தர் பதிகம் பாடி மூடிய அற்புத நிகழ்வு நடைபெற்றது.  ரிக், யஜூர், சாம, அதர்வணம் ஆகிய நான்கு வேதங்களும் சிவபெருமானை வழிபட்ட தலம் திருமறைக்காடு.  கலியுகத்தின் தொடக்கத்தில், இனியும் பூமியில் இருப்பது உசிதமல்ல என்று உணர்ந்த வேதங்கள், திருமறைக்காடு கோவிலின் முன்பக்கக் கதவைப் பூட்டிவிட்டுச் சென்றுவிடுகின்றன. அப்போது முதல் அந்த ஊர் மக்கள் பக்கவாட்டில் உள்ள சிறிய வாசல் வழியாகச் சென்று இறைவனை வணங்க ஆரம்பித்தனர். பல ஆண்டுகாலம் இந்த நிலையே தொடர்ந்தது. சிவாலயங்களுக்குச் சென்று தரிசித்து, பதிகங்களைப் பாடிவந்த திருநாவுக்கரசரும் (அப்பர்) திருஞானசம்பந்தரும் ஒருசேர திருமறைக்காடு வந்தடைந்தனர். கோவிலின் முன்பக்கக் கதவு மூடியிருக்கவே, மக்கள் அனைவரும் திட்டிவாசல் கதவு வழியாகக் கோவிலுக்குச் சென்று வருவதைக் கண்டு துணுக்குற்றனர். அங்கிருந்த சிவனடியார்களிடம் கோவிலின் பிரதான வாசல் கதவு மூடியிருப்பதன் காரணத்தைக் கேட்டறிந்தனர். வேதங்களைக் கற்றுத் தெளிந்த மறையோர்கள் பலர் முயன்றும் தாழிட்ட கதவுகளைத் திறக்க முடியவில்லை என்பதைத் தெரிந்து கொண்டனர். 

திருஞானசம்பந்தர் உடனே நாவுக்கரசரை நோக்கி, “அப்பரே! வேதங்கள் ஆராதித்த வழியில்தான் நாம் கோவிலுக்குள் செல்ல வேண்டும். எனவே பூட்டியிருக்கும் கதவைத் திறக்க நீங்கள் பதிகம் பாடுங்கள்,” என்று அன்புடன் கேட்டுக் கொள்ள, அவர் பாடிய பாசுரம்

 

“பண்ணின் நேர்மொழியாளுமை பங்கரோ

மண்ணினார் வலஞ் செய்ம்மறைக் காடரோ

கண்ணினாலுமைக் காணக் கதவினைத்

திண்ணமாகத் திறந்தருள் செய்ம்மினே” 

என்று பத்து பதிகங்களைப் பாடி முடித்தார் அப்பர். பதினோராவது பதிகத்தைப் பாடியதும், ஆலயத்தின் மணிகள் தாமாகவே ஒலிக்க, கதவின் தாழ்ப்பாள் தானாகவே விலகி கதவு திறந்தது.  இந்த நிகழ்வு இத்தலத்தில் இன்றளவும் மாசி மாதத்தில் நடக்கும் பிரம்மோற்சவ விழாவில் ஏழாம் நாள் நிகழ்வில் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

Navarathri Uthsavam - ஏரார்முயல்விட்டு காக்கைப்பின் போவதே?

காலை வேளைகளில் மரங்கள் அடர்ந்த பகுதியில் கிளிகள் கீச் கீச் என்று சத்தம் எழுப்பும்.  கிளிகளின் குரலை 'பேசுதல்' என்கின்றனர். 

 

புரட்டாசி மாதம் ஒரு புனித மாதம்; பக்தர்களுக்கு சிறந்த மாதம். எல்லா ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவ தலங்களிலும் பக்தர்கள் கூட்டம் அலைமோதும்.  திருவேங்கடவன் இப்புவியில் அவதரித்த மாதம் ஆனதால் பக்தர்கள் திருமலை திருப்திக்கு திரளாக சென்று வணங்குகின்றனர்.   புரட்டாசி மாதத்தில் திருமலையில் "பிரம்மோத்சவம்" சிறப்புற நடைபெறுகிறது. புரட்டாசி மாதத்தில்தான் "நவராத்திரி" வருகிறது.  புரட்டாசி வளர்பிறை பிரதமை முதல் நவமி வரை ஒன்பது நாட்கள் கொண்டாடப்படும் விழா நவராத்திரி விழா.    திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்யதேசத்தில் நாளை சரஸ்வதி பூஜை.  ஞாயிறு 13.10.2024 அன்று விஜயதசமி. 

எல்லா ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவ திவ்யதேசங்களிலும் நவராத்திரி சிறப்புற கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.  திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்யதேசத்திலே - நவராத்திரி நாட்களில் ஸ்ரீ வேதவல்லி தாயார் வாகனங்களில் உள்புறப்பாடு நடைபெறுகிறது. இரண்டாம் உத்சவத்தன்று ஸ்ரீ வேதவல்லி தாயார் கிளி வாகனத்தில் புறப்பாடு கண்டருள்கிறார்.  நவராத்திரி புறப்பாடு எல்லா நாட்களிலும் திருமங்கை மன்னன் அருளிச்செய்த 'சிறிய திருமடல்' சேவிக்கப்பெறுகிறது.  நிறைய சிறுவர்களும் அருளிச்செயல் கோஷ்டியில் கலந்து கொண்டு உச்சஸ்தாயி குரலில் மடல் சேவிப்பது மிக அருமையாக, இனிமையாக, இருக்கும்.

 

இனிய நற் சொற்கள் இருக்கின்ற போது ஒருவன் இன்னாத - கொடிய, தவறான  சொற்களைக் கூறுதல்,  இனிக்கும் சுவை மிகுந்த  கனி இருக்க  காயைத் தின்பது போன்றதே என்பது திருவள்ளுவரின் வாய்மொழி.

திருமங்கை மன்னன் சிறியமடல் பாசுரத்தில்  -  ஏரார்முயல்விட்டு காக்கைப்பின் போவதே?  என வினவுகிறார்.     கறுப்பு நிறம் கொண்ட காக்கை அப்படி ஒன்றும் மனிதர்களுக்கு பிடித்ததன்று!  (மனிதர்கள் வேலைகளை செய்துகொள்ள காக்காய் பிடித்தல் வேறு ரகம்) -  இப்பூவுலகில் மனிதர்கள் பலர் அழகான ஒன்றை பார்க்கும் பொது ஏனைய பிறவற்றை விலக்கி எள்ளி நகையாடுவர்.  வெள்ளை நிற  முயல்கள் மிக அழகானவை.  இன்பத்தை விட்டு விட்டு சாதாரனவற்றை தேடி அலைவது முயலை விட்டு விட்டுக் காக்கையின் பின் போவது போன்றது என்று சிறிய திருமடல் கூறுகிறது.

 

அழகிய முயலைவிட்டு-   அழகற்ற, உபயோகமற்ற காக்கையின் பின்னே தொடர்ந்து போவாருமுண்டோ?  நிலத்திலே ஓடுவது முயல், மரங்களின் மேலே பறந்து திரிவது காக்கை, மாம்ஸம் வேண்டியவன் கைப்பட்ட முயலைவிட்டுக் கைப்பட அரியதும் கைப்பட்டாலும் உபயோகப்படாத்துமான காக்கையைப் பின்பற்றித்திரிதல் எப்படி அவிவேகிக்ருத்யமோ, அப்படியே எளிதாயும் ரஸவத்தரமாயுமுள்ள அர்ச்சாவதார போகத்தைவிட்டு அரிதாயும் அஸாரமாயுமுள்ள மோக்ஷபோகத்தைப்பெற விரும்புகையும் பேதைமையின் பணி என்றாராயிற்று. இதே கருத்து சைவ திருமுறை பாசுரத்தில் உள்ளது. நக்கீரதேவ நாயனாரால் எழுதப்பட்ட 'கோபப் பிரசாதம்' எனும்   நூல்  ஆசிரியப்பாவால் ஆனது. புலவர் கூற்றுவன் மேல் கோபம் கொண்டு பாடிய செய்தியைக் கொண்டது.  பயனற்ற செயல்களைச் செய்கின்ற மக்களை, யமன் கொண்டு போகாமல் இன்னும் உலகில் வைத்திருப்பது ஏன் என்று, இயமன் மீது கோபம் கொண்டு பாடிய பாடல். ஆதலால், "கோபப் பிரசாதம்" எனப்பட்டது.

இனைய தன்மையன் என்றறி வரியவன்  .. ..

தனைமுன் விட்டுத் தாம்மற்று நினைப்போர்

இதோ இங்கே நாச்சியார் கோவில் திவ்யதேசத்தில் கிளி வாகனத்தில் அருள் பாலித்த ஸ்ரீவஞ்சுளவல்லி தாயார் சேவை.  இரண்டொரு வருஷங்கள் முன்பு ப்ரஹ்மோத்சவத்தில் எடுக்கப்பட்டது.

Of the many birds  “Parrots”  attract us with their beauty, wisdom, colour, speaking capability and more .. .. .. The parrots are a broad order of more than 350 birds. Macaws, Amazons, lorikeets, lovebirds, cockatoos and many others are all considered parrots.   All parrots have curved beaks and all are zygodactyls, meaning they have four toes on each foot, two pointing forward and two projecting backward. Most parrots eat fruit, flowers, buds, nuts, seeds, and some small creatures such as insects.

 

Many parrots are kept as pets, especially macaws, Amazon parrots, cockatiels, parakeets, and cockatoos. These birds have been popular companions throughout history because they are intelligent, charismatic, colorful, and musical. Some birds can imitate many nonavian sounds, including human speech. 

பச்சை கிளிகளின் நிறம், அழகு, சத்தம், நம்மை ஈர்ப்பன.  கிளி சித்தாசிடே குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்த பறவை. -  சுமார் 86 இனங்களைச் சார்ந்த 372 வகைகள் உள்ளனவாம் . கிளிகள் மிகவும் பிரபலமான செல்லப்பிராணிகளாக இருக்க காரணம், அவைகளின் ஒலிகளைக் கற்கும் மற்றும் பின்பற்றும் திறன். . ஆப்பிரிக்க சாம்பல் கிளிகள், அமேசான் கிளிகள் ஒலிகளைப் பின்பற்றுவதில் சிறந்தவை.  ஒரு ஆப்பிரிக்க சாம்பல் கிளி 100 வார்த்தைகளுக்கு மேல் பேசக்கூடியதாம்.

'பறவைகள் கத்துமா !'   இவ்வாறு கூறுவது மரபு வழு. ஏனெனில், பறவைகளின் குரலுக்கு சரியான தமிழ் சொற்கள் வழக்கத்தில் உள்ளன.  :  ஆந்தை - அலறும்; காகம் கரையும்; கிளி          பேசும்; குயில்        கூவும்; கூகை        குழறும்; கோழி கொக்கரிக்கும்; சேவல் கூவும்; மயில் அகவும்; வண்டு      முரலும் !

எம்பெருமானிடத்தில் தீராக் காதல் கொண்டு, அவனையே அடைவதற்கு நோன்பு இருக்கும் ஆண்டாள் நாச்சியார் வளர்க்கும்   கிளியானது முன்பு கற்பித்து வைத்த திருநாமத்தை  - கோவிந்தா, கோவிந்தா, என உச்சரிக்துக்கொண்டு,   அங்கே இங்கே திரிய நலிவுற்ற கோதை,  கூட்டிலே பிடித்து அடைத்தால்  - கண்ணன் நாமமே குழறிக் கொல்ல  அக்கிளி கூட்டில் அடைப்பட்டபோது  அவன் நாமமான உலகளந்தான் என உயர கூவிற்றாம்  !!

சமீபத்தில் படித்த ஒரு செய்தி :  உரிய  அனுமதி பெறாமல், வீட்டில் வெளிநாட்டு ரக கிளைகளை வளர்த்த நடிகர் ரோபோ சங்கருக்கு வனத்துறை சார்பில் ரூ.2.5 லட்சம் அபராதம் விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.  சென்னை சாலிகிராமத்தில் உள்ள சிரிப்பு  நடிகர் ரோபோ சங்கர் வீட்டில் அனுமதியின்றி வளர்த்து வந்த இரு அலெக்சாண்டரியன் பச்சை கிளிகளை கிண்டி வனத் துறையினர் பறிமுதல் செய்து கிண்டியில் உள்ள நேசனல் சிறுவர் பூங்காவில் ஒப்படைத்துள்ளனர்.   அழிவின் விளிம்பில் உள்ள பறவையினங்களின் பட்டியலில்,  பச்சை கிளிகள் உள்ளதால்,  இந்த வகை கிளிகளை வீடுகளில் வளர்ப்பதும், விற்பதும் சட்டப்படி குற்றமாகும். வனவிலங்குகள் (பாதுகாப்பு) சட்டம், 1972 இல் பட்டியலிடப்பட்ட இந்தியப் பறவையான அலெக்ஸாண்ட்ரின் கிளி வளர்ப்பவர்கள் பிடிபட்டால், 6 மாத சிறைதண்டனை அல்லது அபராதம் விதிக்கப்படுமாம்.

~ Andal the quintessential devotee draws reference to the caged parrot which keeps calling the names of Lord as ‘Govindha, Govinda’ ~ when it is not fed and starved as a punishment, it shouts more as ‘Lord who measured the Earth’…… Andal pleads that she be taken to Dwaraka, the city that has  high spired domes as She should be taken to the place of Lord Krishna, lest there will be words of abuse from the World.

Elephants are closely associated with God in our philosophy and parrots do occupy a high position.  Parrots, also known as psittacines are birds of the roughly 372 species in 86 genera.  They are found in most tropical and subtropical regions.  From time immemorial parrots are kept as pets, especially macaws, Amazon parrots, cockatiels, parakeets, and cockatoos. These birds have been popular companions throughout history because they are intelligent, charismatic, colorful, and musical. Some birds can imitate many nonavian sounds, including human speech. 

The primordial Divyadesam at Thiruvarangam enclosed by the holy river Kaveri is Ramayana-centric as the reclining Lord Ranganathar was worshipped by the Ikshvaku dynasty and was gifted to Vibhishana by Rama.  There is the ‘Kili mandapam’  [hall of parrot] just outside the precincts of Sanctum Sanctorum ~ here is ‘Kannan Kovil’ where Lord Krishna with his family of Vasudeva, Devaki and Rohini are worshipped.  

Thinking of parrots [kili] naturally leads to Sri Andal at Sri Villiputhur.  It is the birth place of Andal and Periyazhwar.  The temple tower of Sri Vadapathra Sayee Perumal is the emblem of the Tamil Nadu State Government.  Here [as also in many other divyadesams] Sri Andal has the parrot in her hand…  In her Nachiyar Thirumozhi, Andal sends cuckoo as her envoy and she promises that in return she would befriend her pet parrot which is being brought up by providing milk and sweet rice. The exquisite parrot that adorns the shoulder of Andal is a treat to watch, especially at Srivilliputhur.

S. Raman has an unusual profession… everyday, he makes a fresh, eco-friendly parrot that adorns Andal.

In Her ‘Nachiar Tirumozhi’ (5th Decad, 5th verse), Andal refers fondly to Her parrot as ‘Paal amudhootti edutha en kolakkili’- a parrot that’s fed on milk. In Her verse, Andal speaks of three birds - the swan, the cuckoo and the parrot.

Dr. M.A. Venkatakrishnan explains the significance of this verse. In the sloka, ‘Koojantam Rama Rameti,’ Valmiki is referred to as a cuckoo -- Valmiki kokilam. Sukabrahma Rishi narrated the story of Lord Krishna. Suka also means parrot in Sanskrit. So Andal, by singing about the cuckoo and the parrot, may be said to be referring to the narrators of the stories of Rama and Krishna, respectively. The reference to the swan is Andal’s way of referring to the Acharyas, who are invariably compared to swans because of their discerning capacity.

When the Andal utsavar idol is taken on processions in Srivilliputhur, a golden, gem studded parrot adorns Her. But when She returns to the temple, she is seen holding a parrot made of green leaves!  S. Raman, who makes this parrot, says, “It takes me four and a half hours to make the bird.” Everyday, a fresh parrot is made, which adorns Andal for roughly the same time as it takes to make it. “Once R. Venkatraman, the then President of India, asked if he could have the parrot at the end of the day, and the executive officer of the temple sent it to Rashtrapathi Bhavan!” says Raman.

He twists around his fingers a bunch of fibres from the stem of the banana plant, drawn into thin strands, and shapes the threads to resemble a parrot. These fibres are covered with tapioca leaves. A pomegranate flower is cut into two, and is used to make the beak and the mouth. Bamboo sticks are used for the legs. These are covered with the petals of pink oleander and nandiyavattai (Ervatamia coronaria). Palm fronds are cut and used for the tail and wings. A glittering stone called kakkaipon, that is obtained when wells are dug, is broken and shaped to resemble the parrot’s eyes. “These days few people dig wells. So it’s difficult to get these stones. Luckily, I have a good collection,” Raman says, as his fingers work deftly.

The pomegranate flowers come from the temple garden. All the other leaves and flowers come from a nearby village called Malli. “Once in two days, I go to Malli and collect what I need,” Raman says. How does he ensure that the leaves and flowers don’t wilt? “I keep them in the shade and covered. I don’t expose them to heat,” he says. In fact he is reluctant to pose with the parrot, because the parrot isn’t completely ready yet, and he is afraid that holding it where there is sufficient light to enable the photographer to get a good picture, will make the leaves wither.

Raman is the fifth generation lineal descendant of a gentleman who made Andal’s parrots. “But long before that, people in my family made these parrots for the temple,” says Raman. What is his profession? “I am content to make the parrots for Andal. That’s all I know.” Wealthy devotees may gift jewellery and silks to Andal, but one can’t help feeling that She will be partial to Raman’s parrots, for they are a labour of love. Raman’s work is an everyday affirmation of his faith and devotion.
