On the Ninth day evening – as Sri Parthasarathi stepped out from vahana mantap late in the day, so many vied to capture the image on screens of varied cameras and mobile phones ….. .. .. long ago, a print of Emperuman was so rare – costly and not easily available .. .. these days, one gets to have darshan the moment purappadu occurs – people are so fast in uploading [either direct from their mobiles or some – after a process – capture on Dslr – take the card out – put in on phone – (some process it on lightroom too) – then upload on to the web – on FB / WA / Instagram/ Blog and more .. ..
** David Dunn, a superhuman who survived the Eastrail 177 train wreck 19 years earlier, now operates as a disguised vigilante dubbed the "Overseer" alongside his son. Three weeks after the "Horde" incident, the Dunns track down Kevin Wendell Crumb, the "Horde", at an abandoned factory where he holds four cheerleaders hostage. David engages Kevin in a brief battle until armed forces led by Dr. Ellie Staple intervene and imprison them at the Raven Hill Memorial Mental Institute. Also being kept there is David's "destined" foe and global terrorist Elijah Price, a.k.a. Mr. Glass, who is kept under sedation and is considered completely harmless. David and Kevin are placed in separate rooms that contain unique security measures based on their weaknesses of water and light flashes respectively.
Many vie to take photos with their mobiles, irrespective of the capacity and effect of the camera on the mobile – even when more brilliant pictures are available easily on the web shared by some ! .. .. it is a question of ‘me taking on my smart phone’ – one item that people nowadays buy as frequently as they purchase sarees / tshirts perhaps is a smartphone. After a few months of usage, one feels – the phone is no longer smart especially when compared to the newer specs that boost of processing speed, data security and picture quality (mostly the mega pixels – though mostly people do not print them !) .. .. and the protection of mobile is of utmost significance – keeping them scratch resistance, there is gorilla glass !!
Glass is a non-crystalline, often transparent amorphous solid, that has widespread practical, technological, and decorative use. The term glass, in popular usage, is often used to refer only to this type of material, although silica-free glasses often have desirable properties for applications in modern communications technology. Wood is an ancient material humans have been using for millions of years, for the construction of housing, ships and as a source of fuel for burning. However, wood is not used in making windows, as we rely on glass and plastic, which are transparent and, when toughened, can give structural support. In recent years, materials scientists have been experimenting with making wood transparent. Making wood see-through, and retaining its high mechanical properties, would provide a good alternative to glass from a sustainable and renewable source.
Though we tend to fix another layer of glass sheet locally, most smartphones are covered with Gorilla Glass, a glass made by Corning that’s been specifically engineered to protect against drops and other damage. Corning’s decision to focus on harder, crack-resistant glass dates back the story of Gorilla Glass’ origin. Steve Jobs asked Corning’s CEO to make a glass cover that would protect the iPhone from scratches and cracks. Prior to the iPhone, touchscreen smartphones used soft plastic on top of their displays, which was suitable for a stylus, but terrible for finger touch interactions. Corning only had a six-month window to deliver the goods, and that’s how the first Gorilla Glass was born.
Corning, the maker of all things tough and shiny, came up with a new take on its signature hardened glass line, called Vibrant Gorilla Glass. Why vibrant? Well, it turns out you can print photo-quality images on one of the toughest transparent concoctions in the world now. Idea of having image on, say, the rear of your smartphone, lends a fusion of glass and metal. As per Corning, the prints can include "gradient colors and logos, photo-quality images and multi-color decorations," all in high-res and with decreased processing times. One cannot but question - If gorilla glass is used on a touchscreen, doesn't it have to be transparent and wouldn't printing an image on it negate the whole purpose of using glass? ~ may be yes at the back of the phone … but, … glasses are attractive !
In optics, a prism is a transparent optical element with flat, polished surfaces that refract light. At least two of the flat surfaces must have an angle between them. A dispersive prism can be used to break light up into its constituent spectral colors (the colors of the rainbow). In my childhood, used to wonder such prisms hanging on the palanquin ~ the kannadi pallakku.
இன்று 11th Feb 2021 ஒன்பதாம் நாள் - இரவு ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் கண்ணாடி பல்லக்கில் எழுந்து அருளினார். "மின் இலங்கு திருஉருவும் பெரியதோளும், கைத்தலமும், அழகான திருக்கண்களும்' உடைய எங்கள் பெருமாளுக்கு எதை சேர்வித்து மேலும் மிளிரச் செய்வது ! முத்துப் போன்றவனும் ஒளி பொருந்திய மரகதப்பச்சை போன்றவனும் ஆன எம் முகில் வண்ணனை பல வாகனங்களில் சேவித்த நமக்கு இன்று 'பெருமாள் கண்ணாடி பல்லக்கில் சேவை சாதித்து அருளினார்.
On the Ninth day evening of the brahmothsavam of Sri Parthasarathi Swami Brahmothsavam, at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam was – ‘Kannadi Pallakku’ – the palanquin embedded with beautiful mirror work. There was a big, captivating, eye-capturing palanquin made of glass – rather with glasses fitted all over and with chandelier like things suspended on its arms; remember it used to have many prisms. Slowly it faded into oblivion as it was not maintained properly and glass pieces started falling off as it was not maintained in the proper manner.
For a few years, when there was no ‘Kannadi Pallakku’, Sri Parthasarathi had purappadu on ‘punniyakodi vimana chapparam’. Then a newly made one [dedicated by NC Sridhar] – looking different than the earlier one was submitted. Now there is purappadu in the ‘kannadi pallakku’ – (literally the palanquin made of glass.)
கண்ணாடி கடினத்தன்மை கொண்ட, உடையக்கூடிய, ஒளியை ஊடுசெல்ல விடக்கூடிய, பளிங்குருவற்ற திண்மமுமான பொருளொன்றைக் குறிக்கிறது. முக்கியமாக பளபளக்க வல்லது. இன்று ஒன்பதாம் நாள் - இரவு ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் கண்ணாடி பல்லக்கில் எழுந்து அருளினார். கைரவிணி குளக்கரையினிலே, தெற்கு குளக்கரை தெருவில் ஒரு மண்டபம் உள்ளது. இது கண்ணாடி பல்லக்கு மண்டபம் என்றே வழங்கப்படுகிறது. பல வருடங்கள் இங்கே 'அழகான கண்ணாடி பல்லக்கு' வைக்கப்பட்டு இருந்தது. பெரிய பல்லக்கு - முழுதும் கண்ணாடி வேலைப்பாடுகளுடன், பெரிய குஞ்சலங்கள் போன்று தொங்கும் கண்ணாடிகள் உடன் அழகாக இருந்தது இது. இதில் இருந்த முப்பட்டகங்கள் பிரமிக்க வைக்கும்; ஒளிக்கற்றைகளை சிதறடித்து வண்ண ஜாலங்கள் செய்யும்.
உத்சவத்துக்கு சில மணி நேரங்கள் முன்பு, இந்த மண்டபத்தில் இருந்து படோபடமாக ஏளப்பண்ணப்பட்டு கோவில் வாகன மண்டபத்தை வந்து சேரும். காலப்போக்கில் கண்ணாடிகள் உதிர்ந்து, பல்லக்கு பொலிவு இழந்து இந்த புறப்பாடு நின்று போனது. பெருமாள் ஒன்பதாம் உத்சவம் இரவு, புண்ணியகோடி விமானத்தின், விமானம் இல்லாமல் சப்பரம் மட்டும் உள்ள அமைப்பில், சில வருடங்கள் ஏளினார். இந்த மண்டபம் அலுவலக அதிகாரிகள் கார் நிற்கும் இடமாக மாறிப்போனது வருத்தமே!
