Swami Ramanujar Uthsavam day 2 - 2022

Blessed are We, the present generation –  we celebrated 1000 years of Swami Ramanuja on  1st May 2017 -   thiruvathirai nakshathiram in the month of Chithirai. .. Thiruvavathara Uthsavam of Udayavar culminating in sarrumurai on ‘Chithiraiyil Thiruvathirai’ – the 10 day annual brahmothsavam of Swami Ramanujar started on 26.4.2022, close after conclusion of Sri Parthasarathi Chithirai brahmothsavam.  

‘Ananthah sarasi dhere  Ramye  Bhoothapurivare’ – on the bank of Ananthasaras the temple pushkarini, is the temple of Sri Adhi Kesavar.   Boothapuri, better known now as Sri Perumpudur is the most divine place for us –  the place where our Greatest Acharyar “Emperumanaar, Bashyakarar” the reincarnation of Aadi Sesha and Sri Lakshmanar was born,  in the year 1017  to Kesava Somayaji and Gandhimathi couples.   Ilayavalwar as he was known at birth, Ramanujar was born in the year of grace of Pingala corresponding to year 939 of Salivahana era  and lived for a period of 120 years.   He was named Illayazhwar [denoting Lakshmana] by his uncle Srisaila Purnar foreseeing his wisdom, infinity and eternity.  

 His birth is associated with the temple tank ‘Kairavini’ at Thiruvallikkeni for his father Kesava Somayaji conducted yagna seeking birth of a son – and the great Ramanujar was born. He paid his first visit to Thiruvarangam in his 25th year but could only pay homage to Acharyar Alavanthar.  He lived and taught undisturbed in Srirangam for some more decades before had to leave the place proceeding to Melukote Thirunarayanapuram.  

The best flowing rich tribute to Acarya is from our Periya Jeeyar Swami Manavala Mamunigal in his work ‘Yathiraja Vimsathi’.

Sri MaadhavAngri Jalaja dvaya nitya sevA prema-

vila aasaya paraankusa paadha bhaktham |

kaamAdhi dhosha haram aathma padhamAsrithAnAm

Raamanujam Yathi pathim praNamAmi MoordhnA || 

Swami Manavala Mamunigal says :  I salute the emperor of SanyAsis , Sri RamAnujA , who had great vAtsalyam for the lotus feet of NammAzhwAr and who cleanses  away the blemishes of those , who took refuge at his feet. In this beautiful sloka, Mamunigal connects the Acarya paramparai from Sri Ranganatha down to Kurathazhwan, the dear disciple of Emperumanar  This work is known as Vimsathi as these salutations are of 20 verses.  

Our Srivaishnavism hails Ubhaya Vedanta – there are philosophies restricted to having their scriptures in either Sanskrit or Tamil ~ Sri Vaishnavism has Sanskrit and dravida vedantha in equal parlance. .. .. and we have the noblest of preceptors  - Swami Ramanujar – the King of all hermits guiding us the path.   Our darsana Sthapakar, Sri Ramanujar rightly reverred as ‘Yathi Rajar’ ~ the king among yathis [hermits and sages, the greatest reformer he was, Ramanuja gave us many vedantic treatises - toured the entire Country, making the Srivaishnavatie tradition flourish in all his path.  Of those who remained closest to Sri Ramanuja – Sri  Mudaliandan, Sri Koorathazhwan, Sri Embar,  Sri Ananthazhwan, Arulalaperumal Emperumanar, Kidambi Achaan, Thirukurugai Piraan Pillan, Thiruvarangathu Amuthanar and more.  Worshipping Sri Ramanujar will cure us of all sins and can there by a better time for doing it  than now.  

Celebrate the birth of Swami Ramanujar.  Falling at the feet of Udayavar is the only way, we cleanse and lift ourselves towards higher things – the kainkaryam to Lord.

Glory to num Iramanusan - day 3 2022

Glory to num Iramanusan !  ~ after  the Chithirai brahmothsavam, it is now uthsavam of  Acaryar Sri Ramanujar  ~ today is  day 3 and here are some photos of purappadu in the morning at Thiruvallikkeni.  To us our Acaryan is everywhere !

 

Swami Ramanuja was a great philosopher, our Acaryar was the most able administrator too.  He undertook control of Thiruvarangam temple, made corrective measures and ensured that the systems would flow down for centuries.  Thirumala temple too benefited by him, so did temples at Melukote and more ..

 

நம் ஆசார்யர் இராமாநுஜர் சிறந்த வேதாந்தி, தொலைநோக்கு பார்வை கொண்டவர், பெரிய நிர்வாகியும் கூட. திருவரங்கம் கோயிலின் நிர்வாகத்தை ஏற்று, அதை முற்றிலும் சீர்படுத்தி திருக்கோவிலை செம்மைப்படுத்தி, நியமனங்களை,  நெறிமுறைகளை உண்டாக்கியவர்.  கோவில் நிர்வாகத்தில் பல துறைகளை உருவாக்கி அததற்கு  சரியான ஆட்களையும் நியமித்தார்.  இவர் வகுத்துக் கொடுத்த கோயில் நடைமுறைகள்தான் திருமலையிலும் கடைப்பிடிக்கப்படுகின்றன.  மேல்கோட் திருநாராயணபுரத்தில் தங்கி இருந்து திருக்கோவிலையும், அன்றைய அரசவையும், பரிபாலித்து, தொண்டனூரில் மிகப்பெரிய ஏரி ஒன்றை உருவாக்கி, பாசனத்தையும் சீர்படுத்திய மஹான் நம் எம்பெருமானார்.

நயவேன் ஒரு தெய்வம் நானிலத்தே சில மானிடத்தைப்*

புயலே எனக்கவி போற்றிசெய்யேன், பொன்னரங்கமென்னில்

மயலே பெருகும் இராமனுசன்  மன்னு மாமலர்த்தாள்*

அயரேன் அருவினை என்னையெவ்வாறின்றடர்ப்பதுவே? 

 

Thiruvarangathu Amuthanar in his glorious work contemplates that he shall seldom offer worship to any other God on earth, will not praise some mortal with high sounding words like  ‘you are akin to a cloud that gives rain’ – one shall never forget the lotus feet of our Acharyar  Sri Ramanujar who unbountiful love flows like a cloud on the mere mention of holy Thiruvarangam.  To those, karma can never approach nor do any harm.

Swami Ramanujar Simha vahanam 2022

The lion (Panthera leo) is one of the five big cats in the genus Panthera and a member of the family Felidae.   For all of their roaring, growling, and ferociousness, lions are family animals and truly social – however, from time immemorial they are known for their strength and power.

 

When Disney’s “The Lion King” opened on Broadway in 2019 and took everybody’s breath away.    Following on from his successful remake of animated classic The Jungle Book, director Jon Favreau has created  a similarly photorealistic version of The Lion King.    The son of the “King” Mufasa, Simba is a mischievous young lion until his father is killed in a terrible stampede, secretly caused by Mufasa’s scheming brother Scar. Believing his father’s death to be his fault, Simba flees for a carefree existence living with meerkat Timon and warthog Pumbaa, but finds himself called back to his destiny when Scar’s rule turns sour. There is at least one new character – an elephant shrew,  added to the story, and a couple of the hyenas  have had their names changed.  

 

Life in reality is much different – this month, a stray juvenile lion that had spent days killing and eating livestock in villages of Western Uganda district of Kagadi was shot dead by Ugandan soldiers. !!   More than a century ago, African lions terrorized a railroad-construction project in Tsavo, Kenya,  killing and eating 35 workers. But how and why the big cats became “man-eaters” is still a matter of scientific debate.  Now the debate is on thousands of lions  being bred on farms in South Africa and then killed by rich trophy hunters, a shocking report has revealed. It also found that other big cats are being butchered and used for 'medicines' after being sold to buyers in the Far East. 

Taming a lion or hunting it is considered a virtue all along.  Lion represents power and domineering it – humans considers valorous.  At Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, in the ongoing Uthsavam for Swami Ramanujar, on day 2 evening,  Udayavar had purappadu in pallakku in the morning and in the evening it was Silver Simham.  

By some accounts the present Kali yuga is described to be home of evils, with people deviating from the path of goodness.  Acaryar Ramanujar  lifted and protected the World from the destructive powers of Kali yug setting a path of his own.  Thiruvarangathu Amuthanar in his glorious work ordains  that for those who attain the holy feet of our Acarya, will be imbued with radiance of wisdom, proper understanding, tolerance, ability, fame, wealth – all being showered on their own accord for those who follow the path shown by our Emperumanar.   

பொருந்திய தேசும் பொறையும் திறலும் புகழும் *  நல்ல

திருந்திய ஞானமும் செல்வமும் சேரும் செறுகலியால் *

வருந்திய ஞாலத்தை வண்மையினால் வந்தெடுத்தளித்த

அருந்தவன் எங்கள் இராமானுசனை அடைபவர்க்கே.  

முந்தைய யுகங்களைப்போல் அல்லாமல், இந்த காளி யுகத்தில், தீமைகள் அதிகம்.  தர்ம நெறியை விலக்கி வாழ்வோர் அதிகம்.  இத்தைகைய கடின சூழலில் துக்கப்பட்ட பூமியை தமது  நிர்ஹேதுக க்ருபையாலே வந்து அவதரித்து ரக்ஷித்தவரும் சரணுகதியென்கிற அரிய தபஸ்ஸை அநுஷ்டித்தவரும் எமக்கு ஸ்வாமியுமான இராமாநுசனை  அடைபவர்க்கு -   ஸ்வரூபாது ரூபமான தேஜஸ்ஸூம், க்ஷமாகுணமும், ஜிதேந்த்ரியத்வமாகிற பலமும், கீர்த்தியும், பரம விலக்ஷணமான அறிவும், பக்தியாகிற ஸம்பத்தும் செல்வங்களும் தானே வந்து சேரும் என்கிறார் திருவரங்கத்து அமுதனார் தமது இராமானுச நூற்றந்தாதியில்.
