Golden bangles ! Sri Andal Thiruvadipura Uthsavam 2021

இது சிறப்பான ஆடி மாதம்.  ஆடிபூரத்தில் அம்பாளுக்கு வளையல் சார்த்துவதும், வளையல் காணிக்கை, வளையல் மாலை அணிவிப்பதும் பக்தர்களின் நீண்ட கால நம்பிக்கை.  ஸ்ரீவைணவ திருக்கோவில்களில் கூட,  ஆண்டாளுக்கு திருவாடிப்பூரத்தன்று பக்தர்கள் வளையல்களை காணிக்கையாக அளிப்பர்.  சில ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு வரை கிராமங்களில் திருவிழா என்றவுடன் ராட்டினம், பச்சை குத்துபவர்கள், வளையல் வண்டிக்கார்கள், பலூன் விற்பவர்கள் எனக் கிராமமே களைகட்டும்.  பல பழைய படங்களில், வளையல் விற்பவர்கள் கதாபாத்திரமாக வருவது நினைவு இருக்கலாம். வாழ்க்கை மாறிவிட்டது.

In the last quarter of 2020-21, India’s gold consumption was up 37% to 140 tonnes over the same period in 2020, just before the first lockdown. But for many sellers what was to follow was another death knell. The second wave dried up business, and even as it waned, higher gold prices put a damper on any possible recovery. .. .. .. are Indians buying less of Gold !

Hong Kong was found to be the priciest city in the world for luxury products and services, according to a report by private bank Julius Baer. It is the most expensive place to hire a lawyer, due to being a financial center, with a simple will consultation setting someone back $1,050 on average. Hong Kong also has among the highest price tags for property, cars, a business class flight, fine dining, a wedding banquet and beauty services. However, Hong Kong puts no duties on jewelry, meaning it can be a relatively the cheap city to buy this high-end product, though a Cartier Love bracelet will still cost $42,228. It costs even more in Brazil’s capital of Rio de Janeiro, at $54,852, as taxes on jewelry can be double the levies charged in North America and Europe.

Though this is not backed up any statistics, a friendly jeweler informed that ‘golden bangle’ sales constitutes 40% of their turnover – remember, every gold purchase includes % of wastage and making charges !  - the making charge would depend on the design and fine intricate ones will have more wastage and more of making charges !  In one famous shop, after the wife selects the jewellery – the husband would be directed to the sales manager – who would in turn talk to somebody and would offer a reduction of couple of hundred rupees on making charges ! with the value of purchase being more than 30000!! 

Gold bangles have adorned and ornamented women’s dainty wrists since forever. This is a symbol of status, prosperity, and wealth. Wrists vary in size, thickness, texture, strength, and symbolize kindness as well as for gallantry. Wrists must be decorated with jewels not because they help establish the human connection! More so because they are status symbols.  Diamond Bangles also sell well !  the Jewellers cash more in experimentation with so called newer designs, patterns, styling, engraving and more !   - some would prefer  very delicate thin gold bangles while some would insist them being solid and weighing more !

For Srivaishnavaites, the month of Aadi is of special significance – as Thiruvadipuram [Puram Nakshathiram in the month of Aadi] –  is the  most blessed day for all Srivaishnavaites –  marking  the birth of Kothai Piratti [Andal]  This year Thiruvadipuram falls on Wednesday 11th Aug 2021 and today commences the  Andal Uthsavam.

 தமது திருப்பாவையில் - "வையத்து வாழ்வீர்காள்' என்ற பாசுரத்தில் - இந்த பூவுலகில் வாழும் எல்லோரும் பேறுபெற உஜ்ஜீவிக்கும் வழியை ஆராய்ந்து, திருப்பாற்கடலில் துயிலும் பரந்தாமனையே நினைத்து அவரடியே சேருமாறு பாடின ஆண்டாள் திருவாடிப்பூர உத்சவம் இன்று முதல் இனிதே துவங்குகிறது.   அவரது திருப்பாவையின் யாப்பு  மிக கடினமான இலக்கண கோப்பு வாய்ந்தது.  திருப்பாவை முப்பது பாடல்கள் - சங்க தமிழ்மாலை என போற்றப்படுகின்றன.  ஆண்டாளின் திருப்பாவையும் நாச்சியார் திருமொழி பாசுரங்களும் சொல்லழகும் பொருள் அழகும் சிறப்புற மிளிர்பவை.  "நம்மையுடைவன் நாராயணன்" என மானுடவரான  நாம் 'பரம்பொருளின் உடமை' என்பதை அழகாக வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார்.

ஆண்டாள் அபரிமிதமான பக்திக்கு உன்னத உதாரணம்.  கோதைப்பிராட்டி தான் கொண்ட பக்தியினாலே , எம்பெருமான் வாக்கு மாறமாட்டான், நம்மை ரக்ஷிப்பான், தம்மைக் கைக்கொள்வான் என்று உறுதியாக இருந்தாள்.  அவரது பாசுரங்களில் நாரணன் தன்னை ஏற்க தாமதாவதில் வருத்தமும் அதே சமயத்தில், ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனையே கை பிடிப்பேன் என்ற மனதிண்ணமும் விளங்கும்.   இதோ இங்கே ஆண்டாள் நாச்சியார் திருமொழியில் இருந்து ஒரு பாசுரம் : -

பொங்கோதம் சூழ்ந்த புவனியும் விண்ணுலகும்

அங்காதுஞ் சோராமே யாள்கின்ற வெம்பெருமான்

செங்கோலுடைய திருவரங்கச் செல்வனார்

எங்கோல் வளையால்  இடர்  தீர்வராகாதே !!

பொங்கும் அலைகள் சூழ்ந்த நிலமும்,விண் உலகமும், எந்தக் குறையுமின்றி,தளர்வின்றி ஆள்கின்ற எம்பெருமான், செங்கோல் உடைய திருவரங்கச் செல்வனார், என் வளையாலா துன்பம் தீரப் பெறுவார்? அது முடியாதே என நினைந்து ஆண்டாள் உடல் மெலிந்ததாம்.வளையல்கள் கழண்டதாம் !   எம்பெருமானையே நினைத்து பாடி மகிழ்ந்து, பரிதவித்து, மாலை சூடி கொடுத்து, எம்பெருமானையே கைப்பிடித்த கோதை பிராட்டியின் திருவவதார உத்சவ சமயத்தில், ஆண்டாளின் தாள் பணிந்து தொழுவோம்.

சென்ற வருடமும்  இந்த வருடமும் புறப்பாடு  இல்லை.  ஆண்டாள் உத்சவம் வீதி  புறப்பாடுகளை முன்னாளில் கண்டு ஆனந்தித்தோம்.  இப்போது இயலவில்லை !!   கோதைப்பிராட்டி தனது நாச்சியார் திருமொழியில் அனுபவித்தது போல " மழை திரண்டு பொலியும் கார்மேகத்தைப் போன்ற எம்பெருமானது வடிவழகு, நம் அனைவரையும் மயக்கி, அவன்பக்கல் மென்மேலும் மையலுற வைக்கிறது.  பழையவற்றை நினைத்து ஸ்ரீஆண்டாள் நீராட்ட உத்சவம் 2016ன் சில படங்கள் இங்கே :-

Thavana Uthsavam 4 - Pandiyan kondai 2021

Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam is replete with uthsavams ~ 2021 began too well – and there have been 2 special Brahmothsavams (Sri Parthasarathi in Feb; followed by Sri Azhagiya singar in Mar) – in between we had Thai poosam, Masi Magam, Ratha Sapthami – and 7 days of Theppothsavam,  concluded on Friday – 20.3 was Panguni Rohini purappadu and now  Thavana Uthsavam for Sri Parthasarathi Perumal is on.  Today is day 4 of the uthsavam – and Pallava uthsavam for Sri Ranganathar has started today. 

Gold and silver futures gained this day as US Treasury yields held close to one-week low, with bullion shrugging off strength in the dollar following Federal Reserve Chairman’s  reassurance that inflation would not spiral out of control. Treasury yields slipped to the lowest since March 16, while the dollar jumped above a two-week high after Powell told US lawmakers on Tuesday he expected inflation to rise over the year but it would be "neither particularly large nor persistent." Commodity prices traded mixed on Wednesday after a mixed previous session.  Bullion prices traded steady with spot gold price at COMEX was trading near $1732 per ounce while spot silver price at COMEX was trading over half a percent up near $25.20 per ounce in the morning trade. Earlier, bullion prices witnessed selling on Fed comments which boosted buying in dollar.  In the spot market, gold prices gained Rs 116 to Rs 44,374 per 10 grams in the national capital on Tuesday, reflecting overnight gains in global precious metal prices. Silver, however, declined by Rs 117 to Rs 65,299 per kg. 

It is an year since !  On March 25 last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi  announced a nationwide lockdown in view of the rising number of Covid-19 cases. An  year later, India is experiencing a renewed surge in infections with many states reportedly in the grip of a second wave. Amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare today  said that two states - Maharashtra and Punjab are of grave concern.  Tamil Nadu recorded 1437 positive cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the state tally to 8,69,804. Among these, Chennai reported 532 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 2,42,647.

Life was limping back to normalcy – but people have been impatient – with Elections around the corner or even before the announcement  violations became the norm – as people hit the streets not wearing masks and not maintaining social distance. In Cities especially Chennai, crowds are swelling – traffic is snarling .. busy market places like T Nagar is full of people – shops are dotted with people  

செங்கோல் (scepter) என்பது அரசுச் சின்னங்களுள் ஒன்றாகும். மன்னனுக்கு மகுடமும், அரியணையும் போன்றே செங்கோலும் இன்றியமையாததாகும். மன்னனின் ஆட்சி நேர்மையானதாகவும், நெறி வழுவாததாகவும் அமைய வேண்டும் என்பதன் பொருட்டே செங்கோல் எனும் நேரிய தண்டு அரசன் வீற்றிருக்கும் போதெல்லாம் கையில் காணப்படும்.  

பருவத்தே மழை பெய்தாலும் நல்ல விளைச்சலும் உள்ள நாடு சுபிக்ஷத்துடன் விளங்கும்.  நல்ல மன்னர் நேர்மைத்திறனுடன் ஆட்சி செய்தால் அந்நாடு வளம் பெரும்.  திருவள்ளுவர் தம் வாக்கு இங்கே :

பெயலும் விளையுளும் தொக்கு.

நீதி முறைப்படி செங்கோல் செலுத்தும் அரசனுடைய நாட்டில் பருவ மழையும் நிறைந்த விளைவும் ஒருசேர ஏற்படுவனவாகும்.   ஸுகாஸீநம்  ~  அதி ஆனந்தமாக எந்த உபத்ரவமேதும் இல்லாமல் இருக்கும் இடம் ! ~ எது என்ற கேள்விக்கே இடமில்லை ..... நம்பெருமாள்  பள்ளிகொண்ட திருவரங்கமே !!

A sceptre is a staff or wand held in the hand by a ruling monarch as an item of royal or imperial insignia. Figuratively, it means royal or imperial authority or sovereignty… ..  to us ‘Sengol’ is of higher significance.  Sceptre has assumed a significant role in many mythologies.  It had a  central role in the Mesopotamian world, and was in most cases part of the royal insignia of sovereigns and gods.   The Mesopotamian sceptre was mostly called ĝidru in Sumerian and ḫaṭṭum in Akkadian. The ancient Tamil work of Tirukkural dedicates one chapter each to the ethics of the sceptre.   

எத்திறத்திலும் யாரொடும் கூடும் * அச்

சித்தந் தன்னைத் தவிர்த்தனன் செங்கண்மால்*

அத்தனே அரங்கா என்றழைக்கின்றேன்*

பித்தனாயொழிந்தேன்;  எம்பிரானுக்கே **

A beautiful pasuram from Kulasekara Azhwar’s Perumal thirumozhi hailing  Namperumal – there certainly is reason.   At  Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam  Sri Parthasarathi Perumal adorns ‘Pandian Kondai’ holds Sengol (sceptre)  on a day in Thavana Uthsavam,   Kodai Uthsavam, Manavala Mamunigal Uthsavam & Irapathu  ~  what a darshan it is to worship Sri Parthasarathi adorning such aa beautiful kireedam.   The kireedam known as Pandian kondai  replicates the one usually worn by Lord NamPerumal rendered to him by a Pandian King known as Sundara Pandian.  .. .. and  Namperumal has  ‘sengol’  (sceptre) worthy of Emperors.  

Today on day 4 of Thavana Uthsavam, Sri Parthasarathi adorned Pandiyan kondai and wielded Sengol.  This is a specially made kireedam tendered to the Temple by Challani Jewellery Mart and worn first by Sri Parthasarathi Perumal on Oct 26, 2020, the Vijayadasami day.    Above is a photo of  Sri Parthasarathi Perumal adorning the earlier  Pandiyan kondai and  rest are  photos with the new crown taken during the inner purappadu at Thavana uthsava bungalow this evening.

Gold and silver prices in Indian markets continued to struggle as the precious metals slipped in global markets. On MCX, December gold futures were down 0.2% to Rs.50,860 per 10 gram while silver rates fell 0.5% to Rs.61,978 per kg. In the previous session, on MCX, gold futures had ended flat while silver edged up 0.6%. MCX gold prices are in a consolidation range with lack of directive trades and a rise above Rs.51,200 could boost prices higher,  Financial Services said in note. "If MCX silver holds the downside obstacle of Rs.61,000, it could rise higher to Rs.62,900 initially then to Rs.63,400 region. But fall below Rs.61,000 may squeeze down prices lower," the broking Company  added.

In global markets, gold prices were marginally lower today amid ebbing hopes of US stimulus before the elections. A stronger US dollar also weighed on gold. Spot gold fell 0.1% to $1,905.51 per ounce while the dollar index was up 0.22% against rivals, making bullion expensive for those holding other currencies. Comex gold futures moved higher on Tuesday, boosted by a weaker U.S. Dollar and concerns over a second surge in coronavirus cases, although the volume and the trading range were so tight, it was hard to tell if we were witnessing actual buying or just short-covering.

The price of gold has rocketed during the pandemic, but mining it is getting more difficult. Global reports suggests  on challenges and controversy at one of the UK’s biggest planned mines. With 460 million-year-old veins of gold strewn hither and thither in the rock deep underfoot, the prospect of a mine in Curraghinalt, in a remote corner of the Sperrin mountains, has been talked about for decades – but it has never yet materialised. A recent application by a mining company to extract the seams of precious metal, has brought the prospect closer still. If successful, the firm says it could bring new jobs and money to the area. But many here want to keep things the way they are.  ..

~ whatever be the Pandemic or any other panic, the World continues in its avarice in owning the yellow model and these parts, people are so fond of buying gold jewellery !!

Providence (noun) means :  an influence that is not human in origin and is thought to control people's lives.  But for those closer to retirement, it is most sought after thing - Provident fund is another name for pension fund. Its purpose is to provide employees with lump sum payments at the time of exit from their place of employment. This differs from pension funds, which have elements of both lump sum as well as monthly pension payments.  

There cannot be any doubt at all in what is the futuristic Provident fund for us, living in this World filled with earthly desires.  The Lord of infinite virtues, Sriman Narayana is the only ONE  who is the  medicine and the wealth of devotees; He will protect us and guide us and prevent everything else in ruining us.

எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாரணன் எத்தகையன் !  தன்னடியாரை வலிய கருமங்களினுடைய மிடுக்கின் வழியிலே ஸஞ்சரிக்கிற  பஞ்சேந்திரியங்களிலும் அகப்பட்டு நசித்துப்  போகும்படி விட்டுக் கொடாதவன்.  அவனே,  அவர்களுக்குப் புருஷார்த்தமான நிதியாகவும், பிணியை போக்கும் மருந்தாகவும் இருந்து காக்க வல்லன்.  அந்த எம்பெருமான் ஒருவனே, எவ்விடத்துமுள்ள  யாவர்க்கும்  ஆனந்தகுணத்தினால் மிகவும் உயர்ந்து வாக்குக்கும் மனத்துக்கும் எட்டாதபடி அப்புறப்பட்டவனாய், அவனடியாரான ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனின் பக்த கோடிகளுக்கு எப்போதும் உரியவனான  'ஆயர் கொழுந்து' என போற்றப்படும் தலைவன். அவனடி பற்றி, அவனிடம் சேர்ந்து உய்வு பெறுவோமாக !!

பொன்னிவர் மேனி மரகதத்தின்' ~ Golden Thirumeni of Emperuman

எம்பெருமானது திருமேனி வடிவழகை அழகிய பளபளக்கும் பைம் பொன்னோடு ஒப்பிடுதல் வழக்கம்.  திவ்விய தேசமான நாகையில் எழுந்தருளி உள்ள சௌந்தரராஜ பெருமாள், வர்ணிக்க முடியாத பேரழகுடன் திகழ்பவர்!’ என்று சிலாகிக்கிறார் திருமங்கை ஆழ்வார்.   'பொன்னிவர் மேனி மரகதத்தின்' என்று ஒரு பாசுரம் திருமொழியில். 

तं सन्तः श्रोतुमर्हन्ति सदसद्व्यक्तिहेतवः।

हेम्नः संलक्ष्यते ह्यग्नौ विशुद्धिः श्यामिकाऽपि वा॥

Sagacious people who are the resolvers in clarifying merit and demerit are apt to listen this, as fire indeed can distinguish whether the gold is pure or impure.

கொரோனா தீ நுண்மி மக்களையும் அவர்களது வாழ்க்கை முறையையும் பாதித்துள்ளது எனினும், வீட்டடங்கு உத்தரவு சற்று தளர்ந்தவுடன், மக்கள் கடைகளில் கூட்டம் கூட ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டனர். காய்கறி, பால், மளிகை கடைகள் அல்ல - தங்கம், துணிமணி கடைகள் !! 

எக்காலத்திலும் மக்களை கவர்ந்து இழுப்பது 'தங்கம்' - பொன்னாலான ஆபரணங்கள். கோவிட் 19 பாதிப்பில் மக்களிடையே பணப்புழக்கம் இல்லை என புலம்புவர்கள் ஒரு பக்கம் இருக்க, தங்கம் விலை கிடுகிடுவென உயர்ந்து வருகிறது.  கடந்த 2016 பிப்ரவரி மாத காலத்தில் தங்கம் ஒரு வரலாற்று உச்சத்தைத் தொட்டது. 24 கேரட் 10 கிராம் ஆபரணத் தங்கம் விலை 28,149-க்கு விற்பனை ஆனது. ஆனால் இந்த வரலாறு என்பது அடிக்கடி மாறும் நிகழ்வு !!     மார்ச் 2020 மாத தொடக்கத்தில், உலக சுகாதார அமைப்பு, கொரோனா வைரஸை, Pandemic (பெரும் தொற்று நோய்) என அறிவித்தது. இதன் பிறகு  தங்கம் விலை இன்னமும் உயர்ந்து  04032020  அன்று 24 கேரட் 10 கிராம் தங்கம் விலை 45,310 ரூபாயைத் தொட்டது.   இன்றைய நிலவரப்படி,  சென்னையில் 22 கேரட் ஆபரணத் தங்கத்தின் விலை   குறைந்து ரூ.39,040 க்கும்  24 கேரட் ரூ 42,584க்கும் விற்கப்படுகின்றன.

 

The Gold Fire was a wildfire that burned during the 2020 California wildfire season south of Adin along Highway 139 in Lassen County, California in the United States.  

The chemical symbol for Gold on the periodic table of elements is AU. This symbol is a tribute to the Latin word, aurum, loosely translated "glowing dawn" which was used to describe gold in Ancient Rome.  Gold (Au), chemical element, a dense lustrous yellow precious metal   has several qualities that have made it exceptionally valuable throughout history.  Or is it simply a perception that has taken to the top !!   It is attractive in colour and brightness, durable to the point of virtual indestructibility, highly malleable, and usually found in nature in a comparatively pure form.    People tend to store in quantities more than what one would require; buy more of it, keep in lockers ..   [not for ordinary mortals, who only read Gold rate and say, it is going up, up and up]   

The purity of gold is defined either in karats or fineness. A karat is 1/24 part of pure gold by weight, so 24-karat gold is pure gold. To find the percentage of gold in an object when the purity is stated in karats, multiply the number of karats by 100 and divide by 24.    Alloys are mixtures of two or more metals, and many metals form alloys with gold. Most gold alloys are mixtures of gold, copper and silver. Gold alloyed with copper takes on a reddish color and is commonly 18K or less. If some of the copper is replaced with silver (keeping the gold content constant), the alloy takes on a yellow green hue or a rose color, depending on the mixture of copper and silver.

Refining with flame is one of the oldest methods of refining metals.  In ancient times, this form of refining involved a craftsman sitting next to a hot fire with molten gold in a crucible being stirred and skimmed to remove the impurities or dross that rose to the top of the molten metal. With flames reaching temperatures in excess of 1000 degrees Celsius, this job was definitely a dangerous occupation for the gold refiner.

Raghuvamsha is a Sanskrit mahakavya (epic poem) by the most celebrated Sanskrit poet Kalidasa. It narrates, in 19 sargas (cantos), the history of  the Raghu dynasty, namely the family of Dilipa and his descendants up to Agnivarna, who include Raghu, Dasharatha and Rama. The earliest surviving commentary written on the work is that of the 10th-century Kashmiri scholar Vallabhadeva.  The most popular and widely available commentary, however, is the Sanjivani, written by Mallinatha (ca.1350-1450).

The warrior Raghu leads a military expedition to Transoxiana. He defeats and subjugates local people along the way (presumably on his march through Central Asia) until he reaches the Vakshu, as the ancient Indians called the Oxus River. There, Raghu's army battles the Hepthalites, or White Huns, and defeats them. After crossing the Oxus, Emperor Raghu and his army encountered the Kambojas, and won them over too.  Canto 9 – is of  Dasharatha, and the accidental death of Shravana Kumara and in the following cantos comes the ithihasa purana Ramayana.
