பக்தி காவியங்களிலே திருப்பாவை ஒரு உயர்ந்த இடத்தைக்கொண்டது.   ஆண்டாள் நீராட்ட உத்சவத்தில்  ஆறாம்  நாள் இன்று (11.1.2026)  .. திருப்பாவையில், இன்றைய நாள் பாசுரம் =   “கூடாரை வெல்லும் சீர்க் கோவிந்தா ” !! அக்காரம்  என்ற சொல் அறிவீரா !!  .. .. மிக மிக இனியது இது.

                Today ~  is a very significant day,  the 27^th  day of the tamil month of Margazhi. Colloquially known as “Koodarai Valli” – this is a day, when  sweet pongal [made of jaggery with ghee flowing] is offered to God and then shared with all near and dear.. This day assumes significance from the pasuram of Chudi Kudutha Nachiyar – Andal.  In the month of Margazhi starting from day one, one verse of Thiruppavai is ascribed to a day and today is the 27th verse “Koodarai vellum Seer Govinda” 

பொங்கல் பண்டிகை என்றாலே புத்தாடைகளுடன், புதுப்பானையில் சுவையான பொங்கலிட்டு, சூரியனுக்குப் படைப்பதுதான்.  பொங்கலுக்கு மிக முக்கியமானது புதிதாக விளைந்த அரிசியும், புது வெல்லமும்தான்.  வெல்லம்  எனப்படுவது பதனிடப்படாத சர்க்கரை ஆகும்.  வெல்லம் இந்திய துணைக்கண்டத்தில் சுமார் 2500 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக தொன்றுதொட்டு உட்கொள்ளப்படும் ஒரு பண்டமாகும்.  அக்காரம்  : என்பதற்கு பல பொருட்கள் உண்டு.  :   இனிப்பான பொருள், வெல்லம் / சர்க்கரை; கற்கண்டு, கரும்பு என்பன முக்கியமானவை.  அக்காரம் என்பதற்கு கரும்பு, கரும்பில் இருந்து எடுக்கப்படும் சர்க்கரை என்று பொருள். அடிசில் என்றால் சோறு.  எம்பெருமானுக்கு சமர்ப்பிக்கப்படும்  நெய்யும், பாலும் அதிகம் சேர்த்து செய்யப்படும் இந்த அக்கார அடிசில், கைகளில் எடுத்தால் வழிந்தோடும்படியான, பாதி திட திரவ பதத்தில் இருக்கும். 

பாவை நோன்பு நோற்கும் ஆண்டாளும் தோழிகளும்  -  “வையத்து வாழ்வீர்காள்” பாசுரத்தில், “நெய்யுண்ணோம் பாலுண்ணோம்” என்று பிரதிஜ்ஞை பண்ணின இவர்கள் இன்று நோன்பு நோற்று முடிக்கையாலே உணவை வேண்டுகின்றனர்.  ஆண்டாள் நாச்சியார் திருமொழியில் திருமாலிருஞ்சோலை நம்பிக்கு  நூறு தடாவில் வெண்ணெய் நூறு தடா நிறைந்த அக்கார அடிசில் சமர்ப்பித்து, ஏறுதிருவுடையான் இன்று வந்திவை  கொள்ளுங்கொலோ எனப் பாட,  எம்பெருமானார் உடையவர் அவளுடைய நேர்த்தியைப் பூர்த்தி செய்யத் திருமாலிருஞ்சோலை அழகருக்கு நூறு தாடா அக்கார அடிசலும், வெண்ணையும் சமர்பித்து ஆண்டாளுக்கு அண்ணனானார். 

இன்று பாசுர சிறப்பிற்காக  பால், நெய், அரிசி, பயத்தம் பருப்பு வெல்லம், ஏலக்காய்த் தூள், பச்சைக் கற்பூரம் இவை கலந்து அக்காரவடிசல் பதமாக செய்யப்பட்டு, எம்பெருமானுக்கு சமர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்டு,  “கூடியிருந்து குளிர்ந்து” என ஆண்டாள் நாச்சியார் அருளிச்செய்தபடி, அனைவருக்கும் வழங்கப்படுகின்றது 

 The true quality of Sri Vaishnavaite is to renounce everything, fall at the Lotus feet of  Sriman Narayana and feel happy of the fact of being his  eternal follower, allowing the Master to decide, determine and dictate the future. The best of wealth that one can get is the chance to do kainkaryam (service) to the God Himself and to Bhagavathas (His followers)

பாடிப் பறைகொண்டு யாம்பெறு சம்மானம்*

நாடு புகழும் பரிசினால் நன்றாகச்*

சூடகமே தோள்வளையே தோடே செவிப்பூவே*

பாடகமே என்றனைய பல்கலனும் யாமணிவோம்*

ஆடை உடுப்போமதன்பின்னே பாற்சோறு*

மூடநெய் பெய்து முழங்கை வழிவாரக்*

கூடியிருந்து குளிர்ந்தேலோரெம்பாவாய்.

நெய்யுண்ணோம், பாலுண்ணோம் என்று சொன்னவர்கள் மூட நெய் பெய்து முழங்கை வழிவார உன்றன்னைப் பாடிப்பறை கொண்டு கூடியிருந்து உண்போம் என்று நோன்பினால் உன்னை அடைகிறோம் – அதனால் நோன்பின் பூர்த்தியாக உன் ப்ராஸாதங்களை நீ அருளியவற்றை அனுபவிக்கிறோம் என விசேஷம்.  

கோதைப்பிராட்டி இந்த  கூடாரை வெல்லுஞ் சீர்க் கோவிந்தா! பாசுரத்தில், இனி வரும் இரண்டு பாசுரங்களிலுமாக கோவிந்த நாமத்தை அனுசந்திக்கிறாள். கூடாரை என்றால் – இவனை வணங்கமாட்டேன் என்று த்வேஷிக்கிற பேர்களை கூட  வெல்லுகிற கோவிந்தா என்கிறாள்.  கூடாரை என்றால் வெறுக்கிற பேர்வழிகள். வெறுப்பாலேயே சதா அவனைப்பற்றி நினைத்துக் கொண்டிருப்பவர்கள். ஹிரண்யாக்ஷன் – ஹிரண்யகசிபு, ராவணன் – கும்பகர்ணன், சிசுபாலன் – தந்த வக்ரன் என்று வெறுப்பின் மூல முடிச்சாக, ஆணி வேறாக – இதற்கு மேலாக வெறுக்க முடியாது என்ற அசுரேந்த்ரர்களாக, த்வேஷ திலகமாக இருப்பவர்களை தோற்கப்பண்ணுகிறானாம்! அவர்கள் கருத்தைப் பிழைப்பித்து வெல்கிறான். கோ என்றால் பசு. பசுதனம் லபதே விந்ததி இதி கோவிந்த: என்றார்கள். பசுக்கள் அவனை எங்களை ரக்ஷிக்க வா.. எங்கள் பின்னால் வா என்று அழைக்கவில்லை. அப்படி வருவதால் நாங்கள் கேட்காமலே வந்தாயே என்று கொண்டாடப் போவதுமில்லை. இப்படி இருக்கிற பசுக்கள் பின்னாடியும் போனானே! அவைகள் கேட்காமலே ரக்ஷித்தானே என்று அந்த அர்த்ததில் ரக்ஷிப்பவன் கோவிந்தன் – வெறுப்பில்லாமல் இருப்பதே போதும் என்று கொண்டிருப்பவன் கோவிந்தன் என்று கோவிந்தா என்ற பதத்தை ஆண்டாள் ப்ரயோகித்தாள்! 

சூடகமே, தோள்வளையே, தோடே, செவிப்பூவே, பாடகமே என்றனைய பல்கலனும் – கேசாதி பாதமாக எல்லா அங்கங்களிலும் அணியும் பல்கலனும் நீ தரவேண்டும். சூடகம் என்னும் கைவளை, தோள்வளை, தோடு, செவிப்பூ என்னும் செவிக்கு மேலே அணிகிற நகை, பாடகம் என்றால் பாதத்தில் அணிகிற கழற்காப்பு என்று இவற்றை தரவேண்டும் என்கிறார்கள். உடுத்து களைந்த நின் பீதகவாடை என்று பெரியாழ்வார் பாடியது போல், அவனுடைய ஆடையையும் இவர்கள் எடுத்து அணிகிறார்கள்.  அதன்பின்னே பால்சோறு, மூட நெய்பெய்து முழங்கை வழிவார என்று வ்ரத பூர்த்தியாக, பால் சோறும், முழங்கை வரை வழியும் அளவுக்கு நெய்யுமாக அவனுக்கு சமர்பித்து தாங்களும் அனுபவித்து கூடியிருந்து குளிர்வோம் என்கிறாள் ஆண்டாள். 

To us, the bakthas, it is not only of getting that much sought benevolence of God but more of sharing them with all bhakthas *கூடியிருந்து குளிர்ந்து* [koodi irunthu kulirnthu]. Thiruppavai is also about Govindha Naama Sankeerthanam which reaches its peak in the concluding verses where She ponders ‘kurai ondrum illatha Govinda’. The myriad meanings of Thiruppavai are detailed in many many discourses of Sri Vaishnavaite Periyavars, especially during this month. 

Let us all get the great éclat and glory of all the Worlds by adorning ourselves eating rice food prepared using milk with sumptuous ghee and who eats this ksheerannam will stand ever united and remain cool in heart and joyous by the blessings of the Lord.   I offer my obeisance again and again to Goddess Godhadevi – to her alone – who awakened Lord Krishna and binded him with floral garlands already worn by her.

It's winter time in the northern hemisphere, but that's a season Chennai residents barely notice. Severe cold has gripped Tamil Nadu for weeks, with heavy fog statewide. Today morning  (Jan 11), Chennai was  unusually cold, with the chill lasting even into the afternoon.  When it drizzled it appeared as though small cold pricks .. and around the time of purappadu it was pretty cold and slight drizzle.  Due to some asantharpam, it was only siriya maada veethi purappadu.

Aandal Thiruppavai ilakkiyam : நென்னல் & the word Geostran !!

 

How good is your language skills – do you know what is the meaning of Tamil word  நென்னல்  or the word Geostran !! 

A day, as we know well -  is the time period of a full rotation of the Earth with respect to the Sun. On average, this is 24 hours (86,400 seconds). As a day passes at a given location it experiences morning, afternoon, evening, and night. This daily cycle drives circadian rhythms in many organisms, which are vital to many life processes.   Earth's rotation period relative to the International Celestial Reference Frame, called its stellar day by the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS), is 86 164.098 903 691 seconds of mean solar time. 

As we learn about the Day – there has to be Yesterday and Tomorrow as well.  Yesterday is a temporal construct of the relative past; literally of the day before the current day (today), or figuratively of earlier periods or times, often but not always within living memory. 

"Geostran dæg" is the Old English term for "yesterday," literally meaning "the day that is gone" or "yesterday's day," combining geostran (yesterday) and dæg (day). It's the ancient root of the modern English word "yesterday" and reflects how time passes quickly, with related forms found in other Germanic languages. The word "yesterday" traces its roots back to Old English and ancient Germanic languages.   It comes from geostran dæg of Old English, where geostran means "yesterday" and dæg means "day". In Proto-Germanic, the root is believed to be **gester-*, which also gave rise to the German gestern and Old Norse gær.

 

 

கோதை ஆண்டாளின் திருப்பாவை ஒரு சிறந்த பக்தி இலக்கியம்.  நோன்பு நோற்கும் ஆயர் சிறுமியர், கண்ணனைப் போற்றிப் பாடி, பறை பெறுவதற்காக நந்தகோபனின் மாளிகைக்கு வந்துள்ளனர். அவர்கள் ஆங்கே, வாயிற் காவலனைப் பார்த்து, "நேற்று கண்ணன் பறை தருவதாக வாக்குக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறான், நாங்கள் தூய்மையாக வந்துள்ளோம், கதவைத் திற" என்று வேண்டுகின்றனர். 

இந்த பாசுரத்தில் ஆரம்ப வரிகள் : 

நாயகனாய்  நின்ற நந்தகோபன்  உடைய

கோயில்  காப்பானே கொடித்தோன்றும்  தோரண வாயில்  காப்பானே  

இந்த பாசுரத்தில் ஆண்டாள் நாச்சியார் எம்பெருமான் தனக்கு அளித்த வாக்கை பற்றி குறிப்பிட "மாயன் மணிவண்ணன் நென்னலே வாய் நேர்ந்தான்" என இயம்புகிறாள்.  இந்த 'நென்னல்' என்றால் என்ன என்பது பற்றியே இந்த பதிவு. 

பகவானை அடைவதற்காக பாவை நோன்பு இருக்கும் கோதை - நென்னல் எனும் சொல், அதிகமாக தமிழில் வழக்கில் இல்லையோ !!  நென்னல் என்றால் - இன்றைக்கு முன் சென்ற நாள்;   "நென்னலே" என்பது நேற்றைக் குறிக்கும் ஒரு இலக்கியச் சொல், பெரும்பாலும் பக்தி இலக்கியங்களில் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.

நென்னல் - நெருநல் என்பதன் மரூஉ.  நெருநல் என்ற சொல்லுக்கு நேற்று என்று பொருள், குறிப்பாக 'நேற்று இருந்தவன் இன்று இல்லை' என்ற நிலையாமையை உணர்த்தும் திருக்குறள் 336-இல் இந்தச் சொல் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது;   "நெருநல் உளனொருவன் இன்றில்லை என்னும் பெருமை உடைத்து இவ்வுலகு"

"நென்ன னோக்கி நின்றா ரொருவர்" என்பது சிலப்பதிகாரத்தில் வரும் ஒரு தொடர், இதன் பொருள், "நேற்றை நோக்கி நின்ற ஒருவர்" அல்லது "நேற்று ஒருவர் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தார்" என்பதாகும். இங்கும்  'நென்னல்' என்பது 'நேற்று' என்ற பொருளைத் தரும் ஒரு பழைய தமிழ்ச் சொல்.

1993 தீபாவளி அன்று - பிரபு, ரம்பா, பானுபிரியா நடித்த உழவன் என்றொரு படம் வெளிவந்தது. !!!  ?? !!! 

மாரி,  என்ற பெயர்ச்சொல்லுக்கு :  மழை; பூராடம்; கள்; புள்வகை; மரணம்; பெரியம்மை என்று பல பொருட்கள் இருந்தாலும் - இன்றைய பதிவில் மாரி என்றால் மழை !!! மாரிகாலம் அல்லது மழைக்காலம் என்பது ஒரு பருவ காலம் -  குறிப்பிட்ட இடம் அல்லது ஒரு நாடு, ஒரு ஆண்டில் ஒன்று அல்லது ஒன்றுக்கு மேற்பட்ட ஒரு சில மாதங்கள், சராசரி மழைவீழ்ச்சியை பெறும் காலமே மாரிகாலம் என அழைக்கப்படுகின்றது.   

பக்தி காவியங்களிலே திருப்பாவை ஒரு உயர்ந்த இடத்தைக்கொண்டது.  ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனிடத்திலே அபரிமிதமான காதல், மிக அழகான சொல்லாடல், எளிய நடை, ஒரே தடவை படித்தவுடன் புரியக்கூடிய அர்த்தம் எனினும் பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான வியாக்கியானங்கள்  ~  எல்லாம் கோதைப்பிராட்டியின் திருப்பாவைக்கே உரியன.  ஆண்டாள் நீராட்ட உத்சவத்தில் இரண்டாம் நாள் இன்று - 7.1.2026 .. இன்றைய நாள் பாசுரம் ~  திருப்பாவையில் 'மாரி மலைமுழைஞ்சில் மன்னிக் கிடந்து  உறங்கும்' !! 

Rains  -  the northeast monsoon has come to an end,   with a slight deficit of 3%, receiving 428.9 mm against a normal of 442.8 mm, despite a strong October start and a late boost from Cyclone Ditwah, with November and December seeing significant dry spells due to high pressure and lack of favorable systems, breaking a 6-year surplus streak, though overall water availability remained decent due to earlier rains. "  In summary, NEM 2025 was characterized by a strong start, a significant dry mid-season, and a slight overall deficit, breaking a streak of surplus years, but water resources largely managed due to other factors.  

In 2025, flooding emerged as a dominant global climate hazard, characterized by intense flash floods, "weather whiplash" (rapid shifts from drought to deluge), and unprecedented glacial lake outbursts. These events were primarily driven by a warming atmosphere that holds more moisture, erratic monsoon patterns, and a stalling jet stream that anchored heavy rain over specific regions for days.  

Indonesia & Sumatra  experienced one of the year's worst disasters, where over 1,000 people died and 1.2 million were displaced due to catastrophic flash floods and landslides triggered by torrential monsoon rains and Cyclone Senyar.  In neighbouring Pakistan, severe monsoon flooding claimed over 1,000 lives and displaced millions, particularly in the northern provinces.  In the island of Srilanka,   Cyclone Ditwah caused the worst flooding since the early 2000s, killing at least 647 people and damaging roughly 4% of the country's GDP.   No rain /weather report this !  

இந்த வருஷம்   சென்னையில் நல்ல மழை பெய்தது !!  - இப்படி மார்கழி மாதத்தில் மழை பெய்யுமா என்ற ஒரு ஐயம் நம் மனதிலே உள்ளது !! மழை காலம் ஒரு இனிய காலம். மரங்களிலும், செடிகளிலும் தளிர் இலைகள் முளைக்கும். வர்ஷா காலத்தில் எல்லாவிடங்களும் ஒரு நீர்க்கோப்பாகும்படி மழைபெய்து வழியெல்லாம் தூறாகி ஸஞ்சாரத்திற்கு அயோக்யமாயிருக்குமாதலால்  அரசர்களும் தத்தம் பகைவரிடத்துள்ள பகையையும் மறந்து, சேனைகளைத் திரட்டிக் கொண்டு போர்புரியப் புறப்படுவதைத் தவிர்ப்பாராம். இன்றைய 'work from home' போல, இக்காலங்களில், மன்னர்களும் வீரர்களும் தந்தம் குடும்பத்தினருடன் ஆனந்தமாக பொழுதினை கழிப்பனராம்.      சிங்கங்களும் அக்காலத்தில் பர்வத குகைகளில்  கிடந்துறங்குமாம்.  அவை அப்படி உறங்கி பொழுது கழிக்கும் பொது  அவற்றின் குகை வாசலில் களிறுகள் வந்தடைந்து பிளிறினாலும் அவ்வொலி செவிப்படாதவாறாகவே அவை கிடந்துறங்கும்’ மாரிகாலங் கழிந்தவாறே அவை உறக்கத்தை விட்டெழுந்து, ‘நம் எல்லைக்குள் புகுந்தாரார்? எனச்சீறி நோக்குவதுபோற் கண்களில் நெருப்புப் பொறி பறக்கும்படி விழித்து நாற்புறமும் நோக்கி, உளைமயிர்கள் சிலம்பு மாறு சுற்றும் அசைந்து, உறங்கும்போது அவயவங்களை முடக்கிக்கொண்டு கிடந்தமை யாலுண்டான திமிர்ப்பு தீரும்படி அவயவங்களைத் முறுக்கேறி கிளம்பினாற்போலே நம் எம்பெருமான் வெளிப்பட்டதாக கோதை பிராட்டி தம் திருப்பாவை பாசுரத்திலே உரைக்கின்றார்.

Known as the "king of beasts" or "king of the jungle," these regal felines once roamed Africa, Asia and Europe, but now only live in parts of Africa and India.  Experts have long recognized two subspecies of lion, Panthera leo leo (the African lion) and Panthera leo persica (the Asiatic lion).  Lions have strong, compact bodies and powerful forelegs, teeth and jaws for pulling down and killing prey. Their coats are yellow-gold, and adult males have shaggy manes that range in color from blond to reddish-brown to black. The length and color of a lion's mane is likely determined by age, genetics and hormones. Young lions have light spotting on their coats that disappears as they grow. Without their coats, lion and tiger bodies are so similar that only experts can tell them apart.

சிங்கம் பிறக்கும்போதே “மருகேந்திரன்” என்றும் “ம்ருகராஜன்” என்றும் சிறப்புப் பெயரைப் பெறுதல் பற்றிச் சீரியசிங்கமெனப்பட்டது. கண்ணபிரானும் நரஸிம்ஹாவதாரத்திலே போற்றப்பட்டதாக  சிலபாகஞ் சிங்கமாயும் சிலபாகம் மானிடமாயுமிருக்கையன்றியே “சிற்றாயர் சிங்கம்” “யசோதையிளஞ்சிங்கம்” என்றபடி பூர்ண ஸிம்ஹமாயிருத்தலால், சீரிய எனும் அடைமொழி இவனுக்கு ஒக்குமென்க. மாரி மலை முழைஞ்சில் மன்னிக் கிடந்து உறங்கும்

சீரிய சிங்கம் அறிவுற்றுத் தீ விழித்து

வேரி மயிர் பொங்க எப்பாடும் பேர்ந்து உதறி

மூரி நிமிர்ந்து முழங்கிப் புறப்பட்டுப்

போதருமா போலே நீ பூவைப்பூ வண்ணா உன்

கோயில் நின்று இங்ஙனே போந்தருளி கோப்பு உடைய

சீரிய சிங்காசனத்து இருந்து யாம் வந்த

காரியம் ஆராய்ந்து அருள்-ஏலோர் எம்பாவாய் ! 

மழைகாலத்தில் மலையிலுள்ள குகைகளில் தனது பேடையுடன் உறங்கின  சீர்மையையுடைய சிங்கமானது, உணர்ந்தெழுந்து, நெருப்புப்பொறி பறக்கும்படி கண்களை விழித்து, தனது பிடரி சிலிர்த்து, உடம்பை உதறி - ஏனைய மிருகங்கள் நடுங்க, நாற்புறங்களிலும் புடைபெயர்ந்து  தனது சரீரத்தை  உதறி, சோம்பல் முறித்து, கர்ஜனை பண்ணி வெளிப்புறப்பட்டு வருவது போல, பூவை பூ வண்ணனான எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாரணன்  தனிஉடைய திருக்கோயிலினின்றும் எழுந்தருளி இவ்விடத்திலே  எழுந்தருளி கோப்பு உடைய அழகிய ஸந்நிவேசத்தையுடைய  சீரிய லோகோத்தரமான சிங்காசனத்து எழுந்தருளியிருந்து  நாங்கள் மநோரதித்துக் கொண்டு வந்த காரியத்தை ஆராய்ந்து கிருபை செய்ய வேணும்’ என கோதை பிராட்டி எம்பெருமானிடத்திலே  பிரார்த்திக்கின்றார்.

குயில்கள் நாளும் தெம்மாங்கு பாடும்  !  சோலை தான் இங்கில்லையே
