Thirumayilai Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal Brahmothsavam 1 - 2018

2nd day of April 2018  is 19th day of Panguni ~ Swathi nakshathiram.  At Thiruvallikkeni Sri Thelliya Singar had purappadu.  This morning had the fortune of darshan of Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal on 1st day of Panguni Brahmothsavam.

Thirumangai mannan singing about Thiruvallikkeni  divyadesam calls it ‘maada maa Mayilai Thiruvallikkeni’ [singing Mylapore and Triplicane together as the place with palatial buildings !].  Mylapore is  associated with Kapaleeswarar temple that has a great history – and one that was relocated from its earlier position nearer the sea to its present place.   Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal Devasthanam better known as ‘Mylai Kesava Perumal Kovil’ is near Mylai Kapaleeswarar Temple and the Chithirai kulam belongs to this Temple.  This is Chandra pushkarini (sarva theertham) popularly known as Chithirai kulam.  The presiding deity here is Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal and thayar is Mayuravalli – the place itself was historically known as ‘Mayurapuri’. The temple is quite ancient and dates back to centuries.

Here are some photos taken during today’s morning purappadu ~ day 1 of Brahmothsavam for Sri Adi Kesavar.  Incidentally in the sarrumurai song of Muthal thiruvanthathi, Poigaippiran says :

Sri Poigai Alwar directs the heart to always worship the Lord wearing the thulasi garland, the great Krishna avtar whence He kicked a cart with His foot (killing chakatasura); killing Kesi (hence Kesavan) and who measured the whole earth with His one foot.

adiyen Srinivasa dahsan.
