இன்று 15.6.2026 -ஆனி  மாசப்பிறப்பு .. திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்யதேசத்தில் ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான் சிறிய மாட வீதி புறப்பாடு கண்டருளினார். 

 

தமிழ் நாட்காட்டியின்படி ஆண்டின் மூன்றாவது மாதம் ஆனி ஆகும். சூரியன் மிதுன இராசியுட் புகுந்து அதைவிட்டு வெளியேறும் வரையிலான 31 நாள், 36 நாடி, 38 விநாடி கொண்ட கால அளவே மாதமாகும். வசதிக்காக இந்த மாதம் 30 நாட்கள், அல்லது 31 சில சமயங்கள் மேலும் ஓரு நாள் கொண்டதாக அமையும். ஆனி மாசம் நீண்ட பகல்களை கொண்டது.  கோடை வெப்பமும் அதிகமாக தாக்கும்.  இது மிதுன மாசம் / ஜேஷ்டா மாசம் என்றும் அறியப்படுகிறது.  தமிழ் மாத அளவீட்டில்,  பவுர்ணமி அன்று எந்த நட்சத்திரமோ அதுவே அந்த மாதத்தின் பெயராக இருக்கும். அன்றைக்கு ஒரு பண்டிகையாகவும் விழாவாகவும் இருக்கும்.

In the Middle and Neo-Assyrian periods, Assyria was one of the two major Mesopotamian kingdoms, alongside Babylonia. 

A total solar eclipse, commonly referred to as the Assyrian eclipse or the Bur-Sagale eclipse, occurred on 15 June 763 BC in the proleptic Julian calendar, recorded in Assyrian eponym lists that most likely dates to the tenth year of the reign of king Ashur-dan III.   A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and Sun, completely or partially blocking the Sun for a viewer on Earth. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is larger than that of the Sun, blocking all of the Sun's light and causing day to turn into darkness.   

In 1867, Henry Rawlinson identified the near-total eclipse of 15 June 763 BC as the most likely candidate  visible in northern Assyria just before noon. This date has been widely accepted ever since; the identification is also substantiated by other astronomical observations from the same period.  This record is one of the crucial pieces of evidence that anchor the absolute chronology of the ancient Near East for the Assyrian period.  The chronology of the ancient Near East is a framework of dates for various events, rulers and dynasties. Historical inscriptions and texts customarily record events in terms of a succession of officials or rulers: "in the year X of king Y". Comparing many records pieces together a relative chronology relating dates in cities over a wide area.   

Our ancestors have had great knowledge, especially in the field of astronomy and have predicted and recorded  eclipses.  The Mahabharata epic contains two major solar eclipse-related events: one used to date the war, and one famous "false sunset" scene during the battle.   

The epic mentions an ominous pair of eclipses occurring within 13 days before the Kurukshetra war:    A lunar eclipse on Shukla Trayodashi (instead of Purnima) & a  solar eclipse on Krishna Trayodashi (instead of Amavasya).  This rare eclipse pair is used by researchers to date the Mahabharata war. Analysis of eclipse pairs suggests likely years of  3129 BCE, 2599 BCE, 2056 BCE, and others. The epic states these untimely eclipses would "destroy the masses".  The most famous solar eclipse-related scene occurs on the 13th day of the war as ordained by Bhagwan Sree Krishna enabling  Arjuna's quest to kill Jayadratha  

Back to present, the Universe is already gearing up for its next grand performance on August 12, 2026, a breathtaking total solar eclipse will sweep across parts of the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, and Spain, bringing the magic of totality to Europe for the first time since 1999.  The 2026 solar eclipse is acting as an incredible, high-stakes teaser for an even rarer, monster 6-minute total solar eclipse arriving just one year later.  The path of totality for this eclipse is exceptionally dynamic measuring roughly 180 miles wide. It begins in northeastern Siberia which tracks directly over icy expanses of Greenland, passing through some clips the western coast of Iceland,and plunges south across the North Atlantic Ocean before making landfall in northern and eastern Spain. The eclipse takes place late in the day for Europe viewers in Spain will experience a dramatic sunset totality  where the eclipsed Sun sits very low on the western horizon right before dipping below the earth.

கதிராயிரமிரவி கலந்தெரித்தால் ஒத்த !!

 

ஏக காலத்தில் ஆயிரஞாயிறு உதித்தாற்போல் கண்கொண்டு காணவொண்ணாதபடி ஜ்வலியா நின்ற கிரீடத்தையுடையவனாய் மஹாநுபாவனான சக்கரவர்த்தித் திருமகன் எழுந்தருளியிருக்குமிடம் யாது?  திருவல்லிக்கேணி பிரம்மோத்சவத்தில் நான்காம் நாள் காலை சூர்யப்பிரபை.  மாலை சந்திரப்ரபை வாகனங்கள்.   சூரியனின் ஒளியைப் "பகலொளி' என்றும், சந்திரனிலிருந்து வரும் ஒளியை "நிலவொளி' என்றும் சங்க பாடல்களில் காட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. 

In the ongoing Chithirai  brahmothsavam of Sri Parthasarathi Perumal,  today 4.5.2026  is day 4 – and it is Surya Prabhai in the morning.

Compared with the billions of other stars in the Universe,  it  is remarkable.  It is infact  a ball of gas (92.1 percent hydrogen and 7.8 percent helium) held together by its own gravity. It is  4,500,000,000 years old!  That's a lot of zeroes. That’s four and a half billion.  Going by what others do, i.e., burning  for about nine or 10 billion years – it can be said tobe halfway through its life. So no worries, it still has about 5,000,000,000—five billion (500 crores !)—years to go.  It is the SUN.

Science is very interesting !  - When those five billion years are up, the Sun will become a red giant. That means the Sun will get bigger and cooler at the same time. When that happens, it will be different than the Sun we know today. As a red giant, our Sun will become about 2,000 times brighter than it is now!   In what is being considered a particularly rare event, scientists are projecting that the Sun will be an unusually cool customer by the year 2050. Earth is bound to become a dry, scorched rock, as our sun becomes a red giant star. What’s more, as the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies collide, our sun and Earth (and the rest of our solar system) are expected to be hurled outward, away from the galactic center, to the outskirts of a new large galaxy created in the collision.

Science keeps throwing newer facts and changing facts !  -  the  source of potentially hazardous solar particles, released from the Sun at high speed during storms in its outer atmosphere, has been located for the first time by researchers at UCL and George Mason University, Virginia, USA.  These particles are highly charged and, if they reach Earth’s atmosphere, can potentially disrupt satellites and electronic infrastructure, as well as pose a radiation risk to astronauts and people in airplanes. In 1859, during what’s known as the Carrington Event, a large solar storm caused telegraphic systems across Europe and America to fail. With the modern world so reliant on electronic infrastructure, the potential for harm is much greater. To minimize the danger, scientists are seeking to understand how these streams of particles are produced so they can better predict when they might affect Earth. In the new study, published in Science Advances, researchers analyzed the composition of solar energetic particles heading towards Earth, and found they had the same “fingerprint” as plasma located low in the Sun’s corona, close to the middle region of the Sun’s atmosphere, the chromosphere.

Yet another Sunset !! ~ Iyer, the Great !!!

Another day, another beautiful Sunset – this time it is a lamp atop the Gopuram of Sri Parthasarathi Swami thirukkovil today 

Remember watching this Malayalam movie in Saffire theatre where the hero with clairvoyant skills predicts a Sunset !! 

Vaikundam Soorya Narayana Iyer, business executive leads a normal family life along with Veni Geetha, his wife and his mother Sukumari. One day, up on climbing a tall tree in order to capture an escaped pet parrot, Iyer undergoes (fear of heights) giving him the power of clairvoyance. His mind undergoes severe strain after this opening a new revelation. A couple of days later, he foresees a train accident with exact train number, and time of incident and warns the railway authorities. 

With a few more fore-tellings, he becomes very famous and he  gets an insight about adding steroids into a particular brand of baby food by Gabrias group, its manufacturers. Iyer   a new reporter who brings out this incident in to limelight, ending up the business empire of Gabrias.  They  vow to avenge Iyer and plant a bomb in his car killing his family. He is  shot and admitted in hospital. 

At hospital, the famed celebrity  predicts the setting of sun on Thursday.  In the end people realize that it is not factually the SUN but the passing away of Iyer himself.  The Police tries to protect but a terrorist group successfully enters inside hospital kills him. 

Iyer the Great (1990) is a Malayalam thriller starring Mammootty, where his character acquires clairvoyance (premonition) after a fear-of-heights incident. While the film features intense dramatic scenes, there is no widely cited, iconic scene specifically focused on a setting sun, though it centers on the psychological mystery surrounding the protagonist's powers.

The Greek island of Rhodes is a sunny place. So much so that the ancient Rhodians built a colossal statue to the sun god Helios – the mighty Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.   When one travels to Greece or study Greek mythology, they are sure to  encounter stories of the Greek god, Helios, called the God of the Sun. In Greek mythology, Helios is the offspring of the titans Hyperion and Theia, and his sisters were Selene (the Moon) and Eos (Dawn). These quick facts will help you get to know more about Helios.  Often represented as a handsome youth with a rayed headdress indicates his solar attributes.  Helios, sometimes called Titan drives a chariot daily from east to west across the sky, sailing  around the northerly stream of Ocean each night in a huge cup. Helios rises from a golden palace beneath the sea and drives his fiery chariot across the sky every day, providing daylight. Once he let his son Phaeton drive his chariot, but Phaeton lost control of the vehicle and plunged to his death.

நாம் அனுதினமும் காலையில் காணும் பெரிய சிகப்பு பிழம்பாம் சூரியனுக்கு பற்பல பெயர்கள் உண்டு :  அவற்றில் சில : ஆதவன், ஆதித்தன், கதிரவன், ஞாயிறு, பகலவன்,  எல்லி, கனலி, வெய்யோன், தினகரன், தினமணி, பானு, உதயன், அருணன், இரவி, அருக்கன், பரிதி. ..  கதிரவன் அல்லது சூரியன் (Sun) என்பது கதிரவ அமைப்பின் மையத்தில் உள்ள விண்மீன் ஆகும். இது கிட்டத்தட்ட கோள வடிவில் இருக்கும் சூடான பிளாசுமா ஆகும். இதன் உட்புற வெப்பச்சலன இயக்கமானது இயக்கவியல் செயல்முறை மூலம் காந்தப்புலத்தை உருவாக்குகிறது.  புவியில் உயிர்கள் வாழ்வதற்கான ஆற்றல் மூலம் கதிரவன் தான்.  

சூரிய பகவான்  தன் ரதத்தில் தினமும் சுற்றி திரும்பும் நேரமே ஒருநாள். சூரிய பகவான் ஒரு முகூர்த்த காலத்தில் 27,206,400 மைல்கள் சஞ்சரிக்கும் வல்லமை உடையவர். கருடனின் சகோதரரான அருணனே சூரிய பகவானின் தேர்ப்பாகனாக திகழ்கிறார். அறுபதாயிரம் வால்கிய முனிவர்கள் தினமும் சூரியன் வலம் வரும் பாதையில் அவரை தரிசிக்கின்றனர்.  காயத்ரி, ப்ரஹதி, உஷ்ணிக், ஜகதி, திருஷ்டுப், அனுஷ்டுப், பங்க்தி என்கிற ஏழு குதிரைகள் சூரியனின் ரதத்தை இழுத்துச் செல்கின்றன.  

Today,  25.01.2026    (11^th   day of Thai masam) is  Ratha Sapthami.   Ratha means chariot &  Sapthami is a thithi in a lunar month falling on the 7th  day of both sukla and Krishna paksha.   Ratha Sapthami also Surya Jayanthi is celebrated on 7th  day after Thai Amavasai-  Shukla paksha (waxing phase of moon)  dedicated to God Surya.

By combining data and observations from decades of Sun research, experts are predicting a “Grand Solar Minimum” will occur a few decades from now, making our parent star dimmer and cooler than it has been for a very long time.  Though to the common man,  the Sun would continue to look the same way as we have seen,  Sun goes through regular cycles of solar minimums and solar maximums, and that way,  a particularly cool solar minimum is on the way.  

It is believed that earth’s inclination towards the sun is the steepest on Ratha sapthami  day.  At some regions, special bathing rituals are observed.   Surya (Sun) worship is deep rooted in the Vedas and other Hindu scriptures.  The day  is celebrated as the birth of Surya to Sage Kashyapa and his wife Aditi and celebrated as Surya Jayanthi in many parts. Legend has it that the greatest warrior Bhishma breathed last the day after the Ratha Sapthami day.  The Pithamaha is one the greatest characters in the Epic Mahabaratha and the asthami is revered as “Bhishmaashtami”.  

The Sun god is driven by a seven-horsed Chariot depicting the seven days of the week.   Going by Upanishad, their names are : Gayatri, Brhati, Usnik, Jagati, Tristup, Anustup and Pankti.  The charioteer of Surya is Aruna, who is also personified as the redness that accompanies the sunlight in dawn and dusk. Aruna was born to Vinatai and Sage Kashyapa….. the other son is the most illustrious Periya Thiruvadi (Sri Garuda Azhwar)  ~ to Aruna was born Jatayu and Sampati, who are mentioned in the epic Ramayana.  The chariot of Sun travels at a speed of 3,400,800 yojanas calculated as 27,206,400 miles in a muhurtha.   

Uttarayana is the six month period between Makara sankranti (Jan 14) and July 14 when Sun travels towards North in the celestial sphere. Ratha saptami marks the seventh day following the Sun’s northerly movement of vernal equinox starting from Capricorn (Makara).  A  journey from Makara rekai to Kadaka rekai – Capricorn to Cancer.  Ratha Sapthami  symbolically represents the Sun God Surya turning his Ratha (chariot) drawn by seven horses towards northern hemisphere in a north-easterly direction.  

Traditionally in villages, Rangoli kolam is drawn with coloured rice powder depicting Chariot drawn by horses. From today, the days would get warmer, especially in South India. This is an important annual festival at Vaishnavaite temples.  At holy Thirumala, there would be purappadu of Uthsavar  Malaiappar in 7 vahanas as also in Thiruneermalai and Thirumylai Sri Kesava Perumal thirukkovil.  In Kanchi, and other divyadesams -  there will be purappadu in the morning in Surya Prabhai and in the evening Chandra Prabhai. At Thiruvallikkeni, there was Suryaprabhai purappadu this morning.   Here are some photos of the grand purappadu : -

The rivers flow towards the mighty Ocean; lotus blossoms towards the direction of the Sun; all that is born eventually reach the lord of death ~ for us Srivaishnavaites, the only goal of realisation is the golden feet of the consort of Mahalakshmi -  Sriman Narayana.

Thiruvallikkeni Ratha Sapthami 2026

 

Today is Ratha Sapthami.  The Sun is the   central star of our solar system, providing the light, heat, and gravitational force essential for life on Earth, driving weather, ocean currents, and photosynthesis, while also holding the planets in orbit and serving as a powerful cultural symbol of life, energy, and divinity 

 

Ratha Saptami is symbolically represented in the form of the sun god Surya turning his ratha drawn by seven horses, with Aruṇa as the charioteer, towards the northern hemisphere, in a north-easterly direction.  The  earth’s inclination towards the sun is the steepest  today.
