"நுண்ணேர்மையன்" - infinitesimist !!! ~ Aani Revathi Sri Ranganathar 2026 -

Aani Revathi Sri Ranganathar 2026 - "நுண்ணேர்மையன்" - infinitesimist !!!

எம்பெருமான் எத்தகையவன் ?  -  " நுண்ணேர்மையன்

   - அப்படி என்றால் !?!?! -  நேர்மை என்றால்  – நுட்பம்.

Small !  Tiny !  -  Atoms represent the smallest pieces of matter with constant properties, and are referred to as the basic unit of matter. However, Scientists have discovered that atoms are not the smallest particles in nature.  In mathematics, an infinitesimal number is a quantity that is closer to zero than any standard real number, but that is not zero. The word infinitesimal comes from a 17th-century Modern Latin coinage infinitesimus ! which originally referred to the "infinity-th" item in a sequence.

Generally we call them ‘minute’ (no reference to Time here) – meaning exceptionally small, tiny !!  - at one time atoms were thought to be the tiniest particles of matter.  Not any longer !!

Electrons are one of the things inside atoms and they are seen moving around when an electric current flows.  The list of tiniest things  include quarks, gluons, electrons and neutrinos. Then there are the forces that join those things up: light is one of them. Light is carried by little particles called photons; then  there is the Higgs boson particle, which was found in recent times, found to be  smaller than an atom.

"Miniscule" is a common variant spelling of "minuscule," which means "very small" or "extremely tiny." Minuscule can also refer to lowercase letters or to a style of small medieval handwriting.

Scientists study minuscule items by combining sensitive instruments, controlled experiments, and careful data analysis to observe, measure, and test phenomena far below everyday perception.  To detect a single protein molecule researchers might tag it with a fluorescent label, image it with a sensitive camera and total internal reflection microscopy, then use image analysis to confirm the signal above background noise.  Raman spectroscopy is a light-scattering technique used to identify materials by how their molecules vibrate. A laser shines on the sample, and most of the light bounces back unchanged, but a very small part changes energy in a way that reveals the material’s chemical “fingerprint.”

When the laser hits the sample, most scattered light is Rayleigh scattering, meaning it keeps the same wavelength as the laser. A tiny fraction is Raman scattered light, where the wavelength shifts because the light exchanges energy with molecular vibrations.  That shift is what scientists measure, and the pattern of peaks tells them what bonds or structures are present.

No Science or GK post but today being Revathi in the month of Aani – something on Periya Perumal – Lord of Thiruvarangam – Sri Ranganathan, resting on Adisesha on the beautiful island full of coconut trees, big walls, flowing water, riches and devotees – surrounded by the holy Cauvery that washes pearls and gems against the golden walls of the Temple built by Devas.  Emperuman here is everything the mightiest as also the one who resides in the tiniest of the substances.

எம்பெருமான் எத்தகையவன் ?  -  " நுண்ணேர்மையன்"  - அப்படி என்றால் !?!?! -  நேர்மை என்றால்  – நுட்பம்.

Remember - this day !! ~ Five years ago !!!!

How good is your memory ! – this day 5 years ago, brought relief and happiness to most of us.  Today,  September 1 is the 244th  day of the year (245th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar; 121 days remain until the end of the year.

The Crisis of the Tumu Fortress, also known as the Tumu Crisis,  was a border conflict between the Oirat Mongols and the Ming dynasty. In July 1449, Esen Taishi, leader of the Oirat Mongols, launched a large-scale, three-pronged invasion of China. Despite having capable generals, Emperor Yingzong of Ming, under the influence of eunuch Wang Zhen who dominated the Ming court at the time, made the decision to personally lead his armies into battle against Esen. On  this day, 576 years ago,   Ming army suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the much weaker Mongols, and the emperor was captured.  This defeat was one of the biggest military failures in the Ming dynasty's three centuries of existence, and it was largely attributed to the poor leadership of their army.

On this day in 1604,   Adi Granth, now known as Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhs, was   first installed at Harmandir Sahib.

The Guru Granth Sahib  is the central holy religious scripture of Sikhism, regarded by Sikhs as the final, sovereign and eternal Guru following the lineage of the ten human gurus of the religion. The Adi Granth   first rendition, was compiled by the fifth guru, Guru Arjan (1564–1606). Its compilation was completed on 29 August 1604 and first installed inside the Golden Temple in Amritsar on 1 September 1604.  Later, Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru, added hymns of Guru Tegh Bahadur to the Adi Granth and affirmed the text as his successor. This second rendition became known as the Guru Granth Sahib and is also sometimes referred to as the Adi Granth.   The text consists of 1,430 angs (pages) and 5,894 shabads (line compositions), which are poetically rendered and set to a rhythmic ancient north Indian classical form of music.

The Golden Temple  is a gurdwara located in Amritsar, Punjab, India. It is the pre-eminent spiritual site of Sikhism. It is one of the holiest sites in Sikhism,  the land that became Amritsar and houses the Harimandir Sahib was chosen by Guru Amar Das, the third Guru of the Sikh tradition. It was then called Guru Da Chakk, after he had asked his disciple Ram Das to find land to start a new town with a man-made pool as its central point.  The Harmandir Sahib   also called the Durbār Sahib,  meaning  "sacred audience",  is well known as  Golden Temple for its gold leaf-covered sanctum centre.

Coming to this day – 5 years ago !!  -  the year 2020 started on an ordinary note and sooner turned virulent – the Corona Virus to be named Covid 19 took  over the Globe and the whole World underwent  untold suffering !   there have been bad influences like Spanish flu, Economic crisis, World War and more .. ..  In that year, the monsoon season  arrived in South Asia and   ravaged large swathes of farming and urban areas, leaving millions who were already suffering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in financial ruin. More than 10 million people in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal had  been affected by monsoon floods in 2020, the worst flooding since 1998.  Bangladesh was badly affected with One-third of the Nation going  underwater after torrential rains caused 53 rivers to overflow in June, when Bangladesh was just beginning to recover from the devastation left by Cyclone Amphan in May.

2020 was the year when the Globe almost stopped rotating and came to literal halt due to the Corona virus – on Mar 19, 2020, Nation heard with awe, the speech of Honble PM Shri Narendra Modiji who in an extremely balanced manner, explained the situation, threats, measures, expectations and plan of action as a Janata Curfew was announced on 22.3.2020 from 7 am to 9 pm.

Then came those days of difficulty hard to fathom and beyond wild imaginations. In tune with the National Policy, Tamil Nadu State Govt announced curfew, effectively closing its border with neighbouring Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra.   Sadly, the Curfew was imposed, extended and continued for a few more months.

Sept. 1, 2020 was a day of big relief to people after continuous lock-downs.   People were out on the streets.  On the first day of bus services resumption after lockdown relaxation, as many as 6,090 buses operated across the State.   While MTC resumed operation of about 2,400 buses, the six divisions of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations (TNSTC)  operated the rest of the buses.

That was a time when Corona had not been completely driven out and lurking fears remained at large.   As India entered the fourth phase of the post-pandemic ‘unlock’ process, the Indian Railways started more special passenger trains in high-demand sectors

Sept 1 2020 was an all-important day as after 160 days Temples reopened and devotees were allowed inside the Temples and could have darshan.  At Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, the crowds were not exactly swelling – people stood in queue, were given a token (which was collected immediately after two / three steps by another person !) – those in the queue proceeded having darshan of Thirukachi Nambigal, Vedanthachar, Sri Ramanujar, Swami Manavala Mamunigal, Pillailogachar and -  could have darshan of moolavar Sri VenkataKrishnan from distance [from Dwarapalakas] and then had  darshan at Sri Vedavalli thayar, Sri Varadha Rajar, Sri Azhagiya Singar, Andal sannathies, proceeding further towards yagashala of Pavithrothsavam.

Temples in other parts too opened and devotees could have darshan.  Unimaginable that there could be a situation, when people had to remain at home, Temples too remained locked !!  -  Sept, 1, 2020 was thus a day indeed satisfying to devotees who had been silently praying Emperuman in thoughts only !!  - and this was a time when they could stand before the Lord, pray and focus on some kainkaryam too.

Today almost all of us have forgotten those black days and a decade or so more, we will only recall the bad memories in books or social media.  Here are couple of photos of devotees at Sri Parthasarathi swami thirukkovil during Vaikunda Ekadasi [file pics of Temple and devotees – Vaikunda Ekadasi day earlier years]

Arctiv, Franklin's Expedition - Vaikasi Ekadasi 2025

23rd May 2025  is Krishna Paksha Ekadasi in the month Vaikasi.

May 23 is the 143rd  day of the year (144th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar; 222 days remain until the end of the year.  Human avarice knows no bounds  - mankind has fought wars for land and more and now Nations are trying to have their presence felt in Arctic.

The Arctic is the polar region of Earth that surrounds the North Pole, lying within the Arctic Circle. The Arctic region, consists of parts of northern Norway (Nordland, Troms, Finnmark, Svalbard and Jan Mayen), northernmost Sweden (Västerbotten, Norrbotten and Lappland), northern Finland (North Ostrobothnia, Kainuu and Lappi), Russia (Murmansk, Siberia, Nenets Okrug, Novaya Zemlya), the United States (Alaska), Canada (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut), Danish Realm (Greenland), and northern Iceland (Grímsey and Kolbeinsey), along with the Arctic Ocean and adjacent seas.

Land within the Arctic region has seasonally varying snow and ice cover, with predominantly treeless permafrost under the tundra. Arctic seas contain seasonal sea ice in many places. The Arctic region is a unique area among Earth's ecosystems. The cultures in the region and the Arctic indigenous peoples have adapted to its cold and extreme conditions. Life in the Arctic includes zooplankton and phytoplankton, fish and marine mammals, birds, land animals, plants, and human societies.

Franklin's lost expedition was a failed British voyage of Arctic exploration led by Captain Sir John Franklin that departed England in 1845 aboard two ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, and was assigned to traverse the last unnavigated sections of the Northwest Passage in the Canadian Arctic and to record magnetic data to help determine whether a better understanding could aid navigation. The expedition met with disaster after both ships and their crews, a total of 129 officers and men, became icebound in Victoria Strait near King William Island in what is today the Canadian territory of Nunavut. After being icebound for more than a year, Erebus and Terror were abandoned in April 1848, by which point two dozen men, including Franklin, had died. The survivors, now led by Franklin's second-in-command, Francis Crozier, and Erebus's captain, James Fitzjames, set out for the Canadian mainland and disappeared, presumably having perished.

Pressed by Franklin's wife, Jane, and others, the Admiralty launched a search for the missing expedition in 1848. In the many subsequent searches in the decades afterwards, several artefacts from the expedition were discovered, including the remains of two men, which were returned to Britain. A series of scientific studies in modern times suggested that the men of the expedition did not all die quickly. Hypothermia, starvation, lead poisoning or zinc deficiency and diseases including scurvy, along with general exposure to a hostile environment while lacking adequate clothing and nutrition, killed everyone on the expedition in the years after it was last sighted by a whaling ship in July 1845. Cut marks on some of the bones recovered during these studies also supported allegations of cannibalism.  Despite the expedition's notorious failure, it did succeed in exploring the vicinity of one of the many Northwest Passages that would eventually be discovered.

In the modern day, as soon as Magnus Mæland became mayor of a small town on Norway's northern tip in late 2023, three delegations from China came knocking on his door, because they want to be Polar superpower.  China might not instinctively spring to mind when you think about the Arctic - but it's determined to be a big Arctic player. It's been vying to buy real estate, get involved in infrastructure projects and hopes to establish a permanent regional presence.  China already describes itself as a "near-Arctic state", even though its northernmost regional capital Harbin is on roughly the same latitude as Venice, Italy.

Yes, the  Arctic is fast becoming one of the most hotly-contested parts of the world. Beijing faces stiff competition from Russia, Europe, India and the US.  The race for the Arctic is on.   Climate scientists say the Arctic is warming four times faster than anywhere else. This impacts ecosystems, wildlife and local populations. The Arctic is enormous, encompassing 4% of the globe. But global powers see a new world of opportunities opening up in the Arctic on the back of environmental changes. The melting ice in the Arctic makes it easier to access the region's incredible natural resources - critical minerals, oil, and gas - around 30% of untapped natural gas is said to be found in the Arctic.

And it's opening up possibilities for new maritime trade routes, drastically reducing travel time between Asia and Europe. In the export business, time is money. Russia controls a whopping half of the Arctic shoreline - and it's been hoovering up Chinese investments.  The two countries cooperate militarily in the Arctic too.  Every country bordering the Arctic is a member of Nato except Russia. Finland and Sweden joined after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Moving away from all the melee, life is blissfully peaceful for those who surrender to the lotus feet of Sriman Narayana.

It is surrendering unto Him being guided by our Acaryas.  Prapatti is neither mere faith in the saving grace of Sriman Narayana  nor a mere prayer to Him for protection/ salvation / moksha. Prapatti would not  mean a mere surrender and a life centered around serving Sriman Narayana.  The concept of Prapatti encompasses all of this & is much much more. Though "Saranagathi" is in general used for denoting "surrender" – it is a life of ultimate surrender and living under the lotus feet of Sriman Narayana.

"Vishwavasu" Tamil New Year 2025 wishes !!

*அனைவருக்கும் இனிய விசுவாவசு  தமிழ் புத்தாண்டு நல்வாழ்த்துக்கள் !*

The Krodhi year has gone - Vishwavasu has come; and, people are happy – today is Tamil Varusha pirappy [New Year]. Well, how many Krodhis have gone and how many Vishwavasus have come, since the years were named and even before that, how many centuries and millennia have elapsed in the history of mankind !!!

On April 23  1905 – German General Lothar von Trotha commander of troops in Germany's colony of Südwestafrika (modern-day Namibia), ordered the extermination of the Nama people within the colony's borders, ultimately killing 10,000.  Von Trotha's proclamation Aan de oorlogvorende Namastamme, proclaimed that "The Nama who chooses not to surrender and lets himself be seen in German territory will be shot, until all are exterminated."

Year 1905 was  marked by significant political and social upheavals, notably the Russian Revolution, the Russo-Japanese War, and the Partition of Bengal. The year also saw advancements in science, with Albert Einstein publishing groundbreaking papers on special relativity and other topics.   1905 journal article, by Albert Einstein, proved the reality of atoms, the modern understanding of which had been proposed in 1808 by John Dalton. It is one of the four groundbreaking papers Einstein published in 1905, in Annalen der Physik, in his miracle year.

The first Partition of Bengal (1905) was a territorial reorganization of the Bengal Presidency implemented by the authorities of the British Raj. The reorganization separated the largely Muslim eastern areas from the largely Hindu western areas. Announced on 16 October 1905 by Lord Curzon, then Viceroy of India, and implemented West Bengal for Hindus and East Bengal for Muslims, it was undone a mere six years later. The Partition was aimed for administration purposes but in fact is treated as divide and rule policy and further agitated people, who perceived that it was a deliberate attempt to divide the Bengal Presidency on religious grounds, with a Muslim majority in the east and a Hindu majority in the west, thereby weakening the nationalist cause.  The Hindus of West Bengal complained that the division would make them a minority in a province that would incorporate the province of Bihar and Orissa. Hindus were outraged at this "divide and rule" policy.   To appease Bengali sentiment, Bengal was reunited by King George V in 1911, in response to the Swadeshi movement's riots in protest against the policy. The Bengal division supremacy plot was planned by lord Curzon. This was done primarily for administrative purposes but also to weaken the growing Indian Nationalist Movement.

Years later in 1965 occurred – ‘The Indo-Pakistani war’ - an armed conflict between Pakistan and India that took place from August 1965 to September 1965. The conflict began following Pakistan's unsuccessful Operation Gibraltar,  which was designed to infiltrate forces into Jammu and Kashmir to precipitate an insurgency against Indian rule.  The seventeen day war caused thousands of casualties on both sides and witnessed the largest engagement of armoured vehicles and the largest tank battle since World War II. Hostilities between the two countries ended after a ceasefire was declared through UNSC Resolution 211 following a diplomatic intervention by the Soviet Union and the United States, and the subsequent issuance of the Tashkent Declaration.  Much of the war was fought by the countries' land forces in Kashmir and along the border between India and Pakistan. This war saw the largest amassing of troops in Kashmir since the Partition of India in 1947, a number that was overshadowed only during the 2001–2002 military standoff between India and Pakistan.

In Feb 1965 in a drawn test between India and New Zealand at Corporation stadium, the famed Off spinner Srinivasan Venkatraghavan debuted alongside  Terry Jarvis and Vic Pollard.  That was to be the last test played at Corporation stadium as subsequent tests are played at Chepauk Stadium.

In case you are wondering reading about happenings of 1905 & 1965 – both were Vishwavasu Tamil years (actually that would have been  Apr 1905- Mar 06 & Apr 1965- Mar 66.  The term “Samvatsara” is a Sanskrit word for ‘year’ in the Vedic literature. It roughly means a period of one full year when the Sun enters the sign of Aries. Some astrologers define it as the time in which Brihaspati (planet Jupiter) with its average speed crosses the journey of one zodiac sign and moves on to the next. According to this definition, when Jupiter completes the entire circle of traversing all 12 zodiac signs, it comprises 12 Samvatsaras. During the entire journey, Jupiter is either close by or far from planet Earth based on which it creates positive or negative influences for an individual. The Hindu calendar has a cycle of 60 years long and is named from Prabhava to Kshaya. Every year, the new Hindu year begins at the end of April. Prabhava corresponds to the Christian year 1987 in the current cycle.

In the ‘Vaivasvatha Manvantharam, after passage of 27 Maha Yugas ~ now in the 28th Mahayuga – after passage of 3 Yugas ~ in the Kali Yuga – after passage of 4 lakh 28 thousands of years –  the birth of year  Kali  5126  Salivahana Saha  1947 –  Pasali 1434 – Kollam 1200 - Chithirai 1  -   Swathi, Dwidiyai  day  (14.4.2025) …… should go the lengthy introduction exactly describing today ~ birth of Viswavasu   New Year this day !

A few years ago the  birth of Sarvari Tamil New year in some ways was unheralded – a very different one – Covid19 threatening the entire World.  People were asked not  to be on the streets, Temples closed for bakthas and that way  - all that is a thing of the past, most humans have forgotten that there was Covid 19 !!!!

Thai Amavasai 2025 – (when) will World end !

Thai Amavasai 2025 – when will World end !

Set in the eponymous year, the film depicts a dystopian world in which humanity is close to extinctionA theme that exists in every religion – that World will come to an end one day, may be due to extraordinary natural forces ! With the complete disappearance of the trees, the natural oxygen doesn’t exist any longer. People must rely on its synthetic variation, but because of its exorbitant price, the poor can hardly afford it. The first half of the film takes place in the only city in the world in which electricity is still available.  The protagonist’s wife Xanthe, has a condition known simply as The Sickness, which gradually makes a victim’s body unable to process the artificial oxygen. Ethan and Jude work at the world’s only active nuclear power plant. Ethan’s apparently normal if bleak existence is interrupted when the corporation that he works for tells him that he is needed to save the World.

Predictions of apocalyptic events that will result in the extinction of humanity, a collapse of civilization, or the destruction of the planet have been made since at least the beginning of the Common Era.

The prophecies of legendary mystics Nostradamus and Baba Vanga are making headlines as 2025 has just begun, raising concerns about potential chaos and conflict. With predictions suggesting a tumultuous year ahead, both figures offer strikingly similar warnings about the future.  Recent interpretations of their prophecies suggest that both Nostradamus and Baba Vanga foresee severe global challenges in 2025. Nostradamus warns, "the ancient plague will be worse than enemies," indicating that Europe may face another pandemic along with "cruel wars." He also highlights natural disasters, predicting that Brazil will experience volcanic activity and deadly flooding. Similarly, Baba Vanga predicts conflict will erupt between two countries in mainland Europe, leading to devastating global consequences. She suggests that these events could trigger a global apocalypse. Furthermore, she envisions alien encounters during major global events and anticipates that humans will achieve perfect telepathy within the next year. On a darker note, she predicts a "Martian war" with aliens.

Heard of Doomsday Clock !  :  that has been ticking for 77 years,  is no ordinary clock — it attempts to gauge how close humanity is to destroying the world.  On 28.1.2025 Tuesday, the clock was again set at 89 seconds to midnight — the closest to the hour it has ever been, according to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which created the clock in 1947. Midnight represents the moment at which people will have made Earth uninhabitable. Last year the Bulletin set the clock at 90 seconds to midnight mainly due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the increased risk of nuclear escalation.

The threat from sky has always loomed large - Although likely to kill many (or all) inhabitants on our planet, an enormous asteroid or comet impact would not have the energy to destroy Earth. Nor would the explosion of a powerful supernova within a few light-years. However, orbital instabilities in the Solar System may eventually lead to a catastrophic collision between Earth and one of the other terrestrial planets – Mercury, Venus or Mars. Yet the possibility of that happening is only about1per cent over the next five billion years or so.

In our sampradhayam – there are yugas and at the end of Kali Yuga, the World will be wiped out of its living things by a big monstrous wave. Apocalypse (from Ancient Greek   (apokálupsis) 'revelation, disclosure') is a literary genre in which a supernatural being reveals cosmic mysteries or the future to a human intermediary. The means of mediation include dreams, visions and heavenly journeys. Eschatology, from Greek eschatos, last, concerns expectations of the end of the present age, and apocalyptic eschatology is the application of the apocalyptic world-view to the end of the world, when God will punish the wicked and reward the faithful.  An apocalypse will often contain much eschatological material.

"Apocalypse" has come to be used popularly as a synonym for catastrophe, but the Greek word apokálypsis, from which it is derived, means a revelation.  It has been defined as "a genre of revelatory literature with a narrative framework, in which a revelation is mediated by an otherworldly being to a human recipient, disclosing a transcendent reality which is both temporal, in that it envisages eschatological salvation, and spatial, insofar as it involves another, supernatural world."

In the final moments before a total solar eclipse, the temperature drops, birds and insects sing, and the ambient light becomes otherworldly.   Daytime morphs into a 360-degree dusk, and where the Sun once hung a black hole punches through the sky, wreathed by a white ethereal glow  -  what are we talking about ?  Some might be surprised.  ‘Corona’ is not a new word, not a bad one either.  That white ethereal glow   described is the solar corona, the Sun’s tenuous upper atmosphere of ionized gas.  The Sun’s corona is the outermost part of the Sun’s atmosphere. The corona is usually hidden by the bright light of the Sun's surface. That makes it difficult to see without using special instruments. However, the corona can be viewed during a total solar eclipse.   .. Mahabaratha has reference to Solar  eclipse.

PS  :  The Doomsday Clock is a symbol that represents the estimated likelihood of a human-made global catastrophe, in the opinion of the members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.  Maintained since 1947, the Clock is a metaphor, not a prediction, for threats to humanity from unchecked scientific and technological advances. The Doomsday Clock is set every year by the experts on the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board in consultation with its Board of Sponsors, which currently includes nine Nobel laureates.
