Panguni Uthiram 2023 - Pink moon !!

One object that has enamoured humans over centuries, is Moon.  Earth's Moon is the fifth largest moon in the solar system; it is  the only place beyond Earth where humans have set foot. The Earth and Moon are tidally locked. Their rotations are so in sync we only see one side of the Moon. Humans didn't see the lunar far side until a Soviet spacecraft flew past in 1959.

The rhythm of the phases of the moon has guided humanity for millennia; for instance, calendar months are roughly equal to the time it takes to go from one full moon to the next. But the moon's orbit and phases can seem mysterious. The  moon always shows us the same face, but it's always changing size as how much of it we see depends on the moon's position in relation to Earth and the sun.

While it's a satellite of Earth, the moon, with a diameter of about 2,159 miles (3,475 kilometers), is bigger than Pluto. (there are four other moons in our solar system even bigger than ours.)

Today is Pournami – the full moon – globally it is the "Pink Moon" set to  occur in the eastern U.S. on April 6 at 12:34 p.m. (0434 UTC), according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.  The timing of lunar phases depends on one's time zone; in Paris, the full moon occurs at 5:34 a.m. local time on April 6 while in Melbourne, Australia, it is at 2:34 p.m. local time.  Other names for this moon include the budding moon, flower moon and moon of the big leaves, among other names that came from Native American tribes in a nod to the flourishing foliage of the season, according to a guide compiled at Western Washington University.

The Paschal full moon is clearly visible in Chennai now – but from my terrace it is not appearing pink or any different colour !!

Today is Panguni Uthirai, day 5 concluding day of Pallava Uthsavam at Thiruvallikkeni divaydesam.  Here are some photos of Sri Ranganathar and moon taken this evening.
