Sri Azhagiya Singar Garuda Sevai 2026

Sri Azhagiya Singar Garuda Sevai 2026

In the grand Brahmothsavam, each Vahanam, every purappadu has its  own charm, yet, if one were to ask the most majestic and most crowd-pulling ones,  it would be Thiruther and Garuda vahanam. !!  .. .. ..  The Brahminy kite  is considered to be the contemporary representations of Garuda; Indonesia adopts a more stylistic approach depicting a Javanese eagle (being much larger than a kite).  Well,  Eagle is far different than the Brahminy Kite !!

Moving away,  Mexico’s main national symbol is the coat of arms: a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, with a snake in its beak and talon. It appears in the center of the national flag, which is one of Mexico’s other key national symbols.

The Aztec were a Nahuatl-speaking Mesoamerican people who built a powerful empire in central Mexico before the Spanish conquest. More precisely, many of them called themselves the Mexica, and “Aztec” is the later broader label used for their civilization. Tenochtitlan was their great capital city, founded around 1325 on islands in Lake Texcoco. It became one of the largest and most impressive cities in the Americas, with canals, causeways, temples, and a huge population, and its ruins now lie beneath modern Mexico City.

The Brahminy kite and the Aztec eagle are both powerful bird symbols, but they come from very different cultural worlds. The Brahminy kite is an actual bird in South and Southeast Asia, often linked in Hindu tradition with Garuda and auspicious presence, while the Aztec eagle is primarily a mythic-national symbol tied to the Mexica founding legend and war identity.   The Brahminy kite is a real raptor species, scientifically Haliastur indus, and it is widely recognized in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and nearby regions. The Aztec eagle is not a specific zoological species in the same way; it is a symbolic eagle image central to Aztec iconography and later Mexican identity.

In Hindu and related regional traditions, the Brahminy kite is often treated as an earthly reflection of Garuda, the divine bird and Sriman Narayanan’s vehicle, and it can carry auspicious or sacred associations. In Aztec mythology, the eagle is associated with divine destiny, sovereignty, and the founding sign of Tenochtitlan, where the eagle became a state symbol rather than a bird linked to a single avian species.  The Tenochtitlan founding legend says the Mexica were told to keep traveling until they saw a eagle perched on a cactus, often shown devouring a serpent, and that spot would be their new city. That omen was said to appear on an island in Lake Texcoco, where they founded Tenochtitlan in 1325, the city that later became Mexico City.

The eagle was a divine signal from Huitzilopochtli, the Mexica god of sun and war, confirming they had reached the destined place. In later Mexican symbolism, the image came to stand for national origin, identity, and continuity from the Aztec past. For the Aztec, Tenochtitlan was not just a capital; it was the sacred center of their world. The founding legend of the eagle sign helped make the city’s origin story powerful and enduring, and that imagery still appears in Mexico’s national symbols today.

In the ongoing Aani Brahmothsavam for Sri Azhagiya Singar  at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam today  27th June 2026     is the third day – a very important day ~ it is  Garuda Vahanam for Sri Thelliyasinga  Perumal.  Garuda is depicted as having the golden body of a strong person, has a white face, wings,  prominent beak, wears a crown – massive, strong – and more than anything else – ever devoted to Sriman Narayanan, carrying Him on his shoulders all the time. His devotion and being close to Emperuman all the time – Garuda, is admired as ‘PeriyaThiruvadi’.

Brahmothsavam is a grand festivity – each day it is different Vahanam, and Perumal has classy alankarams … on Garuda vahanam day, thousands gather early in the morning to catch glimpse of the Lord as he comes out of the gate (Gopura vassal darsanam). (around 5.30 am)   On Garuda Sevai day, people from far and away come to the temple, offer vasthram (new clothes), place before Lord cocoanut, fruits & other offerings and have darshan of Lord in Garuda vahanam.  It is a day of masses ~ teeming crowds, chanting the name of Lord SrimanNarayana, offering him everything including hundreds of vasthrams – all roads would read Madaveethis as people rush to have darshan of Lord on Garuda and enjoy the aesal and other festivities.

The streaming bakthas had the pleasure of His darshan and here are some photos of Garuda Sevai purappadu.      At 05.30 am, people waited to have the glimpse of Lord coming out of western Gopuravasal, then there was grand aesal – and after halt at   Gangaikondan mandapam,  purappadu resumed by 8 am and concluded around 10.15 am.

Sri Varadha Rajar Thiruther 2026

Thiruvallikkeni Sri Varadha Rajar  Thiruther 2026

Thiruther is a grandeur occasion ~ thousands of devotees assemble at Kanchipuram to have a glimpse of Sri Devathi Rajan on thiruther.

Today, 3.6.2026   is day 7 of Sri Varadharajar   Brahmothsavam – and it was thiruther.  At Thiruvallikkeni  the grand big  Thiruther [chariot] rolls twice – one for Sri Parthasarathi and again for Sri Thelliya singar ….. one will realise its grandeur that of rolling juggernaut, if one were to stand near as the 8 or 9 feet wheel rotates by.  Thiruther is a grand occasion of togetherness of people.  Today it was siriya thiruther for Sri Varadhar ~ at Kanchi the events are much bigger – have heard till a decade or so ago, it would take days for the thiruther to return and it would be a holiday in Kanchi district on the occasion.

Chariots are impressive  - On screen,  we have seen many – one got enamoured by the scene of Arjuna wading through the forces in Mahabaratha  - those chariots were quite attractive.  Ratha is not only fleet-footed mode during war, it symbolizes energy and zeal to move forward.  It was on the chariot steered by Lord Krishna, Geethopadesam occurred to Arjuna, the mighty warrior.  The rath itself according to legend was given by Agni.  The battle formation was unconceivably bigger ~ by some accounts an Akshauhini is described as a formation consisting of 21870 chariots, 21870 elephants, 65160 cavalry and more than a lakh of infantry.

In Greek mythology, Chariots were not just a means of transportation; they were symbolic and played a significant role in various myths and legends. Chariots were often associated with deities, notably those connected with the sky, sun, and moon, and were drawn by mythical creatures or powerful animals.

The word "chariot" comes from the Latin term carrus through French chariot, a loanword from Gaulish karros. In ancient Rome a biga described a chariot requiring two horses, a triga three, and a quadriga four. In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Helios is the god who personifies the Sun.   Helios is often depicted in art with a radiant crown and driving a horse-drawn chariot through the sky. He was a guardian of oaths and also the god of sight.   The Roman Emperor Julian made Helios the central divinity of his short-lived revival of traditional Roman religious practices in the 4th century AD.

Phaethon is the son of Helios who, out of a desire to have his parentage confirmed, travels to the Sun god's palace in the east. He is recognised by his father and  he asks for the privilege of driving his father’s  chariot for a single day. Despite Helios' fervent warnings and attempts to dissuade him, counting the numerous dangers he would face in his celestial journey and reminding Phaethon that only he can control the horses, the boy is not dissuaded and does not change his mind. He is then allowed to take the chariot's reins; his ride is disastrous, as he cannot keep a firm grip on the horses. As a result, he drives the chariot too close to the Earth, burning it, and too far from it, freezing it.

Vettiver Chapparam 2026 ~ Erinnerungen an die Zukunft

Erinnerungen an die Zukunft  -    what ??

Heard of ‘Chrysopogonzizanioides’ and wonder what is has to do with a Temple related post, especially one on the last day of Brahmothsavam at Thiruvallikkeni - the  10th day – Sapthavaranam, dwadasa aradhanam  and siriyathiruther of Sri Parthasarathi  Perumal  Chithirai   brahmothsavam at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam on 10.5.2026.   The  brahmothsavam is a grand 10 day affair with Emperuman having purappadu in many vahanams including Sesha, Simha, Garuda, Hamsa, Hanumantha, Yaanai, Kuthirai and more .. thiruther (juggernaut) captures the eye of everyone. . ..  the uthsavam concludes with siriya thiruther known as Vettiver ther as this coolant is fixed on all sides of the ther.  Chariots have important mention in history as also in Ithihasa puranas.

Chariots of the Gods (German: Erinnerungen an die Zukunft, lit. 'memories of the future') a  West German documentary film directed by Harald Reinl hit the screens in 1970. It was  based on Erich von Däniken's book Chariots of the Gods?, a pseudo-scientific book that theorized extraterrestrials impacted early human life and evolution. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Cargo cult is a term used to denote various spiritual and political movements that arose among indigenous Melanesians following Western colonisation of the region in the late 19th century. Features common to most cargo cult groups include the presence of charismatic prophet figures foretelling an imminent cataclysm and/or a coming utopia for followers—a worldview known as millenarianism.  Claims made by these prophets varied greatly from movement to movement, with some predicting the return of the dead or an abundance of food.  Some movements sought to appease "ancestral spirits or other powerful beings" by either reviving ancestral traditions or adopting new rituals, such as ecstatic dancing or imitating the actions of colonists and military personnel.

Chariots of the Gods?  Unsolved Mysteries of the Past -  is a book written in 1968 by Erich von Däniken and translated from the original German by Michael Heron. It involves the hypothesis that the technologies and religions of many ancient civilizations were given to them by ancient astronauts who were welcomed as gods.

The main thesis of Chariots of the Gods is that extraterrestrial beings influenced ancient technology. Von Däniken suggests that some ancient structures and artifacts appear to reflect more sophisticated technological knowledge than is known or presumed to have existed at the times they were manufactured. Von Däniken maintains that these artefacts were produced either by extraterrestrial visitors or by humans who learned the necessary knowledge from extraterrestrials. Such artifacts include the Egyptian pyramids, Stonehenge, and the Moai of Easter Island.  Further examples include an early world map known as the Piri Reis map, which von Däniken describes as showing Earth as it is seen from space,  and the Nazca Lines in Peru, which he suggests may have been constructed by humans as crude replicas of previous alien structures, as a way to call the aliens back to Earth.  He uses this same explanation to argue that cart ruts in Malta may have had extraterrestrial purposes along with similar lines in Australia, Saudi Arabia, and the Aral Sea.

The book also suggests that ancient artwork throughout the world can be interpreted as depicting astronauts, air and space vehicles, extraterrestrials, and complex technology. Von Däniken describes elements that he believes are similar in the art of unrelated cultures.  Among the artwork he describes are ancient Japanese Dogū figurines (which he believes to resemble astronauts in spacesuits) and 3,000-year-old carvings in an Egyptian New Kingdom Temple that appear to depict helicopter-like machines. The book further suggests that the origins of many religions, including interpretations of the Old Testament of the Bible, are reactions to contact with an alien race. According to von Däniken, humans considered the technology of the aliens to be supernatural and the aliens themselves to be gods. Von Däniken asks if the oral and literal traditions of most religions contain references to visitors from stars and vehicles traveling through air and space. These, he says, should be interpreted as literal descriptions which have changed during the passage of time and become more obscure.

In our Puranas too there are references to Devas living outside the World as also to chariots, vimanas, flyers and more .. .. residents of vinnagaram are capable of performing much bigger deeds than humans, but our life revolves around Emperuman and the ultimate surrender unto Him.

On the  concluding day of Chithirai Brahmothsavam is ‘Sapthavaranam’ and  Sri Parthasarathi perumal has purappadu in Siriya Thiruther [known as vettiver chapparam].  On 10th May 2026, around 0930pm there was siriya thiruther purappadu.

Getting back to vettiver thiruther, it  is all about keeping the place cool .. .. both industrial refrigeration and air-conditioning are based on the same mechanism: a fluid, generally water or air, is cooled by evaporation of another fluid, called the refrigerant. The refrigerant circuit, comprising the compressor, evaporator, condenser and expansion device, is an integral part.  Air-conditioning is that process used to create and maintain certain temperature, relative humidity and air purity conditions in indoor spaces.  An air-conditioning system must be effective regardless of outside climatic conditions and involves control over four fundamental variables: air temperature, humidity, movement and quality.

Vettiver is a great coolant as also spreading fragrance.   ‘Vettiver Chapparam’… is embellished with mats of vettiver. The scientific name of  vettiver is  - ‘Chrysopogonzizanioides’, a type of grass of Poaceae family, native to India.  Also known as ‘khus’ Vettiver can grow up to 1.5 metres high and form clumps as wide. This Ther is known as ‘VettiverChapparam’ – for there used to be so many sheets made of this grass placed on the temple car.  One could feel the divine fragrance from a distance itself.

Here are some photos of Sri Parthasarathi   Emperuman sapthavarana thiruther purappadu.

Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman - Sesha vahanam 2026

Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman  - Sesha vahanam  2026

At Thiruvallikkeni divaydesam – for Sri Parthasarathi & Sri Azhagiya Singar brahmothsavam – on day 2 morning it is the majestic  beautiful Sesha vahanam.   Today  (2.5.2026) being day 2 of Sri Parthasarathi Chithirai   brahmothsavam, there was grand purappadu of  Sri Parthasarathi  in Sesha vahanam as Paramapatha Nathar.

Of those who render service to MahaVishnu, Ananthan – the Adi Sesha serves Him in the best possible manner that one could visualize.  He is with Him when He is moving, sitting and at Thirupparkadal, Emperuman is reclining on him.  The serpentine Ananthazhwaan is ever at the service of the Lord in every possible manner.

Snakes have coexisted with humans for millions of years. There are more than 3,000 species of snakes on the planet and they’re found everywhere except in Antarctica, Iceland, Ireland, Greenland, and New Zealand. About 600 species are venomous, and only about 200—seven percent—are able to kill or significantly wound a human.   The serpent, or snake, is one of the oldest and most widespread mythological symbols. The word is derived from Latin serpens, a crawling animal or snake.  Snake  worship has been prevalent in many cultures.

In Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, amidst the vast forests and archaeological sites, lies the awe-inspiring city of Chichén Itzá. This ancient Maya metropolis is renowned for its architecture, intricate mythology and reverence for Kukulkan, the feathered serpent god. A "vision serpent" in Maya culture, Kukulkan represented an important connection between the physical world and the spiritual world, and played a part in many of the people's social and religious traditions.  The god Kukulkan is an important figure in Maya history, dating back to pre-Hispanic Mesoamerica's classic period (250 to 900 C.E.). The Yucatec Maya attributed their living habits and agricultural practices to the benevolence of this god, among other deities.

Kukulkan, also known as Quetzalcoatl among the Aztecs, was more than just a deity worshipped by the Maya peoples; he was a creator god, symbolizing the interconnectedness of life, the underworld and the sky. Maya mythology often depicts Kukulkan as a feathered serpent because snakes were symbols of life above and below the earth, while winged creatures were symbols of the sky. The cult of Kukulkan/Quetzalcoatl was the first Mesoamerican religion to transcend the old Classic Period linguistic and ethnic divisions.  This cult facilitated communication and peaceful trade among peoples of many different social and ethnic backgrounds.  Although the cult was originally centred on the ancient city of Chichen Itza in the modern Mexican state of Yucatán, it spread as far as the Guatemalan Highlands and northern Belize.

There is the illustrious lineage of Purvacharyargal – the hierarchy of Srivaishnava preceptors – through whom the glorious traditions passed by in generations.  Its happy culmination with Namperumal Himself becoming disciple of Acarya Mamunigal redounds the wisdom of our holy lineage.  Swami Emperumanar (Sri Ramanujar) and Mamunigal – both were incarnation of Adisesha.  Born as Nayanar, Mamunigal was an ocean of knowledge, yet learnt at the feet of his erudite father and others – the way Sri Rama and Sri Krishna did, during their stay on earth – through courses under great sages of their times like Vasistha, Viswamitra, Sandeepani .. ..

. Here is one of the verses of Boothathazhwar:
