Avani Amavasai 2026 – நமஞ்சூழ் நரகத்து தம்மை நணுகாமல் காப்பான்

இப்புவியில் இவ்வளவு பாவங்களை செய்யும் நாம் எங்கு சென்று உழல்வோம் ?  ~ அத்தகைய நரகத்தில் நம்மை காக்கவல்லன் எவன் ?? ஆழ்வார் பாடல்களிலே தமிழ் வார்த்தை சொல்லாடலும், மணமும் கமழும்.  தமிழ் தலைவன் என கொண்டாடப்படும் ஸ்ரீ பேயாழ்வார் தம் மூன்றாம் திருவந்தாதி தனிலே ~ 'அமம், துரகம் ' - என்னே ஒரு சொல்லாடல் !   

Today, 10.9.2026, is Avani Amavasai. On this occasion, Sri Parthasarathi Perumal had Periya Mada Veethi Purappadu at Thiruvallikkeni Divyadesam.

Amavasai is commonly described as the ‘no-moon day’, though its English astronomical equivalent is rather curiously called the New Moon.   Astronomically, the New Moon occurs when the Sun and the Moon are approximately in the same direction as seen from Earth. At this phase, the illuminated side of the Moon faces away from us and the lunar disc is therefore normally invisible to the naked eye.

The New Moon rises and sets roughly along with the Sun and remains close to the Sun in the daytime sky. Its faint disc is lost in the Sun's glare. Only under the special alignment of a solar eclipse does the Moon become dramatically visible as it passes across the face of the Sun.  A day or two later, as the Moon moves away from the Sun in the sky, the first slender crescent becomes visible after sunset. From there begins the waxing phase — the Moon appearing progressively brighter night after night.

The Moon — Nilavu, Chandamama — has always been associated with beauty, serenity and joy. The gradually growing Moon also naturally evokes a sense of hope and renewal. For us, Srivaishnavas, however, our ultimate faith is in surrender at His Lotus Feet. He who sustains the mountains, the vast skies, the winds and the entire universe will surely protect us from every suffering — even from the dreaded Naraka.

கிருஷ்ணாவதாரத்தில் தன்னை விழுங்கிக் கொல்லுமாறு கம்ஸனாலே ஏவப்பட்டு பெரியகுதிரை வடிவங்கொண்டு வந்த கேசியென்னும் அஸுரனை வாய்ப்பிளந்தொழித்த கண்ணபிரானே நரகத்தில் நின்றும் நம்மைக் காத்தருள்வனென்கிறார் பேயாழ்வார். 'அமஞ்சூழ்ந்து' – அமமாவது நோய், மலையும் வீசும்பும் காற்றும் நோவுபடும்படியாக, எனவே இவற்றைத் திரஸ்கரித்து மேலாக விளங்குகின்ற குதிரை என்றதாம். 'துரகம்' – வடசொல், வேகமாகச் செல்வது என்று காரணக் குறி. இமஞ்சூழ் மலையும் இருவிசும்பும் காற்றும்,

அமஞ்சூழ்ந்து  அறவிளங்கித் தோன்றும், - நமஞ்சூழ்

நரகத்து தம்மை நணுகாமல் காப்பான்,

துரகத்தை வாய்பிளந்தான் தொட்டு.  

பனியாலே சூழப்பட்டிருக்கிற வெள்ளிப்பனி  இமயமலையையும், பெரிய ஆகாயத்தையும், வாயுவையும், அமம் சூழ்ந்து (பருமனாலும் உயர்த்தியாலும் வேகத்தாலும்) திரஸ்கரித்து, தெள்ளத்தெளிவாக விளங்கி  கண்ணெதிரே வந்து தோன்றின, குதிரைவடிவு கொண்டு வந்த கேசியென்னுமசுரனை, திருக்கையால் பற்றி - அந்த அரக்கன் தன்  வாயைக் கிழிந்துப்போட்ட பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன் , நம்மை, யமனைத் தலைவனாகக்கொண்ட நரகத்திலே புகவொட்டாமல் ரக்ஷித்தருள்வன் !  

Sri Peyazhwar beautifully reminds us of our eternal Protector — Sriman Narayana.

In Krishnavatara, when the mighty asura Kesi came in the terrifying form of a horse to destroy Krishna, the Lord seized him and tore open his mouth, putting an end to the demon.  Peyazhwar assures us that the very Lord who destroyed Kesi will prevent us from approaching the Naraka ruled over by Yama.  The imagery of the pasuram is striking. The enormous horse appears as though it could overwhelm the snow-clad mountains, the vast heavens and even the rushing winds. Yet such terrifying might proved powerless before the Lord. He who protects and sustains the mountains, the skies, the winds and all creation will surely protect those who surrender unto Him.

Let us therefore bow before Sriman Narayana, surrender at His Lotus Feet and seek the protection so beautifully proclaimed by Peyazhwar.

நம் சனாதன தர்மமும் ஹிந்து சமயமும் அற்புத வாழ்வியல் நெறிகள்.  நம்மை செம்மைப்படுத்தி நெறிப்படுத்தும் இந்த அற்புத தர்மத்தில் மிக சிறப்பான சடங்கு சம்பிரதாயங்களை நம் பூர்வர்கள் ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளனர். ஸ்ரீ வைணவ திருத்தலங்களில் ப்ரஹ்மோத்சவம்  சிறப்பானது.  பெரிய வாகனங்கள், பூமாலைகள், அழகு வஸ்திரங்கள், ஒன்று கூடும் மக்கள் என பலப்பல !!  .. .. .. இது எம்பெருமானுக்கு அற்புத கைங்கர்யம் செய்யும் அர்ச்சர்களுக்கு மரியாதை எனும் சிறப்பு ஏற்பாடு பற்றிய பதிவு.

திருஅல்லிக்கேணி திவ்யதேசத்தில் - இரண்டு பிரம்மோத்சவங்கள் சிறப்பாக நடக்கின்றன. ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் பிரம்மோத்சவம் ~ சித்திரை திருவோணத்தில் (Apr - May) நடக்கிறது. கோவில்களில் நரசிம்ஹர் உக்கிரமாக எழுந்தருளி இருப்பார்; அல்லிக்கேணியிலோ நரசிம்ஹர் அற்புத அழகுடன் சாந்த ஸ்வரூபிஆக, தெள்ளிய சிங்கனாய் - ஸ்ரீ அழகிய சிங்கர் என்ற திரு நாமத்துடன் எழுந்து அருளி உள்ளார். அழகிய சிங்கருக்கு ஆனி  மாதத்திலே  பிரம்மோத்சவம். கொரோனா காரணமாக 2020ல் உத்சவங்கள் நடைபெறவில்லை.. ..  

ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும்  பிரம்மோத்சவம் பத்து நாட்கள் நடைபெறுகிறது.  பத்து நாட்கள் என்று சொல்லப்பட்டாலும், - உத்சவத்துக்கு இரண்டு நாட்கள் முன்பு 'செல்வர் கொத்து’  எனும் செல்வர் உற்சவம் புஷ்ப பல்லக்குடன் துவங்குகிறது.  அடுத்த நாள்,  அங்குரார்ப்பணம்.   உத்சவ கால தொடக்க நாளில் 'த்வஜாரோஹணம்'  - கோவில் வாசலில் நுழைவாயிலை கடந்து உள்ள கொடிமரத்தில் கொடி  ஏற்றப்படுகிறது.  முப்பது முக்கோடி தேவர்களையும் வருவித்து, ஆவாஹனம் செய்து - தினமும்  வாகன புறப்பாடு  முன்பே - விஷ்வக்சேனர் சென்று எட்டு திக்கிலும்  தேவதைகளுக்கு  பலி சாதிக்கப்பெற்று உத்சவம் நடக்கிறது.  பல வாஹனங்களில் - தர்மாதி பீடம், கருட வாஹனம், அம்ச வாஹனம், சூர்யா சந்திர ப்ரபைகள், ஹனுமந்த, யானை, குதிரை வாகனங்கள் என ஒவ்வொரு வேளையுமே ஒவ்வொரு சிறப்பு.  திருத்தேர் அதி விசேஷம். ஒன்பதாம் நாள் காலை ஆளும் பல்லக்கில், பெருமாள் கணையாழியை தேடும் போர்வை களைதல் முடிந்து, ப்ரணயகலகம் 'மட்டையடி’ என கொண்டாடப்பட்டு, இரவு கண்ணாடி பல்லக்கு புறப்பாடு  முடிந்து, கொடி  இறங்குகிறது.  

பத்தாம் நாள் காலை புறப்பாடு கிடையாது.  ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி, ஆண்டாள் ஏக பீடத்தில், திரு தெள்ளியசிங்கர், சக்கரவர்த்தி திருமகன்,  ஸ்ரீ வரதர், ஸ்ரீ வேதவல்லி சமேத மன்னாதர்  ~ மற்றும் அனைத்து ஆழ்வார்கள் ஆசார்யர்கள் எழுந்து அருளப்பெற்று -  த்வாதச ஆராதனம் சிறக்கிறது.  பத்து நாட்கள் வீதிதனிலே - முதலாயிரம், இரண்டாவதாயிரம் (திருமொழி); இயற்பா சேவிக்கப்படுகிறது.  பத்தாம் நாள் - நம்மாழ்வார் அருளிச்செய்த திருவாய்மொழி சேவிக்கப்படுகிறது.  இரவு வெட்டிவேர் தேர் எனும் சிறிய திருத்தேரில் புறப்பாடு நடக்கிறது.  புறப்பாடு முடிய இரவு சுமார் 10.30 மணி ஆகிறது.  ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான் உள்ளே எழுந்தருளி, பட்டர் சப்தாவரணம் நடத்துகிறார். உத்சவ கால விவரணங்கள் நம் முன்னோர்களால்  மிக அழகாக  வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.  

நள்ளிரவில் - ப்ரம்மோத்சவத்தை காப்பு கட்டிக்கொண்டு சிறப்புற நடத்திய பட்டருக்கு மரியாதை.  திருக்கோவில் திருச்சின்னங்கள், திருக்குடைகள், அத்யாபகர் ஸ்வாமிகள், பரிஜனங்கள் கூட, பட்டரை அவர் தம் திருமாளிகைக்கு  சென்று அங்கே வேத விண்ணப்பத்துடன் இவ்விழா முடிவடைகிறது.   இவ்வருடம், சிறப்புற நடந்தேறிய ப்ரம்மோத்சவத்தின் முடிவில் – 26.4.2022 நள்ளிரவில் பெரியமுறை மிராசுதாரர் ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி பட்டர் சுவாமி மரியாதை வைபவத்தின் போது அடியேன் எடுத்த ஒரு குறுங்கானொளி இங்கே.

மாலை மறையும் ஆதவன் பின்னே மேற்குவானில் ஒளிரும் வெள்ளி — சுக்கிரன்; கீழே திருவல்லிக்கேணியான் புறப்பாடு!

A day after the birth of Bhagwan Shree Krishna 0ccurrs the purappadu of Bala Krishnan in the morning and Uriyadi purappadu of Sri Parathasarathi Emperuman in punnai kilai vahanam in the evening.

சுக்கிரன் என்று நாம் அழைப்பது Venus — சூரியனிலிருந்து இரண்டாவது கோள். சூரியன், சந்திரனுக்குப் பிறகு நம் வானில் இயற்கையாகத் தோன்றும் பொருட்களில் மிகப் பிரகாசமானது சுக்கிரன்தான். அதனால்தான் மாலை வானில் அது ஒரு பெரிய ஒளிமிக்க நட்சத்திரம் போலத் தெரிகிறது; உண்மையில் அது நட்சத்திரம் அல்ல, ஒரு கோள்.

தமிழில் பழங்காலத்திலிருந்தே சுக்கிரன், வெள்ளி என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. அதிகாலையில் தோன்றும்போது விடிவெள்ளி என்றும், மாலையில் சூரியன் மறைந்த பின்னர் தெரியும் போது மாலை வெள்ளி என்றும் வழக்கில் கூறுவர். ஆங்கிலத்திலும் இதே காரணத்தால் Venus-க்கு Morning Star / Evening Star என்ற பெயர்கள் உண்டு — ஆனால் அது star அல்ல.

ஒரு சுவாரசியமான விஷயம்: சுக்கிரன் சந்திரனைப் போலவே பிறை நிலைகளைக் (phases) கொண்டிருக்கிறது. தொலைநோக்கியில் பார்க்கும்போது சில சமயம் முழுமையாகவும், சில சமயம் அரைவட்டமாகவும், மெல்லிய பிறை போலவும் தெரியும். Galileo இதைக் கவனித்தது சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டுக்கு முக்கியமான வானியல் ஆதாரங்களில் ஒன்றாயிற்று.

இந்திய மரபில் சுக்கிரன் / சுக்கிராச்சாரியார் நவக்கிரகங்களில் ஒருவர்; புராண மரபில் அசுரர்களின் குருவாகக் குறிப்பிடப்படுகிறார். வெள்ளிக்கிழமை — சுக்கிரவாரம் — அவரோடு தொடர்புபடுத்தப்படுகிறது. வானியலையும் மரபையும் தனித்தனியாகப் பார்த்தால், ஒன்று Venus என்ற இயற்கைக் கோளை விவரிக்கிறது; மற்றொன்று அதனைச் சுற்றி வளர்ந்த இந்திய சமய–ஜோதிட மரபு.

 - transforming the photo to very many decades ago !! – two three editions bringing somewhat closer to my expectations !!!

மறப்பின்மை is not an oft-repeated word !!  மறப்பின்மை என்பது மறவாத தன்மை —நல்ல நினைவாற்றல், நன்றியுணர்வுடன் நினைவில் வைத்திருத்தல் என்பதாகும். இதன் எதிர்ச்சொல்: மறதி / மறத்தல்.

I used to take pride in my memory – of remembering  Vehicle numbers of customers of a nearby shop .. .. but at this point of life I sometimes do not remember my own car, tw0-wheeler no.  I still remember so vividly that Deodhar Trophy finals at Chepauk on 14.9.1980 – Krishnamachari  Srikkanth, the darling of the crowd opened with V. Sivaramakrishnan, the tall left-hander. A place in Indian Team for Australian / New Zealand  tour was at stake.   Thirumalai Echambadi Srinivasan walked in at 0/1 and played a scintillating innings of 129, perhaps much better than IPL innings we see these days ! – no Cricket post this – often these days, I forget lot of things – mobile charger, laptop charger, keys and more !  .. .. As we age, we tend to forget more !!.  We   often forget not because the mind is empty, but because it was distracted while receiving, weak while storing, or slow while retrieving the information.

The human mind does not actually record experience like a camera or store it like a computer file. It first selects what deserves attention, encodes portions of the experience, connects them with earlier knowledge and later reconstructs the event whenever it is recalled.  Human memory broadly works through three processes: Encoding; Consolidation and storage  & Retrieval.  Interestingly, remembrance is not always a perfect replay. Each time an event is recalled, the brain reconstructs it. The memory may be strengthened, modified or unconsciously blended with later information. This is why two honest people can remember the same incident differently.

Computer memory differs -  A computer converts information into binary digits—0 and 1—and stores them electronically or magnetically. Each piece of data has an identifiable location or address, enabling the computer to retrieve it with great precision.  A computer normally reproduces stored data exactly unless it is corrupted, overwritten or deleted. It does not naturally decide that one childhood afternoon was emotionally important while another was insignificant. The human brain does precisely that. 

28.8.2026 is the concluding day (Sarrumurai) of Thirup Pavithrothsavam at Thiruvallikkeni divaydesam.  There would be purnahuthi of the homams conducted – daily there is rendering of Vedas and Thiruvaimozhi. 

சண்டை சச்சரவுகள், பிணக்கங்கள் இல்லாத வீடில்லை.  புலவி நுணுக்கம் என்று ஒரு அத்தியாயம் திருக்குறளில் - இதில் ஊடல் (செல்ல பிணக்கு)  உண்டாவதற்குக்   நுட்பமான காரணங்கள் உரைத்துள்ளார்  திருவள்ளுவர். 

உள்ளினேன் என்றேன் மற்றென்மறந்தீர் என்றென்னைப்
புல்லாள் புலத்தக் கனள்.

Pavithrotsavam is an annual ritual - the word itself is a derivative from the combination of two words - 'Pavithram (holy) and Uthsavam (Festivity).    This Uthsavam is penitential as also propitiatory  ~ for sure, there is nothing good or bad for the Ultimate Benefactor, the Lord who gracefully blesses in all our endeavours.   It is our own attempt to get rid of the evils that might have been caused by the omissions and commissions in the performance of various rituals throughout the year.   

Sriman Narayanan in Sri Vaishnavaite philosophy beholds the Best of everything and cannot in any manner be having anything in short. The festivals are only intended to be error correction [doṣa-nivṛtti] of the rituals that we, the humans conduct and fail in some manner.  Lord only accepts them with Divine Grace, blessing us all the time beyond what we deserve.   A Srivaishnava does not regard his own effort as independently capable of securing the ultimate good. Relying upon Sriman Narayana’s boundless grace, he seeks the privilege of being guided towards eternal kainkaryam.  Sriman Narayana with His abundant opulence will shower his blessings and guide us to do kainkaryam to Him.   

முன்கண்ட திருக்குறளின் உரை :     கணவன் தனது அன்பு மனைவியிடம், நின்னையே நினைத்தேன் என்றான்.  அதற்கு இன்புறாமல் - ஏன் மறந்தீர்!  மறந்தால் அல்லவோ நினைப்பு என பிணக்கம் கொண்டாளாம் காதலி.  மனம், நினைவுகள், மறத்தல்  - போன்றன பல மனித இயல்பு !  உள்மனம், நனவிலி மனம் அல்லது நனவில் மனம் (Unconscious / subconscious  minds) மனிதனின் மனதில் தானாகவே நடைபெறும் செயல். இவை  பரிசோதனைக்கு உட்படுத்த முடியாதன.   கசப்பான அனுபவங்களும், துன்பங்களும் விரைவில் மறக்கும்படி மனதின் அமைப்பு உள்ளது. அவைகள் மறக்காமல் இருந்தால் அவை மனிதனை செயலற்றவனவாக்கிவிடும்.  

ஆழ்வார்கள் எம்பெருமானிடத்தில் ஆழ்ந்த பக்தியும் காதலும் கொண்டவர்கள்.  எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமந்நாராயணனுடைய பரமபோக்யமான திருக்கல்யாண குணங்களிலே முழுமையாக  ஆழ்ந்த ஸ்வாமி   நம்மாழ்வார்  - எம்பெருமானிடம் அவற்றை என்றும் மறவாதிருக்கும்  'மறப்பின்மை'  என்னும் செல்வத்தை அருளவேணுமென வேண்டுகிறார்.  

              Human memory involves the ability to both preserve and recover information we have learned or experienced. As we all know and have experienced too,  this is not a flawless process. Sometimes we forget or misremember things.  Memory problems can range from minor annoyances like forgetting where you left your  vehicle  keys to major diseases  that affect the quality of life and the ability to function. Memory slips are aggravating, frustrating, and sometimes worrisome.   

Forgetting is partly a normal and useful function of the brain. We encounter far more information than we can retain, so the brain preserves what appears meaningful and allows insignificant details to fade. Forgetting can occur  because :  the info itself was never properly registered; memory was not firmly stored or info was stored but not accessible !!   Age does make retrieval a little slower. A person may misplace spectacles, forget why they entered a room, or take longer to recall a familiar name. If the information returns later and everyday independence remains unaffected, this is usually ordinary age-related forgetfulness.  

Forgetfulness is a persistent failure to remember. It results from changes in the brain and can be a normal part of aging or a symptom of another condition or disease. When you experience forgetfulness, you may find it harder to recall information or events, learn new things, or form new memories.  .. .. what would you pray to God – on forgetfulness !! – Swami Nammalwar certainly has better thoughts !

மாலே! படிச்சோதி மாற்றேல், இனியுனது

பாலேபோல் சீரில் பழுத்தொழிந்தேன்,-மேலால்

பிறப்பின்மை பெற்று   அடிக்கீழ்க்  குற்றேவலன்று,

மறப்பின்மை யான் வேண்டும் மாடு.

மறப்பின்மை யான் வேண்டும் மாடு :  எம்பெருமானே !  திருமாலே! உன்னுடைய பால்போலப் பரம போக்யாமன திருக்கல்யாண குணங்களில் ஆழ்ந்து விட்டேன்;  இனிமேல் வீடு பேறு  எனும் பிறப்பு இன்மை பெற்று உந்தன்  திருவடிவாரத்திலே  கைங்கரியம் பண்ணுவது  அடியேன் தங்களிடம் யாசிக்கும் செல்வமன்று !!  உந்தன்  திவ்யமங்கள விக்ரஹ தேஜஸ்ஸை  அடியேன் எந்த க்ஷணமும் மறக்காமல் நிற்கும் நித்யானுபவ   விஷயமாக்க வேணும் ;  உன்னை மறவாதிருத்தல்  என்பதே தான் எப்போதும்  விரும்பும் செல்வம் என உரைக்கின்றார் சுவாமி நம்மாழ்வார். .

The great paradox is that a computer possesses enormous and accurate storage, but no personal past of its own. The human mind stores imperfectly, yet transforms remembered experience into identity, emotion, wisdom and imagination.

A computer retrieves what was stored; the human mind remembers what life made meaningful.
