Nadaswaram ~ Thiruvallikkeni Ekadasi Peyalwar Sri Parthasarathi purappadu 2026

Thiruvallikkeni Purattasi Krishna paksha Ekadasi 2026

Sri Parthasarathi Perumal purappadu with Mylai Sri Peyalwar

Nadaswara innisai  :  https://youtu.be/I6t7jep1wjM

.. .. and my friend,  music critic Essel identifies this as :

“Sadā madini talatu gadarā”
Rāga: Gambhīravāṇi
Tāḷa: Ādi
Composer: Śrī Tyāgarāja

The opening is given as:

sadā madini talatu gadarā
mudāspada nagajādhipatē

It is a composition praising Lord Śiva, and the charanam ends with “tyāgarāja vinuta.”

Gambhīravāṇi —  The name itself is suggestive:

  • Gambhīra = majestic, serious, profound
  • Vāṇi = voice / musical expression

It has a deep, dignified and somewhat majestic personality. It does not have the immediately recognisable sweetness of Kalyani, Mohanam or Madhyamavati. Its identity comes much more from its characteristic prayogas and treatment of the swaras.

The commonly given scale is:

Ārohaṇa:
S G₃ P M₁ D₃ N₃ S

Avarohaṇa:
S N₃ P M₁ G₃ R₂ G₃ R₂ S

Notice something quite unusual: the ascent does not simply go in the normal S R G M P D N S order. There is no Rishabha in the ascent, while the descent introduces R₂ and has the distinctive G–R–G–R–S movement. [Gaanapriya Foundation]

“Sadā madini talatu kadara” is particularly interesting because this is one of the very few compositions associated with Gambhīravāṇi. The kriti is in Ādi tāḷa and addresses Śiva.

sadā madini talatu kadarā
mudāspada nagajādhipatē

conveys: “Am I not always remembering You in my mind, O Lord, the abode of bliss, O consort of Pārvatī?”  and the charanam is packed with Śiva imagery — Digambara, destroyer of Antaka, bearer of Ganga, wearer of the crescent moon, the expert dancer — finally ending with “Tyagaraja vinuta.”

“Sadā madini talatu” — traditionally attributed to Tyagaraja, in Gambhīravāṇi.

Interesting !
